00:00:00.000 And not one single comment that I could find was actually defending Anne Hathaway.
00:00:10.860 Hi and welcome to Flossom Talk. I'm Sjastri Flore, journalist, Hollywood truth teller,
00:00:15.460 and your voice of reason in a town built on delusion.
00:00:20.320 Okay, so Anne Hathaway came out and said that she don't trust people who are rude,
00:00:28.460 especially to people who are just trying to do their job if you watched my interview with
00:00:35.180 emmanuel miller on friday the hairstylist who's worked with basically every big movie star out
00:00:42.060 there you might find that statement for man hathaway to be a bit ironic but before we talk
00:00:49.260 more about that i wanted to send a big thank you to everyone who went on to amazon and watched my
00:00:56.320 documentary Social Media Killed the Movie Star. Now I'm thinking I could almost have named it
00:01:02.820 Social Media Revealed the Movie Star because I think with social media it has become inevitable
00:01:10.240 at one point that you will be exposed and people will find out who you really are. And talking
00:01:17.860 about my interview with Emanuel Miller on Friday, something surprised me a little bit after I had
00:01:24.680 published it because I started reading the comments and not one single comment that I could
00:01:29.980 find was actually defending Anne Hathaway and her behavior. And that's really worth looking into
00:01:36.560 because it didn't used to be like that. Whenever I published an interview with a celebrity and they
00:01:42.600 were not on their best behavior, almost every single time people blamed it on me. And I did
00:01:49.360 receive a phone call from Emmanuel on Friday and he was so emotional from all the support that he
00:01:56.220 had received from all of you guys. So I just wanted to share with you that he has been reading the
00:02:02.280 comments and that he is really touched by all of it. And hopefully when someone like Emmanuel comes
00:02:07.840 out and tells the truth what it's really like to work with some of these biggest egos in Hollywood
00:02:14.640 maybe other people will come forward and talk about it too
00:02:18.500 and maybe one day people would start behaving kinder to everyone around them
00:02:24.740 anyways after this interview Marnie sent me
00:02:27.980 thank you so much Marnie
00:02:29.240 she sent me an interview that Anne Hathaway did just a few days ago with Fandango
00:02:35.280 so right now she has a new movie out
00:02:38.320 this is number five this year
00:02:40.160 and she's been going around doing interviews with her co-stars Dakota Johnson
00:02:44.580 and Josh Hartnett for this film.
00:02:47.620 That is another adaptation of a Colin Hoover book, by the way.
00:02:51.100 I've been watching a few of these interviews, but I did miss this one.
00:02:54.060 And I have to say, I really like Dakota Johnson.
00:02:57.420 I feel like she is so real.
00:02:59.360 I mean, she comes from a family of actors.
00:03:01.320 She grew up basically in Hollywood.
00:03:03.880 And I've interviewed both of her dads, her real dad and her stepdad,
00:03:08.000 Dawn Johnson and Antonia Banderas as well.
00:03:10.860 And they're both so humble and so nice.
00:03:14.000 and they just come across as really really decent people and maybe that's also why Dakota Johnson is
00:03:19.580 the way she is she's just like there's no bs with her she just says it like it is and then sometimes
00:03:24.880 you can say really strange things but it just comes from an authentic place and I really like
00:03:30.020 that anyway so in this interview Anne Hathaway is asked to finish a sentence from this reporter
00:03:37.920 And she says, please finish this sentence.
00:03:40.600 And it starts off with, never trust someone who dot, dot, dot.
00:03:46.420 And this is the way Anne Hathaway reacts.
00:03:50.160 Fill in the blank for me. 0.88
00:03:51.220 Never trust someone who is rude.
00:03:54.580 Totally.
00:03:56.020 Because there's one thing when there's like weird energy and people are like being protective and things like that.
00:04:01.500 But when somebody is just, like, trying to do their job and someone gives them attitude or, like, doesn't appreciate, like, how hard it is to do something, like, serve a table for eight to ten hours, like, that's just, like, get it, get it.
00:04:15.260 Yeah.
00:04:16.000 100%. 0.74
00:04:16.440 Isn't that just fascinating how she says that she cannot trust people who are rude and especially rude to people who are just trying to do their job?
00:04:29.620 This is exactly what Emmanuel was talking about on Friday and how he described working with Anne,
00:04:39.440 how she was rude and how she made sure that he felt like he was her servant from the first
00:04:47.200 moment they met. And in this interview, Anne says she doesn't trust people who are rude,
00:04:52.520 especially to people like working in a restaurant because they work so many hours a day. And I'm
00:04:58.620 just like, are we supposed to believe that this is who she really thinks that she is? I'm wondering
00:05:03.820 sometimes how delusional some of these celebrities are. Do they actually believe that they're kind
00:05:09.500 and that people around them experience them as polite and nice? I just feel like a lot of these
00:05:15.180 big movie stars, they've just lost touch with reality so much that they live in this bubble
00:05:21.740 and this reality. So they just lost the track of what real human interaction is supposed to look
00:05:27.940 like. But anyways, just another example here of how Anne Hathaway used to treat people that were 0.99
00:05:35.280 just trying to do their job, like this Filipino journalist. This happened also during her Les 1.00
00:05:43.260 Miserables press tour. Thank you, Troy, for sending me this, by the way. And you might remember that
00:05:49.500 my interview was also for the movie Les Miserables, where she was playing Fantine. It was a musical.
00:05:56.100 she had to lose a lot of weight for the role and she also had to cut her hair off which was what
00:06:02.060 everyone was talking about and that of course played a part in why she won an Oscar that year
00:06:08.420 I felt like her role was so tiny in that movie she was like on screen for 10 minutes but anyways 0.89
00:06:13.880 it was all about oh look how skinny she looks and on she cut her real hair off what a sacrifice
00:06:19.720 and Anne went on this press tour and said that you know it's not a sacrifice for me to cut my 0.71
00:06:24.480 hair short like that but anyways this poor Filipino journalist was just trying to do his job
00:06:31.100 asking Anne Hathaway about her character and I thought this question was really interesting
00:06:37.980 the audio isn't that great in this interview but what he basically tried to ask her was
00:06:42.920 how can someone like you coming from so much privilege fame and being so rich manage to get
00:06:49.940 into the mindset of someone like Fantine
00:06:53.980 who's so poor and who's so broken.
00:06:57.380 And Anne Hathaway responded like this.
00:07:01.300 Now, Anne, for somebody who perceived
00:07:04.820 to live a life of luxury and privilege,
00:07:07.700 how were you able to identify with Fantine?
00:07:12.700 Have you ever experienced to be hungry, to be poor,
00:07:15.120 and you know, just like the character?
00:07:16.820 That's a very personal question.
00:07:18.220 Yeah, that was too personal for her to answer how she managed to get into the mindset of this
00:07:25.580 character. How is that too personal for anyone to answer? Did she get offended because he called her
00:07:32.200 privileged? Probably yes. And then she wanted to punish him for asking her that. So she just said
00:07:39.800 that's too personal for me to answer. And then in the beginning of this interview, poor guy,
00:07:44.760 He also asked her about her weight loss, which is a big no-no in Anne Hathaway's world.
00:07:52.180 Don't ever ask her about losing or gaining weight, which this guy obviously didn't know.
00:07:58.360 So he asked her about the weight loss of Fantine, and this is how that went.
00:08:03.260 Anyway, first off, Anne, you lose the 25 pounds for Fantine.
00:08:08.660 How did you do it, and how did you gain it back?
00:08:11.120 um i'd rather not talk about the weight loss please
00:08:15.520 okay yeah she doesn't want to talk about that either so she doesn't want to talk about her
00:08:21.760 physical transformation to get into this part and she doesn't want to talk about her process
00:08:27.600 of the mental process of getting into this part how are you supposed to do your job as a journalist
00:08:32.820 then i mean these are very relevant questions to ask someone and i wonder if ann would have
00:08:39.580 reacted the same way if it was a seasoned American journalist from Extra or E! News or whatever
00:08:47.840 sitting there asking her similar questions. Would she just dismiss that person the way she did with
00:08:55.500 this guy from the Philippines? I don't think so. That weight loss was not a long-term good thing
00:09:03.540 for my health and it took a really long time to come back from it. In order to do the transformation
00:09:09.460 I'd lost to Fantine to play Fantine I'd lost a lot of weight in a very small amount in about two
00:09:17.420 weeks so I lost an unhealthy amount of weight in in a very short amount of time so the fact that
00:09:23.720 Anne in this interview with Fandango last week said that she doesn't trust people who are rude
00:09:28.680 especially to someone who's just trying to do their job is rather fascinating and I think
00:09:35.020 especially if you mention people working in a restaurant that just tells me that Anne probably
00:09:41.020 is rude to them and also the fact that she mentions that specifically means that she believes
00:09:47.180 that they are below her so you shouldn't be rude to them because she sees them as below her and
00:09:54.180 especially since Emmanuel said that from day one she expected him to be her servant basically that's
00:10:01.640 the way she treated him and i just think that says a lot i just think you shouldn't be rude to anyone
00:10:07.020 but anyways let's get back to this interview from fandango she added something that i also found
00:10:13.080 pretty interesting in regards to what uh emmanuel miller said about anne and about eight minutes in
00:10:21.800 in this interview she says this also never trust anyone who talks someone yeah because you know
00:10:28.900 they're gonna do it 100 about you too i went when i hear somebody talking someone i just like i clam
00:10:34.940 up you know like i find it like i almost find it physically impossible to talk because i don't 0.99
00:10:38.800 trust them on any level it's just so uncomfortable yeah she doesn't trust people who talk shit 0.59
00:10:43.760 about other people if you watched my interview with emmanuel that's exactly how he described 0.84
00:10:50.560 and he said that ann went around on this movie set and told people that he is unprofessional
00:10:58.660 because he had promised Tom Hanks to go and do his hair on another movie
00:11:04.380 and he'd ask for permission to do that
00:11:07.920 and then Anne Hathaway didn't think that he should get permission to do that
00:11:11.820 so she told everyone that he was unprofessional.
00:11:14.860 She never said it to his face which is something that he pointed out 0.99
00:11:18.800 and now Anne is saying that she doesn't trust people who talk shit about other people 0.99
00:11:23.700 because then they might talk shit about you. 0.99
00:11:25.880 Emmanuel is not the only person who actually told me about Anne's behavior. 0.99
00:11:30.580 I also had a conversation with a reporter from the LA Times
00:11:34.740 just after I published my situation with Anne Hathaway in 2024.
00:11:40.260 He came over to me at an event, at an industry event,
00:11:43.840 and he was like, I saw what you said about Anne.
00:11:46.720 And I have to say, I've interviewed so many big stars
00:11:52.240 and the only person I ever had an issue with is Anne Hathaway and coming from someone like him
00:11:59.700 I was like wow that says a lot this guy is so nice he is the most likable guy out there he knows so
00:12:10.580 much about movies he is such a movie nerd and he's so disarming as a person and the fact that he
00:12:18.540 told me that I was like okay it's not only me because sometimes when you're in a situation
00:12:24.700 when people disrespect you you feel that it's something about you and that you should have
00:12:29.740 done something differently so when someone else comes out and tells you you know I had the same
00:12:34.200 experience that makes you feel like okay maybe it wasn't me maybe it was actually the other person
00:12:41.020 I actually interviewed Anne three times after my first interview with her.
00:12:47.720 And every time after that horrible interview experience I had, she was paired with a guy.
00:12:55.280 So in one interview, she was paired up with Matthew McConaughey.
00:12:58.800 And in another one, she was paired up with Robert De Niro.
00:13:02.140 And in another one, she was paired up with Andy Garcia.
00:13:06.660 All of these men are really nice.
00:13:08.520 and I'm wondering since a few people had bad experiences with her during Les Miserables
00:13:15.540 the studios were like okay we need to put Anne next to someone else so that there is a buffer 0.96
00:13:21.860 there. I know that they do that a lot in the industry and sometimes they do it to avoid too
00:13:27.280 many personal questions to one of the celebrities and also people behave a little bit better when
00:13:34.620 they're sitting next to another person because they do respect the person sitting next to them
00:13:39.440 most of the time at least. Although some don't respect the journalists there to ask questions
00:13:45.020 at least they're trying to be on their best behavior for their co-star. The latest interviews
00:13:50.720 I've seen with Anne she's been really lovely to everyone. So could it be that Anne has changed?
00:13:59.000 is she different now than what she was some years ago maybe she has or maybe she's just
00:14:05.120 hiding it better I remember when I published my interview with Anne Hathaway on YouTube when it
00:14:12.620 happened when Les Miserables was coming out and I got a phone call from the distributor in Norway
00:14:19.520 and he said to me he said you know this is your choice but if I were you I would take that down
00:14:27.800 because it might get some backlash and you're the person who's going to get punished for that.
00:14:33.520 Her publicist might never allow you to interview her again or the studio might blacklist you as
00:14:41.020 well. So if you want to continue doing these type of interviews you should take that down. I also
00:14:46.860 have to say that 10 years ago, even 15 years ago, people behaved very differently. If you reveal
00:14:55.520 something about a celebrity, that a lot of the times they would come out and defend them. As I
00:15:02.260 said in the beginning of this episode, I was surprised that I saw actually no one coming out
00:15:07.580 trying to defend Anne Hathaway. And I think that's pretty remarkable. I think it says a lot about how
00:15:14.120 our relationship to celebrities has changed. I remember when I started doing these type of
00:15:19.160 interviews in 2008, I had worked as a journalist for a while before that, but that was the first
00:15:25.360 time I sat down and like face to face with a celebrity. I'd never done it before and of course
00:15:32.800 I was really starstruck and I was really nervous and I was really really grateful for these kind
00:15:38.900 of opportunities. And I remember thinking a lot of the times that I was surprised of how nice some
00:15:45.040 of these people were because I wasn't expecting it. I remember doing these press junkets you know
00:15:51.080 you go in and out of hotel rooms and then you meet other journalists who's waiting in line to
00:15:55.560 interview the next person and you had conversations and we were like oh he was really nice he was
00:16:01.140 really nice actually like that was something that was unexpected I think some of these big stars
00:16:06.920 have almost built a brand about being difficult like they did in the music world whenever a rock
00:16:12.840 star was trashing the hotel room it was like oh but they're rock stars they can trash hotel rooms
00:16:18.600 Although I do have to say that I believe a lot of men has gotten away with a lot more 0.99
00:16:23.880 than women have. 0.86
00:16:25.760 If you think about the behavior of some of these movie stars like Russell Crowe, who 0.98
00:16:32.020 also Emmanuel Miller mentioned how he had like basically hit him in the face when he
00:16:38.120 was trying to fix his hair.
00:16:39.580 There's also that horrific audio file from Christian Bale yelling and screaming on the
00:16:45.060 set.
00:16:45.460 and of course you have people like Shia LaBeouf and Joaquin Phoenix. I remember when I was
00:16:52.100 interviewing Joaquin Phoenix for a movie it was a round table I think we were four journalists
00:16:56.820 and he was there with the director of the movie now I don't remember the movie and Joaquin entered
00:17:02.860 the room and he walked over and he sat on this little shelf near the window and he was just
00:17:08.960 looking out the window and we were like aren't we supposed to interview you? Then we kept asking
00:17:15.180 him questions and he just dismissed the questions and then someone asked him I didn't dare to ask
00:17:21.560 him that but someone asked him why are you not answering questions and he was just like because
00:17:27.360 I don't feel like it and everyone was like then what are we doing here we are all invited here
00:17:33.120 we took a day off to travel here to this hotel to spend time with you to help promote your movie
00:17:40.140 and then you just don't feel like answering questions after that day we all actually
00:17:46.920 received an apology from the studio I've never experienced that before they were actually
00:17:52.000 apologizing for his behavior of course for me I couldn't write the story I was supposed to do
00:17:57.520 for this newspaper I worked for at the time and all the other people who were involved in that
00:18:01.760 press day it was just everyone wasted their time because one person didn't feel like doing his job
00:18:07.240 that day. So yeah, I bet there are so many stories like that out there, but the journalists who are
00:18:13.200 still working, they are never ever going to tell you the real truth because they know as soon as
00:18:19.640 they do, they're out. So if you're making a living out of helping this illusion stay alive of who
00:18:27.000 these people really are, you don't want to jeopardize that. You don't want to jeopardize
00:18:32.220 that just to tell the truth. But I think what's happening right now is that the studios, the
00:18:38.240 publicists and the celebrities themselves are underestimating the audience. They're underestimating
00:18:43.960 the public because the public has a very different relationship to celebrities these days. We see
00:18:50.480 them on social media. They're sharing so much personal stuff there. They are creating this
00:18:56.620 illusion and this image of themselves talking about gratitude, talking about kindness. And when
00:19:03.180 their real behavior is contradicting that, people are like, I'm not buying this. I don't like you
00:19:09.720 anymore. So when I decided to release my interview with Anna Hathaway 10 years later, 10 years since
00:19:16.480 I've distributed in Norway, told me to take it down, I was expecting people to attack me. And
00:19:22.020 some people actually did and they said oh it's you again you're the one behind that Blake Lively
00:19:28.000 interview the congrats on your little bump interview and now you're doing the same with
00:19:33.340 Anne Hathaway you just want the attention on you and that's why you're doing this and I took
00:19:39.300 responsibility for trying to think outside the box to make the interview more interesting and it
00:19:44.760 didn't work then as you might know Anne Hathaway's publicist reached out to me with a message from
00:19:51.200 Anne. And Anne said in that message that she wanted to apologize. I promised her not to say
00:19:58.400 exactly what she wrote, so I won't do that. But she apologized for her behavior and she also said
00:20:06.200 that, you know, I have a lot of movies coming out this following year, so I would love for you to
00:20:12.020 come and interview me. Now that's five movies ago and I haven't heard from her. And that is why
00:20:18.060 I believe her apology wasn't genuine. I don't think that she actually reached out to me and
00:20:25.540 said she was sorry because she was actually sorry. I believe she did it because she had five movies
00:20:31.960 coming out and she didn't want to end up in a Blake Lively situation. I wanted to give her
00:20:38.220 the benefit of the doubt for a while but now I'm like okay Anne Hathaway is not gonna keep her side
00:20:44.200 of the promise and it reminded me also what Emmanuel said in my interview with him on Friday
00:20:49.060 where he said that after he had spent five months with her every day was awful when he came into the
00:20:56.060 trailer to pick up his stuff she had left him a gift and he decided just to return the gift to her
00:21:02.640 with a note saying I'm sorry I can't accept this gift because I really did not enjoy working with
00:21:09.400 you and as he said she never reached out and asked him why or if there was something she did so she
00:21:15.200 could actually learn something from that experience and after that he never heard from her so for both
00:21:21.380 me and emmanuel and tried to make things right in her way i believe i'm not sure if she realizes that
00:21:29.220 she was being really disrespectful to emmanuel and that she was being really rude to me i think it's
00:21:34.960 such a simple explanation for all of this, which is that some celebrities believe that they're
00:21:40.280 better than anyone else because they're famous. They just forget how to be nice because everyone
00:21:46.420 around them is just telling them constantly how amazing they are. I think the biggest mistake
00:21:53.280 any big celebrity can do today is not being authentic because it's only a matter of time
00:22:01.320 until you will be exposed and everyone has a camera today and people are willing and able
00:22:08.000 to expose you if they believe that you are a fake so the big question is are people still
