00:00:12.000My riding of Carleton alone is home to some of Eastern Ontario's biggest construction companies and job creators,
00:00:18.000including Tomlinson Group of Companies, Marathon Drilling, Gary Krupp & Cartage, Osgoode Sand & Gravel, and Thomas Cavanaugh Construction Ltd.
00:00:27.000The new Construction Act will soon bring into force a new regime that will ensure Ontario
00:00:32.360construction workers get paid on time for the work they do and make the dispute resolution
00:00:37.080process faster and simpler. Through you, Mr. Speaker, would the Attorney General please
00:00:42.120tell us how our government is bringing into effect this new era of transparency, stability,
00:00:47.320and certainty for our construction sector?

00:00:59.020Mr. Speaker, our government will always stand up for those working in the construction industry,
00:01:05.260and we are working very hard to bring into effect the new prompt payment and adjudication framework
00:01:10.660that will strengthen this sector and lead the country in how we support the construction industry.
00:01:16.320Prompt payment will provide contractors and subcontractors clarity and certainty around
00:01:21.340when to expect payment something fundamental that many and other sectors
00:01:25.720may take for granted our new adjudication process will speed up
00:01:29.320dispute resolution and save workers time and money will also prevent unnecessary
00:01:34.420delays on construction projects our government is working hard to bring
00:01:38.380these new tools into force on October 1st we look forward to delivering this
00:01:42.880important new framework to the assistant to this essential part of this
00:01:46.220province's economy thank you supplementary question thank you mr speaker and through you
00:01:53.180i'd like to thank the attorney general for standing up for this important part of our economy
00:01:57.260and making sure that the construction industry in carlton and across ontario can have the certainty
00:02:02.780and stability found in other industries mr speaker my constituents in carlton know that
00:02:08.700this government was elected with a promise to get things done and to make it easier and cheaper for
00:02:13.980businesses to thrive in today's marketplace and they expect this government to deliver on its
00:02:19.340commitments mr speaker through you could the attorney general please tell us more about how
00:02:24.780ontario is implementing this new regulatory framework to ensure that ontario's construction
00:02:30.300industry can benefit from the opportunities and protections it brings the attorney general
00:02:38.780thank you mr speaker the women and men working in ontario's construction sector have made it clear
00:02:43.580that they want this new regime in place on time and that means october 1st of this year a key
00:02:49.580part of this promise is the designation of the authorized nominating authority the ana the arms
00:02:55.260length entity that will oversee the new adjudication framework last week our of our government issued
00:03:01.020the call for applications for the nominating authority and we look forward to seeing a wide
00:03:05.260range of applications for this key component of the new construction act regime our government
00:03:11.340has developed a fair and transparent selection process that will evaluate the quality experience
00:03:16.860and knowledge of entities that apply for the nominating authority designation and will
00:03:21.420ensure that we designate only the most qualified for this critical job construction workers and
00:03:27.100the construction industry are counting on us response take that responsibility seriously
