00:00:00.240 Hello, classic crew, and welcome to today's episode of The Scoop.
00:00:07.140 If you are new to my channel, The Scoop is our opportunity to catch up, have a cup of
00:00:11.760 coffee together, just kind of hang out and chat, talk about what's been going on over
00:00:15.660 the course of the week.
00:00:16.560 And I love chatting with you guys in the comments, so make sure to leave comments below about
00:00:20.580 what you've been up to.
00:00:22.000 So grab something to drink, whether that be coffee or water or whatever it is that you
00:00:26.040 want, and let's get into it.
00:00:27.480 It is so nice to be sitting in front of the camera like this.
00:00:31.360 It has been a long time.
00:00:34.140 I did vlogica for eight days during Hanukkah.
00:00:37.680 So vlogica, I kind of came up with the idea because of vlogmas.
00:00:41.200 I follow a few different YouTubers who literally videoed every single day in December, and I
00:00:46.400 can't imagine doing that for a few reasons.
00:00:48.660 One, it seems really difficult.
00:00:50.740 I find it very impressive that people can do that.
00:00:53.100 But two, it also seems to me that if you're filming all the time, it can kind of invade
00:00:59.120 your personal life in a way, where it feels like you're not living for the day, you're
00:01:03.940 living for the camera.
00:01:05.260 And I did experience that a little bit, but what I was thinking for vlogica was that I
00:01:10.120 could do it for eight days.
00:01:11.080 I could video myself for eight days, share kind of what a day in my life is like, and share
00:01:15.820 Hanukkah and the Jewish traditions with you guys.
00:01:18.000 So it was really fun, but it was really different than I expected.
00:01:22.880 In my mind, I thought it was going to be pretty easy.
00:01:25.340 I thought I could just film every day, show you guys what I was up to, edit it pretty quickly,
00:01:29.980 and put it up.
00:01:30.720 But it's eight days in a row.
00:01:32.600 So you're filming every single day, and you have to think about, okay, what do I want
00:01:36.820 to film today?
00:01:37.400 I'm not going to film everything, obviously, because a lot of the stuff I do is boring.
00:01:40.740 It's mostly sitting in front of my computer.
00:01:42.100 And how do I kind of record things as well as edit them and post them?
00:01:48.980 It ended up being a way bigger project than I anticipated.
00:01:52.400 And even though I had a really fun time sharing all of that with you, and I'm really excited
00:01:56.840 to look back in a few years because I'll have this as kind of a diary of what we did in Hanukkah
00:02:01.560 of 2020, it was hard.
00:02:03.960 It was really hard to just kind of know what to record and make the time for everything.
00:02:08.700 I was under the impression that I would actually have more time during Vlogika because it's
00:02:12.800 not as creative as some of my other content.
00:02:15.920 I'm not having to come up with original ideas.
00:02:18.220 I'm just showing you guys what I'm up to.
00:02:20.500 So I thought, hey, maybe that'll be a little bit easier.
00:02:22.680 It was not.
00:02:23.660 It was its own, you know, animal.
00:02:25.740 But I had a really great time, and I'm so excited I got to share it with you guys.
00:02:29.540 And I think a lot of you guys enjoyed it too.
00:02:31.460 So that was pretty cool.
00:02:32.740 I hope you guys enjoyed it.
00:02:34.160 And I know some of you guys have asked me to keep doing vlogs.
00:02:36.300 I think I'll kind of do vlogs here and there.
00:02:38.700 I did some vlogs before the Vlogika, so it's not like that was my very first time.
00:02:43.640 But it's not generally the content I put on my channel.
00:02:46.360 But leave me in the comments below, what was your favorite day of Vlogika if you watched?
00:02:51.200 I would love to hear maybe what your favorite treat was that I made.
00:02:54.640 Because one of the things that I did during Vlogika, Hanukkah, is I made a different treat
00:03:00.320 every single day for Jacob to bring into work.
00:03:03.580 And oh my gosh, that brings me to my next point.
00:03:07.040 Since Vlogika, I have had a revivified love of baking and cooking.
00:03:13.340 So when you're working and stuff like that, I think that cooking can start to feel very utilitarian.
00:03:19.440 It feels like, okay, we need to get food on the table.
00:03:21.380 I need to have food ready by this time.
00:03:23.020 And we just kind of need to eat.
00:03:24.480 And so you kind of stick with a few recipes that you just know and can do really quickly.
00:03:28.720 And I do enjoy that because it's so practical.
00:03:32.120 But in doing Vlogika and in doing these treats that I made for Jacob's office,
00:03:37.680 I was trying recipes I had never tried before.
00:03:40.700 And I remembered how much I enjoy it.
00:03:43.720 And it really inspired me to keep doing that.
00:03:46.920 Now, can I do that every single night of the week?
00:03:48.440 Probably not.
00:03:49.700 But I can do it more often than I was.
00:03:52.940 And also, great tip and trick is that if you want to bake something,
00:03:58.800 but you don't want to eat the whole thing because maybe you're trying to be healthier or whatever,
00:04:02.120 you can bake something, you and your husband can share it a little bit,
00:04:05.960 and then he can take the rest into his office.
00:04:08.140 That totally changed my mind about baking.
00:04:11.480 Because for a really long time, I wasn't baking at all.
00:04:14.060 Because I was so kind of concerned about,
00:04:16.320 if there's treats in the house, it's very hard for me not to eat them.
00:04:19.780 And so I just didn't want to have those hanging around.
00:04:22.100 So then I thought to myself,
00:04:23.020 okay, if I make a whole thing of baked goods,
00:04:27.240 Jacob can take a lot of those to his office and we can just share a few.
00:04:30.400 So that has changed my mind and opened my mind to baking again,
00:04:34.520 which I'm so excited about.
00:04:36.740 And also just trying new recipes.
00:04:38.780 Making that Israeli food, making the hummus, making the pita bread,
00:04:42.000 it just made me really excited about cooking and baking.
00:04:44.300 So I am really excited about this,
00:04:47.100 because I think I can make this into more of a hobby than I had been doing previously.
00:04:51.720 And since I'm talking about that,
00:04:53.280 leave in the comments below your favorite recipes.
00:04:56.820 I love seeing what you guys are making.
00:04:59.420 That kind of stuff is really inspiring.
00:05:01.380 And I like seeing kind of what you guys like to cook in your kitchens.
00:05:05.720 So leave those in the comments and I'll click through and try some.
00:05:08.680 Another thing I wanted to talk about is something that I've been doing lately
00:05:12.280 that I feel like is really important for mental health.
00:05:16.260 And I think I'd really like to carry it through to 2021.
00:05:20.500 So for a long time, my kind of cleaning method was to leave everything sort of towards the weekend.
00:05:26.400 And I would tidy up here and there, but it was really more haphazard.
00:05:30.680 And by the time we got to the weekend, I would have to spend a long time cleaning up the house.
00:05:34.760 And just more recently, I started taking about an hour every morning and really cleaning the house.
00:05:42.720 Really taking the time to tidy up, make sure everything is in its place,
00:05:46.560 and then the house is clean for the rest of the day.
00:05:48.500 And I feel so much more productive, so much better,
00:05:52.060 and not distracted by the thought that I have to go clean stuff,
00:05:54.960 because stuff is already clean.
00:05:56.740 Now this goes hand in hand with something else I'm going to talk about.
00:05:59.540 But I've been waking up earlier, and by waking up earlier,
00:06:03.160 I can get stuff done before my actual workday starts.
00:06:06.420 I used to wake up at 8.30, and if I did anything from the time I woke up,
00:06:10.480 I wasn't starting work until 10.
00:06:13.100 And that's just not really practical.
00:06:14.940 So waking up a little bit earlier and going to the gym,
00:06:18.420 which is the other thing I want to talk about,
00:06:19.780 and tidying up before I start my workday has been such a huge game changer.
00:06:24.680 So just taking an hour each morning, maybe less, maybe half an hour,
00:06:28.920 to tidy up around the house before starting work, so, so good.
00:06:33.800 And then when I get to the weekend, instead of having to clean the house and tidy,
00:06:37.360 I can vacuum, which is so, so much better.
00:06:40.240 So yeah, that's kind of been how I've been dealing with cleaning lately.
00:06:43.900 If you guys have any good cleaning tips,
00:06:45.440 I know that there are so many different techniques and things out there
00:06:48.120 to kind of help you organize your cleaning schedule.
00:06:50.260 I'd love to hear them.
00:06:51.180 So kind of going hand in hand with that,
00:06:52.620 I did want to talk about how I'm exercising.
00:06:54.760 I am in such a good place with my exercising routine.
00:06:59.060 And I know, just like you guys probably,
00:07:01.160 my exercising routine kind of fluctuates how I'm feeling about it,
00:07:04.460 if I'm feeling positively or negatively about going to the gym.
00:07:07.660 Lately, it has been so good.
00:07:09.700 And it is because I've been doing something I enjoy.
00:07:12.640 So I have been going on the elliptical five days a week,
00:07:15.340 which makes me feel strong and good.
00:07:17.520 And it gives me a routine in the morning.
00:07:19.000 It's the first thing I do.
00:07:20.100 And then I have been doing weightlifting three times a week.
00:07:24.100 And I think what has really helped is treating the gym like I have to do it every day.
00:07:30.080 Because if I do it three times a week,
00:07:31.760 it's really easy for me to end up skipping more days than just one every other day.
00:07:36.860 And so if I was working out, let's say, Monday, Wednesday, Friday at the gym,
00:07:40.780 if I skipped Tuesday, then I could skip Wednesday.
00:07:44.040 But if it's a routine and it's the first thing I do every morning,
00:07:46.940 then I don't have that same issue.
00:07:49.240 Then it's just, okay, this is what I do every morning.
00:07:51.880 I just go to the gym and I work out.
00:07:53.220 And so five days a week, I do elliptical.
00:07:54.880 Three days a week, I do weightlifting.
00:07:56.220 And I feel so good about it.
00:07:58.140 Are you guys into weightlifting?
00:07:59.440 I know some women are not huge fans.
00:08:01.400 But more and more women I'm talking to have really shared with me that they enjoy weightlifting.
00:08:06.020 Now, I also kind of changed my weightlifting routine because now I'm doing just kind of more simple exercises.
00:08:12.440 And I think I actually prefer that.
00:08:14.320 I prefer to just kind of work a few different things as opposed to changing something up every day.
00:08:19.580 I like to just kind of focus on certain things.
00:08:22.560 And that has been really good for me.
00:08:25.060 The next thing I want to talk about is the most exciting thing that I have to talk about,
00:08:31.560 which is that I went to Disney World.
00:08:35.500 I know, I've never been to Disney World.
00:08:37.400 I grew up in LA, so I did go to Disneyland, but I'd never been to Disney World.
00:08:42.320 And when quarantine hit, I really kind of used Disney World as an escape from what was going on.
00:08:49.160 And so I just started watching a lot of videos about it,
00:08:51.240 kind of looking into different things that they do at the parks and how they're different from Disneyland.
00:08:56.860 There's four parks for Disney World, actually,
00:08:58.840 which I didn't know before I kind of started looking into this during quarantine.
00:09:03.100 And it was such a good way for me to kind of find joy when we were all kind of stuck at home.
00:09:07.900 And so for me to actually get to go this year was so cool.
00:09:12.240 So I wanted to talk to you guys a little bit about my experience
00:09:15.500 because I went to Disney World during a pandemic.
00:09:18.060 So how was my experience?
00:09:19.820 How did I make that work?
00:09:21.240 So I did have to wear my mask the entire day,
00:09:24.200 and everyone else was wearing their masks too.
00:09:26.120 So actually, I did want to share that I did buy some cotton masks on Amazon,
00:09:31.320 just cotton washable masks.
00:09:33.120 Those have made a huge difference for my skin.
00:09:37.120 Huge.
00:09:37.620 I was getting horrible maskne and breakouts,
00:09:40.240 and now I'm using these cotton masks.
00:09:42.060 I have not had that issue, which is so, so exciting.
00:09:47.220 So, I have so much relief about that because I was so stressed.
00:09:50.460 Every time I put on masks for a long time,
00:09:52.060 I felt like my face was going to break out,
00:09:53.380 and I wore that mask the entire day and did not have an issue.
00:09:56.040 So that was really exciting.
00:09:58.560 We also went on a day that it was not that hot outside,
00:10:01.780 so it wasn't terrible to wear a mask all day.
00:10:04.580 Now, I don't know if, depending on the mask that you're wearing,
00:10:06.920 it might be more uncomfortable.
00:10:08.260 The one that I have is a cotton mask,
00:10:10.300 and it is slightly breathable, I suppose,
00:10:12.540 but it's not thin.
00:10:13.340 So, I didn't have an issue,
00:10:15.620 but I know that maybe some people wouldn't be comfortable with that.
00:10:18.380 It was also interesting because the parks are at much lower capacity right now
00:10:21.940 because, of course, they don't want crowding,
00:10:24.380 and they don't want people kind of clumping.
00:10:26.200 They want social distancing.
00:10:27.360 So, it was actually lovely.
00:10:29.580 There were not that many people there.
00:10:31.460 People were not kind of getting in each other's faces.
00:10:34.060 People were very respectful of their distances,
00:10:36.500 and the lines might look long,
00:10:38.940 but then they never were long.
00:10:40.120 Even sometimes the posted waits were much shorter.
00:10:42.980 I got into a line that was supposed to be 30 minutes,
00:10:45.040 and it ended up being a walk-on.
00:10:46.840 Like, I just walked through the whole line,
00:10:48.460 which was really cool.
00:10:50.380 And from what I could see,
00:10:51.640 Disney was really taking care to keep everybody safe.
00:10:55.120 I felt really safe.
00:10:56.960 I felt like I could have a really wonderful time,
00:10:59.800 and I am so glad that I went.
00:11:01.760 So, if you are considering going to Disney World,
00:11:04.400 if you're somebody who is a little nervous about it,
00:11:06.980 I think that it was okay,
00:11:08.460 and I had a really great time with my husband.
00:11:11.080 Now, Jacob, he's been to Disney World before,
00:11:13.220 so it wasn't as a huge of an event for him,
00:11:15.640 but for me, it was really exciting,
00:11:17.600 and I'm really excited I got to go.
00:11:19.080 So, we actually went to Animal Kingdom,
00:11:20.880 and we got to see all the safaris.
00:11:23.060 It was really great because it wasn't that hot out,
00:11:25.740 so all the animals were out.
00:11:26.860 We could see everything,
00:11:28.040 which was really, really cool.
00:11:29.540 And after we went to Disney World,
00:11:31.020 we went to Disney Springs.
00:11:32.120 Now, Disney Springs was a lot more crowded,
00:11:34.740 but, again, I didn't feel unsafe,
00:11:37.960 but I know that some people might.
00:11:40.240 Yes, but Disney Springs was more crowded,
00:11:43.100 but Disney Springs is super cool.
00:11:45.440 I look forward to going back to Disney World at some point.
00:11:48.800 I want to go to all four parks,
00:11:50.220 and I think going to Disney Springs in the evenings is awesome.
00:11:53.240 I am just, I'm a big fan.
00:11:55.340 I had a great time.
00:11:56.760 Let me know in the comments if you've been to Disney World.
00:11:58.720 What was your favorite park,
00:12:00.020 or what was your favorite ride?
00:12:01.060 I'd really like to hear.
00:12:02.420 I wanted to talk a little bit about what I've been watching,
00:12:05.060 so I watched The Queen's Gambit.
00:12:07.500 Let me know.
00:12:08.160 Did you guys watch it?
00:12:09.020 Because I wasn't going to watch it.
00:12:11.120 I think I was kind of put off by the fact
00:12:13.280 that everyone was obsessed with it.
00:12:16.020 I was like, I'll just watch it later.
00:12:17.920 So I ended up watching it, I guess,
00:12:19.100 a little bit after it was really, really popular.
00:12:23.140 Anya Taylor-Joy was in it,
00:12:24.980 and I don't love her.
00:12:26.680 I'm not the biggest fan of hers.
00:12:29.060 She was very, very good in this, though.
00:12:31.380 So it's not to say that she's a bad actress.
00:12:33.160 I just don't think that, like, I don't know.
00:12:35.340 She's not my favorite actress,
00:12:36.880 but she was really, really good in this.
00:12:38.580 I thought the show was worth watching.
00:12:41.020 I liked that it was about chess.
00:12:42.980 I think that's really cool.
00:12:43.980 I liked that it was happening in a different era.
00:12:46.180 There's that really cool, you know, costume design,
00:12:48.560 and all that is really interesting.
00:12:51.400 I think it's hard to watch
00:12:53.160 because it's about substance abuse.
00:12:55.320 It's about a woman who's going through a lot,
00:12:57.620 and, you know, the fact of the matter is
00:13:00.540 this is a woman who is obsessed with one thing
00:13:06.420 and pursuing that one passion,
00:13:08.480 and all of the other stuff that matters
00:13:11.320 gets pushed to the wayside,
00:13:13.400 and it's, you know, it is her struggle.
00:13:16.420 It is her story,
00:13:17.540 and I don't think that that's kind of
00:13:19.160 what she would have wanted, right?
00:13:20.620 I don't think that she was looking to push everyone away.
00:13:24.760 I think that that was a result of kind of her past.
00:13:28.780 I think it's a very fascinating character study,
00:13:31.500 and I just, they build tension really well.
00:13:34.280 It's a well, it's a well-done show,
00:13:35.780 and I would recommend it
00:13:38.100 depending on kind of what vibe
00:13:40.080 you're looking for in a show,
