00:00:00.000 Hey, what's up? I'm Tony Gonzalez.
00:00:01.540 And I'm October Gonzalez.
00:00:02.940 But you can call me Toby.
00:00:04.000 We want you to join us on our new podcast,
00:00:06.660 No Safe Words with October and Tony Gonzalez.
00:00:08.960 Where we get real about marriage, parenthood, sex, divorce,
00:00:12.520 and all the nitty gritty stuff we all think about.
00:00:14.980 But just don't say it out loud.
00:00:16.060 You're probably just going to be some rich guy
00:00:17.460 and he's going to whisk you away.
00:00:19.760 This is awkward.
00:00:20.840 Listen to No Safe Words with October and Tony Gonzalez
00:00:23.640 on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast,
00:00:26.580 or wherever you get your podcasts.
00:00:29.340 You're not incurable.
00:00:30.460 You're not broken.
00:00:31.500 You're having a normal human experience, and we have a solution for that.
00:00:34.820 And that solution is our podcast, Free Therapy.
00:00:37.220 I'm Ben.
00:00:37.760 And I'm Kevin.
00:00:38.460 And every week, we talk to leading therapists in the country about relationships, work, family dynamics, and all of life's headaches.
00:00:44.540 If you're trying to get rid of anxiety, you're actually fueling more anxiety.
00:00:50.080 So listen to Free Therapy, because therapy is expensive.
00:00:52.600 But our podcast is free!
00:00:54.180 Listen to free therapy with Ben and Kevin on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
00:00:59.640 There are thousands of podcasts that can tell you how to better yourself.
00:01:04.120 Get Worse with Kyle Pru is not one of those podcasts.
00:01:07.500 So if you're interested in getting thinner, going to therapy, starting peptides, setting boundaries, taking supplements, making your better, getting closure, then I would humbly recommend other podcasts.
00:01:16.260 If you're interested in blackmail, love bombing, cloning yourself or getting revenge, then we've got a little something something for a dastardly individual like you.
00:01:24.840 Listen to Get Worse with Kyle Pru on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. 0.80
00:01:30.740 Do you love golf? If so, you should listen to Three Putt Bogey.
00:01:34.900 I'm Chuck Bryant from the Stuff You Should Know podcast.
00:01:37.220 And I'm Adam Pranica from a couple of embarrassing hit Star Trek podcasts.
00:01:40.940 And each week on 3 Putt Bogey, we're going to get into the bunker and get to the bottom of what is just so alluring and frustrating about the most beautiful game in the world.
00:01:49.760 So whether you're someone who pipes it on the driving range, but freezes up on the tee box.
00:01:54.060 Or misses that 3 Putt putt when everything's on the line.
00:01:57.000 Whether to laugh about it with you on 3 Putt Bogey, a podcast about two mid-handicappers, one great shot, and the 3 Putt that spoils it all.
00:02:05.200 You can listen to it now on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
00:02:10.940 I've been in pain since the day I was born 0.74

00:02:17.620 That was where my life began.
00:02:19.220 My parents are dead because of drugs,
00:02:21.300 but because of mental illness,
00:02:22.380 I will not follow that path. 0.71
00:02:24.080 I tried to take my life.
00:02:25.200 It will never happen again.
00:02:26.740 If anybody tells you Kevin Hines died by suicide,
00:02:29.260 you open an all-out investigation that was a murder. 1.00

00:02:53.520 That was really wet
00:02:54.600 At least it was original
00:02:56.980 Can I tell the people something?

00:03:16.280 You look so festive right now.
00:03:19.820 It's in my mouth.
00:03:20.500 It's in my mouth.

00:03:22.380 Should we restart?
00:03:23.220 Yeah, we need a fan.
00:03:25.120 Do we have a fan?
00:03:25.640 It tastes like hummus, dude.
00:03:30.840 That was dramatic.
00:03:31.800 I'm not going to lie.
00:03:33.080 I really just messed up the entire flow of the show.
00:03:35.240 I really hope you don't. 0.99

00:04:28.320 it's the same hey let's let's let's dive in let's talk about stuff so so um you guys know
00:04:34.940 uh kevin was the guy who i featured in my suicide be here tomorrow video at the beginning of the
00:04:41.680 year to this day is the number one most viewed suicide psa on the internet and quite arguably
00:04:48.800 might be the most effective so high five for that kevin uh as again you guys may or may not know has
00:04:54.540 an incredible story you can read about it uh km heinz foundation.org i'm sure they can they can
00:05:00.580 find it anywhere yeah i can but uh here's where this gets interesting kevin and i have actually
00:05:06.960 grown into real friends wow we have really yeah and family in the game family bro what's your
00:05:13.980 what's what's your motto that you say we are the healthiest no i said that already is that the one
00:05:19.140 yeah but you could say it again say it i'm gonna say it with a raspy voice okay tight we are the
00:05:23.860 Healthiest social media family in the game.
00:05:27.380 Ooh.
00:05:28.380 Makes me want to drink my greens and...
00:05:31.780 That just makes me want to do everything.
00:05:33.080 Made my toes sweat a little bit.
00:05:36.180 Toe sweat? 1.00
00:05:36.860 Margaret hates it. 1.00
00:05:38.700 Margaret.
00:05:39.260 Margaret's Kevin's wife. 0.99
00:05:40.200 Why does she hate that? 1.00
00:05:41.060 Well, her and the folks, we work with Lauren Breenan, 0.74
00:05:43.620 and she's from Australia, and she's like,
00:05:44.740 stop saying it.
00:05:45.840 We know what you are.
00:05:47.480 Say it.
00:05:48.180 Say it. 1.00
00:05:48.880 Say it with your damn chest. 1.00
00:05:51.160 When I talked to the Logang, it was like, 1.00
00:05:53.640 yo, we're the strongest social media family.
00:05:55.760 Got it from this guy.
00:05:56.720 No, you have to.
00:05:58.080 So that focuses, when you say healthiest,
00:06:00.920 talking about physical, like I'm not sick
00:06:03.200 or because I know your focus is on mental health and wellness.
00:06:07.020 So I'm expanding, all right?
00:06:08.340 For 17, 18 years, I traveled the world 320 days a year
00:06:12.060 telling my story about recovery from severe mental illness,
00:06:14.720 bipolar disorder, type one with psychotic features,
00:06:16.680 both my biological parents as I'm adopted have it, right?
00:06:19.200 Now I'm focused on all around wellness,
00:06:21.380 full wellness, whole wellness, non-inflammatory foods,
00:06:23.420 most days most meals exercising multiple times a day for my better brain health 23 minutes of
00:06:28.900 rigorous exercise 12 hours of better brain health so i am working tirelessly in all aspects of my
00:06:32.980 health physical mental spiritual emotional uh well-being to stay alive i live with chronic
00:06:38.500 thoughts of suicide they plague me if i don't hustle hard and work tirelessly for my brain
00:06:41.900 health i will not be here you are the first guest to talk that fast that was amazing and you are
00:06:47.860 also the first guest to not wear the headphones at all wearing my own headphones he's wearing his
00:06:52.660 Which are not connected to the audience at all.
00:06:55.680 They're transmitting absolutely nothing.
00:06:58.040 Kevin, that's amazing.
00:06:59.900 So beyond Kevin having a message
00:07:01.800 that is actually impacting the world.
00:07:03.980 In a big way. 0.99
00:07:04.960 You're a dope ass dude. 0.99
00:07:06.980 He brought us these sweaters. 0.99
00:07:08.700 That was so nice.
00:07:09.420 I've never had a Christmas sweater in my life.
00:07:12.540 And now we rockin' unicorns
00:07:14.040 and drunk Santa Claus and ripped old men.
00:07:16.640 And also Spencer's, I guess, was a shark.
00:07:18.240 Shark Santa.
00:07:19.860 But no, thank you, Kevin.
00:07:21.600 um and how's that been going bro because you you told me on the phone you travel 320 days a year
00:07:27.760 most years yeah a lot of travel so how do you focus on your mental health and wellness so when 0.96
00:07:31.780 you're doing crazy shit like that wake up at 4 30 every morning hit the gym hit the weights or hit 0.79
00:07:35.900 the ground running or working whatever i do i do something physical every morning at 4 30 in the 1.00
00:07:39.560 morning uh for 13 to 23 minutes every single day i then do that three or four times a day uh because
00:07:45.500 i do a lot of physical pain as well that people don't most people don't know about i know a lot
00:07:48.860 physical pain and that goes and comes so i have to work out or else i don't feel good so i do that
00:07:52.620 uh every day i eat uh at the same time roughly every day no matter the time zone with some
00:07:57.140 variables given on travel um i sleep really well most nights probably five to seven nights a week
00:08:02.320 i'm sleeping like a rock not a baby some some ladies said don't say that don't say you're
00:08:05.960 sleeping like a baby babies don't sleep they don't so i learned that lesson you're regimented
00:08:09.580 regimented everything is regimented the only way to defeat mental illness is by having a strict and
00:08:14.320 clear present regimen or routine a routine yeah it was in time magazine 2004 when i was in my third
00:08:19.220 psych word stay that i read this article that said if you follow a routine that is science-based
00:08:23.820 evidence-informed to stay mentally stable you will be more mentally stable most days than if you don't
00:08:28.380 i've i've heard the same thing about boundaries setting boundaries for yourself and setting like
00:08:33.420 a regimented daily schedule is one of the best ways to fix your mental health that's huge i allow
00:08:39.140 for spontaneity on the weekends which i think everybody's like coming to logan paul's house
00:08:42.080 and going out impulsive.
00:08:44.060 One more time on the laugh.
00:08:46.180 Incredible.
00:08:46.780 Sounds kind of like Santa Claus.
00:08:47.940 Truly, truly incredible.
00:08:49.520 So you've really focused on your fitness, bro.
00:08:52.040 Like, you can't see right now, guys. 0.98
00:08:53.220 Yo, Kevin's fucking young. 0.99
00:08:54.800 We see it. 1.00
00:08:55.620 Let's see it.
00:08:56.120 Yeah, make sure to take those headphones off.
00:08:59.540 We can see it. 1.00
00:09:00.400 Holy shit. 1.00
00:09:01.700 We are the healthiest social media family in the game. 0.99
00:09:04.540 Now I really believe that.
00:09:07.100 Vascularity, bro.
00:09:07.900 You got any more tickets to that gun show, man?
00:09:09.620 Yeah, man, right here.
00:09:10.240 For real.
00:09:10.860 Holy.
00:09:11.080 Don't leave it at you
00:09:11.760 Feel it
00:09:12.060 Feel it Mike
00:09:12.600 Come on
00:09:12.900 Solid as a rock
00:09:14.000 There it is 0.99
00:09:14.660 Damn 1.00
00:09:14.900 Shit it feels like a 1.00
00:09:16.080 Freaking 1.00
00:09:16.400 Kev when I met you
00:09:17.520 You did not look like this
00:09:19.780 Well how about when I was
00:09:20.500 Making this film
00:09:21.000 Suicide the ripple effect
00:09:21.840 This is for you
00:09:22.560 Log and look how big I was
00:09:23.920 65 pounds heavier
00:09:25.040 Yeah dude
00:09:25.740 65 pounds heavier
00:09:26.800 You've made some shreds
00:09:28.580 And dude you're lean bro
00:09:30.240 You're lean and mean
00:09:30.880 Lean bro
00:09:31.380 You're lean and nice
00:09:32.040 Actually I should say
00:09:32.720 Oh thank you brother
00:09:33.340 Can I ask you something
00:09:34.300 Ask me anything
00:09:35.040 I have beef with this
00:09:37.300 Why you wake up at 4.30 Kevin
00:09:39.660 Cause I have to man
00:09:40.880 like my alarm clock goes off by itself wake up i need that i'm gone but have you because because
00:09:46.760 doesn't mark walberg wake up at like 1 30 a.m and go to sleep at like 6 p.m he does a workout
00:09:51.760 that sounds like a personal problem and like 2 a.m or something no no but that's wild you know
00:09:56.620 you see the guys on instagram they're like wake up 4 30 a.m i hit the gym i get my protein shake
00:10:01.620 i had 48 eggs yeah yeah like and i'm just like yo what if i wake up at like i don't know reasonable
00:10:06.660 time 8 30 still hit the gym and uh don't go to sleep as early as you it does that what time you
00:10:12.480 going to sleep i'm in bed by 10 or 11 at night most nights because i have to do that for my
00:10:16.200 brain are you sure yeah like you like what you were saying it's like you gotta have a lot i was
00:10:21.460 gonna say yeah i get a lot of late night texts from you you have been lately because my sleep
00:10:25.820 has been interrupted by certain things but that's the physical pain talking okay so i'll wake up in
00:10:29.540 excruciating physical pain sweating from head to toe can you have to get out of bed and and go take
00:10:33.620 a cold shower. And it like, what happened was my meds poisoned my system. They poisoned my liver
00:10:38.740 and my kidneys. Um, and I was on the tipping point of Stevens-Johnson syndrome, which if you
00:10:42.840 get Stevens-Johnson's, you have 1% chance of survival. I was already 1% to survive the Golden
00:10:46.920 Gate Bridge. I wasn't going to be 1% again. If you get Stevens-Johnson's, don't look it up on
00:10:51.540 Google. You will never close your eyes again because you won't be able to sleep. This is from
00:10:55.200 the meds? Yeah, from the meds. Your insides come out of you. Now I've taken medication for 20 years
00:10:58.700 to mitigate my mental health. I still take it today, just a lot less. It poisoned my organs,
00:11:03.020 causing secondary burns across my entire body,
00:11:05.580 bloody blisters throughout, head to toe.
00:11:07.160 Yo, I remember that.
00:11:09.200 I don't think either of you were here.
00:11:11.800 You were, right?
00:11:12.480 You came over the one day, Kev,
00:11:14.280 and I could just tell, bro, you were struggling,
00:11:18.200 and you explained to me what that was.
00:11:20.140 And when Kevin says, guys, he was in physical excruciating pain,
00:11:25.300 my man means it.
00:11:27.100 So you've been taking far less medication,
00:11:30.300 and the routine has been helping, yeah?
00:11:32.600 So less medication that was poisoning me because I had to or I would die.
00:11:36.060 I literally, they said, if you keep taking them, you'll die.
00:11:37.860 You said 1% chance of survival.
00:11:39.700 1% chance of survival from Stevens-Johnson's.
00:11:41.020 I was on the tipping point.
00:11:42.180 If they hadn't caught it in the time they did,
00:11:43.860 you wouldn't be sitting here talking to me.
00:11:45.420 You're an anomaly in so many ways.
00:11:48.420 I'm sorry.
00:11:49.060 I'm blessed.
00:11:49.680 I'm lucky.
00:11:50.040 No, it's all good.
00:11:51.300 And so I found, so Eczema Honey Co. reached out to me
00:11:54.260 when they saw the burns on the IG feed.
00:11:57.240 They reached out and said, look, we think this can help clear your skin.
00:11:59.820 So they sent it to me and I used this Eczema Honey Co.
00:12:01.500 It's not a promo.
00:12:02.040 like they did save my, my skin. Like I, you know, you know, secondary burns like from a fire, man,
00:12:07.020 but all from meds. So I did the, I did the, I did the honey, I used my honeycomb come from honeycomb
00:12:11.420 and, and, and bees and it healed my skin physically. And I, and I augmented my diet. I was eating so
00:12:17.400 much inflammatory foods, which caused me to be 70, 65 pounds heavier than I was, uh, than I am now.
00:12:22.800 But the inflammatory foods were also causing the majority of my mental stress. So I had extreme
00:12:28.040 paranoia every day, most days, which meant that I would look around, I would see Mike, my friend,
00:12:31.620 mike my friend log my friend spencer and i would immediately think all three of you were plotting
00:12:35.420 to kill me right now that was a day-to-day thing every speech i went to i thought the crowd of
00:12:40.340 5 000 was ready to ambush the stage and kill me every single day but i did it anyway and i said 0.87
00:12:44.240 myself i'm gonna go do this because if i can give them a good message before i die then that's what
00:12:47.580 i'm sent here to do you know so i was reading today stagnant minds are the breeding ground of
00:12:53.280 fear is that and that's what you were kind of suggesting is the cause of mental mental health
00:12:58.360 issues um it's having a you know a daily uh regimen that keeps you focused and keeps you on
00:13:05.480 track is that the the main way that you can do it without meds that you suggest i'm glad you put
00:13:10.680 that together because here's the thing all right people who aren't doing things for other people
00:13:14.820 are in more pain than those who are giving is the true receiving it's about to be christmas right
00:13:18.980 here's the deal people who volunteer for a cause outside of themselves are 63 more mentally well
00:13:26.360 than those who do not so the idea here ladies and gentlemen is to find your positive purpose
00:13:31.280 get it go for it grab it take it use it and help change someone's life because it will change
00:13:37.020 yours has that happened to you has that been your has that been a huge piece of the puzzle for you
00:13:42.660 moving forward with your life and your recovery having this purpose to raise awareness and raise
00:13:49.020 you know um and build this conversation around suicide awareness everywhere i go in the world
00:13:53.800 and I travel everywhere I can to talk about this story.
00:13:57.320 When you tell someone's story, they tell you theirs.
00:13:59.780 And then you've got hundreds of people,
00:14:02.020 sometimes thousands, depending on the audience,
00:14:03.720 that rush the stage or rush down to the gym floor.
00:14:06.880 And then they tell you their truth
00:14:08.440 for the first time they've never told anybody in their lives.
00:14:11.260 I have a purpose.
00:14:12.260 My purpose is to ignite people to share the truth
00:14:15.640 because a pain shared, Mike, Log, Spencer, is a pain halved.
00:14:19.720 If you share your pain, if you never silence your pain,
00:14:22.300 no matter if you're the toughest person in any room,
00:14:24.320 you can always survive the pain.
00:14:26.560 I've been in pain since the day I was born 0.91
00:14:28.080 on 6th Street in a crack motel. 0.86
00:14:29.820 That was where my life began.
00:14:31.300 My parents are dead because of drugs,
00:14:33.380 but because of mental illness,
00:14:34.460 I will not follow that path. 0.71
00:14:36.140 I tried to take my life.
00:14:37.280 It will never happen again.
00:14:38.820 If anybody tells you Kevin Hines died by suicide,
00:14:41.340 you open an all-out investigation.
00:14:42.900 It was a murder. 1.00
00:14:44.020 Let's fucking go, Kev. 1.00
00:14:45.960 Let's fucking go, Kevin. 0.99
00:14:47.160 I love you, dude. 0.99
00:14:48.680 So what do you say to those,
00:14:51.400 like we get dms all the time of of young people people in general just struggling with mental
00:14:56.460 health and like just what do you say to somebody who's considering taking their life or um you
00:15:03.160 know they're they're just having those those self-doubts about themselves i'll break down a
00:15:06.840 real-time example uh six months ago i was coming back to atlanta my home with my wife uh on from
00:15:13.560 a tour a three-week tour i get to the uber driver the uber pulls up i get a phone call from from
00:15:18.800 facebook or instagram like you know that you can call anybody yeah so i get a phone call from
00:15:22.420 instagram or facebook i answer it it's his kid 16 year old kid colin and colin tells me that he
00:15:28.380 couldn't make that i didn't because i didn't make it to my last speech before the tour because of
00:15:32.320 trep to the weather he was going to take his life and he said kevin you you got through your pain
00:15:36.640 but i can't i said colin how old are you he said i'm 16 i said colin hold on stay on the phone with
00:15:41.760 your brother and i eventually got him to tell me his mom's phone number and his address we got the
00:15:46.780 police there in time he's alive today he calls me on a regular basis now and he calls me on a
00:15:50.620 regular basis to let me know he's safe look it's not about what you say or how you say it it's it's
00:15:55.180 about engaging the individual in obvious lethal emotional pain and being there for that individual
00:16:01.640 we can argue about semantics of how to say the right thing or the wrong thing if you look at
00:16:05.720 them with kind eyes hospitality hospitability and compassion with total empathy and entire
00:16:10.940 lack of judgment for what they're thinking if you don't tell them that what they're thinking is wrong
00:16:14.480 if you let them know that millions of people
00:16:15.960 around the world think of suicide
00:16:17.040 and you say, I've got your back on lockdown
00:16:18.900 and I'm not leaving this room until I know you're safe
00:16:20.900 or I'm not leaving this phone call
00:16:22.100 until I know you're safe.
00:16:23.040 We do that with people, my wife and I,
00:16:24.720 every single day, multiple times a day.
00:16:27.140 I'm on my own crisis text line.
00:16:28.900 But you can actually, we can actually save more lives.
00:16:31.840 You can text CNQR, CNQR to 741-741.
00:16:36.160 That's our foundation's conquer keyword.
00:16:37.900 Conquer your pain.
00:16:39.140 Courage to talk about your mental health.
00:16:40.740 Normalize the conversation.
00:16:41.820 Ask the question, are you suicidal?
00:16:43.000 And do you have a plan?
00:16:43.860 r is for recovery living proof conquer your pain and text cnqr to 741741 if you're in crisis they
00:16:50.520 got you within minutes on lockdown and they're going to keep you safe tonight we've had 350
00:16:55.200 active rescues of lives saved since we launched that so is a big thing would you encourage people
00:17:00.940 who are who are struggling really to just reach out to somebody and and and you're encouraging
00:17:06.260 all of us to also reach back out to those people right yeah so you got that you got it perfectly
00:17:10.860 and so it's not about just having them reach out
00:17:12.580 because very few of them are going to.
00:17:13.940 It's about actively human beings across this nation,
00:17:16.280 around the globe, searching daily for those people
00:17:19.680 and that kind of augmented pain
00:17:21.440 and then reaching out so they don't have to reach in
00:17:23.960 so that we're both actually engaged in this process
00:17:26.860 because what's gonna happen is you're gonna have
00:17:28.140 so many people who are quieting and silencing their pain.
00:17:30.600 We all need to be the stewards of hope in this hope nation.
00:17:33.600 We all need to be the ones that go into them and say,
00:17:35.940 hey, you look like you're unwell.
00:17:37.220 I just wanna know what's going on.
00:17:38.020 If we don't know they're from Adam
00:17:38.880 and they go, who are you and why do you care?
00:17:40.720 You just say, cause I'm human and I've been in pain and you look like you are.
00:17:43.640 And I got you.
00:17:44.260 If you need my help, I'm here.
00:17:45.940 It's funny you say that because in the video we made, um, what you just iterated was what
00:17:52.560 you said that was the one thing that no one said to you.
00:17:56.680 And I think that message is so important and, and, uh, even more so incredibly easy for
00:18:05.100 everyone to do.
00:18:05.660 It's very easy to show compassion and care and be empathetic towards the person sitting to your left on a bus if you may or may not know them.
00:18:16.040 Yeah, it's huge.
00:18:17.060 Like I was down in San Diego.
00:18:19.020 I saw some guy walking down the street just crying.
00:18:21.980 And we had just gotten food and he served us food.
00:18:25.780 And here he's walking down the street crying and we just went and talked to him.
00:18:28.580 Hey, what's up?
00:18:29.480 You know, he's trying to push us away, but we talked to him just to find out, you know, he's having an issue with his mom.
00:18:33.760 but you don't know how much that conversation alone could help that person just that they know
00:18:40.100 somebody actually cares they see them struggling i think that's huge like if you see someone
00:18:44.220 struggling just talk to him talk spencer does this thing it's called the i love you challenge
00:18:48.520 it actually went viral how many you filmed it and how many views does it have we across all
00:18:53.120 platforms i got over 100 million that is a lot of views to get on a video of you doing
00:18:59.040 what you go up to someone and say yeah just say i love you to random strangers it was like
00:19:03.940 we we all got together and we're like yo what if we just said i love you to random people and see
00:19:09.020 what their reactions is simple concept i do it at the end of every speech it's huge man
00:19:12.820 like that word like there's people that go you know i grew up in a family where i was told i
00:19:18.180 love you every day multiple times and i i honestly took that for granted for the majority of my life
00:19:22.960 and i think there's a lot of people that go like potentially years without hearing that
00:19:28.080 that's crazy at the end of every speech i ask everyone to stand it's how i get my standing
00:19:33.140 ovations no i'm kidding at the end of every speech i ask everybody who's physically capable
00:19:38.720 to please stand and i say and i say repeat after me my name your name and then repeat after me and
00:19:43.760 i say kevin they say your name kevin spencer logan mike mike it's that's mike it's mike he
00:19:50.920 struggles with that sometimes i am beautiful then they repeat kevin i am wonderful they repeat kevin
00:19:56.160 Hey, can we do this?
00:19:57.180 Let's do it.
00:19:57.500 Let's do it.
00:19:57.720 All right, here we go.
00:19:58.280 All right, here we go.
00:19:59.160 Kevin.
00:19:59.960 Spencer.
00:20:00.460 Logan.
00:20:00.880 Mike.
00:20:01.140 I am.
00:20:01.800 I am.
00:20:02.220 I am.
00:20:02.660 Beautiful.
00:20:03.300 Beautiful.
00:20:03.900 Kevin.
00:20:04.560 Logan.
00:20:05.080 I am.
00:20:05.760 I am.
00:20:06.460 Amazing.
00:20:07.140 Amazing.
00:20:07.700 Kevin.
00:20:08.180 Logan.
00:20:08.760 I am.
00:20:09.380 I am.
00:20:09.880 A walking.
00:20:10.520 A walking. 0.69
00:20:11.220 Phenom. 0.91
00:20:11.960 Phenom.
00:20:12.440 All right, now we are all walking phenoms.
00:20:14.460 We are all, hold on, we're not done.
00:20:16.080 We are all, we're all intended to be here.
00:20:17.920 I gotta go for a run.
00:20:18.600 We're all intended to be here until our natural end.
00:20:21.820 Suicide is never the solution to our problems.
00:20:23.760 It is the problem.
00:20:24.980 And I say, repeat after me.
00:20:26.380 I will.
00:20:27.700 I will.
00:20:28.480 Never.
00:20:29.040 Never.
00:20:29.600 Die.
00:20:30.100 Die. 1.00
00:20:30.500 By my hands. 1.00
00:20:31.340 By my hands.
00:20:32.160 I will fight the pain.
00:20:33.200 I will fight the pain.
00:20:34.140 In spite of the pain.
00:20:35.160 In spite of the pain.
00:20:36.020 To thrive today.
00:20:37.060 To thrive today.
00:20:38.240 Oh, do you have to point?
00:20:39.000 Yeah, to thrive today.
00:20:40.100 To thrive today.
00:20:41.560 And I will.
00:20:42.820 And I will.
00:20:44.000 Be here.
00:20:44.820 Be here.
00:20:45.680 Tomorrow.
00:20:46.380 Tomorrow. 0.99
00:20:47.120 And every damn day after that. 0.99
00:20:48.800 Every damn day after that. 1.00
00:20:50.760 Woo! 0.99
00:20:51.400 Wow.
00:20:51.720 Yo, I need to go to one of these, Kev.
00:20:54.320 I can imagine the energy in the room.
00:20:56.800 At the end of that, I say,
00:20:58.760 if nobody else tells you today, I love you.
00:21:02.400 If nobody else tells you today, I care about you.
00:21:05.700 And if nobody else feels this way,
00:21:07.700 I want you to be here until your natural end.
00:21:10.220 Think of all the children that never make it past the womb.
00:21:12.840 My wife and I know that pain.
00:21:13.800 Jack Ryan lived eight weeks and no more.
00:21:16.900 He wasn't intended to be here into his physical form,
00:21:18.840 but you all are for the simple fact
00:21:20.100 that i get to look into your beautiful eyes i know you're supposed to be here listen this man
00:21:24.540 right here dj dwayne johnson he saved my life his book the rock says save my life i see i see you are
00:21:31.420 absolutely decked out in dwayne the rock johnson gear do you have the shoes too he's even got the
00:21:36.540 kicks he's got the headphones the tank top everything everything so all right i was gonna
00:21:42.020 ask you where you you find your inspiration kevin and obviously dwayne the rock johnson's one of
00:21:46.900 those people man i even put a credit in the movie thanking him i never met the man i've been trying
00:21:53.000 to meet the man for 20 years but he in his passage in his book the rock says in that book there was a
00:21:59.100 line that read about his depression and how he fought to overcome that bout of depression and
00:22:03.380 that's the book i brought to every psych ward stay until my last of seven psych ward stays when this
00:22:09.040 kid eduardo's mexican kid eduardo came up to me and it was signed by the rock my dad got it signed
00:22:13.160 and that's why i brought it to every psych ward stay because i would read that highlighted passage
00:22:16.020 and I would stay alive.
00:22:17.480 Every time I was suicidal,
00:22:18.460 I would stay alive because of that book.
00:22:19.860 And this kid Eduardo goes,
00:22:21.020 look, man, I need that more than you do.
00:22:22.920 And I was like, no, brother,
00:22:23.860 it's signed by The Rock.
00:22:24.520 I'm not giving you this book.
00:22:25.400 He's like, man, you don't understand.
00:22:26.620 I need that.
00:22:28.460 And I took a minute and I was like,
00:22:30.380 I had this with me for seven psych ward days.
00:22:32.300 I'm just going to give it away to this kid.
00:22:33.960 And a piece of my brain said,
00:22:35.480 what would DJ do?
00:22:36.120 And I was like, here.
00:22:38.140 And he took it and he said,
00:22:39.320 this is going to keep me alive
00:22:40.340 for the rest of my life.
00:22:42.140 And if I never get to meet the man,
00:22:44.740 the myth, the legend,
00:22:46.060 I'll be happy knowing that I get to talk about it
00:22:47.960 and let him know that I rock all his merch.
00:22:50.180 I buy it when it first comes out.
00:22:51.180 I'm one of the first 200 people to buy all his gear every time.
00:22:53.460 And I do that because it means something to me.
00:22:56.000 He says, we're all projects.
00:22:57.500 I am a project and I am one that is going to be completed
00:23:00.420 at my natural end, never dying by my hands,
00:23:03.080 holding my wife's hand like in the film The Notebook
00:23:04.800 I never saw twice or cried during.
00:23:06.980 I love The Notebook.
00:23:08.180 I kind of love The Notebook.
00:23:09.840 Can I ask you a question?
00:23:10.660 Would you ever consider, I don't know,
00:23:14.040 moving in with one of your friends like so i have this little area underneath where i sleep and
00:23:19.340 i just could use a little bit of inspiration in the morning and like you just are a rocket ship
00:23:24.240 brother i'm gonna be in are you in la now yeah i know you i saw the yeah he lives i saw the
00:23:28.540 alligator he lives in the house yeah brother brother if i would be invited i'd be here in
00:23:33.340 a heartbeat on the next plane hey so that's great welcome i just feel like it's not gonna happen
00:23:39.320 I mean, just because only the spot next to your room is tiny, Kev.
00:23:43.840 I like floors.
00:23:44.660 Yeah, but you got a wife, too. 0.99
00:23:46.420 She'd come.
00:23:47.280 It would be an interesting dynamic, to say the least.
00:23:49.560 What if we had an apartment nearby?
00:23:51.500 Would that work?
00:23:52.140 Oh, that'd be fun.
00:23:53.680 Mike wants you here.
00:23:54.680 You're based in Atlanta.
00:23:56.240 But I'm going to be in L.A. January 1 through January 31st.
00:23:59.380 Do you have events out here that we can go to, bro?
00:24:03.160 Let's set some up.
00:24:04.240 That's easy to do.
00:24:05.040 If we set it up now, there'll be a packed house.
00:24:08.340 all right let's work on it what else yeah what else you got going on kev okay working on the
00:24:12.180 docuseries the journey right now the journey is about my travels around the world meeting
00:24:15.880 individuals from all walks of life who have been positively affected by this story we are sitting
00:24:20.640 down with young and old alike every ethnic makeup you can possibly imagine we're going to all
00:24:25.240 different countries to uh of every background and we are meeting people who have written into us
00:24:29.940 online and said this story your story kevin saved my life changed my life brought me back to faith
00:24:34.840 or save my marriage.
00:24:36.720 I get those a lot.
00:24:37.920 So we're going to go sit.
00:24:39.500 None of them are going to know.
00:24:41.060 Wait, they're going to know now. 1.00
00:24:42.300 Oh, shit. 0.99
00:24:43.000 I just messed that up. 0.99
00:24:43.740 Can we cut that, please?
00:24:44.620 No, no, it's okay.
00:24:45.340 None of them are going to know that I'm coming.
00:24:49.340 They're just going to know that they're being filmed
00:24:50.580 for the docuseries about how my story affected their lives.
00:24:52.960 Then I walk in, surprise,
00:24:54.560 and it's been going really well so far.
00:24:55.860 The next is A Time to Shine,
00:24:57.800 a docuseries about a company called the Shoeshine Guild.
00:25:01.300 This is my baby.
00:25:02.700 I was going to do this before I did Suicide the Ripple Effect.
00:25:05.120 This is my baby.
00:25:06.240 We were three main characters, three owners of the Shoeshine Guild, a company that shines
00:25:10.620 shoes and gives six months sober substance users a life.
00:25:15.340 They've been six months sober.
00:25:16.320 They get them six months sober through transcendental meditation and through hard work and hustle.
00:25:19.940 And then they keep them sober.
00:25:21.100 If they're relapsed, they get them back on the job in a matter of weeks.
00:25:23.500 And they say they've saved thousands of lives across the country.
00:25:26.700 They're in LA, New York, London, and Japan.
00:25:29.440 And they are shining shoes to save lives.
00:25:31.280 and their motto is shine or die that's that is so cool and i would very much i can i tell mike
00:25:36.360 something real quick it's really special yeah yeah i like mike mike just talking to mike no
00:25:39.160 pressure mike but it would be my true and greatest honor if you sir would be the host of a time to
00:25:45.180 shine i would i would love that dude i'd love that i i the thing is i i haven't i've done a
00:25:51.640 disservice in a lot of ways to people and not talking about my kind of my personal struggles
00:25:56.700 with with addiction and and you know i won't get i won't steal the shine today uh too much but uh
00:26:02.620 you know as you know i struggled with with addiction um for a long time for for you know
00:26:08.280 over eight years and i really don't talk about that a lot and this is i don't want to interrupt
00:26:13.280 you in any way but i've made this mistake before if you're gonna dive deep which i would love to
00:26:17.860 that wasn't i was just gonna say i was just gonna say which i'll get to in time but then
00:26:21.480 yeah i was just gonna say do you want to do this wearing that outfit
00:26:25.160 no no no no we don't we don't have to but uh yeah so so anyways no it's gonna get clipped
00:26:33.440 and we're just gonna get no no no no i don't want to it's a good it's a good point that's
00:26:36.940 a very solid point and and anyway so so i will sorry mike so so i will i will say this uh it's
00:26:43.820 a topic that i will talk about when the time is right and this episode is not that and i i knew
00:26:48.480 that. Um, but, but, uh, that being said, it, it's a cause that's very close to me. And so, yeah,
00:26:53.360 I'd be, I would love to work with you on that. That would mean the world to me. That would mean
00:26:57.400 the world to me and, and, and to the people that are watching that show, it would have real value
00:27:01.440 added because you've been there. And, and this is going to be the quintessential docu-series
00:27:05.920 on, on substance use disorder, not addiction, not drug use, substance use disorder. Uh, my birth
00:27:13.220 parents died of substance use disorder very tragically. Um, my birth, my, my adopted father,
00:27:17.560 patrick uh his uncle was one of nine children two were stillborn five of them died of liver
00:27:22.900 psoriasis alcoholism cirrhosis and uncle kevin was 30 years drunk and 30 years sober he was my
00:27:28.040 savior he went to every psych ward stay i was ever in uncle kevin may you rest in peace my great
00:27:32.380 uncle kevin 20 people got up at his funeral to say uncle kevin saved my life and he took me to
00:27:37.440 his last 10 chips a day before he died and that's how i learned to tell stories was thrown from
00:27:43.080 uncle kevin and so i'm so blessed that i've gotten the second chance at life and log i can't squander
00:27:48.580 it and we have got to help as many young low gangsters and the world as humanly possible for
00:27:52.960 the rest of our lives always we have to yep to be fulfilled is to have purpose to have purposes to
00:27:57.300 be fulfilled we got this on lockdown the healthiest social media family one thing i wanted to to hear
00:28:02.860 from you a little bit more about just to help people who are dealing with mental health anxiety
00:28:08.340 depression. You mentioned you're cutting out anti-inflammatory foods. I don't know if you
00:28:14.640 guys knew this, but 70% of the serotonin is produced in the gut, which is directly responsible
00:28:22.960 for your mood and depression. So obviously you're probably aware of that. So what are some tips with
00:28:29.520 food that you're finding out? I wish I brought it with me, but there's a book called Genius Food
00:28:34.520 by Max Lugovere, a personal friend of mine,
00:28:36.560 forward written by Mehmet Oz, Dr. Oz, who I was just on.
00:28:38.980 And Genius Foods is all non-inflammatory foods
00:28:41.680 to heal your brain.
00:28:43.360 Why do you think the military has so many suicides?
00:28:45.380 You go to every military base in the country,
00:28:46.960 what do they have?
00:28:47.480 A Taco Bell, a Starbucks, and a Subway.
00:28:49.760 All major inflammatory offenders.
00:28:52.600 And all these guys are eating every day
00:28:54.320 is this inflammation,
00:28:55.820 and they're mentally unstable every single day.
00:28:58.180 And until we change that,
00:28:59.120 they're going to be mentally unstable, 0.98
00:29:00.180 and they're going to die by suicide 22 times a day.
00:29:02.100 So if we were to change the foods in our high school system and our grade school system to not be rubbish and garbage that we're feeding our children every day and not allow the FDA to control so much of our food, we could change the world's depression situation in a matter of months.
00:29:16.500 Yeah. Well, I just got back from Finland a month ago and there they don't allow any soda, no preservatives, nothing in their schools.
00:29:28.640 It's all local. It's all organic, everything. It's not all plant based, but it's all organic and local.
00:29:35.460 Yeah. Which I'm on the same page. It's insane the types of food we eat and we don't have that education about them.
00:29:41.760 and we see the rise of mental health issues,
00:29:44.900 it's kind of directly linked to what we're eating.
00:29:47.040 It's not kind of, it is absolutely 100% directly linked to it.
00:29:50.200 I was living with extreme paranoia every single fricking day.
00:29:53.160 Every day I thought multiple people were trying to kill me out 0.88
00:29:54.880 to get me, trying to hurt me.
00:29:55.560 I thought houses were going to come alive and eat me.
00:29:57.360 That's how bad my psychosis was.
00:29:58.800 I was seeing things like death himself hovering over my bed
00:30:01.060 with his staff and blade telling me to come home with him
00:30:02.980 as his eyes lit to fire and his scald face.
00:30:05.040 But I don't see any of that anymore
00:30:06.400 because of the food I eat.
00:30:08.540 My depression, I can knock out in an hour.
00:30:10.940 clinical depression, a bout of depression in an hour. My paranoias, when they very rarely now
00:30:15.980 come about, I can knock them out in minutes. And I knock them out by doing active exercises to
00:30:21.980 remove that from my body and my mind. And I make sure that I ingest healthy things to feed my mind
00:30:27.160 positive, non-inflammatory foods that make sure my brain functions at its full capacity.
00:30:31.540 It's amazing. So do you have like a couple of foods to stay away from and then a couple of
00:30:35.320 foods to maybe swap it out that just for the people, you know, listening?
00:30:38.540 So anything that comes in a plastic wrapping or a box, no more.
00:30:43.980 Okay, let me just be frank.
00:30:45.340 I have non-inflammatory foods 90% of the time.
00:30:48.660 I still enjoy my treats on my cheat days.
00:30:51.440 But I'm very careful about it because if I eat too much, my skin flares up,
00:30:54.420 I get burns, or my head goes wild and I start getting paranoid.
00:30:57.340 Dairy is one of the biggest culprits in mental stress and mental instability.
00:31:01.400 Dairy is one of the biggest culprits in mental stress and mental instability.
00:31:05.100 If you all would just quit dairy, which was only meant,
00:31:07.860 Milk was only meant, cheese was only meant for babies that can digest it.
00:31:11.680 75% of the adult population cannot digest dairy properly.
00:31:15.180 It just goes to your brain and messes you up.
00:31:16.880 Dairy is a very easy one to cut out.
00:31:19.300 For those of you listening at home, I cut it out when I first came to LA,
00:31:22.400 and I've only seen positive benefits from it.
00:31:24.920 But I will say, it sounds like a bit of a geographical thing.
00:31:30.580 It's very easy to eat healthy in LA and cut bad food out of your diet.
00:31:34.300 But man, when I was living in Ohio, McDonald's in the corner, it's easy.
00:31:38.820 Food deserts, they're called.
00:31:39.980 What is it called?
00:31:40.480 Food deserts.
00:31:41.420 Food deserts, that's right.
00:31:42.400 There's no accessibility to, you know, any kind of healthy foods and people will kind of get stuck in the cycle of eating fast foods.
00:31:49.360 Kev, one thing I want to ask you is you've talked a lot about foods and, you know, I think it's probably a part of the puzzle.
00:31:59.000 But I think at the same time, it's, it's a one, there's a massive, you know, kind of
00:32:04.020 collection of things that you do.
00:32:05.640 What are some of the other things that you do to kind of keep us straight?
00:32:08.160 So, so I have a top 10, I have 10 steps called the art of wellness, which you can find on
00:32:12.540 my YouTube channel.
00:32:13.680 It's on the playlist, the art of wellness.
00:32:15.160 So 10 steps, 12 videos, three minutes each about how to better your mind, brain, behavioral
00:32:19.800 and physical wellbeing.
00:32:20.760 The first step is therapy, finding the therapy that works for you.
00:32:23.620 This doesn't mean talk therapy for everybody.
00:32:25.600 Some people like equine therapy, water therapy.
00:32:27.680 Some people like floating
00:32:29.500 I like floating
00:32:30.960 I mentioned to Logan the other day
00:32:32.320 One of the most interesting things for me
00:32:34.280 Would be having a lazy river in my yard
00:32:36.860 I mentioned this thing
00:32:37.920 He almost convinced me to do it
00:32:40.000 He really wants a lazy river in the backyard
00:32:41.880 It's been a long
00:32:43.020 It'll benefit your brain so much
00:32:44.200 It's raining too
00:32:45.240 Well now that there's a medical need
00:32:48.920 Need for it
00:32:50.080 We have to
00:32:52.220 Find a therapy that works for you
00:32:53.520 Eating healthily most meals most days
00:32:56.560 sleeping well most nights
00:32:58.600 5 to 4, 4 to 5 out of 7 nights a week
00:33:01.060 I've been sleeping 9 to 10 hours 0.98
00:33:03.320 and I feel fucking great 0.98
00:33:05.440 and you look great too 0.97
00:33:06.440 can I say something long
00:33:09.140 I miss the beard
00:33:10.300 I really enjoyed it
00:33:12.380 see how clear his face is though
00:33:15.180 you look beautiful as always
00:33:16.420 I love the beard
00:33:17.900 it made me feel like you were just
00:33:19.460 like a lumber
00:33:21.260 bounty man
00:33:23.340 the beard gave me
00:33:25.220 Acne, bad acne, man
00:33:27.000 And wisdom, though, too
00:33:28.320 Can we do an RIP to the beard?
00:33:31.080 What was the beard's name?
00:33:32.460 Jimmy
00:33:32.740 What was Jimmy? Is that true?
00:33:34.780 What was the beard's name like?
00:33:35.940 Beardy
00:33:36.300 I thought it was Jaime
00:33:37.400 I never named the beard
00:33:39.000 I never named the beard
00:33:39.820 I should have
00:33:40.360 Can I name your beard?
00:33:41.660 It's not existing
00:33:42.420 We still have it in the bag, don't we?
00:33:43.760 Oh, we are selling it
00:33:45.080 Jaime, we miss you
00:33:45.900 And we'll hope to see you soon
00:33:48.000 Again
00:33:49.220 Bye, man
00:33:49.980 It sounds like a lot of things that you're saying
00:33:51.760 Are about moderation
00:33:54.180 you say most days most most sleeping most night well most nights and i'm a i'm a huge proponent
00:33:59.900 of that too i believe strongly in cheat days and in uh and in you know a party a week if anything
00:34:06.620 me and logan call them full sentence saturdays yeah we like to go hard on saturdays just because
00:34:11.240 like you go crazy otherwise grind solid man yeah so eating healthy exercising educating myself as
00:34:17.180 to the nature of bipolar disorder i read literally every publication that has ever come out about
00:34:20.640 bipolar disorder. Everyone that comes out, I have a Google alert. I'm ready for it. And I digest
00:34:25.400 the best ways currently to benefit my brain health. So exercise, eating healthily, education,
00:34:31.000 coping strategies like drawing, painting, and writing. Those are my habits. Music therapy
00:34:35.000 helps me a lot and helps me sleep actually when I'm not sleeping well. So a sleep pattern that
00:34:40.020 is intact most days. And then I also have refrain from drugs, refrain from alcohol. I don't want to
00:34:44.640 end up like my birth parents. So I'm never going to touch those things. I stopped drinking alcohol
00:34:47.840 the day i turned 21 it was a bad scene i had to let it go well you stopped drinking alcohol the
00:34:53.220 day you turned 21 yeah so 21 21 years of age i was in chico with some friends partying and i got a
00:35:00.080 little too wild and rambunctious and i i messed up a lot of people's night and i was i had food
00:35:06.540 poisoning for like three days not food poisoning alcohol poisoning for three days it was
00:35:10.200 mom so i do all these things to benefit my brain health once again it's at the art of
00:35:16.140 on this on my playlist and people are saying that it's helping to save our lives every day
00:35:19.940 do you need him to say it slower no i just what so jake just texted me he said i was so right 0.98
00:35:25.760 jake jake he said is dead yet your house let me come fuck him up i that's why i didn't tell him 0.98
00:35:31.380 we knew it sorry sorry it's okay don't worry there's a lot going on priorities it's all good 0.99
00:35:37.120 it's all good turmoil part of my life we're back so we're back we're back so so coping strategies
00:35:42.880 refraining from drugs and alcohol. I did quit my alcohol consumption. I was way too gone on that
00:35:47.380 stuff. I would get so drunk that I would affect other people's lives in a bad way. I got that
00:35:51.420 last bout of alcohol poisoning and I was done. I quit overnight, which I don't recommend. It's
00:35:56.340 very dangerous to your body. You could die. Don't get help. If you're an alcoholic. I was a binge
00:36:02.400 drinker on the weekends. I would binge drink until blackout many weekends. So I had to cut that out
00:36:06.320 my system, and I do all of these things and so much more
00:36:09.920 because if I don't log Mike, Spencer, I won't be here, man.
00:36:14.740 These thoughts, they creep in and they try to destroy me,
00:36:17.360 and I got this devil on my shoulder that's trying to hurt me,
00:36:20.620 but, you know, we're all in the same pain, just different levels.
00:36:23.700 We're all in the same game, just different devils.
00:36:25.340 It's just we all got to fight the game.
00:36:26.520 The Rock said that.
00:36:27.220 Yes, he did.
00:36:27.800 Well, Confucius said it first.
00:36:29.680 Oh, wait, he did?
00:36:30.740 Oh, man.
00:36:31.860 That was probably The Rock in the past.
00:36:32.840 We're all in the same game, just different levels.
00:36:35.620 We're all in the same pain
00:36:36.660 Just different devils
00:36:37.380 Confucius said it first
00:36:38.240 Confucius said that
00:36:39.620 Yeah man
00:36:40.040 Google that
00:36:40.880 Hold on a second
00:36:41.600 Confucius
00:36:42.980 I'm sure a lot of people
00:36:44.220 Have said it
00:36:44.820 Well I'm just saying
00:36:46.000 When I looked it up
00:36:46.700 It rhymes
00:36:47.260 When I looked it up
00:36:47.780 Confucius probably got it first
00:36:48.920 It rhymes
00:36:49.420 Confucius
00:36:50.140 It wasn't a rock original
00:36:51.460 I don't think
00:36:51.760 I don't know
00:36:52.140 I don't know
00:36:52.800 We're finding out though
00:36:54.660 Logan's doing things
00:36:55.180 You know fact check
00:36:55.740 You're important Logan
00:36:56.440 Well Confucius was born
00:36:57.500 Born in 551 BC
00:36:59.140 Which is a long ass time ago
00:37:00.620 So
00:37:01.100 So
00:37:01.600 Like whatever language he spoke
00:37:03.360 It translated to
00:37:04.340 Devils and levels 1.00
00:37:05.940 Basically what he said in short term was there's levels to this shit. 1.00
00:37:09.960 Yeah, yeah, yeah. 0.99
00:37:10.340 Like he was responsible. 1.00
00:37:11.660 So Confucius said, Mike says today, there's levels to this shit. 0.99
00:37:16.140 I'm actually getting a tattoo, if my wife will permit, and it's a beautiful tattoo. 0.98
00:37:21.900 If it's not of me, I'm not interested.
00:37:23.600 No, it's okay.
00:37:24.200 It's Deadpool.
00:37:25.200 It's the many faces of Deadpool, the comic book character, and here's why.
00:37:29.080 Deadpool is analogous to pain, and so am I.
00:37:30.940 I've been in pain since the day I was born, and Deadpool, the comic character by Rob Liefeld
00:37:35.100 and marvel um absolutely changed my life forever because i realized through deadpool that pain is
00:37:39.760 inevitable but suffering is optional and i've never suffered a day in my life i've been in pain for a
00:37:43.940 long time but i've not once suffered i've been given the gift of a second chance at life and
00:37:47.320 i'm not going to squander it and i'm putting that on my back we're all the whole thing the whole
00:37:51.100 confusion saying and um and pain is inevitable suffering is optional with a bunch of deadpools
00:37:55.660 melded together on my back and it's gonna be sick as yo can we all get tattoos together of deadpool 0.96
00:38:01.620 tattoos or just tattoos in general of each other's faces yes yeah that's what i was down on my butt
00:38:07.140 the deadpool hat yeah man i wear it every day every now that makes every speech makes so much
00:38:11.000 every speech i go to i wear my deadpool hat my deadpool socks my deadpool underwear
00:38:14.100 briefs okay not boxers all right hold on why why why grease because because they fit you know
00:38:21.000 what i'm saying i want to hear something i wear briefs too i haven't worn underwear in probably
00:38:24.320 five years oh my god that's so true that's so true it's true maybe i'll try that kev i don't
00:38:29.220 have underwear on right now why do you do that mike i just don't like i don't like
00:38:33.460 i don't know how to react to that puts his hand in his pants too oh you are that guy are we going
00:38:39.680 there listen going there we're going there have we gone there go there bro quickly yes speaking 0.99
00:38:43.900 of levels yeah man to this shit and to this i'm campaigning for a role in deadpool 3 rett 0.97
00:38:48.920 reese finally wrote back i think you just got it i am speaking of levels how important is have 0.97
00:38:53.060 how important is perspective to you so i so i so something that happened to me recently was i i
00:38:58.640 And speaking of veterans and military, through a brand campaign I did, I met a guy by the name of Travis Mills in Maine.
00:39:06.140 Okay, not to be confused with T. Mills here in L.A., the rapper.
00:39:09.360 I met Travis Mills.
00:39:10.780 He is one of the only surviving quadruple amputees from Afghanistan, from the war in Afghanistan.
00:39:17.000 So in an effort to protect his group, he picked up an IED backpack and blew both his arms and both his legs off.
00:39:24.920 and um he he came back and and and you know went through this this complete and utter like re
00:39:35.140 working and relearning of everything and when i met him he was one of the most positive people
00:39:42.040 i've ever met in my life like what do you like tell them the story of when you first when i
00:39:46.600 first walked up to him he reached out with his um with his hand his prosthetic prosthetic hand
00:39:52.780 and i went to shake it and i shook anyone and scared the shit out of me and i thought i i thought 0.98
00:39:59.620 i'd be a little yeah i thought i'd hurt the shit out of him and then he's not i'm just fucking 0.99
00:40:02.720 oh i like this guy what a g this dude has no legs no arms um he told his wife leave me you'll be 0.99
00:40:10.920 good for the rest of your life take the kid take my daughter don't ever talk to me again 0.96
00:40:14.480 let me bear this pain myself um she did not leave and in that and in that time since then
00:40:22.140 And he has started a foundation called the Travis Mills Foundation in Maine that takes in other amputees and those wounded at war to have a safe place to reacquaint themselves to society prior to going out into the world. 0.99
00:40:36.200 And when I met him, all of my struggles and there have been plenty and I won't get into them, but faded away a little bit because I looked at him and I said, this dude has been through fucking hell, dude. 0.66
00:40:50.000 You know, and so how important is perspective to you and thinking that no matter what, someone is going through something worse than you are? 0.76
00:40:58.680 Perspective is absolutely paramount.
00:41:00.500 If you look at things in a certain lens of suffering and if you feel pity for yourself and self-loathing, that's going to be the lesson you learn and the lesson you lead for the rest of your life.
00:41:12.200 You're going to be in that dark place.
00:41:13.660 But if you look at life and all the pain life brings, everyone, everyone's in pain.
00:41:17.140 Everyone's been in pain.
00:41:17.940 uh look when i when i hit the water and i came up to the surface 70 feet i swam with one breath
00:41:23.680 without the use of my legs a sea lion circle beneath me kept me afloat until the coast guard
00:41:27.320 boat arrived behind me no joke i've proved that and and and and in the in the ambulance in in in
00:41:33.580 the in the coast guard fished me out of the water in the coast guard boat guy looks at me he says
00:41:36.920 do you understand young man how many people we pull out of these waters that are already gone
00:41:41.000 i said no sir and i don't want to know he said i'm gonna tell you anyway he said young man this
00:41:46.460 unit has pulled 57 dead bodies from these waters and one live one perspective right i was the only
00:41:56.020 one that that unit had ever saved crazy and and when you look at that and you go okay i've got
00:42:03.580 to see and look at life differently every place i get to go i love to the 10th degree because i
00:42:08.580 almost didn't get to see it everything i everything i get to do is a gift because i almost couldn't
00:42:14.940 And every single person I get the distinct privilege and honor to meet, to get to know and get to love is a gift from the heavens above because we almost never had the opportunity to grace each other's presence.
00:42:27.540 How do you lose?
00:42:28.500 How could you lose with that mentality?
00:42:30.660 How could you lose with that mentality?
00:42:32.000 I could die tomorrow.
00:42:33.040 I would have the most fulfilled life of anybody I know.
00:42:35.580 Kev, there's something big that I've noticed and you've obviously noticed it way more while traveling the world, doing these events.
00:42:42.900 mental health like you you kind of have um uh maybe like an extreme case that some people
00:42:51.240 might not be able to relate to that are dealing with depression or anxiety just on a small level
00:42:57.120 but from what i've seen mental health is something that doesn't just happen overnight you know it's
00:43:04.160 something that can really slowly can you know compound and add up until somebody's in their
00:43:10.620 fifties, sixties, and then that's when it's triggered. So what do you suggest to the people
00:43:15.100 that maybe are dealing with some minor things, but they need to take action now and they're not?
00:43:23.160 To those of us sitting down on the couch, playing Metal Gear Solid till the cows come home,
00:43:27.600 or those of us who are sitting stagnant in their, in their lives, not working tirelessly for what
00:43:31.980 they want to do and what they, what they love, or they can't find what they love and they can't
00:43:35.460 find their purpose. Hear me when I say this. You still have time. We got plenty of time to die,
00:43:43.440 guys. We're all going to die. We're all going to die, but it doesn't have to be by our hands. 0.99
00:43:47.600 If you give the world time to have things change, you might get to have that beautiful future that
00:43:52.840 you never even desired or imagined. I would have never met Margaret Hines, the love of my life,
00:43:57.200 my best friend and my rock. I would have never had my dog, Max Sharpay, look just like my dad.
00:44:02.540 never had it with all the wrinkles never had him in my life for the time we did i would never have 0.97
00:44:06.900 two god children that loved me unconditionally so here's my point is that you have time to die
00:44:11.160 let it happen naturally if you're in that kind of pain and you're not doing the things you need to
00:44:14.940 do to balance that pain what are you what are you waiting for there's no better time like the
00:44:19.940 present suicide never has to be your solution what you have to do is recognize your true value
00:44:23.500 can i look in the camera and say this yes please all right those podcasters number one podcast in
00:44:28.660 the world right here all right time true of all time right here all right for those podcasters
00:44:33.180 watching number one podcast in the world of all time right here we're sitting in it all right i
00:44:36.920 know you're listening i know you're watching if you're in suicidal crisis right now first thing
00:44:40.460 you need to do is stop and breathe foreign through the nose eight through the mouth purse lips like
00:44:44.740 a whistle but no sound stop breathe stop breathe you got plenty time to die it doesn't have to be
00:44:53.100 by your hands that destroys everyone left behind but don't feel guilty about it you want to live
00:44:58.080 because you deserve this life you deserve a purpose and a future and you can and will find it
00:45:03.140 and here's what i'll say to you right now i live by a motto here i am send me it was a military
00:45:09.580 coin for civilian efforts and suicide prevention given to me by commander nichols of the b-2 bomber
00:45:14.040 operation here i am send me if you need my help at kevin heinz story holler at your boy it takes
00:45:19.760 me six to eight months to get back to people but i promise you i will be patient and recognize that
00:45:23.380 you're gonna die someday let it happen naturally because you'll have all that time to change
00:45:27.940 everything for the better to be more positive to have more light love in your life you deserve to 0.96
00:45:33.160 be here until your natural end and if you need my help i will be there and that's a promise
00:45:38.140 you have made this your life mission kev and you are doing such good things for the world
00:45:46.420 you've started a foundation yes the kevin and margaret heinz foundation yes sir which
00:45:50.980 by the time this video will be out um it was it was the pewdiepie video i uh i i pledged to make
00:45:57.120 a donation to it, which at the time of the shoot recording, I don't know how much is going to be,
00:46:01.900 but hearing you talk is so evident to me that you will do wise with the money and that you will use
00:46:08.760 it to do the thing you were meant to do on this planet. How, how do you plan on making your mark
00:46:18.560 with the Kevin and Margaret Hines Foundation? What is your mission statement? Our mission
00:46:23.360 statement is that if there's anybody in pain, we've got your back on lockdown for the rest of
00:46:28.560 your life. And if you need us, we will be there in some capacity, in every capacity that we can.
00:46:34.080 And this foundation is going to give free therapy to kids and families who otherwise couldn't afford
00:46:40.520 it. Free talk therapy that so many kids need for the struggles and the pain and neglect and the
00:46:45.420 abuse they're going through and the mental stress and the mental suffering. And we are going to help
00:46:49.360 them recognize their true values through extensive therapy, and we're going to fund that effort
00:46:53.880 partly because of you, Log. So thank you very much, first of all. It's going to happen. And
00:46:58.980 we're also going to be creating our Conquer programs, our Conquer curriculum for our grade
00:47:04.000 schools, high schools, and colleges all over the world. Insane. Would you say that mental health
00:47:11.300 and substance abuse is the biggest issue that America faces right now? So the CDC just came
00:47:16.820 out with a report that the mortality rate of human beings has gone down for the first time in I think
00:47:20.720 60 years. Based on the epidemic. Based on the epidemic of opioid crisis and suicide. Suicide
00:47:25.100 is driving down our life expectancy right now. All right. And this is the second rise in suicides
00:47:33.300 in this country in the last two years, which is unprecedented. If we do not act now and get all
00:47:40.220 these siloed organizations to come together and stop being competitive with each other
00:47:44.020 and actually find solutions to save lives we are going to be in a world of pain caused by suicide
00:47:49.180 very very soon more than we already are so we we can do this together brother and we have to it's
00:47:54.300 a must that's what i'm here for kevin can i just add one thing dude i think it's it's crazy how
00:47:59.520 it's basically been a year since we first met you it's getting it's getting to the one year
00:48:04.720 anniversary and i just gotta say it's kind of like a bystander um dude like this is the thing
00:48:10.540 about mistakes like mistakes in this culture that we live in are like people are just thrown down
00:48:17.480 for them but if it wasn't for mistakes that we've all made in our life we wouldn't have met you
00:48:23.120 and like what we're doing right now wouldn't have been able to happen so i think that's kind of
00:48:27.340 something too that i that i take away from this that i'm really grateful for is that's a big
00:48:32.820 thought dude we gotta we gotta we make mistakes but if we get back up and and make an effort to
00:48:38.080 do good there's some beautiful things that can come from that man spence you already you already
00:48:42.320 got the blue one but this one's for you as well because it'll fit you thank you bro and i and i
00:48:46.220 know you know lp's already made a a a cause this a cause to be a part of for a long time and i i
00:48:53.340 can tell you whether it be through making that necessary introductions to get you on the right
00:48:57.600 stages or you know helping you on the legislature the content side whatever it is that i'm i got
00:49:02.780 your back bro right on brother always well we might need your back to go in front of congress
00:49:07.200 with Patrick Kennedy very soon.
00:49:08.880 Whenever you're ready.
00:49:09.580 Let's go.
00:49:10.440 Yeah.
00:49:11.080 We're going to make a difference.
00:49:12.520 We're going to do it together.
00:49:13.640 And the only way to survive suicide
00:49:15.040 is together with no blame and no guilt.
00:49:17.560 They didn't die because of you or in spite of you.
00:49:19.460 They died because of an epic, unrelenting,
00:49:20.900 lethal emotional pain that had nothing to do with you.
00:49:23.240 Wipe that guilt off your shoulders.
00:49:24.560 It doesn't belong to you.
00:49:25.700 I lost seven people, including my birth mom,
00:49:27.580 which my family doesn't like to talk about,
00:49:28.940 but that's a fact.
00:49:30.280 And I'm not going to lose anybody else I love.
00:49:32.600 That's for damn sure.
00:49:33.460 Facts. 0.95
00:49:34.200 It's amazing, bro.
