00:31:17.420 days early. And it was mandated. It was an assembly. Grandma goes on and says, that is not

00:31:23.080 true. I knew she was coming weeks in advance. And I am just a grandmother who lives hours away. My

00:31:28.080 oldest granddaughter who attends sent her mom a long video after school about how awesome Erica

00:31:34.320 was and how much she enjoyed it. Some people are not content unless they are stirring the pot.

00:34:36.740 were emailed by a parent who went through great lengths to make it clear that they are very happy

00:34:41.060 at the school. We've had a very long relationship at the school. And they also want to be very

00:34:44.500 careful to only supply us with facts without any additional narrative as to how this thing came

00:34:49.000 together. Her email contained the following bullets. I'm going to read it to you verbatim.

00:34:53.880 She wrote, parents were notified in the Monday newsletter that Erica Kirk was coming on Thursday.

00:35:00.460 The communication that parents received described this as, quote, designed for students.

00:35:05.840 The event was not being advertised or placed on social media by either NCS or TP Faith.

00:35:11.400 When parents specifically contacted administration and asked if they could attend, they were denied permission to attend.

00:35:18.540 If that is not true or accurate, guys, we can get those emails.

00:35:22.920 It continues.

00:35:24.020 No permission slips were sent home or assigned.

00:35:26.780 the assembly included both middle school and high school students. That fact checks true because 0.70

00:35:32.800 there's only about 250 high school students. So if they had 500 plus students, it's because they

00:35:36.980 combined the middle school with the high school. She continues, students were not formally offered

00:35:43.520 an option to opt out. Do you hear that, Andrew? You said I was lying about that. This is, like I

00:35:48.580 said, a ton of parents have emailed us since they were not formally any offered any option to opt

00:35:52.660 out. She continues, parents could independently choose to excuse their children, which is what

00:35:57.700 some parents did. I would like to interject here and to add that we learned that they were then

00:36:04.820 going to be given an absence and some parents could not afford for their kids to be given an

00:36:09.320 absence for having pulled them out because their kids play sports. It's an absence. It's a penalty

00:36:15.700 for not attending the assembly. Of course, where there is a will, there is a way, but this was a

00:36:21.040 mandatory assembly. And this person continues, this took place during regular school hours as

00:36:28.300 a school assembly. Students did not individually sign up or choose to attend. Parents were not

00:36:34.360 given information beforehand about the security protocols for the event. I also wish to clarify

00:36:40.620 something that could easily be used to dispute the statement that parents are not allowed to

00:36:44.380 attend because there were pictures that were posted after the event that showed that some

00:36:49.240 parents were present. From my understanding, those parents were there because their children

00:36:53.460 were participating or speaking during the event. I can't personally verify that. This was the reason

00:36:59.160 that every parent that was pictured was allowed in, but that is my understanding. What I can say

00:37:03.960 is that parents who asked the administration if they could attend were told no. The general parent

00:37:09.340 body was never told there was a way to attend or that certain parents would be permitted inside.

00:37:13.980 We only discovered afterward through pictures that were being posted that some parents were

00:37:18.980 present. The gym doors were locked during the assembly. Student questions were screens beforehand.

00:37:26.320 My understanding is that TPUSA contacted Nampa Christian about coming to the school.

00:37:31.600 This was not an event that was initiated or organized by the students. TPUSA publicly

00:37:36.560 described the event as, quote, 500 plus high school students that were attending Club America.

00:37:41.100 That was not an accurate description.

00:37:43.360 The assembly included middle school students,

00:37:45.140 so there were not 500-plus high school students in attendance.

00:37:48.380 More importantly, these were not 500-plus students

00:37:51.760 who independently chose or signed up to attend a Club America event.

00:37:59.640 Andrew, she's referring to Andrew Colbert, stated that only three students opted out.

00:38:12.700 for a fact that more than three students did not attend. She goes on, I am not suggesting that

00:38:20.360 students were physically trapped inside with no ability to leave under any circumstances. I have

00:38:25.640 no reason to believe that a student who needed to use the restroom or had another legitimate reason

00:38:30.100 to leave would not have been allowed out. I am sure there was some type of protocol in place.

00:38:34.720 I'm going to interject here and to offer back that we received two separate emails from parents

00:38:39.700 saying that their children were refused when they asked to use the bathroom. I have those emails.

00:38:44.420 So I'm not saying I let two parents who emailed and that's why they were upset because their

00:38:48.340 children were refused to use the bathroom because of security protocols. This person, however,

00:38:53.100 goes on and says, but the doors were indeed locked. And as a parent, that raises questions

00:38:58.180 for me. If bringing a particular speaker or organization onto a school campus requires

00:39:03.360 students to be behind locked doors during the presentation, at what point should the

00:39:08.300 administration ask whether that is the appropriate environment for middle and high school students

00:39:12.900 during a required school assembly?

00:39:14.700 This also makes me question Turning Point USA and their care for the safety of children.

00:39:18.900 Perhaps locking the doors was entirely intended as a security measure to protect the students,

00:39:23.580 but if that level of security was considered necessary, I believe parents should have been

00:39:27.840 informed beforehand and given a meaningful choice regarding their child's participation.

00:39:33.360 Another piece of context that I think matters is that Nampa Christian has historically welcomed

00:39:38.220 parents to assemblies. In my experience, over the past 10 plus years, we have never previously been

00:39:44.960 told that we could not attend one. The school involved a politically controversial public

00:39:49.000 figure, an advocacy organization, included middle school students, occurred during the regular

00:39:54.000 school day, required no parental permission, gave parents only a three days notice, did not offer

00:39:59.160 students a clearly communicated opt-out option denied parents who requested permission to attend

00:40:04.160 and involved security procedures that were not explained to parents beforehand. In my opinion,

00:40:08.980 this should have been an optional after-school or evening event. Families who wanted their children

00:40:13.460 to hear Erica could have signed up and attended. Families who did not want their children

00:40:16.920 participating could simply have chosen not to. I felt it was important to read that in its entirety

00:40:22.820 Because I, again, I am just amazed at the lengths through which Turning Point USA will go to gaslight people about something that never needed to go this far.

00:40:35.160 You could have simply said in a tweet, showed a picture and said, we are so grateful that Erica was given the opportunity to speak in front of students today in Namba, Idaho.
