Summary

Mother's Day is a day where we celebrate the women in our lives who are such wonderful mothers. And it's nice to remember them on a day that's supposed to be about love and gratitude. But I think there's a better way to celebrate them than by focusing on the sadness around them.

00:00:00.080 Hello, Classic Crew, and welcome to another episode of The Scoop.

00:00:12.700 go over what went on over the course of the week,
00:00:15.060 and just act like we're grabbing a cup of coffee together.
00:00:17.820 So before we get into today's episode,
00:00:19.840 I would love if you would consider subscribing to my Substack newsletter.
00:00:23.600 In my Substack newsletter, you'll get access to exclusive content
00:00:26.740 not available anywhere else.

00:00:37.240 So I would love if you would consider subscribing over there,
00:00:40.040 as well as hitting the notification bell here and subscribing to this channel.
00:00:43.800 So now that we've got that out of the way,
00:00:45.880 grab a cup of coffee like I have here, and let's get into it.
00:00:49.320 So I can't really figure out my hair today.
00:00:52.220 I tried something with putting it up while I was sleeping,
00:00:54.880 and it sort of half fell out and half didn't,
00:00:57.080 and I didn't want to put it up in a ponytail
00:00:59.120 because some of the curls looked good enough,
00:01:01.960 but I don't know how it looks today.
00:01:03.560 So I don't feel great about it,
00:01:05.160 but I'd love to know what you guys think.
00:01:08.080 Actually, if it's mean, don't tell me.
00:01:09.620 I don't want to know.
00:01:10.540 But in any case, I'm excited to get into today's video.
00:01:13.840 We have a lot to talk about.
00:01:15.880 And so the first thing I wanted to talk about today
00:01:17.640 are my thoughts on Mother's Day.
00:01:19.720 So Mother's Day is a lovely holiday
00:01:21.420 in which we celebrate mothers
00:01:23.260 and we celebrate how wonderful they are.
00:01:25.680 And reading here, I actually looked it up,
00:01:27.480 and I didn't know this,
00:01:28.740 but Mother's Day started with the initiative of Anna Jarvis
00:01:31.560 in the early 20th century
00:01:33.040 who organized the first Mother's Day service of worship
00:01:35.760 and celebration at Andrews Methodist Episcopal Church
00:01:38.980 in Grafton, West Virginia.
00:01:40.480 I did not know that.
00:01:41.360 I always thought that it was more of a Hallmark holiday,
00:01:43.300 but now I know where it actually originated.
00:01:45.640 And the last few years,
00:01:48.600 something I've noticed a lot during Mother's Day
00:01:51.160 is that people want to focus on the people
00:01:54.800 who are suffering on Mother's Day and comfort them.
00:01:58.500 And they'll make these pictures that say
00:02:01.020 to the women who have lost mothers
00:02:03.280 or to the women who have lost children
00:02:04.880 or to the women who don't have a great relationship
00:02:08.300 with their mothers.
00:02:09.380 And I think it's a really nice thought
00:02:12.960 to go out of your way
00:02:14.420 to consider the pain of others
00:02:16.240 on a day that's for celebration.
00:02:18.080 But often I find that
00:02:19.540 that's the only thing people will post.
00:02:21.760 They'll post something just about
00:02:23.620 the sad side of Mother's Day,
00:02:25.580 and they won't take into account
00:02:27.220 the amazing celebration and happiness of Mother's Day.
00:02:31.380 And as someone who had a miscarriage
00:02:33.400 and theoretically could have looked at Mother's Day
00:02:35.940 and been really down about it,
00:02:38.480 I didn't want to think of Mother's Day as a sad day.
00:02:43.420 I wanted to look at Mother's Day
00:02:45.300 as something that is really special.
00:02:47.280 It's one day a year that we get to celebrate
00:02:49.160 the mothers in our lives and be happy about it.
00:02:52.720 And so even though I think that the thought
00:02:54.440 of going out of your way to consider other people's suffering
00:02:57.180 is really important and really nice,
00:02:59.560 I don't think that every celebration
00:03:01.360 also needs to focus on sadness.
00:03:04.800 I think that it's good sometimes
00:03:06.720 to just focus on the happy side of things.
00:03:10.040 And if we want to celebrate mothers,
00:03:12.600 it doesn't always have to be
00:03:13.980 at the expense of someone else.
00:03:15.960 It's not about who we're leaving out.
00:03:18.500 It's about who we're lifting up.
00:03:20.140 I think that there is a way to do both.
00:03:22.220 I think you can post a picture
00:03:23.900 where you are thinking of all of those in pain,
00:03:26.400 and then also continue to live your day
00:03:28.180 in happiness and joy
00:03:29.480 and celebrating the mothers around you.
00:03:31.580 But I think so often we get caught up
00:03:33.340 in the sadness side of things.
00:03:35.040 And let's take advantage of days like Mother's Day.
00:03:37.520 Let's bring joy to the women in our lives
00:03:40.320 who are such great mothers
00:03:41.520 and to the Mother's Day
00:03:44.020 that hopefully you and I will celebrate in the future.
00:03:47.460 So I wanted to talk about this.
00:03:49.640 I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments,
00:03:51.240 what you guys think about it,
00:03:52.400 because maybe this is controversial.
00:03:54.600 I don't know, but these are my thoughts on it.
00:03:56.580 So yeah, I'd love to hear what you guys think.
00:03:59.120 This week has been so crazy for me.
00:04:02.160 I've been putting out multiple videos.
00:04:04.780 I've been working on a ton of content for you guys,
00:04:06.800 and I've actually been loving it.
00:04:08.900 But I have to say that as the weather gets nicer,
00:04:11.480 staying inside longer to do work is a tricky one.
00:04:14.800 I'm not somebody who likes to stay inside
00:04:17.040 when the weather is beautiful.
00:04:19.200 And at some point in my life,
00:04:20.780 I dream about having a lanai or a patio
00:04:24.380 that has a really nice sitting area
00:04:26.980 where I can do my work and also enjoy the weather.
00:04:29.980 Does anyone have that?
00:04:31.100 Because if you do,
00:04:31.940 I feel like I would use it all the time,
00:04:33.800 but I don't have one, so I don't know.
00:04:36.740 So let me know in the comments
00:04:38.140 if you work outside when you can.
00:04:40.560 Next up, I wanted to talk about the bachelorette brunch
00:04:42.900 that I planned for my girlfriend this coming weekend.
00:04:45.600 So I'm so excited for her.
00:04:47.120 She has had a crazy time with COVID
00:04:50.340 and replanning her wedding multiple times.
00:04:52.800 So she's finally getting married.
00:04:54.420 So excited for her.
00:04:55.800 And I asked if I could plan her bachelorette brunch,
00:04:58.200 and she said, absolutely.
00:04:59.540 So we're getting together a few of her friends
00:05:01.980 and we're all going to brunch together.
00:05:04.660 And I have a few games planned.
00:05:06.900 I also got little gift bags for everyone
00:05:09.240 that I put some extra skincare
00:05:11.060 that I was given by a brand
00:05:12.560 that I worked with a while back.
00:05:13.860 So I figured I would give those
00:05:15.560 as kind of a gift bag to all of the different girls.
00:05:18.460 And as well, I also put some special things in
00:05:21.400 for the bride, but I think it'll be really fun
00:05:23.760 and I can't wait.
00:05:25.300 I love having girls' days.
00:05:26.840 I love celebrating.
00:05:28.820 I love specific celebrations, birthdays, anniversaries,
00:05:33.080 weddings, all of that stuff makes me so happy.
00:05:35.960 I think it's really lovely to take advantage
00:05:38.260 of those events in our lives
00:05:39.860 that are special and important
00:05:41.820 and to find joy in them.
00:05:44.100 So I'm really looking forward to that.
00:05:46.200 Next up, let's talk about a few things
00:05:47.580 that are in the news this week.
00:05:49.360 So gas shortages.
00:05:51.380 So Colonial Pipeline was hacked
00:05:53.540 by a ransomware cyber attack.
00:05:56.140 So I had to look up what ransomware meant.
00:05:58.840 What it actually means is that it locks out
00:06:01.120 the rightful user of a computer or computer network
00:06:04.000 and holds it hostage until the victim pays a fee.
00:06:07.920 Ransomware gangs have also threatened
00:06:09.380 to leak sensitive information
00:06:11.000 in order to get victims to meet their demands.
00:06:13.900 So it's very serious stuff.
00:06:15.640 And so what happened was Colonial Pipeline
00:06:17.180 had to shut down operations.
00:06:18.880 Now all of the gas stations in our area
00:06:20.780 get their gas from Colonial Pipeline.
00:06:22.940 So we have been driving around
00:06:25.420 and seeing many different gas stations
00:06:28.580 with bags over the pumps
00:06:30.800 showing that they are out of gas
00:06:32.640 and it's very stressful
00:06:34.200 and it's just been kind of an odd week.
00:06:37.140 I got a call from my husband saying,
00:06:39.140 Abby, you need to check your gas tank
00:06:41.520 and make sure that it is at least close to full
00:06:44.220 because we don't know how long it's gonna take
00:06:46.740 for them to get everything back online.
00:06:48.700 And so I was able to go and get a full tank of gas,
00:06:51.480 so was he, so we were ahead of the curve a bit on things,
00:06:54.960 but it's been a bit stressful here
00:06:57.180 and I'm sure many of you are suffering in the same way.
00:07:00.600 As I've seen, Colonial Pipeline is actually back online,
00:07:03.080 which is amazing, but it's going to take a couple of days
00:07:05.540 for things to get back to normal.
00:07:07.220 So I'd love to know if you have seen gas shortages
00:07:09.700 in your area and what it's looked like for you.
00:07:12.880 Last but not least, I want to talk about
00:07:14.540 the situation in Israel.
00:07:15.880 So I'm not here to tell you everything you need to know
00:07:19.120 about the conflict.
00:07:20.640 I think it would be disrespectful of me in a scoop video
00:07:24.300 to try and tell you everything that you need to know
00:07:26.560 in two minutes.
00:07:27.700 This is something that would take a little while.
00:07:30.280 So I highly recommend doing some research,
00:07:33.160 listening to my brother Ben Shapiro's podcast.
00:07:36.160 He has some great information
00:07:37.360 on what's going on in Israel right now.
00:07:39.800 There's also some articles and news sites you can head to.
00:07:43.040 I just recently read an article by Barry Weiss
00:07:45.160 that was very informative and great,
00:07:47.240 and I think it's worth checking out.
00:07:49.180 But what I want to talk about today is just where I stand,
00:07:52.660 which is that I stand with Israel.
00:07:54.400 And I pray for Israel.
00:07:56.800 I pray for the newborns in bomb shelters
00:07:59.620 in hallways with their fathers.
00:08:01.620 I pray for the people who have to gather their children
00:08:04.980 in 30 to 90 seconds and get to a bomb shelter
00:08:08.380 before bombs hit where they live.
00:08:10.640 I pray for the civilians in Gaza
00:08:13.220 who are being used as human shields by Hamas
00:08:16.120 while they shoot their rockets out of civilian buildings.
00:08:19.180 And anyone who draws a moral equivalence
00:08:21.420 between Israel and Hamas needs to understand
00:08:24.500 that only one side is shooting as many rockets
00:08:28.700 as they can into civilian areas.
00:08:31.380 Israel has been shooting down those rockets
00:08:33.200 with the incredible iron dome system
00:08:35.380 in order to save their people.
00:08:37.960 And any time that Israel shoots a rocket into Gaza
00:08:42.040 to take down a military point,
00:08:44.600 they call Palestinian soldiers to warn them,
00:08:47.600 to tell them to get any civilians out,
00:08:50.240 and make sure that no one gets hurt unnecessarily,
00:08:53.580 removing the entire element of surprise
00:08:55.620 that is necessary in warfare.
00:08:57.960 I stand with Israel,
00:08:59.460 and I pray for my brothers and sisters who are suffering.
00:09:02.080 So that's it for today's video.
00:09:04.060 I'd love to know your thoughts in the comments.
00:09:05.780 Thank you so much for watching.

00:09:18.180 which is linked in the description box below.
