00:00:00.080 Hello, Classic Crew, and welcome to today's video where we're going to be talking about
00:00:04.920 eight things you should do in 2021.
00:00:10.720 So I was thinking about videos that I wanted to make as we are closing out 2020.
00:00:15.760 This has been a year, as we all know.
00:00:19.120 And of course, a lot of terrible things happened this year.
00:00:22.280 I don't need to go into them.
00:00:23.440 You guys lived it.
00:00:24.460 You were here with me, so you know.
00:00:26.320 But I also know that there were a lot of things that I was thinking about that I could improve on for next year for myself.
00:00:33.180 Because every year, right, as the year wraps up, we all start to think, okay, how can I change?
00:00:37.100 How can I be better?
00:00:37.840 It's a fresh start.
00:00:38.920 It's a clean slate.
00:00:39.900 How do I take advantage of that?
00:00:42.000 And how do I kind of use that feeling to make this whole transition between years work to my advantage?
00:00:50.400 So I was thinking about ways that I could improve.
00:00:53.000 Because I know that there are a ton of ways that I could be a better person, that I could do better,
00:00:58.860 and that I could just fulfill my potential, as well as just grow and be the best version of myself.
00:01:04.980 That's something that I always want to work on.
00:01:07.140 It's something my husband and I constantly talk about.
00:01:09.560 And it's something that we really try and inspire in one another.
00:01:12.720 And so I wanted to talk about with you guys eight things I want to incorporate into my life in 2021.
00:01:18.680 Eight things that I think I should be doing in 2021.
00:01:22.280 And maybe you guys can take some inspiration from that.
00:01:25.320 So I'm excited to share these eight things that you should do in 2021.
00:01:29.020 So let's get into it.
00:01:30.460 The first thing that you should incorporate into your life in 2021,
00:01:34.520 and I should incorporate into my life in 2021, is to give charity.
00:01:38.760 Now, my husband and I do give charity.
00:01:41.100 But going into 2021, we've actually discussed it.
00:01:44.060 And we're going to start tithing.
00:01:45.480 So tithing means that you give 10% of your income to charity.
00:01:49.820 And it's something that is in the Torah.
00:01:51.560 So it's something that we have not yet done.
00:01:53.700 We have not yet been able to do.
00:01:55.220 But this year, we really feel like we can and we should.
00:01:58.920 And it's really important to us that we do start giving back to the people out there who are in dire straits
00:02:04.780 or who are in worse positions than we are.
00:02:07.180 Thank God.
00:02:07.920 Thank God.
00:02:08.860 We are so blessed.
00:02:10.100 We are so lucky.
00:02:10.960 We are so grateful that we can afford to tithe and give back to different organizations and things that matter to us.
00:02:20.060 So I'm really excited about this.
00:02:22.480 And I think it's something that all of us should be doing, right?
00:02:25.500 All of us should be giving charity to the organizations that we care about.
00:02:29.120 They all need it.
00:02:29.880 Or to certain people in our lives.
00:02:31.640 Or to just certain groups.
00:02:33.260 It's something that makes you better.
00:02:35.800 Charity isn't always about the other person and what they need.
00:02:38.580 Of course, that's incredibly important.
00:02:40.940 But it makes you a better person too because it reminds you that your money really isn't yours.
00:02:45.740 It was given to you by God.
00:02:47.680 And because of that, it really becomes important for us to share it and view our money as something that doesn't define us.
00:02:54.220 So I think this is something that's really important and is a really good way to start off the year.
00:02:58.760 Just thinking, okay, how am I going to give back?
00:03:02.040 How am I going to give charity?
00:03:03.180 And for those of you who can't yet afford to actually give monetary charity, there's also other ways you can give back to important causes or to just certain people.
00:03:13.300 Volunteering, helping, these kinds of things are super important.
00:03:17.280 And I think that more of us should be doing it.
00:03:20.280 So in 2021, that's definitely something that I have got on my list of things I want to do to be a better person.
00:03:25.960 And you should too.
00:03:26.780 The second thing I wanted to talk about is being kinder to the people in your life that you know that you can kind of take out your stresses and vent to a little bit.
00:03:36.340 Because I think one of the things that is very common is that when you have someone in your life that you love and who you know loves you,
00:03:44.240 you'll actually be less kind to that person or to those people than you would to just a stranger.
00:03:50.800 Because here's the thing.
00:03:52.320 The person who loves you is going to forgive you no matter what.
00:03:55.620 But a stranger, if you're rude to them, they're not going to give you the benefit of the doubt and they don't have to see you the next day.
00:04:00.700 Whereas somebody that you love, you can be a little bit harsher to and not as careful about how you treat them.
00:04:09.420 And I think that that can be something that happens when you get really comfortable with someone.
00:04:13.740 And I know that for me, I'd really like to be the kindest version of myself to everyone I know.
00:04:18.560 Not just to the people who I've just made acquaintances with, but to everyone in my life and to the people who I really love.
00:04:23.520 I want to be the best version of myself, even with the people who I don't have to be the best version of myself around.
00:04:30.160 And I think this is a really good thing to incorporate in 2021 for all of us,
00:04:34.780 which is that you shouldn't allow yourself to be the worst version of yourself with the people who will forgive you just because that you can.
00:04:42.940 Just because you can be a worse version of yourself, just because you can be a little less kind to someone,
00:04:48.760 doesn't mean that you should be less kind to someone.
00:04:51.820 And honestly, that encourages us to find those things in your life that are triggers for you to be less kind and less good to the people around you.
00:05:02.480 And then to deal with that.
00:05:04.000 It really encourages you as a person and encourages me as a person, of course,
00:05:07.720 to find out what are the things in my life that are making me less nice and less kind to people
00:05:14.400 that make me want to lash out and figure out why I'm behaving that way so that it doesn't happen again.
00:05:20.460 And that really is something that is worth exploring, is figuring out how to be a better person
00:05:26.060 by figuring out what those things are that really make you upset, whether that be stress or specific triggers,
00:05:31.820 whatever it is, figuring out how to actually learn how to deal with those emotions in a healthy way.
00:05:37.500 So that is definitely something I think we should all work on in 2021.
00:05:40.640 The third thing that you should do in 2021 is turn to God in moments of doubt.
00:05:46.180 I think that even for those of us who are religious,
00:05:48.880 it's not always first impulse to think about God when you're in an upsetting situation.
00:05:54.100 Sometimes, even in the most stressful of times, we don't think to turn to God for help
00:05:58.640 or to look for peace in God.
00:06:01.860 And then when you do think of it, all of a sudden it's like,
00:06:04.100 oh, that was so obvious.
00:06:05.080 Why didn't I pray?
00:06:06.220 Why didn't I sit down and really try and connect with my creator?
00:06:10.920 And for those of you who are like me, who don't have that immediate response of,
00:06:15.380 oh, I'm in a stressful situation.
00:06:16.400 I should consider my relationship to God and pray.
00:06:19.740 I think it would be good to make that second nature and just like a habit,
00:06:24.260 where if I get upset about something, if I get stressed, if I'm feeling overwhelmed,
00:06:28.260 or if something bad is happening, that I immediately think,
00:06:31.760 okay, how can I turn this into a religious moment for me?
00:06:36.320 How can I turn to God in this moment?
00:06:38.460 And even if it's just to pray, there's something about knowing God is there
00:06:42.600 that can really bring you calm and peace.
00:06:45.720 And I know that for me, in those moments that I have turned to God,
00:06:49.460 when things were not going my way, I felt so much better in that moment.
00:06:53.720 And it was kind of an obvious thing that I should be doing more often.
00:06:58.320 So I definitely want to be turning to God more often and more frequently
00:07:03.120 and kind of more in those situations where it should be obvious
00:07:06.480 and I haven't necessarily done it in 2020.
00:07:09.400 And I think that this is something that we can all incorporate more into our lives.
00:07:13.020 So I definitely recommend doing that in 2021.
00:07:16.220 Number four is to challenge yourself to think through and compare
00:07:19.320 arguments when they're presented to you.
00:07:21.480 So what I'm really talking about with this kind of thing is
00:07:24.280 if you're watching a historical show or reading a historical book
00:07:27.940 and it has a leftist skew and it's presenting somebody from history in a certain way,
00:07:34.780 go and figure out and research if that's accurate,
00:07:39.260 if that is something that actually is presented to you without any bias
00:07:43.700 or if it is being presented to you in a certain way to get you to feel a certain thing.
00:07:47.640 So this is something I come across all the time.
00:07:50.060 It's not just in shows, it's in podcasts, it's in TV shows, it's in movies
00:07:54.860 where I am learning about a certain topic and all of a sudden I start to feel like,
00:07:59.400 hey, I don't know that this is totally accurate.
00:08:02.300 I need to take a second and research this because I don't know
00:08:06.560 if what they're telling me is actually totally true.
00:08:10.360 Now this is 100% true on the other side of the aisle too.
00:08:13.740 So if you're listening to something that has a conservative skew
00:08:16.580 and you're not totally sure if something is accurate,
00:08:19.300 even if it kind of confirms your own biases,
00:08:21.940 take a second and look for an unbiased report.
00:08:24.380 You always want to research things that are presented to you as fact
00:08:28.760 because no one is unbiased.
00:08:30.900 So you have to be the best protector of your information
00:08:34.920 and the information that you imbibe.
00:08:36.820 And I know that this is something that sometimes I can be lazy about
00:08:40.360 and I know I want to be really good about this
00:08:43.100 because if I'm going to take certain podcasts or shows as fact,
00:08:47.800 I can't just take them as fact if I haven't done the research myself.
00:08:51.660 And I'm sure that you guys have been in similar situations.
00:08:55.140 So this is definitely something that you should be doing in 2021
00:08:58.940 is really being your own best advocate
00:09:02.020 when it comes to getting information from all of these different media sources.
00:09:06.260 Number five is to be more intentional with your time.
00:09:11.220 This is something I definitely struggle with.
00:09:13.420 I'm sure that many of you struggle with it too.
00:09:16.080 But it's so easy with everything that we have,
00:09:19.340 like our phones, our computers, all of that stuff,
00:09:21.680 to be easily distracted and to waste time without choosing to waste time.
00:09:27.380 And I have really this year been working on
00:09:31.700 trying to be more intentional with my use of time.
00:09:35.600 If I want to waste time on my phone, okay,
00:09:38.560 but kind of delineate that time beforehand and say,
00:09:41.460 okay, I'm going to take 15 minutes and just play around on my phone.
00:09:44.400 But if I want to read,
00:09:46.220 playing on my phone would obviously kind of bleed into that time
00:09:50.160 that I would really be wanting to use for just reading a book.
00:09:53.540 So using your time wisely and trying to remember why being intentional is so important.
00:10:00.740 It's a way for you to look back at the end of the day and say,
00:10:03.760 I really did everything I wanted to do.
00:10:06.140 I really made sure that all of the times that I wanted to spend doing these certain things
00:10:11.680 didn't get wasted doing something else I don't care about.
00:10:15.280 And this is not to say that I am always successful at this.
00:10:17.920 There are many days that I am not.
00:10:19.700 But it's something that I really want to work on in 2021.
00:10:22.920 And I think that you guys probably want to work on this too,
00:10:25.960 because it is something that it just makes you feel so good
00:10:30.360 when at the end of the day,
00:10:31.480 you know that you really spent your time wisely
00:10:34.060 and you spent it in a way that you wanted to spend it
00:10:36.160 and you didn't get distracted.
00:10:37.780 So being more intentional with your time
00:10:39.360 and allowing yourself time to read books.
00:10:41.500 I know that's a specific thing,
00:10:43.060 but I do want to read more books in 2021
00:10:44.860 and not get distracted with technology.
00:10:47.280 So I definitely want to add that to my list,
00:10:50.260 but I'm kind of wrapping it in with being intentional with my time.
00:10:54.320 Number six is to take care of your clothes
00:10:56.640 so that you can actually wear them.
00:10:58.760 So this is kind of a specific thing.
00:11:00.280 I don't know that it necessarily makes you a better person,
00:11:02.360 but it's something that I would like to do more of in 2021.
00:11:05.220 And I think it's probably something
00:11:06.500 that you guys can incorporate into your lives too.
00:11:09.120 And that's if you have certain pieces in your wardrobe
00:11:11.740 that need to be ironed or something,
00:11:13.940 iron them as soon as they get out of the laundry.
00:11:15.900 Or at least kind of leave them out of your closet
00:11:19.240 and don't hang them up right away
00:11:20.380 so that you can wear them because you've ironed them already.
00:11:23.460 Because if they're hanging in your closet
00:11:24.820 and they're not ironed, you're not going to grab those.
00:11:27.760 You have to take care of your clothing.
00:11:30.220 Now that's not the only thing that I have to do, right?
00:11:32.600 That's not the only thing that we should do is ironing.
00:11:35.500 But laundering your clothes in the right way,
00:11:37.720 taking care of your clothes in the right way
00:11:40.500 so that you can actually get good wear out of them
00:11:43.500 and good use out of them.
00:11:44.860 It ends up being more respectful to the pieces that you own
00:11:47.760 and to the money that you've spent
00:11:49.000 to actually take care of your clothing.
00:11:51.860 And that doesn't mean that if it's something
00:11:52.960 that you really won't ever wear,
00:11:54.200 you have to take care of it.
00:11:55.360 If it's something that's too much work for you,
00:11:57.140 just donate it.
00:11:58.120 Just get rid of it.
00:11:58.980 You don't need it.
00:11:59.580 But just if you're going to wear something
00:12:01.240 and you want to wear something,
00:12:03.080 you may need to invest a little bit of extra time,
00:12:05.320 I know that I do,
00:12:06.180 in actually taking care of those pieces.
00:12:09.200 Now, an example for me is that I have a shirt with cuffs
00:12:12.280 that gets wrinkled pretty easily
00:12:13.700 and the cuff will sort of roll down.
00:12:15.380 If I leave that in my closet the way that it is,
00:12:17.700 I'll either put it on when it's wrinkled
00:12:19.760 and look not great,
00:12:21.880 or I will not wear it
00:12:23.800 because it's not taken care of.
00:12:25.540 It's not ironed.
00:12:26.440 So my inspiration is that.
00:12:28.980 Is that piece specifically that stares at me
00:12:31.020 while I film these videos
00:12:32.300 because I can look right at it
00:12:34.480 and think to myself,
00:12:35.620 I don't want to wear that because it is wrinkled.
00:12:38.080 So figuring out how to actually wear the clothes
00:12:42.060 that you own
00:12:42.740 and really take good care of them
00:12:44.600 is something that we should all aim for in 2021.
00:12:48.020 Number seven is to find a good routine
00:12:50.480 and stick with it.
00:12:52.520 This past year has been the year of routines
00:12:55.680 that I didn't necessarily stick with.
00:12:58.720 I mean, to be fair,
00:13:00.260 life is sort of like that.
00:13:01.520 You find something you like
00:13:02.520 and then all of a sudden
00:13:03.260 it's not so interesting to you anymore,
00:13:04.840 et cetera, et cetera.
00:13:05.660 But 2020 was a year of us all being at home.
00:13:08.780 So I was constantly trying new routines
00:13:10.660 to see what would kind of inspire me each day.
00:13:13.360 And there was a stretch of time early on in quarantine
00:13:16.660 where I was doing the same routine every morning
00:13:19.620 and it was great.
00:13:20.820 And then I veered off track.
00:13:23.060 I let myself get distracted.
00:13:24.720 I let myself think,
00:13:25.680 okay, I want to do something else in the morning.
00:13:27.240 And all of a sudden my routine disappeared
00:13:29.660 and so did my kind of mental health.
00:13:32.200 My mental health wasn't terrible,
00:13:33.480 but it just wasn't as good as it was
00:13:35.600 when I had this routine going.
00:13:37.680 And as you guys may have seen in my scoop video
00:13:39.820 that just went up,
00:13:40.880 I talked about how I've been incorporating a routine
00:13:43.640 into my daily life now that I am loving.
00:13:46.820 I'm so happy.
00:13:47.620 I wake up at 7.30,
00:13:48.540 I immediately go to the gym
00:13:49.840 and I clean up the house.
00:13:51.420 And those two things have really given me
00:13:53.700 such a boost in the mornings.
00:13:56.180 And at this point,
00:13:57.760 I'm wanting to say to myself,
00:13:59.420 because it's the end of 2020
00:14:00.640 and we're going into 2021,
00:14:02.320 I want to say to myself,
00:14:03.420 don't mess this up.
00:14:05.580 You've got this morning routine
00:14:07.020 that you really like,
00:14:08.600 just stick with it.
00:14:09.940 And so that is something
00:14:10.840 that I would encourage for you
00:14:12.460 as I'm encouraging in myself
00:14:13.840 is to find a good routine
00:14:15.760 and really stick with it.
00:14:17.340 The last thing I think you should do in 2021
00:14:19.840 is be grateful.
00:14:22.060 And that is something that I am feeling today
00:14:25.140 is that I am so grateful
00:14:27.660 that my husband and I had a good year
00:14:30.700 in a year that was really hard for so many people.
00:14:34.900 2020 was not easy.
00:14:37.260 It was not easy for anybody,
00:14:38.560 but my husband and I really were blessed
00:14:41.740 in that it was okay for us.
00:14:44.160 We were okay.
00:14:45.200 And we came out the other side being fine.
00:14:48.620 And I am so grateful to God
00:14:51.580 that this is something that I can say
00:14:54.280 about a year that was so hard.
00:14:56.840 And so going into 2021,
00:14:58.320 I just want to keep feeling grateful
00:15:00.860 and keep reminding myself
00:15:03.200 how lucky I am and how blessed I am.
00:15:07.100 And being grateful really,
00:15:09.360 so many of the problems
00:15:11.000 that we have as people internally
00:15:13.360 go away when you remind yourself
00:15:15.620 how grateful you are.
00:15:17.900 I know that's true for myself,
00:15:19.080 that if I start to feel resentful
00:15:22.380 or any of these other emotions,
00:15:23.940 that's when I really start to be less happy.
00:15:28.980 And there are just so many other
00:15:30.500 kind of mental games you'll play with yourself
00:15:33.640 when you're not feeling grateful.
00:15:36.020 But as soon as you remember how blessed you are,
00:15:40.140 all of a sudden that stuff really can disappear.
00:15:43.660 And so I would really encourage you guys in 2021
00:15:46.620 to be grateful for everything good
00:15:49.380 that has happened for you.
00:15:51.120 And I will do it too
00:15:52.960 because I think that it's super important.
00:15:55.960 So that is it for my eight things
00:15:58.680 you should do in 2021.
