00:47:10.900the midterm elections. The Trump administration is now formally asking the Supreme Court to let
00:47:16.140them tighten rules for mail-in voting. This is about an executive order that was signed by the
00:47:23.280president earlier this year. It's an order that's been challenged in the courts by nearly half of
00:47:28.920the states. All of this is unfolding with just 99 days until election day. Can you walk through
00:47:36.140what this means, the timetable here, because the time crunch is real? The time crunch is real,
00:47:42.480as you say, just 99 days. And we know that President Trump is trying several measures to
00:47:48.520try to affect what happens in November in the midterms. This particular action today involves
00:47:54.260his March directive that would involve the U.S. Postal System and the Department of Homeland
00:47:59.460Security screening state rolls. The directive requires the states to submit lists of eligible
00:48:08.620voters and then for those two federal entities to try to screen whether there are some non-citizens
00:48:15.460who can be poised to vote. That's his whole theme here is to try to take non-citizens out of the1.00
00:48:23.360voter pool. As you know, there are very few non-citizens who have been found to have voted at
00:48:29.200all. And, you know, I'll mention the New Jersey situation in a few seconds, but really this has
00:48:35.020not been a problem that the country has had in the past,
00:48:39.280but the president is trying to head off something.
00:48:41.820And 23 Democratic-led states have said,
00:48:45.280look, election procedures are the domain of the states.
00:48:49.600This is not something that the White House
00:49:58.640So what will probably happen, Casey, is the justices will ask for some sort of response from the Democratic challengers.
00:50:06.280And then we'll see if they want to intervene at this point and effectively force the states to start to keep turning to turnover roles and potentially have these procedures in place for the November election.
