00:00:00.560 Is ADHD a superpower?
00:00:02.800 I'm here to say that I believe that it is.
00:00:05.400 You know, I grew up and was diagnosed at 11 years old with ADD, which I don't even know
00:00:09.720 how you can do with a child that's just hyperactive, because I have two little boys and that just
00:00:13.720 seems like every kid today.
00:00:15.760 But you know, there's three things that I've always felt that really gave me the edge.
00:00:19.880 You know, and it was challenging.
00:00:20.880 I think a lot of people, if you deal with attention deficit disorder, for me hyperactive
00:00:24.560 disorder. It's trying to find the time to focus or even the ability to focus and really retain
00:00:30.680 the content. So luckily, I was introduced to some really amazing books. One was called Driven
00:00:35.640 from Distraction, which really talked about not only the amazing leaders that we have in our world
00:00:40.600 today that are affected and have ADD or ADHD, but also the way they've dealt with it. So the book
00:00:46.660 gave me a framework to think about it. So I want to teach you that. But some of the benefits that
00:00:51.460 I believe I've had is, you know, I have the power to hyper focus. You know, some people find it
00:00:56.220 weird, but I do my best work in airports, coffee shops, where there's a lot of noise and distraction.
00:01:02.300 I don't know if you do this, but I can't even work without having background music on. And sometimes
00:01:06.940 that's TV. You know, for a long time when we had this thing in Canada called Much Music, I used to
00:01:11.440 play music videos all the time. And not that I was listening to the songs, I was just doing it as
00:01:16.660 So as kind of like this background white noise, anyways, hyper-focus, when I bite into something,
00:01:23.400 when I decide to do something, I go super deep, super aggressive.
00:01:27.420 It's amazing.
00:01:28.440 The other benefit is creativity.
00:01:29.940 I feel that when I'm with the team and we're brainstorming different product ideas, I just
00:01:34.780 feel like my brain's able to kind of look at different patterns and connect things that
00:01:38.360 other people don't always see.
00:01:40.020 And I always just thought it was maybe just who I was, but I felt like as I met more creative
00:01:44.400 people, more people that on the surface you think they have ADD. They have this same ability, this
00:01:50.660 belief that, you know, that whatever the problem or the challenge is, they're going to find a
00:01:54.500 solution. And that's why I believe that it is my superpower and that a lot of people might be on
00:02:00.340 medication. I believe you need treatment, you know, but I think there's a huge disconnect between
00:02:05.080 medication and treatment. I'm not an expert. I'm not a doctor, but read the books, educate yourself.
00:02:12.080 You know, I do really simple things like meditate in the morning to reset my mind,
00:02:16.960 work out in the morning to kind of reset my body and my energy levels.
00:02:20.300 And I also do a thing called energy management, which I did a video on recently,
00:02:24.040 which talks about how I structure the tasks and the activities I do in my day
00:02:27.960 to really get the most out of it, knowing that this is the way my brain's wired.
00:02:31.980 I've never looked at it as a disability.
00:02:34.420 If anything, as I mentioned, I think it's a superpower.
00:02:38.100 It's an enhancement.
00:02:39.060 It's who I am.
00:02:40.260 And I want everybody to live who they are.
00:02:42.540 So I wanted to share with that in case you were struggling with this
00:02:44.960 and to give you some thoughts and some strategies to kind of work through it
00:02:48.620 and really get the most out of life.
00:02:50.920 Anyways, I hope you found this useful.
00:02:53.440 I'd love to hear from you in the comments below.
00:02:55.120 What was the takeaway?
00:02:56.480 What was the thing that I said might have resonated with you?
00:02:58.560 And I look forward to seeing you next Monday as I continue these weekly videos.
00:03:02.560 Thanks, Alex Icon, for the challenge.
00:03:04.460 I told him he asked me to do 30 days.
00:03:05.980 I said there's no way I could do 30.
00:03:07.520 But I'm going to continue doing these for the next three months every Monday
00:03:11.240 I'm going to release one so hopefully you subscribe to my Facebook my YouTube and I'll see you next Monday
