00:06:45.040 it manageable. I don't sit down and read a hundred pages of a book, but if I do 10 and I'm studying

00:06:50.080 and I'm looking for something, then what's cool is when I go to bed that night, my brain gets a

00:06:54.540 process all the things I learned. And then the next morning I wake up refreshed to go study again.

00:06:59.460 What happens is because I'm learning every day, I've created a habit of studying that my mind is

00:07:04.760 always on the lookout for new information. The second one is we have to come prepared. That means

00:07:10.440 that you have a place where you go study. When I come to learn from somebody, I don't just show up.

00:07:31.780 study, rewrite. This one changed my life. A long time ago, I was reading a book and the author

00:07:38.700 talked about how when he studies, he rewrites what he learned in his own words so that he can

00:07:44.120 internalize it. And that is pretty much what I've done with every one of my books. As I'm listening

00:07:48.900 or reading I'm rewriting it into my phone so if I go on my phone right now I will show it to you

00:14:39.540 degree, they say you're going to learn it, you're going to do it, and then you're going to teach it.

00:14:43.920 See, teaching is the mirror. When you actually study a book, not just to learn, not just to do,

00:14:50.720 but actually to get ready to present it to somebody else, you're going to study in a

00:14:54.820 completely different way. I remember reading this study by Yale and they asked a bunch of people

00:14:59.120 to explain zippers. But before they asked them, they were like, do you understand how zippers

00:15:02.540 work? They're like, yep. They're like, cool, explain it to me. And then they realized that

00:15:06.120 they didn't actually know how a zipper worked. So people can think they know something, but because

00:15:10.840 they can't explain it, they don't really know it, which means they can't teach it, which means it's

00:15:14.720 not integrated. So here's how we do the mirror test. First thing we got to do is just think of

00:15:18.580 somebody that you know, ideally that you're going to talk to, where they could find value in what

00:15:22.700 you just learned. Then next time you see them, just say, hey, can I teach you something? They're

00:15:26.180 like, yeah, for sure. And then walk them through it and be detailed. Try to break it down in a way

00:15:31.480 where it's like you learned it,

00:15:32.840 but now you're gonna break it down

00:17:18.260 mind. This last step is what turns it into actual mastery. Point number seven, until you can't get

00:17:24.100 it wrong most people practice until they get it right which is awesome they get it once and then

00:17:28.680 they move on but the pros they practice until they can't get it wrong they practice until that 360 on

00:17:53.040 levels of mastery. The first level is 10,000 hours. You may have heard this, Malcolm Gladwell

00:18:00.720 made this famous, where he talked about mastery requires 10,000 hours of doing stuff. When I

00:18:06.360 recently hired a coach to teach me how to wake surf, I brought in a guy named Austin Keene.

00:18:10.760 The guy is a stud. The first question I asked him was, how long have you been wake surfing for?

00:18:15.840 He's like, well, I actually started skimboarding when I was 10. Today, he's in his mid-30s. He's

00:18:21.180 got way more than 10,000 hours, but that's where it starts. That's level one. And we want to keep

00:18:27.000 going up with intensity. Then we have a thousand days of dedication. Think about this, a thousand

00:18:33.540 days. And if you run the math, this is 24,000 hours of focus. Then if we keep going up, we have

00:18:41.500 a hundred months of focus in studying and attention for mastery. That works out to about 73,000 hours

00:18:49.980 of focus. Then we have 10 years and that's over 80,000 hours of doing the thing. We all need to

00:18:58.940 start somewhere, which is level one, but level two, a thousand days, a hundred months, 10 years.

00:19:05.080 Most people forget to get great mastery at anything requires a decade. When I started my

00:19:11.960 YouTube channel, I wanted to get good. I didn't even think about great. I just thought, hey,
