00:02:11.680 It has now been reported has funneled cash to a Chinese foreign agent unless she was doing this for campaign ads.

00:02:24.020 During her bid for reelection in 2022, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez paid for advertising in a newspaper registered as a Chinese foreign agent.
00:02:31.800 It's been revealed that during her bid for reelection, she was doing this.
00:02:34.460 The Department of Justice deemed Tsingtao newspapers, the U.S. subsidiary of Hong Kong-based Tsingtao News Corporation,
00:02:41.920 to be pro-Beijing and forced it to register as a foreign agent in August of 2021.
00:02:47.960 AOC's campaign shelled out thousands of dollars for advertisements in the Chinese-language newspaper,
00:02:52.920 which publishes in New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
00:02:55.740 The decision to work with Tsingtao was made long after the DOJ had classified it as a foreign agent.
00:03:02.020 In fact, fellow members of the Democrat House caucus, Kevin Mullen and Grace Mung,
00:03:08.780 also paid thousands and thousands of dollars to display ads in the paper,
00:03:13.080 as did another conservative member of the House Republican caucus, Rep. Nicole Malatakis.
00:03:20.200 This is not the first time that AOC was featured in the newspaper.
00:03:23.560 Prior to its designation as a foreign agent, the paper covered a 2020 foreign language media roundtable
00:03:28.140 in which she had taken part in.

00:03:33.220 So you're applauding a newspaper of an authoritarian regime that attacked peaceful protesters in Hong Kong.

00:03:43.180 Tsingtao, which operates the oldest Chinese-language newspaper in Hong Kong,
00:03:48.040 stated that it's privately owned and not connected to the Chinese Communist Party.
00:03:51.320 However, investigations, and as we've covered on the show numerous times,
00:03:55.620 they've targeted the newspapers in Hong Kong.
00:03:58.680 The Hong Kong News, the South China Morning Post,
00:04:01.080 they've gone and locked up the leader, the publisher of Apple Daily.
00:04:06.180 They've gone after Mark Simon.
00:04:08.020 They've essentially kicked him out of Hong Kong,
00:04:10.420 the guy who was the editor of Apple Daily.
00:04:12.200 They will do anything they can to shut down pro-freedom and pro-democracy.
00:04:15.600 See, anything critical, anything just critical of the Chinese Communist Party
00:04:20.240 or certainly anything critical.
00:04:21.160 By the way, they were locking up booksellers,
00:04:23.940 people who own bookstores that ran books critical of Xi Jinping.

00:04:30.320 and they would later be found north of Hong Kong in Shenzhen.
