00:00:00.520 Hey guys Dan Martell here and today I want to share with you guys something that's near
00:00:04.640 and dear to my heart. It's the idea of getting unstuck. You know recently I was sitting down
00:00:08.440 with a friend and you know his business is doing good. You know he's actually hasn't
00:00:12.680 worked a whole lot and the business continues to kind of go along and I was asking him like
00:00:17.180 hey what are your plans for the year? I mean we're almost halfway through the year and
00:00:20.760 you know he just kind of didn't really feel connected to the business anymore and he used
00:00:26.260 the word, it really threw me off.
00:00:27.400 He said, you know, I just feel comfortable.
00:00:29.820 And I was like, oh, I can get that.
00:00:31.460 I mean, sometimes when you actually do the things at work
00:00:34.140 and you get to a certain point,
00:00:35.480 it's hard to always keep yourself motivated.
00:00:38.320 And, you know, the more we talked about it,
00:00:40.020 I kind of sat down and started thinking through
00:00:42.360 some areas that he could look at to kind of get
00:00:44.340 re-energized and re-excited about his business.
00:00:46.700 And that's what I want to share with you guys today.
00:00:48.040 It's kind of three strategies that I shared with him
00:00:50.620 to really get reconnected with purpose
00:00:54.480 and why he started the business
00:00:55.700 and where he wanted to go and just who he was in his life
00:00:58.520 because he wasn't even happy kind of with the approach
00:01:01.340 he was having personally.
00:01:02.760 So the first thing I want to share with you guys
00:01:04.420 is something that I think is pretty profound.
00:01:06.840 It's just asking yourself, and I do this in interviews
00:01:08.820 when I hire people, is what does your life look like
00:01:12.300 in five years?
00:01:12.980 If you had to sit down and describe as you wake up
00:01:15.900 in the morning kind of the place you're living,
00:01:20.200 the things you're going to do in the morning,
00:01:22.140 your routine, the people in your life,
00:01:24.280 the relationship you have, the quality of those relationships,
00:01:27.280 the kind of work you're doing, and just kind of talk me through
00:01:30.280 in a five-year scenario what your day looks like.
00:01:33.280 I think it's just such a powerful visualization, you know.
00:01:36.280 There's this great quote that says,
00:01:38.280 begin with the end in mind, and I feel like that's the first step,
00:01:41.280 because if you don't know where you're going,
00:01:43.280 then any path will do, and I think it's really important
00:01:46.280 to just get crystal clear on, you know what, in five years,
00:01:49.280 what would I hope my life looks like and my day looks like,
00:01:52.280 and start talking about it.
00:01:54.620 Write it down, draw a picture,
00:01:56.480 even kind of try to visualize who are the people
00:01:59.040 from a relationship point of view,
00:02:01.780 your health and even your business,
00:02:03.580 kind of what have you accomplished.
00:02:05.140 That was the first thing I asked him is,
00:02:06.680 if you had to wake up and describe in five years that day,
00:02:10.060 what would it look like?
00:02:10.960 And he thought it was really interesting,
00:02:12.560 so we kind of wrote that down.
00:02:14.340 The second thing is start thinking about the people.
00:02:18.380 If you know where you want to go,
00:02:19.560 think about the people that are going to support you
00:02:21.760 in making those decisions, you know?
00:02:23.720 A lot of people are the byproduct
00:02:25.420 of the people they spend time with, you know?
00:02:27.000 You're the average of the five people
00:02:28.160 you spend the most time with,
00:02:29.040 and I just think any time I've started a new project,
00:02:31.640 especially a company in an industry
00:02:33.580 that I've never done before,
00:02:34.960 I make a list of 100 people,
00:02:36.400 I call it my dream 100 list,
00:02:37.560 and these are 100 people,
00:02:38.940 both from investment opportunities,
00:02:41.000 so people that might invest in my company,
00:02:42.440 people that have done, had success in that thing,
00:02:46.180 people that just inspire me,
00:02:47.960 that are gonna teach me new ideas,
00:02:49.380 so maybe advisors, and then also,
00:02:50.800 kind of some potential friends or peer group of people
00:02:53.920 that I want to spend time with.
00:02:55.220 And I don't think you need 100,
00:02:56.760 but I mean, if you just think of that idea of five,
00:02:58.560 like if you're trying to get healthy,
00:03:00.400 who's the healthiest person you know?
00:03:02.300 If you're trying to get better in business,
00:03:04.700 who's one of the strongest entrepreneurs you know
00:03:06.720 in your life, and just ask them to do coffee once a week.
00:03:09.400 And yeah, there's a bunch of structures
00:03:11.660 and you can join mentorship groups or hire a business coach
00:03:14.960 or whatever it is, and those are all great things.
00:03:16.900 But I really think that it can be as simple
00:03:18.600 as just asking yourself, who are people that are going to
00:03:21.060 support me in this decision?
00:03:23.260 You know, so that was the second thing.
00:03:26.060 The third is really doing an action every day.
00:03:30.160 You know, some people call it the slight edge,
00:03:32.200 some people call it the compound effect.
00:03:34.700 I learned this when I was 21 and I totally dismissed it
00:03:38.900 from a family friend named Wayne.
00:03:40.700 You know, he sat me down one day and I asked him,
00:03:42.840 I was like, you know, he's an entrepreneur
00:03:44.200 and a business person, I said, if there was one thing
00:03:45.860 you could suggest to an up-and-coming entrepreneur
00:03:48.340 At this point, I had failed twice already.
00:03:50.740 What would you suggest?
00:03:51.880 And he thought about it for a second,
00:03:54.200 and after a few minutes, he just goes, habits.
00:03:57.600 And I was expecting something deep and profound,
00:03:59.840 like something, I don't know, like some magic formula,
00:04:03.240 and he just goes, habits.
00:04:04.440 And I was like, okay, could you explain it?
00:04:06.680 And he did, and unfortunately, it took me
00:04:08.740 like another five years to finally figure out
00:04:10.600 what he was saying, but what I suggest you do
00:04:12.880 is think about the thing you can do every day
00:04:15.940 that seems mundane, that will, over time,
00:04:19.600 allow you to accomplish a lot.
00:04:21.260 I think that a lot of people,
00:04:22.480 they're always looking for the next big thing,
00:04:24.180 the big idea that's just gonna make their business work,
00:04:28.280 or the next fitness fad, or cleanse,
00:04:31.760 or whatever it is, to get their health in order.
00:04:33.300 And I really think it could be as simple as
00:04:35.160 choosing one action for 90 days in each area.
00:04:38.660 So maybe for your health, something as simple,
00:04:40.620 I'm gonna suggest this,
00:04:41.760 drinking 10 glasses of water a day,
00:04:43.900 or maybe, you know, like a gallon of water a day.
00:04:46.040 And I'm not even talking about food or anything else,
00:04:47.920 just choosing that one action
00:04:49.820 that will start to inspire you
00:04:53.100 in other parts of your life, right?
00:04:55.240 So like choosing to drink water
00:04:56.940 or maybe getting up every morning
00:04:58.740 and going for a 20-minute walk.
00:05:00.000 That's it, just a 20-minute walk.
00:05:01.340 I'm not talking about going to CrossFit
00:05:02.840 or running a marathon in six months.
00:05:05.340 I'm just saying something simple.
00:05:07.040 And in business, the same thing.
00:05:08.640 Think about it.
00:05:09.500 If you realize you don't have a good marketing strategy,
00:05:11.960 Maybe it's every day for the next 90 days
00:05:14.420 I'm gonna write a blog post.
00:05:15.440 And if that sounds daunting, maybe it's once a week
00:05:18.420 and you just work on it every morning for 10 minutes.
00:05:21.060 But whatever it is, it's choosing something
00:05:22.860 that you can do in action every day for 90 days
00:05:25.540 that is in line with your five-year plan.
00:05:29.040 That, for me, is a really simple tactical strategy
00:05:32.900 that'll help anybody get unstuck.
00:05:34.500 When they're feeling like things are comfortable,
00:05:36.560 they can't find their mojo again,
00:05:38.600 beginning with the end in mind,
00:05:40.060 and start thinking about the people that'll support them,
00:05:42.360 and then also put a very simple action plan
00:05:44.620 so you don't feel overwhelmed,
00:05:45.720 something that you can do for 90 days,
00:05:47.640 and even if you miss a day after 10 days,
00:05:49.600 start again on day 11 and 12,
00:05:51.180 and just keep it up for nine days,
00:05:52.440 and just try to get as many days doing those simple action,
00:05:55.440 as little as maybe an hour total in your whole day
00:05:57.660 doing those things.
00:05:59.060 That's my ideas for you.
00:05:59.940 I wanna challenge you guys to live a bigger life and business,
00:06:03.440 and I would love to hear from you below.
00:06:04.820 If there's something in those areas that you do every day
00:06:07.340 that you feel is just like the thing that works for you,
00:06:09.700 I would love to hear from you in the comments below.
00:06:11.460 Leave a comment below, I'm gonna reply to every one of them.
