00:00:00.000 Who is Israel? 0.57
00:00:03.520 And I'm going to say point number three. 1.00
00:00:05.700 The Jews are not the true Israel. 1.00
00:00:09.780 Alright, first, we must understand that the covenant promise 1.00
00:00:15.060 was never ultimately about Abraham, Isaac, or Jacob.
00:00:25.700 Jacob's name was changed what? To Israel.
00:00:28.100 It was never about those three men.
00:00:33.300 These men were types.
00:00:35.340 They were shadows pointing forward to the ultimate seed to come through that promise.
00:00:42.880 That seed that was promised in Genesis 3.15. 0.88
00:00:46.860 The seed of the woman will crush the head of the serpent. 0.97
00:00:53.060 Preserved in Noah. 0.99
00:00:55.180 Clarified in Abraham. 0.81
00:00:57.220 Carried through the patriarchs.
00:01:05.080 That true seed is Jesus Christ.
00:01:07.320 And this should not shock any of us, because why?
00:01:09.540 Well, Jesus is said to be the true and better Adam, who is our better and righteous federal head.
00:01:14.840 He is said to be the true and better Moses, who saves us from real spiritual slavery. 0.62
00:01:19.760 He is said to be the true and better Joshua, who leads us into the real promised land.
00:01:24.700 He is said to be the true and better David, who is a better king over his people. 0.79
00:01:30.380 So, of course, he would be the true and better Jacob,
00:01:35.300 who wrestled with God not in the desert, but in Gethsemane.
00:01:42.820 Not struck in the hip, but crushed on the cross.
00:01:47.700 Jesus is Israel, the true Israel.
00:01:52.820 Now I'm going to show you a passage of scripture that absolutely confirms what I'm saying.
00:01:57.640 Hosea.
00:01:58.560 Turn there.
00:02:00.160 You can find it.
00:02:01.880 Hosea 11, verse 1.
00:02:04.620 Minor prophets.
00:02:06.340 Towards the back of the Old Testament.
00:02:11.220 Hosea 11, 1. 0.50
00:02:17.560 This is a prophecy. 0.86
00:02:18.680 it says when Israel was a child 0.57
00:02:22.980 I loved him 0.98
00:02:25.820 and out of Egypt I called my son 0.96
00:02:29.300 that's important because Matthew 2
00:02:34.700 verses 14 through 15 references Jesus as
00:02:38.780 fulfilling this prophecy it says
00:02:42.860 and he rose talking about
00:02:47.020 Joseph, and took the child and his mother by night and
00:02:50.900 departed to Egypt and remained there until the death
00:02:55.040 of Herod. This was to fulfill what 1.00
00:02:58.900 the Lord had spoken by the prophet, quote, out of Egypt
00:03:02.740 I called my son, end quote. Okay.
00:03:08.560 Jesus is
00:03:10.200 Israel. He is the true
00:03:14.700 Israel.
00:03:17.300 He is the ultimate substance of the covenant.
00:03:20.560 Everything from, as soon as God intervenes and says to Eve and makes the
00:03:27.140 protovangileum in Genesis 3.15 and promises a Savior to come, everything is
00:03:36.100 working to prepare us for and point us to that seed, Christ.
00:03:43.620 He is the ultimate fulfillment and substance of the entire covenantal promise system.
00:03:53.280 And through Christ, the covenant has expanded beyond national Israel
00:04:01.560 to everyone who has faith from every tribe, nation, and tongue.
00:04:10.020 So what was started as a seed of faith in a national group has bloomed into a harvest of faith in an international group.
00:04:24.100 This is again why Jesus says in the Great Commission,
00:04:27.180 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
00:04:32.440 teaching them to obey all that I have commanded.
00:04:34.000 the gospel was this kind of expansion from national to international it was i have just
00:04:49.320 redeemed humanity and i have just redeemed the world go get those nations they are mine
00:04:55.960 it's basically what's being said in the great commission
00:04:59.400 now the church does not replace israel you're going to get some person that says oh that's
00:05:09.900 replacement theology that the church replaces israel no the church is israel in its matured form
00:05:18.340 okay i would call it fulfillment theology
00:05:22.860 okay the church does not replace israel the church is israel in its matured form let me explain
00:05:31.120 the old testament promises to israel are not nullified they're not nullified they are fulfilled
00:05:38.560 in christ and his body the church so to be very clear be very very clear here when god was making
00:05:47.020 covenant promises
00:05:47.860 to Israel in the Old Testament
00:05:50.740 when God was making covenant promises
00:05:53.280 to Israel in the Old Testament
00:05:54.760 the recipients or beneficiaries
00:05:57.200 of those promises were not
00:05:58.900 everyone in that nation
00:06:00.280 they were only 0.98
00:06:06.820 those Jews within
00:06:08.820 that ethnic group
00:06:10.840 that had faith
00:06:12.760 so he's speaking to them
00:06:16.460 and there are people who are in the covenant
00:06:20.200 and then there are people who are of the covenant.
00:06:23.920 Same today, by the way.
00:06:26.020 I know a lot of people that are baptized
00:06:27.600 that probably aren't born again.
00:06:30.340 And when I talk about eternal salvation,
00:06:33.820 there are people in the covenant through baptism
00:06:37.380 and then there are people of the covenant
00:06:40.240 who have faith.
00:06:46.460 Those Christ-believing, faith-filled Jews of the Old Testament were the early church.
00:06:56.820 The church didn't begin at Pentecost.
00:07:01.540 The expansion into the Gentile world, yes.
00:07:07.040 But the early church, you can go back to Genesis, where I believe that Adam is the first member of the church. 0.90
00:07:14.300 You know why?
00:07:14.900 Because in Genesis chapter 4 is the first prayer ever recorded in Scripture.
00:07:20.380 And he is begging by faith, trusting in God for them to send that promise to serpent crusher.
00:07:28.980 You don't make prayers like that without faith.
00:07:33.240 And so, while we don't have absolute clarity, I believe the early church starts with Adam.
00:07:39.580 Do you not believe that Moses is part of the early church?
00:07:43.620 Certainly he is.
00:07:44.900 Do you expect to see him in glory? Certainly.
00:07:49.300 And every other Old Testament saint that you read of in Scripture.
00:07:55.700 They were the early church, the early body of Christ, the true Israel.
00:08:05.400 So to equate the modern geopolitical nation of Israel with the true Israel of God,
00:08:14.700 To confuse those two realities is to commit a serious theological error.
00:08:21.840 It shifts our eyes from the spiritual and the universal to the physical and the national.
00:08:30.460 It really does.
00:08:32.100 And what happens in America when Israel starts getting into war? 0.62
00:08:35.860 Everybody goes, let's watch over there. 0.93
00:08:40.520 Maybe Jesus is coming back on Friday.
00:08:43.700 Okay?
00:08:45.320 It shifts our eyes from the spiritual and the universal to the physical and to the national.
00:08:49.620 It's an excellent strategy of the enemy.
00:08:53.860 Let's all focus it there.
00:08:55.640 You know what? It's going to just get worse and worse.
00:08:57.200 Let's just wait for that.
00:08:59.920 In fact, if it gets worse fast, then maybe Jesus will come back soon.
00:09:04.380 We start hoping in failure.
00:09:05.960 it reduces the glorious christ-centered fulfillment of god's covenant promises 0.97
00:09:17.220 to an ethnic nationalism that bears no resemblance of the gospel that is saving
00:09:24.480 people all over the world it takes one people of god in christ and produces two peoples of god
00:09:33.980 ethnic Israel, and the church. 0.61
00:09:35.560 It really, truly creates polygamy as God has two brides, Israel and the church.
00:09:46.780 This is not how the scriptures defines his people.
00:09:52.000 Ephesians 2, 14 through 16 says,
00:09:55.700 For he himself is our peace, who has made us both, Jews and Gentiles, one.
00:10:03.160 and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility
00:10:07.220 that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two,
00:10:12.800 so making peace and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross.
00:10:20.740 I don't know how you arrive at two peoples of God from passages of scripture like this.
00:10:27.600 Jesus said in
00:10:31.080 John 10 16 and I have other
00:10:33.060 sheep that are not of 1.00
00:10:35.060 this fold I must bring them 1.00
00:10:36.900 also that they will
00:10:38.900 listen to my voice so
00:10:40.820 there will be one flock
00:10:42.980 one shepherd end quote
00:10:45.040 that one verse should just do it
00:10:50.660 to view faithless
00:10:56.780 Jesus hating ethnic Israel as God's chosen people
00:11:04.120 and the church as some kind of temporary parenthetical pause 0.83
00:11:11.100 of redeeming the Gentiles in separation from Israel
00:11:17.760 only so that Jesus can come back and restore the kingdom 0.90
00:11:21.900 and have two separate peoples in heaven and earth.
00:11:26.780 It is moving the eyes from faith to the flesh.
00:11:33.920 The true Israel is not a nation defined by borders, lineage, or ethnicity.
00:11:44.020 It is the body of Christ composed of all who believe, both Jew and Gentile.
00:11:50.880 it's why paul says in galatians 3 28 through 29 there is neither jew nor greek you've in fact
00:12:00.860 you've lost your identity you're in christ not that you're not american or not that you're not
00:12:08.620 japanese or whatever it may be but the primary identification that you have is not your skin
00:12:15.160 color or your country but it's christ everything else falls below that
00:12:21.440 there is neither jew nor greek for you are all one in christ jesus
00:12:29.120 and if you are christ then you are abraham's offspring heirs according to the promise
00:12:38.060 get your systematic helmet on and just let that all kind of soak in and make sense to you
