00:00:24.280 an accessories person. But for me, jewelry was always a way to express myself. It was always a

00:00:29.640 way to bring a little bit of flair to my outfit, and I always thought it was so incredibly feminine.

00:00:34.980 And I think there are ways to wear jewelry that can just make you look even more classic, even more

00:00:39.180 feminine. There are so many things that we as women can do to make ourselves more feminine, the way we

00:00:43.740 do our hair, the clothes we wear, the purse we choose to use, the shoes. But jewelry is unique because it

00:00:49.660 is so beautiful. It is something that I very much associate with women, and it's a gift that many men

00:00:54.900 give their wives. So it's something that is imbued with meaning, and it also is something that makes

00:00:59.820 you look even more beautiful. So I'm really excited to talk about this today. So let's get into it.

00:01:04.460 My first piece of advice is to have a mix of both dainty jewelry and statement jewelry, so you can

00:01:09.600 mix it up and figure out what works with what outfit, what's good for each occasion. So I know that

00:01:14.460 my collection of jewelry has both dainty pieces and statement pieces. I tend to like daintier pieces

00:01:20.700 better. But there are times that those big statement pieces actually work better with the

00:01:24.640 outfit. Or there are times that I'm just in the mood to wear something that's a little bit more

00:01:27.980 out there and fun looking, and I just enjoy more. So it really just depends on kind of what I'm

00:01:32.060 feeling that day or what I'm wearing. And I like to have that option, to have the choices. So I like

00:01:37.580 the idea that you could have a certain style of jewelry that you enjoy, but just having a few pieces

00:01:42.700 that are different that would work for those different occasions that you might wear them for. So for

00:01:46.840 example, if you're going to wear a t-shirt and jeans, wearing a daintier piece of jewelry is

00:01:51.260 probably going to look better with that because it's not trying to compete with a casual outfit

00:01:55.360 by dressing it up. It's just kind of going with the flow. It's something easy and light. But if

00:01:59.880 you're going to be wearing something that's really fancy, and maybe it's a little bit more plain, so

00:02:03.540 it's not like you're competing with the outfit up at the neckline, you might choose to wear a big

00:02:07.780 statement necklace or big statement earrings to dress it up even further. And finding those pieces,

00:02:12.000 having that array in your collection is going to make it so much more fun when you look into your

00:02:17.220 jewelry box and you see that you have so many different options to choose from that would

00:02:21.160 really be better for whatever you're wearing or for wherever you're going. Now, there's also

00:02:25.440 different times in your life that different pieces are going to work better. When you have kids,

00:02:29.460 a lot of the time babies will pull on jewelry. They'll pull on necklaces. They'll pull on earrings.

00:02:34.780 So wearing pieces that are smaller, that won't really be in the way, that you can tuck into a shirt or

00:02:43.900 things that they can see. Whereas if you're going to a cocktail party and there are not going to be

00:02:47.500 any kids around, wearing that big statement necklace might be perfect for that. So having those different

00:02:51.940 choices is just going to make your outfits and your looks even more exciting and you'll have more

00:02:56.880 variety in your accessories. So an example of a dainty earring would be these really small hoops,

00:03:02.800 which I absolutely love. You can wear them for days on end and you can sleep in them because the back

00:03:09.120 clasps on so it's not going to poke you while you're sleeping, which I love. Plus they really

00:03:13.760 just go with everything. They can be casual enough to wear with a t-shirt, but they're also dressy

00:03:17.600 enough that you could wear them with something that's a little bit more elevated. And they're

00:03:20.880 just easy and you don't have to think about it. But then on the other side of the spectrum,

00:03:24.040 I have these statement earrings, which I got from J.Crew, which are really fun and exciting,

00:03:29.020 but are heavier and wouldn't go with a lot of different things. But they might just go with that

00:03:33.280 perfect look. And I like that I have these two options. And then looking at necklaces,

00:03:38.080 I bought this really fun chunky choker that I think is really beautiful and it's gold. It's

00:03:43.460 from Forever 21, so it's like $5, but I just think it's fun. But this is the kind of choker

00:03:47.420 that's interesting because you can definitely wear this choker with a t-shirt and it would look

00:03:51.780 pretty cool, but you could also wear it with a dress that's beautiful and it would look beautiful.

00:03:56.580 So this is an interesting piece. But on the other end of the spectrum, I have this pretty little

00:04:00.640 pendant that doesn't really draw attention and it's actually kind of similar. You could wear this

00:04:05.020 with a t-shirt and it would be really pretty, but you could also wear it with a dress. So funnily

00:04:09.440 enough, in this situation, the statement necklace and the dainty piece can kind of act similarly,

00:04:14.320 but they'll definitely bring a different vibe to each outfit. So that's why it's fun to have

00:04:19.560 that variety. Number two is figure out what color metal looks best on you, because then you'll know

00:04:25.480 what you want to buy with those really big purchases. So there's really like three colors of metal

00:04:29.800 right now. There's yellow gold, white gold or silver and rose gold. And those three are kind

00:04:35.500 of the most popular right now. I would say that usually when people are talking about wedding

00:04:39.340 rings, they're usually talking about yellow gold or white gold or platinum or something. And those

00:04:44.440 are the two colors that people are talking about more than rose gold, but rose gold is also in the

00:04:49.560 mix. And figuring out what color works best on you is going to make a big difference for when you're

00:04:55.220 kind of figuring out what kind of jewelry you want to start building for your own collection.

00:05:00.280 So for me, I love gold. Yellow gold is one of my favorite metals. And it's really because I think

00:05:06.340 my mom's wedding ring is gold, yellow gold. And I always loved that color. I think it's just so pretty.

00:05:11.760 But the fact of the matter is that silver actually looks a little bit better on my skin tone.

00:05:15.360 Just because gold can sort of fade into my skin, I have a little bit of a yellowish undertone.

00:05:20.280 So that can actually not look as good on me. Does that mean I never wear yellow gold?

00:05:25.020 Absolutely not. I have yellow gold on right now. These bracelets are both yellow gold.

00:05:28.620 But when I'm looking at like the really big purchases in my life, usually I'm going to go

00:05:33.260 with a silver because I know that it looks a little bit better on me, that I like the way it looks on

00:05:37.420 me better. And so if you look at my wedding rings, for example, these are platinum. And I'm happy that

00:05:41.820 they are because it looks a little bit better on my skin. Now there are certain skin types that look

00:05:46.740 better in certain different colors. And figuring out which colors look best on you is going to make your

00:05:51.060 life easier only because you'll generally choose to wear the jewelry that you have that you think

00:05:56.580 looks best on you. So if you like gold, but it doesn't look as good on you, you may not generally

00:06:01.480 lean toward it when you're looking into your collection. But again, it really depends, right?

00:06:06.200 If you're somebody who does love yellow gold and it doesn't matter to you what looks best on you,

00:06:09.800 then buy that. Go for that. But figuring out what looks good on you, figuring out what you enjoy to

00:06:15.000 wear, that's going to really influence your jewelry collection. And it's going to make you happier in the long

00:06:19.720 run when you look into your jewelry collection. Number three is that if you enjoy heavy earrings,

00:06:25.020 don't wear them for a long time. Now you may have seen this or read this online or in a magazine,

00:06:30.260 but heavy earrings can actually pull on your earlobe and just make it look longer and saggier over time.

00:06:35.800 And if you're wearing heavy statement earrings all of the time, it's really going to start to affect

00:06:41.040 the way that your earlobe looks. Now, if you only wear your statement earrings for three or four hours at a

00:06:46.640 time in the evenings or when you go out to a party, then the elasticity in your ear is going to bounce

00:06:52.140 back a little bit easier than if you're constantly wearing heavy earrings. So what I like to do is

00:06:57.220 wear my statement earrings if I go out to dinner or I go to a cocktail party or if I'm going out for an

00:07:02.760 evening for maybe three or four hours. But then during the day, I'll wear lighter, daintier earrings.

00:07:07.780 Now, if you're interested in getting statement earrings, but you don't like the heavy ones,

00:07:10.480 that's also great because there are a ton of statement earrings that are not heavy at all and still kind of do

00:07:16.640 statement earrings. But those earrings that I showed you earlier, these ones here, are actually really

00:07:20.980 heavy. And so if I wear them for even four or five hours, it starts to kind of like yank on my ear

00:07:26.900 and it's uncomfortable. So I like to keep them on for short periods of time and I really like how

00:07:31.200 they look, but I don't want to wear them all day to the point where my ear is really just starting to

00:07:35.800 sag. So that's my piece of advice when it comes to heavy earrings. Number four is don't treat your

00:07:41.880 costume jewelry like you might treat your real jewelry. So when you have real jewelry, if you

00:07:47.200 have platinum or gold or silver, if it's treated, you can wear that in the shower and you can get

00:07:52.840 it wet and it will be fine. It won't get really messed up. It won't get affected. Of course, you

00:07:57.440 still want to take care of your pieces, so it's probably not best to do that consistently, but it

00:08:01.500 won't be a huge problem. If you have costume jewelry and you do the same thing, then it will start to

00:08:07.140 tarnish. It'll break apart. It'll start to smell like metal and you won't really want to wear it

00:08:11.980 after that because it's an inexpensive piece and if you want it to last a long time, because I have

00:08:16.680 costume pieces that I've had for maybe even 10 years, but it's because I didn't wear them in the

00:08:21.320 shower. I didn't wear them in the pool, but if you want them to last, you have to treat them like their

00:08:25.820 costume jewelry. So you can't wear them in the shower. You can't get them wet very often because it won't

00:08:30.520 react very well to that. I actually bought a star choker off of Amazon that I wore in a bunch of my

00:08:36.160 videos. And I was really excited because I liked the idea of wearing a necklace for most of the

00:08:40.140 summer and not really worrying about taking it off, but that's not the kind of jewelry you can do that

00:08:44.340 with because I did wear it in the pool, I did wear it in the bath, and it really did just start to

00:08:49.200 break apart. And my husband at some point, he was like, why do you smell like metal? And that was the

00:08:54.180 moment I thought to myself, this isn't great. I should probably take this off and maybe even toss it.

00:08:59.500 So if you're going to get a necklace like that, which, hey, I'm a proponent of, they're inexpensive and

00:09:04.240 they're pretty, and they can last a while if you treat them well, don't get them wet, don't wear

00:09:08.060 them in the pool, and don't wear them when you're bathing. Number five is to have a mix of meaningful

00:09:12.440 jewelry and costume jewelry. So this is a little bit different than the dainty jewelry and the

00:09:16.660 statement jewelry. This is a little bit more of an emotional thing. So a lot of the time, jewelry is

00:09:21.300 a gift that your boyfriend or your husband will give you. He'll give you something that he bought for

00:09:25.600 an occasion or he bought because he thought of you. And those pieces can be really, really meaningful.

00:09:30.840 But there are other times that you're just out shopping, you see something you like and

00:09:33.960 you buy it. And that kind of piece also deserves a place in your collection. But having that

00:09:38.100 mix of things that really matter to you and that really, when you wear them, make you think

00:09:42.020 good thoughts and pieces that just kind of go with your outfits and your accessories is totally

00:09:47.100 great. And it means that you can have some pieces that really mean a lot and then some

00:09:51.140 pieces that are, like, just nice that go with your style and that would make your outfits

00:09:55.900 more you. So a good example is exactly what I'm wearing right now. This necklace is really

00:10:00.640 meaningful to me. My husband bought this for me on our one-year anniversary. It's actually

00:10:04.560 double-sided. I just love this necklace so much and it means so much to me. And whenever

00:10:09.420 I wear it, it makes me remember that one-year anniversary, what we did, and how it felt when

00:10:13.840 he gave it to me. And then these earrings I got at TJ Maxx just because I liked them.

00:10:17.820 I wear them all the time. And then if you look at my hand, it's the same thing. These are

00:10:21.640 my wedding rings and my engagement ring. These obviously mean the world to me. And then these

00:10:52.940 very dressy, but it is beautiful and it means so much to me. So when I do get the opportunity

00:10:57.880 to wear it, you can bet that I'm wearing it. But then on the other side of the spectrum

00:11:19.000 your outfit. I think a lot of times people don't necessarily think about how

00:11:32.680 dangly earrings with your t-shirt that says rosé all day, maybe not the best mix, but

00:11:37.200 wearing a small pair of hoops with that shirt would look great. Wearing those dangly earrings

00:11:41.460 with a cocktail dress would look perfect. Figuring out what pieces go with what outfits is going

00:11:47.400 to make your looks go from good to great. So one thing that I learned in the last two

00:11:51.860 years is that if I'm wearing a button down shirt, it's actually really pretty to wear

00:11:56.420 a statement necklace underneath it. So it's kind of this little surprise when you look

00:13:08.100 add a little bit of flair and variety to my collection. But generally, I do like daintier

00:13:13.580 pieces more. I like a little small earring or a little small necklace. That kind of thing

00:13:25.200 who feel the same way, who don't want to think about their jewelry at all. They want to be able to put

00:16:50.100 gym or something and weight lift, wearing your wedding rings when you do that is just going to

00:16:54.660 beat them up a little bit. Now, do I do that sometimes? Yes. Mostly because I forget because

00:16:59.920 I have these on all the time. But if you want to get a silicone rubber ring like this, something like

00:17:04.800 this might be a good solution for you because you can weight lift with this. It shows that you're still

00:17:08.740 married, but it doesn't damage your rings. It doesn't create a problem. You can even wear something like

00:17:13.320 this to the beach if you're worried about it. Or if you're wanting to wear something to the pool,

00:17:16.720 this would be a good option and a good solution. I think they can just be a good way to protect

00:17:20.640 your fine jewelry without taking off your wedding rings and walking around without a wedding ring.
