00:00:22.300 it was really difficult to stay classic. College is not the place for this. For a lot of people

00:00:29.720 college is an excuse to act like you're at summer camp all year long. You don't have any parental

00:00:35.580 supervision, you're hanging around with your friends all day every day and it's an excuse

00:00:41.920 not to be classic. So I think that it's a really important thing to try to keep in mind how to be

00:00:48.620 classic even when you're in a situation that isn't conducive to that sort of behavior. Now if you've

00:00:54.680 been on my channel for a long time you know what classic means but for those of you who are new

00:00:59.240 classic means being the best version of yourself, holding to traditional values, and presenting

00:01:06.260 yourself in the best way possible. We like to view things realistically as classic women and in doing 1.00

00:01:12.080 so we are able to live our happiest and most fulfilled lives. So this can be something you aim

00:01:17.680 for in high school, in college, at any point in your life but today we're going to focus on those of you

00:01:22.520 who are going back to school and want to stay classic. So here is how I stayed classic in college.

00:01:28.480 Now disclaimer, I was not as classic in my high school and college years as I am now. It's something

00:01:36.920 that I'm very open about on my channel that I really had to learn to be this classic version of

00:01:43.000 myself and I think that's a great thing because it shows that this is a process for all of us and

00:01:48.760 it's something that you're not just born with. It is something that can be learned and so even though

00:01:54.160 in my college years there were a lot of times and there were a lot of ways that I was classic there

00:01:59.000 were some ways that I weren't and I've constantly tried to improve myself over the years. So if you

00:02:04.160 are feeling a little overwhelmed or like maybe you're not as classic as you would like to be now

00:02:31.380 schlub. When I was in college the people who put in effort stood out. I would say maybe 90% of people

00:02:39.640 really didn't put an effort into their looks and didn't put an effort into their clothing and often

00:02:45.120 it looked like they had just rolled out of bed. Being classic means recognizing how important a

00:02:50.840 first impression is. You do not have a second chance at a first impression. So that means that you really

00:02:55.820 have to put effort into the way that you look and into the way that you dress. So I remember in college

00:03:00.680 I was constantly asked where I was going because I wore dresses a lot and that wasn't something that

00:03:06.360 people wore. Most of the time people were wearing leggings and kind of a schlubby sweatshirt or something

00:03:12.000 like that and even taking the simple step of putting on an easy dress made a huge difference.

00:03:17.640 So taking the time to present yourself well, brush your hair in the morning, put on a little bit of

00:03:22.900 mascara, put on a pretty dress or a cute outfit that you feel good about, those are going to be things

00:03:29.320 that are actually going to really leave a lasting impression on your colleagues, on your teachers,

00:03:34.920 and make you feel good about yourself. I constantly talk about how important it is to take care of

00:03:41.320 yourself physically because that's something that actually goes along with good mental health

00:03:45.840 and taking care of yourself, taking care of your appearance, those are things that are just going

00:03:50.380 to make you feel better and actually accomplish what you want in the long run. Now if you feel

00:03:54.760 like you're sticking out like a sore thumb a bit, don't worry about it because the fact of the matter

00:03:59.300 is no one is not going to be your friend because you're dressed well. You might just kind of end up

00:04:04.160 with that persona of somebody who does dress well and I always loved that. I always loved being the person

00:04:10.040 who is known for wearing cute outfits and I loved that. So don't worry about it. Just because you

00:04:16.260 aren't the norm doesn't mean that that's a bad thing. It's actually a great thing especially if

00:04:21.400 you look and feel your best. Number two is don't treat dating frivolously. When I was in college I did

00:04:28.540 not treat dating frivolously. Everyone on college campuses is trained to think that they should be

00:04:34.540 going out and hooking up and hanging out with people in a way that doesn't lead to relationships

00:04:40.300 and I was out there trying to date for marriage which meant I didn't date very much to be honest

00:04:45.760 but it meant that when I did date it was actually for a purpose and I didn't waste my time. I didn't

00:04:51.440 get hurt. I didn't end up in situations that were really devastating. I think it's really important

00:04:58.380 to take yourself seriously and give respect to yourself by not putting your body out there in

00:05:05.880 the way that everyone else is going to be encouraging you to do on a college campus. Dating for fun is

00:05:12.100 never actually fun. It ends up being really messy and painful. So dating for marriage, dating seriously,

00:05:19.860 that is going to keep you classic, keep you feeling your best and make sure that you are really being

00:05:27.060 true to what's best for you. Number three is don't do drugs. I did not touch drugs in college. I've

00:05:34.760 never touched drugs so it's not like much has changed but I didn't do drugs in college. I really

00:05:40.320 didn't drink in college either and I am so glad I did not touch those things because people make

00:05:46.100 the worst decisions when they are high or drunk and away from home. It's so easy to get wrapped up

00:05:52.840 in things when you are inebriated and you don't want to be caught in a situation that you're not

00:05:59.120 in control of when you aren't around people that you can trust. It's just a terrible idea and not

00:06:05.660 only that, even if you're in a safe situation, doing drugs and drinking a lot ends up getting in the way

00:06:11.660 of why you're at school. You're at school to learn. You're at school to make friends and socialize

00:06:17.200 but not to waste your time by letting yourself get totally out of control. And again, it is so easy

00:06:22.780 in college to get caught up in the culture which does encourage drinking and drugs. But being a

00:06:29.540 classic woman means saying no to those things and recognizing that it's most important for you to

00:06:36.180 study hard, make friends, and stay collected. And those are things that you can't do if you are

00:06:42.980 high or drunk. Number four is stay close with your family. When I was in college, I stayed really close

00:06:49.860 with my parents. I stayed close with my family. I lived at home for the first couple of years. And

00:06:54.780 I'm so glad that I did. I think that a lot of the time, again, people get caught up in the culture of

00:07:01.500 college campuses, which is kind of like summer camp. No one is going to be telling me what to do.

00:07:06.140 I have no responsibilities. And it's so important to retain that support system from home.

00:07:12.980 So even if you're not living close to home, make sure to have regular calls with your parents. Make

00:07:17.640 sure to stay in touch with your siblings. And they'll also remind you of what is important.

00:07:22.320 Because when you're at college, everyone there is still trying to figure themselves out. And a lot

00:07:27.340 of them want to break away from what they're coming from. And so if they're totally starting from scratch,

00:07:32.760 they're going to be judgy of you if you feel like the traditional values you grew up with are

00:07:37.640 actually good and important. So it's good to call your parents and check in. It's good to call your

00:07:42.420 siblings and check in and have that support system of the people who love you and care about you and

00:07:48.200 want to see you grow and be happy. And you know that you can always depend on your family. So stay

00:07:54.100 in touch with your family. Make sure you don't let yourself get caught up in the craziness that is a

00:07:59.160 college campus. And in doing that, you'll stay classic. Last but not least is work your hardest.

00:08:05.580 When you're at college, it's easy to get caught up in the idea that college is not about your work.

00:08:10.240 It's not about studying. It's about socializing and having friends and doing all of the stupid 1.00

00:08:16.840 things that people do when they think there are no consequences. But the fact of the matter is 0.99

00:08:21.380 that you can have a great social life and work hard at school. And you should definitely work

00:08:27.740 at having both of those things. If you have no social life, you'll be unhappy and it won't be good

00:08:32.180 for you either. But you should try to take advantage of this time in your life where you're actually

00:08:35.680 getting to learn things that will benefit you in the future. So going to your classes, studying for

00:08:40.580 your tests, writing your papers, learning and finding knowledge in things that are actually

00:08:45.820 important and that will inform your work later, that is invaluable. I loved school when I was in

00:08:52.420 college. I worked really hard. I went to all of my classes unless it was a Jewish holiday. I was

00:08:57.900 always studying for my tests. I wrote all my papers. And I think I came out of college feeling

00:09:02.820 really confident in what I'd learned. And that was huge to me. I didn't want to go to college,

00:09:07.820 come out with a degree that I didn't care about and I hadn't worked for. And I got my degree in

00:09:13.100 operatic performance. And it was something I loved. And I felt really equipped to be an opera singer

00:09:19.180 in the world. And I think a big part of that was because I worked so hard and because I cared about

00:09:24.160 the topics. So let your college experience be fun and social, but make sure that you're actually

00:09:29.920 doing the work. Because being a classic woman, as we know, is about being the best version of you.

00:09:36.040 And the best version of yourself is the version of yourself that takes the time to learn. So work

00:09:40.860 your hardest because at the end of the day, you're never going to regret having done your best in
