Hello, beautiful ladies, and welcome to today's video of The Scoop.
00:00:06.360
So last week I launched the first episode in this series, which I call The Scoop,
00:00:10.740
and I kind of described it there, but I thought I would just give you a brief overview in case you missed it.
00:00:14.960
It's our opportunity to talk, catch up, and just chill out like we were in a coffee shop.
00:00:19.540
And I'll just let you guys know kind of what I've been up to this past week,
00:00:22.720
and then you guys can totally share what you've been up to in the comments.
00:00:25.820
I like to spend a little bit of time down there and communicate with you guys
00:00:30.700
So I'm really excited to get started with today's video, so let's get into it.
00:00:34.060
The first thing I want to talk about is a little bit of pop culture stuff.
00:00:36.920
So Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner just had a baby.
00:00:42.580
I don't know if you guys watched him on Disney Channel growing up.
00:00:46.540
He was in Camp Rock, and he and his brothers did that song, The Year 3000.
00:00:51.180
I think it was a cover, actually, not their original song,
00:00:53.360
but I remember jamming out to that when I was in middle school.
00:00:56.000
And Sophie Turner is probably most well-known from being on Game of Thrones.
00:00:59.760
And they got married in May of 2019, and they just had a baby.
00:01:06.380
They named their daughter Willa, which is a very pretty name, I think.
00:01:10.660
And I always love hearing about celebrities who take the more traditional route,
00:01:15.680
It makes me very happy because I tend to think that these people do have influence.
00:01:20.160
And so if they're going to be living their lives very publicly, very openly,
00:01:24.320
it's nice when they choose to do something that's inspirational for young women and young men,
00:01:29.560
and they choose to do something that is more traditional
00:01:32.220
so that maybe they do influence somebody to wait until marriage to have children.
00:01:36.320
Actually, all three brothers did get married, and none of them have children.
00:01:39.920
So I'm sure they're going to all be doing a more traditional route for their families,
00:01:46.000
The Jonas Brothers, growing up, they wore purity rings.
00:01:48.500
They definitely were a little bit more on the traditional side.
00:01:52.180
I think as they aged out of Disney Channel, they decided to become less traditional.
00:01:56.540
But evidently, they still have traditional values because they all got married
00:02:00.620
and didn't have children before they got married.
00:02:05.820
The oldest brother, Kevin Jonas, he used the same florist for his wedding that my husband and I used,
00:02:14.240
and they obviously have that on, like, a little pedestal,
00:02:16.420
a little stand showing that, oh, we did this for a celebrity,
00:02:21.200
Now, I did talk about in a tweet last year that I'm not the biggest fan of the video
00:02:25.580
that came out with the three brothers and their wives.
00:02:28.020
I felt like it was a little bit more about the lust aspect of their love,
00:02:33.600
But the fact of the matter is they did do the right thing.
00:02:42.680
It's not to say that lust is just totally off the table,
00:02:45.460
but it's a little bit different when it's in marriage than it is otherwise.
00:02:48.780
And I don't feel like it necessarily reflects on marriage in the best way
00:02:52.080
if the reason that you marry someone is for lust.
00:02:57.040
But as of now, I'm very happy that they had children.
00:03:03.760
that the whole Jonas family is kind of following that more traditional route.
00:03:07.900
Next up, I want to talk about my trip to Kansas City.
00:03:10.360
So my husband and I went to Kansas City this past weekend.
00:03:15.860
So Kansas City is about three hours away from Omaha.
00:03:18.700
So it's not the easiest thing to get to, but it's not super far either.
00:03:23.840
We just hadn't had an opportunity to do it yet.
00:03:28.420
And it's always really fun to see a city that you've never been to.
00:03:30.860
So I wanted to say a few of the highlights that we saw while we were there.
00:03:33.960
And also, if anybody has recommendations for other places we should visit while we're there,
00:03:42.340
Because all of the research that I was doing was only what I could garner from the internet.
00:03:46.000
So I'd really love to hear if you guys have any recommendations,
00:03:48.700
if you've been there, if you live there, whatever it might be.
00:04:00.860
They have a really good audio guide, which I really appreciated.
00:04:03.500
And from what I understand, it's the only World War I Museum in the country.
00:04:06.920
So that's pretty crazy that there's only one, and it's only three hours from our house.
00:04:15.760
And it gave me a deeper understanding for why World War I happened.
00:04:19.660
Because very often, World War I is just kind of glossed over like this was just some crazy
00:04:25.000
And World War II seems to have more of a clear, you know, villain and hero as far as the allies
00:04:31.860
But World War I had its reasons too, and I don't think it's taught very well in schools.
00:04:37.360
So it was good to learn even more about it while we were there.
00:04:42.940
It's very impressive, and it has a lot to offer.
00:04:46.160
Next up, we went to the Power and Light District.
00:04:51.080
So next up, we went to the Power and Light District.
00:04:52.900
So basically what the Power and Light District is, is this really cool area filled with different
00:04:56.640
shops, bars, whatever it is that you're interested in, restaurants, and it's all lit up, and it's
00:05:03.880
And one of the really, really awesome parts of it is there's this big outdoor seating area
00:05:09.340
that has a roof covered just in case it rains, but it is mostly outdoor.
00:05:13.900
And all of these restaurants and bars kind of circle it, and if you sit in the middle,
00:05:18.460
you can order from any one of them, and they'll bring out your food or your drinks, which
00:05:23.140
And they have this huge screen right at the front, and they were playing the UFC fights.
00:05:27.960
Now, if you follow me on Instagram and Twitter, you probably know that my husband really loves
00:05:34.140
I'm obviously not as much of a fan as he is, but I really do like watching it with him.
00:05:38.840
So they had that up while we were there, and they also had live music.
00:05:42.140
So there was live music playing while the UFC fight was going on, but it was just a really
00:05:47.840
It's a really cool area, and if you're ever in Kansas City, I would definitely recommend hitting
00:05:55.780
It's a gorgeous outdoor shopping area that was actually built in 1923, but if you look
00:06:03.320
It almost looks like some of them have been renovated, so they may have been.
00:06:07.800
If I didn't know that already, I would love to kind of correct my own knowledge on that,
00:06:13.320
They have so many great stores, coffee shops, restaurants.
00:06:16.760
Anything you're looking for would be right in that area.
00:06:19.160
And what I've heard is that in the wintertime, it has gorgeous lights, which I wish we could
00:06:23.800
have seen, but unfortunately, we didn't get to see that because it's the summer.
00:06:26.520
But it was really beautiful, and there's a lot of other places in Kansas City that we
00:06:32.260
But it seems like a really, really cool town, and I hope we get another chance to get there.
00:06:36.560
Next up, I want to talk about what I've been watching and what I've been listening
00:06:39.520
So I have been listening to some podcasts, one with my husband and then one on my own.
00:06:44.300
So the one with my husband I've been listening to is called Revolutions.
00:06:47.880
It's been around for quite some time, and we're starting from the very beginning, but
00:06:54.480
It's like listening to a story, because history is.
00:06:57.760
So what he does is he's going through different periods of revolutions, and the first one we've
00:07:02.140
been listening to is King Charles, which was in the mid-1600s, early 1600s to mid-1600s,
00:07:11.180
We actually started listening to it on our trip to Kansas City, and then we listened
00:07:16.140
But it is so interesting, and the way this guy tells you about the history makes you on
00:07:23.200
Who are all these characters, and how do they come into play?
00:07:27.600
So he starts off talking about King Charles I in the 1600s.
00:07:33.560
He wasn't supposed to take over, but his older brother died, so he ended up being the next
00:07:38.100
And his whole argument with Parliament, where he kept dissolving them.
00:07:41.940
So everything I've listened to so far is super interesting.
00:07:44.680
I'm really happy to get to listen to it because I love when my podcasts teach me something.
00:07:53.700
So this one definitely falls under educational, but it also is fun to listen to, and it's not
00:07:59.500
Whereas the other podcast I'm listening to, which I'm sure some of you guys have heard
00:08:05.320
So if you ever watched The Office, then you would love this podcast.
00:08:09.540
Basically what it is, is that the woman who plays Pam, Jenna Fisher, and the woman who
00:08:13.820
played Angela, Angela Kinsey, talk about each episode and review it, and get people from
00:08:19.080
the show or who produce the show to come talk about it.
00:08:24.500
And if you have a Netflix subscription, you can actually watch the episodes before you
00:08:28.660
listen, and you'll be like, oh yeah, I remember this thing.
00:08:31.400
Or if you've seen it a bunch of times, you'll already recognize it.
00:08:34.960
But Jenna Fisher and Angela Kinsey were actually best friends when they were on The Office.
00:08:38.940
And now, of course, they're still best friends.
00:08:40.920
So when they talk about this, it's from this perspective of, oh, we're friends, we were there
00:08:47.900
I've learned so much about the different things in each episode, which is really fun to hear.
00:08:52.080
And it's just something to kind of have on in the background while I'm exercising or
00:08:57.800
It's not something I have to focus really hard on, which is nice.
00:09:00.860
It's not like I have to remember all of this information.
00:09:06.340
So if you haven't checked out that podcast, I would definitely recommend listening to it.
00:09:10.120
And if you've watched The Office, let me know in the comments below who's your
00:09:14.420
favorite character and what's your favorite season.
00:09:16.900
I'd really love to hear your guys' thoughts on that.
00:09:23.240
Favorite character is hard because there's your favorite character who you identify with
00:09:29.220
And then there's your favorite character who cracks you up and is ridiculous.
00:09:32.480
Dwight is probably my favorite character who's just ridiculous because he goes into crazy
00:09:42.000
And then my favorite character who I like, who is like someone I'd want to hang out with,
00:09:48.900
I think they're funny in the show for what they are, but I just don't like pranks generally.
00:09:52.840
So I would guess it would be Pam because even though Pam is pranky, she's not really
00:10:01.020
I understand why she's living her life the way that she is.
00:10:03.360
Although it's difficult for me at the beginning when she doesn't just come out and say how she
00:10:08.320
I'm one of those people who can't keep that bottled up at all.
00:10:11.700
So to watch her struggle with that for the first three seasons is difficult, but it makes
00:10:22.000
And then the season that's my favorite would probably be the season where Jim and Pam get
00:10:30.900
I, of course, watched Enchanted growing up, and I loved the idea that there was the girl
00:10:36.320
who was in the cartoon and she came to New York and lived as a real person.
00:10:43.180
I felt like she and I were very similar because, of course, I picture myself as a Disney princess.
00:10:49.360
But also her relationship to positivity and seeing the best in everyone is just something
00:10:56.320
It's something that I think I do kind of naturally.
00:11:01.280
And then Patrick Dempsey's character, who's much more of a realist and can be a little
00:11:05.240
bit more cynical but is uplifted by her, I always thought was a really interesting interplay
00:11:10.760
between their characters and the fact that she doesn't end up with the prince, but that
00:11:13.380
Idina Menzel ends up with the prince, so it works out.
00:11:15.760
But what's funny is that as I was watching this movie, I started to realize that I really
00:11:20.420
think that Patrick Dempsey's character is similar to my husband.
00:11:23.600
And so it kind of ended up playing out in the same way as in the movie, like in my life,
00:11:29.220
where Giselle is more of the positive one and she makes him more positive, but he brings
00:11:35.740
That's definitely my relationship with my husband.
00:11:41.520
And it's really funny to watch that because I was like, why does this guy seem so familiar?
00:11:46.180
And it's funny that I always liked his character because I ended up with someone similar to
00:11:51.060
So that was a really funny thing to notice as I was watching the movie.
00:12:01.040
Now, I'm not a huge fan of the ending, mostly because I don't want to see Patrick Dempsey get
00:12:07.180
It's not really like she saves him, but he's still a damsel in distress.
00:12:10.040
So I wasn't the biggest fan of that at the end, but I did like the story up till then.
00:12:17.600
She's wearing gorgeous dresses throughout the movie.
00:12:20.500
And then her big reveal dress is that, that purple thing.
00:12:25.700
Also, her hair was so beautiful throughout the movie.
00:12:29.100
I understand they're trying to transition her from cartoon to reality, but I like the way
00:12:38.020
But let me know in the comments what you guys think about her dress at the end, if you've
00:12:41.880
seen Enchanted and what your favorite song is from that movie.
00:12:48.740
But that's it for today's episode of The Scoop.
