00:00:00.000 Ladies and gentlemen, welcome aboard tonight's edition of Human Events Daily, powered by Turning Point USA.
00:00:04.940 Today is February 23rd, 2023.
00:00:07.820 Anno Domini, why national divorce is not a viable option for the United States?
00:00:15.160 This question has been out there, and the answer is no, obviously.
00:00:18.120 We're also going to get into what does it mean to be America first?
00:00:20.700 I've heard a lot of people questioning that.
00:00:22.200 I'm going to lay it out for you.
00:00:22.960 And finally, an update on the Arizona rancher who has been charged with murder.
00:00:27.980 All these stories ahead, Human Events Daily.
00:00:30.000 Folks, the Poso Daily Brief is completely free, and it is available to you right now to sign up for one email directly to your inbox every single day.
00:00:38.280 We're not going to inundate with you with these things there.
00:00:40.560 Again, completely free to sign up, humanevents.com slash post, so you will get access to the Poso Daily Brief.
00:00:46.060 Read what I read for show prep.
00:00:47.360 You want to be doomscrolling across social media all day long on Twitter, Telegram, Getter, Truth, etc.
00:00:52.580 You can have a one-stop shop to find out what's on my mind, what's going into the show, and even stories that don't quite make it into the show.
00:00:59.340 The Poso Daily Brief, humanevents.com slash Poso.
00:01:12.080 So, Steve, you've laid out the numbers here.
00:01:14.700 If this hypothetical were to have it, and Marjorie Taylor Greene were to get her wish, and these states were to succeed,
00:01:19.720 what are some of the practical real-world impacts it would have on those states?
00:01:22.960 Yeah, they would have huge economic deficits.
00:01:27.980 They wouldn't have money for their projects.
00:01:29.960 They wouldn't have new bridges.
00:01:31.460 They wouldn't have federal installations in their districts.
00:01:35.060 They wouldn't have food stamps, and they wouldn't have Medicaid to help cushion their residents against pretty extreme poverty.
00:01:41.920 It would be a really tough and stupid economic decision.
00:01:45.480 Again, the whole irony of this is you've got Republicans who oppose kind of almost every kind of federal spending who are the biggest beneficiaries of the federal spending that they oppose.
00:01:55.640 So, in summary, a terrible idea for everyone involved.
00:01:58.140 And a hypocritical one.
00:01:58.660 Let's knock it off.
00:01:59.660 Terrible idea for everyone in those red states.
00:02:02.340 So, there's been this question of national divorce, and it's come up time and time again.
00:02:09.700 It's getting another moment in the limelight right now.
00:02:13.880 And I just got to come out and say, I mean, this is a silly idea.
00:02:18.180 This is never going to happen.
00:02:19.520 This is not viable.
00:02:20.960 It is not possible.
00:02:22.420 And I really don't think that we should be spending that much time talking about it.
00:02:27.120 I think that people might be saying it for good reasons and well-meaning reasons, but it's also not going to happen.
00:02:34.860 This idea of people moving, by the way, from red states to blue states, that's completely different.
00:02:40.500 And if that's your definition of a national divorce, like I've seen some people say, then, okay, I'm willing to hear you out.
00:02:45.900 Obviously, I'm also seeing those demographic shifts within the United States.
00:02:50.200 So, of course, we can see that people, yes, obviously are moving from blue states to red states right now.
00:02:55.400 We're also seeing red states to blue states.
00:02:57.240 So, you're seeing the mass exodus from California to places like Texas and Montana and Arizona right now.
00:03:03.540 We also saw in 2020 a mass exodus from the northeastern states, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Vermont, down to Florida.
00:03:11.580 Of course, we saw this again and again.
00:03:13.100 So, those states become bluer.
00:03:15.600 The states with the recipients of – if it's blue to red, then the red states become redder.
00:03:21.320 And if people are leaving California, then those states become bluer.
00:03:23.960 So, we see this again and again.
00:03:24.980 We see these trends.
00:03:26.300 But that's not what national divorce means.
00:03:29.060 If people are talking about actually seceding from the United States, from the U.S. government, and becoming a second country, which, again, we saw this in 1860.
00:03:40.560 This was already been tried once.
00:03:41.940 Asked and answered, you would say in court.
00:03:44.000 It did not go well.
00:03:46.220 Right?
00:03:46.840 It was not allowed to occur.
00:03:49.180 So, number one, this would lead to a massive war.
00:03:53.060 I'm going to be very clear about that.
00:03:54.780 It would lead to a massive, cataclysmic war.
00:04:00.260 Friend against friend.
00:04:02.340 Family member against family.
00:04:03.840 Or sibling against sibling.
00:04:04.980 Father against son.
00:04:06.420 The whole nine yards.
00:04:07.580 Millions would die in a national divorce.
00:04:13.160 And that's just the truth.
00:04:14.200 Plus, it doesn't even get into what China, Russia, Iran, Mexico, the cartels would do if all those people were getting involved.
00:04:21.840 Imagine how fast the cartels would take over the Southwest and Southern California.
00:04:26.560 In a second.
00:04:27.820 In a heartbeat.
00:04:29.180 They'd be coming up.
00:04:30.300 Then who's going to fight them?
00:04:32.020 The Southern Army?
00:04:33.300 The Union Army?
00:04:34.360 Right?
00:04:34.700 It doesn't, you know, you can't even begin to think of the permutations here.
00:04:38.420 Not only that, because I heard MSNBC, by the way, just talk, they're framing it in terms of, you know, the numbers of food stamps and economic assistance, et cetera, et cetera.
00:04:51.280 Because that's the whole world of them is social programs.
00:04:53.840 Okay.
00:04:54.560 Ask me this question.
00:04:55.700 Where do blue cities get their food?
00:04:58.820 If there's a breakdown here.
00:05:00.180 Where are the blue cities getting their food?
00:05:02.200 So, you're not getting any of those because you've been disconnected from the bread basket.
00:05:05.340 So, if you're disconnected from the bread basket, you're not getting any food, you're going to try to import it.
00:05:09.480 Or what's more likely going to happen is you're going to have people coming out of the cities and then attacking people who do have the food.
00:05:15.720 Which, again, is what is going to be one of the many things that leads to war.
00:05:19.480 At the end of the day, the U.S. economy is too integrated to allow this to ever be broken into two countries.
00:05:27.660 This continent, for better or worse, only really makes sense from an economic perspective if one government is running it.
00:05:35.700 And the only way that you could have multiple governments running it would go back to the saddest that we had in the U.S. prior to the Revolutionary War where you had multiple empires carving up the North American landmass for themselves.
00:05:51.740 So, prior to the Revolutionary War, remember, you had the British Empire, the Spanish Empire, the French Empire, right?
00:05:59.820 So, Louisiana Purchase, we all remember that.
00:06:02.040 And then what else up in Alaska?
00:06:03.460 That's right, the Russian Empire.
00:06:05.360 So, that would be the status of the United States otherwise.
00:06:09.620 Only you would have China involved and so many other things involved.
00:06:12.700 But I want to say something else that I've noticed for the people, and I said this before, so I'm not targeting anyone directly, but I've noticed something.
00:06:23.200 It seems to me that a national divorce is like the most Gen X thing that I've ever heard because it seems like all the people that are seriously talking about national divorce are from Gen X.
00:06:34.540 And isn't that the Gen X answer for everything?
00:06:37.100 Let's just get divorced.
00:06:39.080 Irreconcilable differences.
00:06:40.220 Let's just split up and hope that the kids are going to be okay anyway.
00:06:44.860 Let's hope we'll have two Christmases.
00:06:46.560 Yay, kids.
00:06:47.200 You'll be super happy about that.
00:06:48.940 Two houses, two Christmases, et cetera, et cetera.
00:06:51.580 It doesn't work.
00:06:54.680 Obviously, it hasn't been great for the children of divorce.
00:06:56.860 I mean, you could look at study after study that shows that.
00:06:58.840 But at the same time, it doesn't work on a national scale either.
00:07:01.860 This is a nation state we are talking about.
00:07:03.760 This isn't a game.
00:07:05.100 These aren't numbers.
00:07:06.140 This isn't a chess piece.
00:07:07.280 These are countries.
00:07:08.240 The same idea of people talk about foreign policy like it appears Morgan, the idiot, talking about, oh, Russia's just a big bully.
00:07:16.980 These are complicated national and international issues.
00:07:21.180 You can't reduce them to Harry Potter talk like that witch on the jury down in Georgia.
00:07:28.320 I'm sorry.
00:07:29.100 Stop trying to reduce everything to Harry Potter.
00:07:32.700 And for Gen X, stop acting like divorce is the only answer to every question.
00:07:39.180 Come on, Gen X.

00:08:36.580 American workers are losing jobs because of a law designed to help the job market.
00:08:41.640 The H-1B visa bill was written in 1990.
00:08:45.060 It lets companies recruit foreign talent for emerging engineering and scientific jobs.
00:08:50.200 But loopholes allow for outsourcing of American jobs to foreign workers, often at lower pay.
00:08:57.140 Bill Whitaker spoke to some Americans displaced by H-1B visa workers for Sunday's 60 Minutes.
00:09:03.440 They say they were asked to train workers who would take their jobs.
00:09:09.600 It wasn't called training your replacement.
00:09:11.980 It was called knowledge transfer.
00:09:14.140 Craig D'Angelo worked for Northeast Utilities, now called Eversource,
00:09:18.440 and was one of 220 IT workers replaced by H-1B visa employees.
00:09:25.220 D'Angelo says his replacement, a worker from India, told him he was making half D'Angelo's salary with no benefits.
00:09:34.000 I didn't get laid off for lack of work.
00:09:38.040 I got laid off because somebody cheaper could do my job.
00:09:42.420 So there's been a discussion lately that I've gotten involved in online,
00:09:47.480 and I've just seen a lot of questions asked and a lot of rhetoric thrown around about America first.
00:09:55.720 A lot of people like to use this phrase because it was popularized under President Trump.
00:10:00.560 Trump movement is the most popular movement in politics today.
00:10:05.420 The MAGA movement and America first has been this huge moniker of the movement.
00:10:10.800 But I think a lot of people don't actually understand what America first means.
00:10:14.260 And so I'd like to go back to basics for just a minute here to explain to people what America first means.
00:10:22.000 And if you saw that clip, talking about workers in tech and workers at Disney, which include workers at Disney,
00:10:31.060 having to train their own replacements thanks to the H-1B immigrant worker program.
00:10:40.560 And it's very clear.
00:10:43.360 America first is a set definition of policies.
00:10:50.240 It is trade, immigration, and foreign policy.
00:10:56.240 That's it.
00:10:58.120 Now, there are other issues that are out there that are very important.
00:11:00.880 They're important to me.
00:11:01.500 They're important to so many people.
00:11:02.640 But that's not the definition of America first.
00:11:05.760 So what does it mean in terms of trade?
00:11:07.880 It means trade deals that benefit the American people.
00:11:13.420 Trade deals that benefit the people of East Palestine.
00:11:15.980 The people of the Rust Belt are bad trade deals like NAFTA, are bad trade deals like this China's most favored status of the World Trade Organization.
00:11:27.040 That's what created the Rust Belt.
00:11:29.160 The Rust Belt used to be known as the Steel Belt.
00:11:30.720 People don't even know that anymore.
00:11:33.800 Immigration.
00:11:34.240 Yes, illegal immigration needs to be stopped, and illegal immigrants should be deported.
00:11:39.140 That's number one.
00:11:39.800 Number two, when you look at these guest worker programs, the H-1B program, when you look at the agricultural programs, even the J-1 visa that is rife with corruption, that's the summer worker program.
00:11:53.120 All of these programs, all of them, are harmful to the American worker and the American family.
00:12:05.040 Why?
00:12:05.580 Because they create deflationary pressure on wages.
00:12:10.900 How many times do I have to keep saying that?
00:12:12.680 If someone is willing to come from another country and work for less, then that has an effect on all wages.
00:12:20.060 And also, you have companies, like we saw here in the clip, that are more than willing to lay off their current workforce in order to bring in people from other countries that are willing to do the job for less than them.
00:12:35.560 It's really as simple as that.
00:12:36.620 It's a numbers game.
00:12:37.160 And if you wonder why real wages stay low in this country and that family formation is put off and birth rates are down and homeownership is down and all of these indicators of economic well-being are down, it's because you're importing foreign workers who are working on the cheap for pennies on the dollar in some cases.
00:12:58.540 And you're willing to do so at the detriment of the people who were born here first.
00:13:05.660 It's as simple as that.
00:13:07.340 On foreign policy, well, I think this week it's pretty easy to see the difference there.
00:13:13.480 Hundreds of billions of dollars spent overseas.
00:13:16.940 We're told about Iraq, Afghanistan, Ukraine, whatever the latest, you know, current thing is that we have to go and spend money on off in the world.
00:13:30.520 While our trains can't even run properly here at home.
00:13:34.780 While our own Navy can't get ships off the pier.
00:13:37.280 Look at the UK.
00:13:38.560 They have this giant flagship, the HMS, Prince of Wales, aircraft carrier, supposed to be in the NATO flagship.
00:13:44.700 They haven't even got it out of port.
00:13:46.940 The thing essentially malfunctioned.
00:13:50.020 They couldn't get it out of Portsmouth Harbor.
00:13:51.700 They had to drag it back in.
00:13:53.180 They have it towed back in the biggest ship the UK Navy has ever made in the history of the British Navy.
00:14:01.180 And they couldn't even get it out of port.
00:14:03.380 It has actually spent more time tied up to the dock since it's been, quote unquote, launched than actually active.
00:14:10.900 A study just came out.
00:14:12.660 So what's going on?
00:14:13.960 Why are we so focused on spending money overseas than actually building, growing, and maintaining the processes we have here at home?
00:14:26.660 This is one of the necessary precepts of America first.
00:14:31.060 Now, people come to me and say, well, POSO, POSO, hold on.
00:14:33.880 What about, you know, what about the Second Amendment?
00:14:35.940 What about pro-life?
00:14:37.040 What about freedom of speech?
00:14:38.280 What about all this?
00:14:38.780 I love all those things.
00:14:40.400 I've always loved all those things.
00:14:41.820 People know who I am.
00:14:42.540 I'm a conservative Catholic.
00:14:43.780 I am as pro-life as they come.
00:14:46.240 The Second Amendment.
00:14:47.560 Yeah, I'm a veteran, a proud gun owner, et cetera, et cetera.
00:14:50.140 I am all of those things in addition to being America first.
00:14:56.060 And this is what I'm trying to explain to everybody, that to be America first is a specific set of ideas, ideologies, principles that are centered around improving the lives of the American people.
00:15:12.580 You notice most of what I talked about is economics just there.
00:15:16.480 Money sent overseas, workers brought from overseas, invade the world, invite the world, right?
00:15:21.840 That's the old policy.
00:15:22.880 That's George W. Bush.
00:15:24.780 That's Romney.
00:15:25.840 That's McCain.
00:15:26.920 That's Paul Ryan.
00:15:28.780 And so when I hear people continually pushing this stuff and calling it, well, this is America first as well.
00:15:33.400 America first to, you know, T-O-O.
00:15:36.260 No, it's not.
00:15:37.660 You're just going back to the old conservative ink and acting like it's also America first, but America first has a set definition.
00:15:44.680 And that's what we're explaining to you today.
00:15:46.560 So it's simple.
00:15:48.540 Either say you are what you are or.
00:15:53.320 Don't lie to us and say that you're something else.
00:15:56.440 Simple as that.
00:15:58.320 Stand up for what you believe, but don't lie.
00:16:00.540 Don't lie to the America first movement and don't lie to the American people because they've been lied too much to over the years by so many people claiming that, oh, we're just here to help.
00:16:12.680 No.
00:16:13.940 You've been ripping them off and you people have been getting rich off of the backs of the American worker and the people of East Palestine for too long.
00:16:23.600 There was no forensic reconstruction of the scene.
00:16:29.320 There was no, there was a radio on the deceased and a cell phone on the deceased.
00:16:33.360 There were no forensic investigations of those items.
00:16:36.380 And there were no witnesses other than Mr. Kelly and his wife who had consistent statements.
00:16:43.160 They nevertheless jumped the gun and decided to charge premeditated first degree murder of Mr. Kelly.
00:16:50.460 This essentially lit a match over a very intense political powder keg.
00:16:57.780 And predictably, there was an explosion.
00:17:01.140 The case of George Allen Kelly and the deceased illegal immigrant down in Santa Cruz County, right on the border of Arizona.
00:17:10.560 This zone is heating up, folks.
00:17:11.760 I think actually this case is going to be, I mean, it's got the potential to be an absolute powder keg, an absolute powder keg.
00:17:18.060 And nobody's talking about this at the level they should yet.
00:17:21.940 But I think it's, it's huge.
00:17:23.240 And it potentially is a case to be huge because you look at the case, right?
00:17:28.840 This is a rancher, a border rancher, a 73 year old man was home alone with his wife.
00:17:35.000 Who says that there were illegal immigrants, in his words, drug runners, crossing his ranch.
00:17:45.380 He heard a gunshot, feared for his life, went out with his gun, his rifle, and wanted to defend his land.
00:17:52.840 Wanted to defend his property.
00:17:55.380 Now that's his side.
00:17:56.480 The government has finally come in now and filed the full charges plus a memorandum of points and authorities, which under Arizona law is what they call their probable cause.
00:18:08.400 So you've got the full fact statement.
00:18:10.420 And their statement conflicts with his.
00:18:12.020 And I've noticed something that in partisan media, whether it's on the right or the left, that each side is only reporting the side that they want to emphasize with the case rather than actually report on the facts as they stand.
00:18:28.740 Well, here on Human Events Daily, we're not going to do that.
00:18:31.100 We are going to report what each side is saying.
00:18:34.160 And this is what's very interesting, because you really do have a he said, she said situation here.
00:18:43.600 Because.
00:18:45.680 The rancher is saying that the only witnesses were me and my wife.
00:18:50.340 But the state is saying that there are other witnesses and their witnesses that came forward.
00:18:55.580 Listen to this are two other anonymous at this point, illegal immigrants who claim that they were with the man who was shot.
00:19:07.900 And found on the ranch.
00:19:10.260 And that they were peacefully breaking onto the land.
00:19:13.580 They're claiming they didn't fire any weapons.
00:19:17.460 At George Allen Kelly.
00:19:18.880 And they're claiming that he opened fire on them.
00:19:24.560 Unprovoked.
00:19:25.560 With his AK-47.
00:19:27.260 And here's what's interesting.
00:19:28.740 So I'm going to make sure that we publish these statements from both sides on the postmillennial.
00:19:36.080 We're going to have it up on Scribid so that you guys can read each of them in full.
00:19:41.200 Because the devil's in the details.
00:19:42.760 It always is.
00:19:45.200 The state is claiming that.
00:19:48.880 That they were unarmed.
00:19:51.080 The defense is claiming.
00:19:53.480 That the group was armed.
00:19:55.800 That they were armed with AK-47s.
00:19:57.660 Now here's an interesting discrepancy between the two sides.
00:20:00.200 The state is saying.
00:20:01.600 That in his initial call.
00:20:03.160 He didn't say AK-47s.
00:20:04.620 He said ARs.
00:20:06.180 Okay, that's interesting.
00:20:07.680 But that's also something where.
00:20:10.760 If you're in the heat of the moment.
00:20:13.100 You might not realize exactly what someone's shooting at you with.
00:20:15.780 So I can understand that.
00:20:16.720 But there's these series of phone calls that are made from George Allen Kelly to the Border Patrol Ranch Liaison there in Arizona.
00:20:26.640 Now here's the thing.
00:20:29.140 If you shoot and kill someone on your land.
00:20:32.600 Unprovoked.
00:20:33.880 And you do so.
00:20:36.700 Knowing.
00:20:37.800 That you've committed murder.
00:20:38.980 I don't necessarily think the first thought in your mind is going to be calling the Border Patrol.
00:20:46.580 Now he claims what happened is that he heard a gunshot.
00:20:49.200 And then he then fired warning shots.
00:20:52.100 Calls Border Patrol.
00:20:53.760 They come out and the sheriff's deputies come out.
00:20:56.160 They don't find anything.
00:20:57.040 Then later he says he finds a body.
00:21:01.840 Calls them back.
00:21:03.080 This is at 523 p.m.
00:21:05.760 And again, there's a series of phone calls from 230, 236, 423 and 523.
00:21:12.160 And in the 523 call, which is then returned at 535.
00:21:15.920 He explains that a body has been found.
00:21:22.060 So remember, the rancher, and I think this absolutely goes to his defense, he is the one who self-reported this incident.
00:21:31.200 He is the one who self-reported what was going on.
00:21:33.140 The state is claiming that he initially said no one was armed.
00:21:37.180 But they're also saying that a dispatcher put out that they were armed.
00:21:41.740 So the state's statement here has its own inconsistencies that I'm breaking this down in real time.
00:21:47.620 And I apologize if it's a little confusing if you haven't actually read these documents.
00:21:53.260 But I've been going through them.
00:21:54.940 My producers have been going through them.
00:21:56.220 We're going to continue to investigate this situation and continue to look at it because there's a lot of inconsistent statements between all of this.
00:22:04.700 At the end of the day, this is going to go down to an Arizona border jury.
00:22:09.880 So we're going to see.
00:22:12.060 We're going to see what comes down here because the other piece of this, by the way, and I always say, remember, I always say everyone's afforded due process.
00:22:19.960 Everyone's afforded a fair trial.
00:22:23.060 Whether you're Jeffrey Epstein, Harvey Weinstein, or George Allen Kelly, that's our system.
00:22:28.580 We believe in it or we don't.
00:22:30.640 So I say show me the evidence on everyone, even if it's Alex Murdoch, even if HBO and Netflix are making documentaries about him, show me the evidence.
00:22:38.320 There's no bullet found.
00:22:41.400 So should a bullet be found?
00:22:43.260 Maybe it will upon further investigation.
00:22:45.100 But at this point, no bullet has been found, which means we don't even know what type of rifle firearm in general was used to kill this victim.
00:22:56.780 We also don't know if he was part of this group that was running drugs.
00:23:02.240 And for these witnesses to come forward now, obviously, they are potentially looking at ways to get into the United States.
00:23:09.680 Have they been receiving deals potentially from federal authorities to say, we'll guarantee you immunity if you want to come, if you want to testify, et cetera, et cetera.
00:23:17.020 So there's a lot at play here.
00:23:18.540 There really is a lot at play here.
00:23:21.540 But even then, I'm just going to say it.
00:23:23.300 It points out right here in the 2.30 call.
00:23:29.040 The 2.30 call from George Allen Kelly to Border Patrol Ranch Liaison Agent Morsell.
00:23:35.020 He said, I'm being shot at and I'm shooting back.
00:23:39.020 He later includes in his own statement that he was shooting over their heads warning shots.
00:23:44.240 So, like any other case, there are always going to be two stories.
00:23:52.780 But there's only one set of facts.
00:23:55.200 And we need to understand that.
00:23:57.420 Because just like any other news story that's out there, there's going to be narrative, there's going to be spin.
00:24:02.720 But what's interesting about a murder case, which this is, he's been charged with the first degree murder.
00:24:09.080 There's only one story that actually fits the facts.
00:24:12.520 And if you want to charge someone and convict them of murder, it needs to be beyond reasonable doubt.
00:24:20.120 So the question is, is there reasonable doubt in this case?
00:24:23.840 At this point, I'd say there absolutely is.
00:24:26.680 Ladies and gentlemen, as always, you have my permission to lay ashore.
