00:00:00.000 Hey, what's up? I'm Tony Gonzalez.
00:00:01.540 And I'm October Gonzalez.
00:00:02.940 But you can call me Toby.
00:00:04.000 We want you to join us on our new podcast,
00:00:06.660 No Safe Words with October and Tony Gonzalez.
00:00:08.960 Where we get real about marriage, parenthood, sex, divorce,
00:00:12.520 and all the nitty gritty stuff we all think about.
00:00:14.980 But just don't say it out loud.
00:00:16.060 You're probably just going to be some rich guy
00:00:17.460 and he's going to whisk you away.
00:00:19.760 This is awkward.
00:00:20.840 Listen to No Safe Words with October and Tony Gonzalez
00:00:23.640 on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast,
00:00:26.580 or wherever you get your podcasts.
00:00:28.440 Ladies and gentlemen, it's Joel Osteen.
00:00:31.380 Why do you think Gen Z is so interested in Christianity?
00:00:33.940 They're authentic and they want to find God for themselves.
00:00:36.360 So you pretty much are mogging the other pastors through peace maxing as opposed to cortisol spiking.
00:00:41.500 I have no idea what you just said.
00:00:43.920 Would you say this is a megachurch?
00:00:45.940 Yeah.
00:00:46.280 Have you seen Drewski's megachurch sketch?
00:00:48.540 That's funny, you know?
00:00:50.020 You are a wealthy person.
00:00:51.760 Yes.
00:00:52.240 Where are the Bentleys, the yachts, and the jets?
00:00:54.900 do you think there's like different area codes in heaven for people that did better really nice
00:00:59.940 houses for a preacher then they have like favelas for people like me and honestly for you ain't
00:01:05.160 perfect collaborations you did a big one with a guy named kanye what i see now is not the yay
00:01:12.380 that i knew i pray for him what do you think happens when we die and when i say we i mean
00:01:16.600 what happens when mike dies why me specifically well
00:01:19.640 wait we filmed at your wedding that was a cool that was that was cool mar-a-lago was cool
00:01:33.840 but this is an arena thanks sorry for destroying your device this is an arena with a earth
00:01:40.660 sculpture behind me joel i'm i'm kind of mesmerized right now this is this is insane
00:01:48.780 Is this where the Houston Rockets used to play?
00:01:50.500 Yeah, I grew up watching the Rockets play here.
00:01:53.260 I had season tickets right back over there.
00:01:54.780 No way.
00:01:55.480 Section 104, seat four.
00:01:57.280 I shared them with a friend of mine, but back in the, I guess it would be the 80s.
00:02:02.460 Yeah, I had season tickets here.
00:02:04.040 Used to watch Larry Bird and, you know, Michael Jordan, all those guys play here.
00:02:08.760 And never in a million years did I ever dream we would own this building one day,
00:02:13.740 or either I'd be a minister.
00:02:15.060 I mean, I was always behind the scenes.
00:02:16.340 I just never, never even had any idea.
00:02:19.120 I mean, even when I walk in here and drive in now, I still, sometimes I still get goosebumps.
00:02:23.680 Yeah, I get it.
00:02:24.760 We have goosebumps right now.
00:02:25.900 This is insane, dude.
00:02:27.620 It's also, it's really quiet.
00:02:29.860 Like the sound design is, I assume, because when you preach to people in the back, gotta hear you.
00:02:34.140 Yeah, when we took the, when we got the building, we renovated it and made it, because it was a basketball arena.
00:02:39.880 And I didn't want it to feel like a, you know, a basketball arena.
00:02:42.660 So we put in new sound, new lighting.
00:02:45.280 You know, we keep tweaking it for, you know, sound and everything.
00:02:48.860 Who actually owns it?
00:02:50.700 Do you own the building?
00:02:51.280 We own it now.
00:02:51.920 The church does.
00:02:52.740 The ministry does, yeah.
00:02:53.880 We leased it for—it's a longer story.
00:02:57.140 I'll tell you, sort of.
00:02:58.200 We leased it for 60 years, and then we were able to buy out the lease.
00:03:01.420 The city owned it.
00:03:02.660 So what's funny, Logan, is when—so the city owned it.
00:03:06.200 So when the city council voted for us to have it, and it's a three-year battle, but we got it.
00:03:11.100 When we got it, we got everything in the building.
00:03:14.080 So we got the floor, we got the baskets, we got the goals, we got the popcorn machines because we got it all.
00:03:20.360 We got the banners, Akeem's banners and all that stuff, which, you know, is intriguing to me because I thought, you know, all this iconic stuff.
00:03:27.540 Now, we gave Akeem his banners and stuff, but when we were renovating it, I found confetti under the bleachers from where we won the championships.
00:03:36.380 So it was like a dream that, you know, all those years, you know, as a kid, it was the premier facility.
00:03:43.160 We came to circuses here and everything.
00:03:45.700 So, man, we've got the building.
00:03:47.440 Never dreamed.
00:03:48.480 But, you know, even driving up today, we've been here 20 years, and it's just like, who would have ever thought?
00:03:54.880 Yeah, it's pretty trippy driving by, and you see an arena that says Liquid Church on the outside of it.
00:04:00.260 Is this the most seats or, like, the biggest church in the States, or is there bigger churches?
00:04:05.220 Well, I think technically probably the most seats.
00:04:07.800 There are churches that have more campuses and things.
00:04:10.160 But, yeah, it's an amazing thing.
00:04:13.160 It's part of my story that you don't know where God has taken you.
00:04:18.160 I believe God's plan for our life is bigger than our own.
00:04:21.380 I never dreamed that I'd be a minister, we'd be here getting to sit with you guys,
00:04:25.540 but who knows where God's taking you.
00:04:28.100 It's part of my message is God's put gifts in you.
00:04:31.040 He's put talents that maybe you haven't tapped into yet.
00:04:35.340 20-something years ago, I was running camera, and I was happy doing that.
00:04:39.680 I thought that's what I'd do the rest of my life, but you know what?
00:04:42.340 God had other plans and, you know, I think sometimes he doesn't tell you because you'd
00:04:47.020 be afraid to do it because I never thought I could do any of this.
00:04:50.120 20 years ago, you were running the cameras?
00:04:52.420 Yeah, let's see.
00:04:52.960 It's been, let's see, my dad died in 1999.
00:04:55.200 I know I'm off a little.
00:04:55.740 27 years ago.
00:04:56.720 Okay.
00:04:57.200 So my dad passed.
00:04:58.120 Yeah.
00:04:58.560 So got out of high school in 81, went away to college for a year and I knew I wanted
00:05:04.040 to come back and work with my parents at the church.
00:05:06.340 I love the church.
00:05:07.660 But my thing is, you know, when I was 10, 12, 13, I'd come down on Saturdays and play with the equipment.
00:05:13.800 You know, the church was small, but we'd have some little cameras and I'd mess with them.
00:05:17.180 I loved editing.
00:05:17.980 I loved lighting.
00:05:18.640 I loved all that.
00:05:19.360 And so I went away to college to study television production.
00:05:22.900 Went to Oral Roberts University for a year.
00:05:25.160 You know, Oral was a, you know, I grew up in a preacher's home.
00:05:28.380 And so he was like an icon to us.
00:05:30.240 And he was a friend of my dad.
00:05:31.220 So I went there for a year, but I told my dad, I said, I don't, I don't, college is not for me.
00:05:36.100 I'm ready to come back. I want to, I want to help with the church and start a television ministry.
00:05:39.740 And so he let, my dad let us buy all the equipment that we needed. And I put the church,
00:05:45.220 our local services on the, on the air locally. And so that's what I thought I would do. And my
00:05:50.540 dad was an amazing pastor, an amazing man. I loved working with him. And so life was really,
00:05:55.500 really good. And I thought that I was, you know, I'd done that for 17 years. And really during
00:06:00.260 those 17 years, my dad tried to get me up to, to speak, to like, to minister one service. And I
00:06:04.860 think you know had no desire I thought daddy I'm not a minister I wouldn't know what to say that's
00:06:09.540 not that's not who I am but uh never wanted to do it and you know it's a longer story but I ended
00:06:15.820 up doing it one day I have to uh interrupt you for one second yes normally we do an intro for
00:06:22.220 our guests just realized I have glossed right over it um so I'd love to just just rewind a
00:06:30.860 second and get this intro for you um forewarning pat our pdf guy pdf pat got this from chat gbt
00:06:38.600 you got it our guests typically like them but i'm gonna go ahead and i'm gonna go ahead and hit
00:06:42.960 this okay sure all right today's guest might be the most positive man on planet earth he's the
00:06:48.680 pastor of lakewood church a best-selling author and someone who's built a global audience by
00:06:54.000 preaching faith hope and keeping your mindset right whether you've heard him in church on tv
00:06:57.240 or your mom's Facebook feed.
00:06:58.880 He's one of the most recognizable voices
00:07:00.980 in modern Christianity.
00:07:02.960 Make some noise for Joel Osteen.
00:07:05.920 Yeah.
00:07:06.920 Thank you.
00:07:07.680 Wow, Chachi BG is great.
00:07:09.140 Y'all make me a lot bigger than I am,
00:07:10.740 but thank you.
00:07:11.680 It is Osteen, right?
00:07:12.840 It's Osteen.
00:07:13.820 Mike, you son...
00:07:15.140 Bro, are you kidding me, dog?
00:07:17.180 We had a whole conversation about this, bro.
00:07:18.500 I've never heard it pronounced with the O.
00:07:20.820 I've never heard it pronounced like that.
00:07:22.100 I have to do it again.
00:07:23.040 Everyone's always said Osteen.
00:07:24.480 I feel like it's one of those things,
00:07:26.180 tomato, tomato.
00:07:27.080 I don't think it throws off the show.
00:07:28.660 And you can blame it on chat.
00:07:29.600 I get it all the time.
00:07:31.160 Don't worry.
00:07:31.660 Do you hear Osteen more or Osteen more?
00:07:33.360 I hear Osteen more, and then I hear Olsteen with an L. 0.97
00:07:36.120 Oh, that's ridiculous. 0.85
00:07:36.780 Let me do this one more time. 0.93
00:07:37.640 I'll just hit the last part.
00:07:38.400 Yeah, yeah.
00:07:38.860 Ladies and gentlemen, it's Joel Olsteen.
00:07:41.540 That was a joke.
00:07:42.420 That was just a joke.
00:07:45.040 Ladies and gentlemen, it's Joel Olsteen.
00:07:47.560 Yeah.
00:07:48.760 Thank you.
00:07:50.320 Y'all are too funny.
00:07:51.780 Man, that's just tragic because we had a whole conversation.
00:07:54.520 His mom's a massive fan of you.
00:07:55.980 As you know, Robin flew here from New York just to meet you.
00:07:59.820 Talk about not knowing what God has in store for you.
00:08:02.720 My mom watched you through really dark days of my addiction.
00:08:07.780 I was a heroin addict for 10 years, and she went through a lot, put her through a lot,
00:08:12.420 a lot of really dark days where she didn't know who to turn to, and she turned to you.
00:08:15.580 Wow.
00:08:16.240 And it was during those days that we learned, don't call mom on Sunday morning because she's busy.
00:08:21.920 And it's the only—she's crying again now.
00:08:23.820 it's the only it's the only time of the week where she will not put down what she's doing
00:08:29.260 normally if her boss calls or whatever she said i'm on the phone with my son can't talk right now
00:08:32.860 but when you're on her tv she tells all us she's busy amazing what is it like to have an impact
00:08:39.040 like that on people very very humbled very very honored to just be able to help people that you've
00:08:44.240 never met and you know it's just um what a what a thing i never dreamed i'd be able to do so that's
00:08:50.020 the only way I can describe it. I just feel humbled to get to meet people like that and just
00:08:54.160 give them hope. I found, Mike, everybody's going through something. No matter what they show on
00:09:01.940 the outside, people have challenges and difficulties. And so my goal is to brighten
00:09:06.680 their day, let them know God has a plan and a purpose, and He can give you strength to get
00:09:10.560 through those difficult times. So I feel like that's what I'm called to do. And I kind of stay
00:09:14.860 in my lane of, you know what, somehow I'm going to lift somebody today with this message.
00:09:20.020 So that's what I, that's my goal.
00:09:22.100 Perhaps this is a horrible analogy, but you know, when, uh, yeah, when you're, when you're, um, on a plane, they say to put your, uh, if, if the oxygen masks are deployed, they say put the oxygen mask on yourself before helping others.
00:09:36.360 Do you feel like you've put your own oxygen mask on first because you spend at least a lot of your professional career helping others.
00:09:44.460 But what about you personally?
00:09:46.420 Yeah, it's a great question, Logan.
00:09:47.620 But I feel like I do, and I feel like it's important.
00:09:50.660 I think one of my strengths is focus and discipline.
00:09:54.800 It's just, I think it's natural to me.
00:09:56.800 So I'm real good about staying balanced physically, spiritually, and emotionally
00:10:01.760 because we're a three-part being.
00:10:03.540 And, you know, in a big ministry, a big job like you guys have, there's always problems.
00:10:09.300 There's always things to deal with.
00:10:10.700 But I'm good at focusing, you know, delegating what needs to be dealt with
00:10:15.220 You can work 24 hours a day, but I take time like I worked out this morning.
00:10:20.080 I'll take time to play tennis with Jonathan.
00:10:22.040 I'll take time to laugh and ride bikes with Victoria.
00:10:26.460 I think the recreation part, taking care of your physical body is important because the balance is important to me.
00:10:35.580 And so I'm good at that, at taking care of myself so I can be good on that 30 minutes that I'm up here on the weekends.
00:10:40.800 I know if I'm tired mentally, if I hadn't worked out, or if I'm just bogged down with problems and, you know, legitimate problems, things we need to solve.
00:10:49.060 But you can only, you know, you can only handle so much.
00:10:52.300 You only have so much emotional energy.
00:10:53.920 So I'm good at staying balanced and delegating where I need to.
00:10:57.460 But I think that's where, you know, that's where we can get off in that you can't carry everything.
00:11:04.060 You can't carry all the weight back home.
00:11:05.800 When I go back home, you know, after Sundays, you know, I'm talking with a lot of people, people that have cancer, people that are going through divorce, people that are, you know, like your mom was going through.
00:11:16.060 And you know what?
00:11:16.660 You're pouring all you can into them.
00:11:18.200 But when I go back home, it's like, okay, you know what?
00:11:20.440 I'm going to leave the stress at the door.
00:11:23.080 I'm going to go back into a place of peace, watch some ball games, go for a bike ride.
00:11:28.260 My wife, Victoria, is great because the home's filled with laughter.
00:11:31.960 Victoria loves to laugh and enjoy.
00:11:33.360 And so I think that's one of the keys, Logan, is we've been married 39 years now and doing this for 27 years is we haven't lost that laughter and that joy because life can press you down.
00:11:44.560 And it's like, oh, man, it's so much now.
00:11:46.200 What's going to happen?
00:11:47.000 But I think that's a part of it.
00:11:48.520 But getting back to the question, yeah, you've got to take care of yourself.
00:11:51.500 You know, there's nothing unhealthy or nothing selfish about saying, you know what, I've got to take time for me, y'all.
00:11:57.400 I've got to have a break.
00:11:58.280 And I think that's where sometimes, especially ministers, you know, I'm in a different field, obviously, than y'all, but ministers burn out so fast because there's just, you know, you're dealing with people that have challenges and your heart breaks for them.
00:12:09.160 And, you know, people that are, you know, just we have the big medical center here.
00:12:13.380 And so every week there's got to be a half a dozen people that are facing terminal disease.
00:12:18.260 They're flying in.
00:12:19.360 They say, you know what, we're on last leg.
00:12:20.920 And you know what?
00:12:21.740 And our hearts go out to them.
00:12:22.640 We do everything we can.
00:12:23.760 But I do think you have to keep yourself filled back up.
00:12:27.280 And I'm sorry, I'm doing all the talking.
00:12:28.940 Is that okay?
00:12:29.340 No, you're supposed to be the guest on the show.
00:12:31.380 I feel like I'm doing all the talking.
00:12:32.760 But I think the other thing too, for me, I start off each morning and I'll go out to
00:12:38.600 my office at my house.
00:12:39.680 I start off the day in faith.
00:12:41.960 You know, I like to get up in the morning and just be grateful, find something to be
00:12:45.080 grateful for.
00:12:45.740 Before I read my phone, before I check the news, before I read the problems we've got
00:12:49.740 to deal with.
00:12:50.520 You know what, Lord, I'm grateful that I'm alive today.
00:12:52.480 Thank you for letting me be alive on this day.
00:12:54.280 Thank you for my family.
00:12:55.260 So just get my attitude in the right place.
00:12:58.160 And, you know, and I read the scripture and stuff and, you know, praying and thanking God.
00:13:02.580 But to me, that fills me back up for the, that gets me ready for the day.
00:13:07.900 I don't like to start the day empty or in a hurry or frustrated or just going to deal with this problem.
00:13:14.960 Like, I don't check my phone.
00:13:16.980 Just, you know, just I think it's important for me.
00:13:19.800 Then I get filled up.
00:13:20.540 Then you know what?
00:13:20.960 I'm ready for the day.
00:13:22.300 By the end of the day, I may be depleted, but I'll get up and do it again in the morning.
00:13:25.500 But I think it's an important thing.
00:13:27.660 I always tell people, if you don't set the tone for the day, other things will set it for you.
00:13:32.900 I mean, if you don't make up your mind, you know what?
00:13:34.640 You know, I get up, Lord, I think that I'm alive on April 6th, 2026.
00:13:38.940 I get to come be with you guys.
00:13:40.300 I get to go work out today.
00:13:41.460 I get to do my radio after this.
00:13:43.260 I've got a great day.
00:13:44.060 I don't know.
00:13:45.420 It helps me to stay filled up.
00:13:48.120 And because I know some people, guys, they go to work and they work around negative people.
00:13:53.020 They work around dysfunction.
00:13:54.640 They work around.
00:13:55.240 I always tell them, well, you can't go there and try to just maintain.
00:13:59.080 You got to get filled up before you go.
00:14:01.020 And you get filled up with a good attitude.
00:14:02.800 And I like to make this decision.
00:14:05.060 You know what?
00:14:05.640 I'm going to have a great day today, no matter what happens.
00:14:08.580 You know, you decide ahead of time.
00:14:10.200 Because otherwise, I'm going to have a great day if the traffic's not bad.
00:14:12.860 Or I'm going to have a great day if we have a good interview.
00:14:14.720 I'm going to have a great day if, you know.
00:14:16.640 But you make the decision ahead of time.
00:14:18.780 And then life happens, but I think then you're prepared that, hey, you know what?
00:14:21.920 I can still enjoy this day.
00:14:23.100 I'm alive.
00:14:23.600 I'm healthy.
00:14:24.580 I mean, I've got healthy children.
00:14:25.780 I've got opportunity.
00:14:26.800 And so I try to focus on that.
00:14:29.160 It's a pretty tried and true method, I think, for a lot of successful people to get up and
00:14:33.120 avoid the phone for 30 minutes, fill up on that positivity and that gratitude as a way
00:14:39.540 to really ground yourself in the present as opposed to being constantly distracted by
00:14:43.980 all the atrocities.
00:14:45.740 Yes.

00:15:23.720 One thing I know about you is that you lead with positivity.
00:15:27.840 Yeah.
00:15:28.220 And it's something that the world, something I try to do all the time as well,
00:15:31.420 and it's something that the world needs a lot more of.
00:15:33.600 And you do it in your ministry, and that's brought you some critics
00:15:37.400 and some controversy because, you know, not everything in the Scripture is positive.
00:15:43.560 Yes.
00:15:43.860 And so how do you balance biblical truths, some hard biblical truths, with that positive message?
00:15:50.940 Yeah, it's a great point.
00:15:52.200 And if anybody listens to us is, I talk about the negative times probably as much as the positive times.
00:15:58.340 I just end with the positive, meaning that I wrote a book called Blessed in the Darkness.
00:16:02.620 Some of the biggest times of growth in our life is through the seasons we don't understand, the suffering season.
00:16:09.360 My dad passing away.
00:16:11.360 Oh, my gosh.
00:16:12.020 My dad, my best friend.
00:16:12.820 But that's what launched me into what I'm doing today.
00:16:15.120 So I believe in, I don't believe we're supposed to just suffer to suffer because, hey, I'm
00:16:20.840 a believer and I'm supposed to have a defeated, you know, bad life.
00:16:25.640 I love what the scripture says, count it all joy when you face suffering.
00:16:29.300 So my thing is, okay, man, I'm in a hard time.
00:16:32.080 I'm, you know, maybe your mom, I'm dealing with this son that's off course, but God,
00:16:36.340 I thank you that you're giving me the grace to make it through.
00:16:38.860 It's that positive attitude of faith in the difficult times.
00:16:41.820 And so I don't know, I don't shy away from, you know what, we're all going to face challenges.
00:16:47.960 I don't care if you're a person of faith or how good you are, life's going to happen to us all.
00:16:52.140 But to me, the difference between having faith and not is if I go through this, you know, with your mom, your mom could have got bitter.
00:16:59.720 She could have got angry. She could have given up on life. She could have, you know, all that.
00:17:04.240 But you know what? She turned to her faith and she said, God, give me strength. God, give me peace.
00:17:07.720 I think that's what I'm talking about.
00:17:10.600 So it says we are to suffer, and we are going to have difficult times.
00:17:14.500 But Jesus said, be of good cheer.
00:17:15.780 I've overcome the world.
00:17:16.760 So I go to that side.
00:17:18.060 I go, okay, guys, we're in a tough time, but let's keep moving forward.
00:17:21.220 We're going to get through this.
00:17:22.460 And I just think that going the other route is, okay, you know what?
00:17:27.680 I'm bitter.
00:17:28.440 I'm angry.
00:17:29.280 I don't know why this happened.
00:17:30.380 Scared.
00:17:31.400 Yeah, and then I think it just pulls you back.
00:17:33.580 And it's a negative cycle.
00:17:35.540 If your mind's going to negative, you're drawn in more negative.
00:17:38.700 Verse, okay, I'm in this negative place, but you know what?
00:17:41.460 God, I believe you're still in control.
00:17:42.860 I'm going to put a smile on my face by faith.
00:17:45.120 You know, sometimes you've got to do it.
00:17:46.340 You've just got to smile by faith, and you've just got to walk through that dark season. 0.55
00:17:50.840 I think that that ends up driving more, you know, Gen Zs and people that are coming of age now to Christianity than the flip side of it.
00:17:59.960 I think people want to be empowered by faith and by their, their, uh, relationship with
00:18:07.340 God more so than scared by it or, or threatened by it, you know?
00:18:12.040 I think so.
00:18:12.800 I'm a hundred percent.
00:18:13.680 And then, you know, it's, it's, um, I was raised in this, so I'll probably have an advantage.
00:18:17.500 You know, my dad's a pastor of, you know, there's, there's, you know, there, there's
00:18:21.660 different types for everybody.
00:18:23.000 Some people need to be scared, you know, they scare the hell out of you.
00:18:26.180 You know, that my dad was a little bit different.
00:18:29.040 It was more the goodness of God.
00:18:31.220 You know, why wouldn't we want to serve a God that gives you peace and strength and joy
00:18:34.280 and that can help you through difficult times?
00:18:36.180 So that's what, you know, that's my focus.
00:18:38.960 And other people have other focuses, other ministers, and they're doing great too.
00:18:42.100 It's not just my way, but, you know, there's a scripture that says it's the goodness of
00:18:46.860 God that leads to repentance.
00:18:48.360 And that's what I feel like I'm called to share, that when I let people know God's got
00:18:53.100 a purpose for their life, that you haven't made too many mistakes, you haven't got too
00:18:57.120 far off course and you're not too addicted that you can still become who you're created to be.
00:19:02.040 I believe that draws people because really 50% of the people that listen to me, they've never been
00:19:07.040 to church. They weren't raised like me, but that was my whole goal. You know, when my, when my dad
00:19:12.780 passed, I thought, I don't want to just, I don't want to just talk to my church friends because
00:19:16.080 they, they know the Lord and they, you know, I want to reach, reach out to people that, that
00:19:20.500 didn't know him. You know? I love, I love that about what you do. You're a bit of an expansionist
00:19:25.360 in that way yeah even just yesterday easter i uh logged on to youtube and i and i watched
00:19:31.600 preach live for a little bit yeah and it looked great it was a great live production you had he
00:19:35.900 had 8k concurrence which is like in streamer land is like formidable it's a very good audience yeah
00:19:40.960 and and you know i'm you got a higher a clipper clipper army working for you i don't know what
00:19:47.220 that is something to think about yeah basically it's a group of people that go and they they
00:19:52.680 clip your content, your long-form
00:19:54.900 content, based on things that they think
00:19:56.880 will go viral on TikTok and Instagram
00:19:58.840 Reels, and it expands your reach.
00:20:00.860 It's something we can talk to you about after the show.
00:20:02.800 I feel like I could see some Joel Osteen clips on
00:20:04.800 Fearedbook. Potentially, or maybe
00:20:06.880 even Scuba Ryan. Scuba Steve.
00:20:08.820 Scuba Steve, yeah.
00:20:10.320 I think it might be Scuba Ryan. Scuba Steve's from
00:20:12.860 Billy Matt.
00:20:14.500 No, from, no. Big guy, Spongebob?
00:20:16.720 Big Daddy, Big Daddy. Scuba Steve!
00:20:18.920 Anyways, something to say about that.
00:20:20.400 you've you've uh blent i'll go ahead and say the the word blent you've blent uh it has lent in it
00:20:28.320 so it's almost christian like a christian thing which just ended blended like this traditional
00:20:34.700 world uh in in this mod in this new age world um and in a in a really cool way even just looking
00:20:42.180 around here everything's like really technologically savvy like the screens the lighting the everything
00:20:47.620 And so like, yeah, it was, it was when, when you started preaching, when did you make that
00:20:53.000 decision of like, I don't want to just touch the audience that, um, is regularly here.
00:20:59.260 Yeah. It was Logan. It was, it was, it was when my dad died and it was when I first stepped up.
00:21:03.820 That was just, it was always in me, even from my dad. When I came back to help my father,
00:21:08.340 that's, that's why we put it on television again, to get past the four walls of our church. So I
00:21:12.760 I think it was in me.
00:21:14.700 And I think, too, the 17 years of production,
00:21:18.880 it really played into my communication skill today and my ability
00:21:23.180 because we took this building from a basketball arena,
00:21:26.100 and, you know, I thought just little things.
00:21:27.900 I thought I don't want a choir behind me in my close-up camera
00:21:31.720 because, you know, sometimes they can be daydreaming or all that.
00:21:34.760 I want to see people.
00:21:35.460 I want something that looks like the Grammys.
00:21:36.880 I said, let's do it.
00:21:38.340 And I was smart in this, I think.
00:21:40.860 I hired people a lot smarter than I am.
00:21:43.560 I mean, one thing I've learned is I hire the best people.
00:21:45.820 And so I'd hire the consultant that did a lot of Grammys,
00:21:48.440 and he designed all the stage.
00:21:49.820 And some of these, you know, you've got great people too.
00:21:52.060 But I don't know.
00:21:52.880 I think it's just, to me, I don't want somebody to turn me off
00:21:57.180 because your lighting's not right or you look subpar.
00:22:01.540 You know, we got enough.
00:22:02.560 I mean, I'm a pastor on television. 0.93
00:22:04.440 I already got 90% of the people are saying, you know, you're a fraud. 0.93
00:22:09.160 You're a this. 0.96
00:22:09.620 You know what I mean?
00:22:10.100 in general, coming out of some of those days of television pastor. So my thing was, I want it to
00:22:15.860 look good. I want it to sound right. I don't want anything to turn us off, turn people off.
00:22:21.620 Why do you think you would receive that criticism?
00:22:26.240 I think when, you know, I'm going back, I'm older than you, but there was just some television
00:22:31.780 ministries that didn't all pan out. And so it kind of, we all get grouped into one big thing.
00:22:37.420 OK, you're a guy on television. All you want is money or all you want.
00:22:41.240 So there's some of that kind of thing. I think that world is changing.
00:22:44.640 I think, you know, we've been doing it for 27 years and I get good audience and have a lot of, you know, favor, I guess you'd say.
00:22:51.420 But I do think I go into that knowing that, you know, people are skeptical.
00:22:55.760 What do you want from me? Why are you on the air?
00:22:57.900 But I just think, you know, I think the look and all that plays a part into the professionalism.
00:23:06.640 Even, you know, even when I stand up here and that reverse camera, if you saw it yesterday, you know, there's 15,000 people.
00:23:13.480 It instantly gives you credibility.
00:23:15.620 Whether somebody likes you or not, they think, well, this guy has something.
00:23:18.520 So, you know, my goal is somebody that's never watched or never been raised in this.
00:23:23.120 Well, they give me 30 seconds to hear something that maybe makes sense.
00:23:26.960 And a lot of my messages, I'm a little different than my father and maybe even a traditional pastor.
00:23:33.280 Because I want somebody to leave every week when they leave.
00:23:36.560 I want them to know, have one thing that they can use that day.
00:23:39.720 One thing that's practical, really, how do, you know, we got all the scriptures, but how
00:23:43.720 do we live life?
00:23:44.800 You know, and that's always my goal is to say, you know what, I might take just a part
00:23:50.100 of a scripture.
00:23:50.780 I mean, yesterday I was talking about, you know, Thomas doubted, you know, and, but yet,
00:23:56.000 you know, my point was God came to him when he, Jesus raised from the dead, he came to
00:24:00.740 Thomas.
00:24:01.140 He didn't go to all the believers.
00:24:02.320 He went to the doubter and God comes to you in your doubt.
00:24:05.240 when you have questions, when you don't understand.
00:24:08.600 And Thomas ended up going further than all the other disciples.
00:24:11.760 And so my point yesterday, man, leave knowing that God is for you,
00:24:15.660 even when you have doubts and failures and you've made mistakes,
00:24:18.380 that He's still for you.
00:24:19.620 And that was my Easter.
00:24:21.140 So I don't know.
00:24:21.820 I guess my point is I just want to leave somebody every week.
00:24:25.400 How is the Bible practical in my life?
00:24:28.320 How do I forgive?
00:24:29.240 How do I keep a good attitude?
00:24:30.680 How do I go through a tough time when my son's off course?
00:24:32.980 And how do I reach my dreams?
00:24:35.240 that's a big one too. And, you know, I get, I get hit for that, but I believe God wants us to dream
00:24:39.740 big and to impact the culture. I mean, you guys are doing that. And it's just, I believe God's
00:24:45.100 put big things in us. And, and some things like, like, you know, like when I, when I started Logan,
00:24:50.220 I thought, you know, my natural, you know, in my mind, you know, I thought my dad, this great
00:24:56.240 pastor, he'd been pastoring for 40 years. He went to seminary. I'd never, I'd never passed. I'd never
00:25:01.680 spoken in public. I'd never been to seminary, but yet I stepped up to pastor. And in my mind,
00:25:06.780 it said, Joel, you're not qualified. You're too shy. You're not as dynamic as your father. You
00:25:11.700 don't have that big voice. You don't know the Bible. All those things were just playing in my
00:25:16.220 mind, you know, 24 hours a day. And man, I had to, I had to, you know, take control of that and say,
00:25:22.040 you know what? No, I believe I'm who God says I am, that I'm equipped, that I'm empowered,
00:25:25.800 that I'm raised up to do this. And I believe that battle takes place here in our mind to,
00:25:31.200 you know, to step into the dreams that God has for us. Because, you know, I talk to people,
00:25:36.080 you know, there's a lot of self-doubt. You know, there's a lot of stuff that comes against us.
00:25:41.340 You know, I'm not attractive enough. I'm not talented enough. I'm not big enough. I'm not,
00:25:46.140 you know, you got to tune that out because I believe every person has what they need to
00:25:51.460 fulfill their purpose. You know, God's put in each one of us. And I can't be like my dad.
00:25:55.440 My dad was a better preacher than me. He was more fiery. But you know what? God gave me a gift of,
00:26:00.820 you know, I'm more easygoing. I'm more talking about life, but, you know, I don't say this
00:26:06.120 bragging on me, but, you know, I've expanded it many, many, God's expanded it and helped us to
00:26:10.400 expand many times for what my, what my father saw. What would you, what would you say to somebody
00:26:15.980 drawing from your own experience is the, is the tactical way out of that self-doubt?
00:26:22.080 Yeah, it's a great question. It's, I think it's a, it's a process that you just have to,
00:26:27.200 you know, day by day, almost thought by thought, I think first off, you have to identify it.
00:26:33.760 We all have an inner dialogue. We're always talking to ourselves. And I found that many
00:26:38.920 people don't realize their dialogue is negative. They don't realize that it's just, you know,
00:26:43.460 and I'm not as smart as my sister and I'm not that talented. And, you know, you can do that
00:26:47.420 because you've got all this, you know, gifts. We tend to put ourselves down. I don't think we know
00:26:51.580 it. I think the first thing is to think about what you're thinking about because you talk to
00:26:56.480 yourself more than you talk to anybody else. And I really believe you believe yourself more than
00:27:03.020 you believe what others say. Even if somebody's criticized, I still think you come back. And
00:27:06.940 I like this thought, you have enough people in life against you. Don't be against yourself.
00:27:13.520 Don't have that recording. I mean, when I would get up on Sunday morning, I would have to force
00:27:19.680 myself to say, Joel, just turn it around. You're equipped. You're well-abled. These people like
00:27:25.600 you. You're going to do good. Everybody's here to listen. Because my other thought was, nobody
00:27:29.680 wants to hear you. You're not trained. You're not like your dad. So I just had to, it's just,
00:27:34.340 it's a process of turning it off. I think it's just, if you can identify it and then,
00:27:39.260 you know what? I have this, we say at every service, I have this, you know, this phrase
00:27:43.900 that we say, and it's just what I, what I say, this is what God says. It's I'm blessed. I'm
00:27:48.060 prosperous. I'm redeemed. I'm forgiven. I'm talented. I'm creative. I'm disciplined. I'm
00:27:53.400 focused. I'm prepared. I'm qualified. I'm motivated. I'm valuable. I'm free. I'm equipped.
00:28:00.300 I'm empowered. I'm anointed. I'm not average. I'm not mediocre. I'm a child of the most high God.
00:28:05.800 I will become all he's created me to be. We say that every service. I have people say that.
00:28:11.520 And it's not just being positive. It's getting in agreement to me with who God says you are.
00:28:17.800 Otherwise, you know, I don't know. Life can push us down. I think that the flip side of this,
00:28:22.640 slogan is people say, well, I'm not all those things. I'm just, but I believe as you continue
00:28:27.020 to say it, you're inviting it into your life. I was just about to say, cause a lot of the
00:28:31.100 adjectives that you're saying are like really powerful, like multidisciplinary life altering
00:28:37.140 characteristics that people can have. And that aren't always easy. I mean, discipline, motivated,
00:28:42.080 like some people, some people, I think generally like can lack those things. But if you're saying
00:28:50.200 it over and over and over. Yeah. You're literally manifesting it. Like I'm a big believer in
00:28:56.040 manifestation and just vocalizing your, your desires or your beliefs about yourself into
00:29:02.200 existence. Um, and so I do agree. And I love that you say that every day because eventually you're
00:29:08.060 going to find that, Oh, I maybe, maybe I check off actually a majority of that list. I love that

00:30:48.760 And how nice they were, or if we tipped them or not. Come and find out.
00:30:53.100 Sometimes we'll talk about that weird news story from last week.
00:30:56.400 It's the one you're thinking about. Trust me.
00:30:58.700 Or maybe we'll talk about music and what's happening in the underground,
00:31:01.840 or drama and music, or TV shows, or the Met Gala and what the actors wore.

00:31:38.680 and all the nitty-gritty stuff we all think about,
00:31:41.140 but just don't say out loud.
00:31:42.100 I hate that job.
00:31:43.140 You're probably just going to meet with some rich guy,
00:31:44.760 and he's going to whisk you away, and I'll never see you again.
00:31:48.320 Well, this is awesome.
00:31:50.020 Would you say a D-list actor?
00:31:51.820 D?
00:31:53.820 I don't even know.
00:31:54.600 There's such a thing as D.
00:31:55.640 No, no, no.
00:31:56.280 I mean, like—
00:31:56.680 I can't even get on the C-list?
00:31:57.720 Like, I'm not even average?
00:31:58.580 I'm not even passing?
00:31:59.560 I'm failing?
00:32:00.360 Listen to No Safe Words with October and Tony Gonzalez,
00:32:03.060 part of My Cultura Podcast Network,
00:32:05.760 available on the iHeartRadio app,
00:32:07.880 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
00:32:10.700 It is so important. You can't talk defeat and live negative, and you can't talk against yourself.
00:32:17.020 It's going back into you, and I believe those words are powerful, and it's just what you're
00:32:22.240 saying. As you continue to say it, you're going to get more disciplined. You're going to get more
00:32:27.840 focused. I see people that are fighting sicknesses. Well, he's over it now, but I have a friend that
00:32:35.160 was fighting cancer. He wouldn't let us use the word cancer around him. He said, don't say that
00:32:39.460 word. Don't say that word. He said, just, you know, say, and I thought, and I teach to people
00:32:44.500 to, you know, don't say my addiction or my diabetes or my heart trouble. Don't, don't,
00:32:50.080 don't take ownership of it. You know, it's just a, man, see yourself as a, as a healthy person
00:32:56.200 fighting off sickness, not a sick person trying to get well, just that thing. But I speak a lot
00:33:02.360 on the power of our words and my dad was good on that, but it's just, it's really important.
00:33:06.880 And that helped me to, you know, I'd look, I'd get in front of a mirror when my dad died, never preached before.
00:33:13.920 And I'm going to stand up in front of 6,000 people on a Sunday morning and I can't sleep at night.
00:33:18.200 And I'm so nervous and I have to hold the podium, but I'd have to go look in the mirror and say, Joel, you're strong.
00:33:23.500 You're equipped. You're empowered. And I know it sounds weird, but man, I say this, if you don't talk to yourself, you know, somebody else will talk to you.
00:33:31.640 Your self will talk to you. Your own thoughts will talk to you.
00:33:34.540 So I think you have to get control of that.
00:33:37.180 And, you know, I know people can take the wrong.
00:33:39.320 I'm not saying in a weird way, like, hey, I'm going to be the president or I'm going
00:33:42.720 to be on WWE.
00:33:43.720 I don't mean that.
00:33:44.380 I mean, but, you know, what are the dreams God's put in your heart?
00:33:48.000 You know, don't go around saying, I can't ever become a minister.
00:33:52.520 I can't ever start my own business or, you know, even these things.
00:33:56.600 I'll never be able to afford that.
00:33:58.960 You're speaking defeat over your life.
00:34:01.000 Maybe.
00:34:01.260 How about this?
00:34:01.720 I can't afford it right now, but maybe one day I can.
00:34:04.540 or my child's never going to get well.
00:34:07.100 I mean, he's so far off course.
00:34:08.780 You're speaking defeat.
00:34:10.020 Don't speak defeat.
00:34:10.960 Speak life and speak victory.
00:34:12.300 Even if it's, hey, Mike's off course right now,
00:34:14.420 but I know, you know what?
00:34:15.280 God's working.
00:34:16.100 God's doing things in his life.
00:34:17.860 But I don't know.
00:34:19.140 And some people say it's just positive,
00:34:20.780 but I believe it's different than that.
00:34:22.260 It's speaking life and faith and victory into your future.
00:34:25.320 And so it's a big part of who we are
00:34:27.360 and a big part of what Lakewood's all about.
00:34:29.480 I love that.
00:34:30.100 That's, it's such a great message.
00:34:31.400 Him and his brother are like two testaments
00:34:33.320 to manifestation i have never been very good at it but i saw a neuroscientist i watched a video
00:34:39.920 last week that said the brain acts like a social media algorithm and the more you feed it or or
00:34:46.680 or like and get a dopamine burst out of it and feed into that negative i can't i can't i can't
00:34:53.280 it serves you more of it yeah and i think the problem that a lot of people have when he brought
00:34:57.520 up discipline is the the process that you're talking about in changing over to more positive
00:35:02.080 self-speak is unfortunately a little bit of work yeah it's a little bit of work but it's work that
00:35:08.860 can go further than any other work that you could ever do in your life because it can lead you to
00:35:13.040 such incredible places so it's just really getting over that hump yeah that's so good mike i heard
00:35:19.000 this saying too the pain of discipline is less than the pain of regret so to me there's going to
00:35:26.260 be pain either way pained you know there's going to be pain of discipline getting up doing what i
00:35:31.040 know I'm supposed to do, working hard, being nice to somebody that's not nice to me, doing the right
00:35:36.200 thing when the wrong thing's happening, that's discipline too. But, you know, the pain of regret
00:35:41.680 is I didn't go after my dreams or I have a lousy relationship or I don't like myself. And so
00:35:47.000 I think it's, you know, we're not, I'm not saying any of this is easy and it didn't happen without,
00:35:52.300 you know, you know, work and long nights and all that. Y'all, you guys know about that. But
00:35:58.440 I just think when you tap into that discipline, doing the right thing when it's hard, the payoff's so much better.
00:36:05.800 Because, like I said, there's going to be pain the other way of just, you know what, I'm not who I'm supposed to be.
00:36:11.520 So we talked a little bit right there about self-doubt, but I want to ask you a question about bringing it back to God.
00:36:19.000 Was there ever a time in your life where you had doubt in your relationship with God?
00:36:24.280 You know, Mike, that sounds weird, but really not for me.
00:36:28.720 I grew up in this home with my parents, and they were very loving.
00:36:32.180 And I saw my parents on the platform.
00:36:34.640 They were the same at home as they were here.
00:36:36.440 My dad was for the underdog.
00:36:37.720 He loved people.
00:36:38.780 And so I saw God is good, and I've seen God bring me through things.
00:36:44.640 I've never had that doubt in my own life.
00:36:46.800 And I know a lot of people have a doubt of God, but I really haven't.
00:36:50.380 And I just can only speak for me, but I know people that, you know, don't see it like me, but I never have.
00:36:58.760 What about doubt in your own ability to follow God's word?
00:37:02.460 Yeah.
00:37:02.880 Like, do you drink?
00:37:05.100 I don't drink, no.
00:37:06.340 Do you eat way too much food on Thanksgiving?
00:37:10.300 I do some stuff, yes.
00:37:11.800 Like, is that gluttony?
00:37:13.140 Yeah.
00:37:13.800 Well, I never really think of it like that.
00:37:17.620 I don't know.
00:37:18.580 But, you know, I think, Logan, you're asking of, hey, we all have struggles.
00:37:23.940 And, yeah, I don't all get it all right, you know.
00:37:26.780 So there is times I obviously don't measure up and things.
00:37:32.000 But, you know, I don't know.
00:37:35.860 Like we had Cliff Koneckley on here.
00:37:37.500 Yeah, yeah.
00:37:37.960 Him and his son, Stuart, they're great.
00:37:40.720 Very well known.
00:37:42.180 Amazing.
00:37:42.720 Yeah, yeah.
00:37:43.320 and uh man he he he like sat well not where you're sitting but in the same seat uh respectively to 0.95
00:37:49.540 where we were at the time of course um and he said he kept saying you know i'm a dirty rotten sinner
00:37:54.260 that's that's why part of the reason you know why i'm a christian because i know my god will forgive
00:37:58.480 me and i ask him for forgiveness and i just i kept thinking of those words and maybe i took
00:38:04.260 them too literally but he kept saying like you know he is someone who sins yes and um he prays
00:38:09.740 for forgiveness and god forgives him do you do you do you find yourself in a boat where yeah like
00:38:16.320 maybe maybe you aren't always a hundred percent abiding uh by the ten commandments and yeah
00:38:26.040 logan i i do but i don't dwell on it much and i don't mean to sound self-righteous or like i'm
00:38:31.480 perfect because i'm not but my mind goes into i get up in the morning and say try to search my
00:38:37.620 heart, God, am I doing the right thing? Am I doing it for the right reason? Am I doing it for the
00:38:41.380 ego? But when I can come back to that place of peace to say, okay, I believe I'm doing the right
00:38:46.300 thing. Now I make mistakes and you've got your wrong thoughts and all that stuff. But I come
00:38:51.320 back to that place of peace and trust. I don't live from a place of a dirty, rotten sinner. And 0.99
00:38:57.220 I love Cliff and they're amazing, but I don't live from that place. I live from a place that
00:39:01.400 God has made me righteous. It wasn't what I did. It's what Jesus did on the cross. And so
00:39:06.280 I just live from a righteous standpoint than the other.
00:39:12.000 And I don't mean that I'm not born into sin and all that as well, but I don't know.
00:39:15.960 I just, I see it a little, I don't think for me, not talking about any others,
00:39:20.420 I don't think it's helpful to just say, I'm no good, I'm unworthy, don't measure up.
00:39:28.020 Well, none of us did, but when Jesus came, He made us worthy.
00:39:32.100 I've accepted His forgiveness.
00:39:33.360 I still make mistakes and ask for forgiveness, but I live from a God is pleased with me mentality.
00:39:39.280 And I don't mean that arrogant and I don't mean I'm perfect, but I think that helps me to know that otherwise, you know what, I just, I don't know.
00:39:47.560 To me, otherwise it just pushes you down and makes you do worse.
00:39:50.720 It doesn't seem like there's an exact science to how to be the perfect Christian, which is kind of where it's a little interesting.
00:39:57.780 and i guess the reason i'm harping on that so much is because i think there's humanity
00:40:01.880 like a lot a lot of humanity in people admitting that they they aren't perfect and that far from
00:40:08.520 it yes um i think by the way that's cliff's ultimate point i think he's this is my opinion
00:40:13.000 i think he's probably exaggerating a little bit to make people realize it's okay to not
00:40:17.340 not be 100 100 right all the time yes um but you know yeah like i think uh i think i think
00:40:27.580 i think his ability to relay that message is obviously effective in its own way and i think
00:40:33.480 i think a lot of people watch him and listen to him and um his son and hear the message differently
00:40:40.580 but ultimately i think the principles are the same which which is something i really like about
00:40:44.900 everything you're saying today because even before he asked about god it's it's the things you're
00:40:49.680 saying like the principles make so much sense you know like even just remove god from the equation
00:40:54.620 for a second what what you're saying is logically uh makes sense yes yes well you know there's
00:41:02.260 there's different routes for people that need different things and i watch clip on the campuses
00:41:06.440 and stuff and he's they're amazing and phenomenal it's just this is what i feel like god's given me
00:41:11.020 but it's it is a big part of it logan is not we're not here because we're perfect i wouldn't be on
00:41:18.360 this platform or anything. We all have things we need to improve in. My thing is, am I better this
00:41:25.600 year than I was five years ago? Am I growing? Am I forgiving more? Am I less judgmental?
00:41:30.640 Am I better in my relationships? I think that's a big part of it, but not beating myself up just
00:41:36.960 every day saying, you know what, I'm just this lousy sinner and I can't do anything right. I
00:41:41.020 just come from a different point of view. Gen Z is showing renewed interest in Christianity.
00:41:46.300 Yeah. Do you think it's partially because of social media, the ability to distribute your content in meaningful ways across different mediums?
00:41:54.960 Or do you think there's something else? Like, why do you think Gen Z is so interested in Christianity all of a sudden?
00:41:59.840 You know, I don't know if I have all the answers. I just think people are hungry for more.
00:42:04.300 I think they feel like there's something missing. It may be. I'm sure it's a part of that, too.
00:42:07.720 I think all that's going on in the world and, you know, you guys know more than me, but some, you know, social media, some of this, you're not fulfilled just, you know, rising higher, competing or comparing and all that, that leaves you empty.
00:42:25.060 And I think there's that void in every person that only God can fill.
00:42:28.860 And, you know, I think that's a big part of it is just that I think they're realizing that, you know what, you can't compete on social media.
00:42:36.580 Everybody's seeing you're always one up.
00:42:38.760 There's always a better pastor than there's always something.
00:42:40.980 And so I think that's part of it and just what's going on in the world.
00:42:45.340 I think Gen Z, they see the, you know, they can see through.
00:42:50.380 They're authentic and they want to, I think, you know, find God for themselves.

00:45:19.760 on ipads and by the time they're like of age to start uh dictating their own usage they're pushing
00:45:24.760 it away they're saying we we actually don't think this is good for us a lot of a lot of them are
00:45:29.320 doing it with alcohol a lot of them are doing it with the with the things that you know our
00:45:33.560 generations were exploring because the people before us were telling them that they us that
00:45:39.780 they were bad and they weren't good and they didn't do them so then and you get this like
00:45:43.540 pendulum effect yeah you know where each generation kind of acts a little bit differently than the one
00:45:48.340 before it but they are definitely coming back to church in a meaningful way i think they're
00:45:53.340 currently in church more than boomers boomers are there like 1.4x monthly on average and and
00:46:00.100 gen z's there 2x so and i think you're doing a great job of meeting them where they are you
00:46:04.760 know but we got to get the clippers going for you yeah it's really good we got to get you the
00:46:09.160 clip y'all gotta help me yeah i'm gonna help me can we can we go back because i want to i want
00:46:13.360 to address this because we are gonna there's gonna be some controversy here where are the
00:46:20.020 bentleys the yachts and the jets i because i this is a big place i don't know if there's a garage
00:46:25.440 somewhere or some sort of parking spot for the boats would you be down to take me to ride
00:46:30.740 yeah yeah g650 yeah that's right in my fleet of cars no you know what people people like to
00:46:37.500 people like to make up stuff but i've never had a i'm never i don't think i've ever sat in a ferrari
00:46:42.180 And they show me pictures of me driving Ferraris and fleets of cars.
00:46:45.880 And Joel's got his yachts and jets and stuff.
00:46:48.460 But I never respond to it.
00:46:50.240 I don't do it.
00:46:51.300 Wait, so you have no yachts?
00:46:52.740 I have no yachts.
00:46:53.620 Wait, wait.
00:46:54.420 I have no jets.
00:46:55.420 I have no cars.
00:46:55.640 You don't even have one jet.
00:46:56.960 I don't have one jet.
00:46:57.820 I've never owned a jet.
00:46:58.740 I've never owned a yacht or, you know, a fleet of cars.
00:47:02.560 So let's talk through it.
00:47:04.440 The ministry here, the church has its value.
00:47:09.100 It obviously has a ton of people that come in and make donations.
00:47:11.540 and there's donations digitally from the outside.
00:47:14.340 You don't take a salary from the church.
00:47:16.740 I don't take a salary from the church.
00:47:18.240 I've been blessed with book sales and media and other things.
00:47:22.240 So I don't have to take a salary.
00:47:23.400 So I can work here for basically no salary.
00:47:26.280 And I haven't for most of the time, the 26 years here or so.
00:47:30.660 But, you know, people like to think it's all about money and things like that.
00:47:35.660 But I'm the ones that want to try to discredit you.
00:47:37.740 But it's no, never taken a salary.
00:47:39.700 god's blessed me i mean logan i wrote my first book my dad my dad would write books you know
00:47:45.640 and he'd sell 10 000 copies and that was great you know yeah well i wrote my first book and
00:47:50.220 my publisher called me and said they're going to publish 250 000 copies i told my wife victoria
00:47:55.320 i said they're crazy you know i was this was 21 years ago i said they're crazy they're going to
00:48:00.060 publish 250 my dad sold 10 000 well that sold out my first book sold 10 million copies that's
00:48:05.960 insane. I couldn't make that happen. How? I guess it just caught on. I was on TV and stuff,
00:48:14.680 and some of this I can't explain. I can't explain. It's the sovereignty of God. I think I'm reaping
00:48:21.520 seeds that my parents have sown, but I couldn't make that up. It was on the best sales list for
00:48:26.340 two years. I couldn't make that up. That's crazy. It's just things happening that, well, you know
00:48:31.800 what i get paid for my book sales and this is from walmart and target and then i've written
00:48:35.680 others and i've got i'm on serious radio and there's there's so so i'm blessed in outside
00:48:40.400 areas of the church none of the donations come to me and and i feel what what greater thing can i
00:48:46.820 feel to think that i can i can work here and i don't have to take a salary and god's blessed
00:48:50.400 me in other ways and so you know i make good investments i love real estate i love doing
00:48:54.780 things but it has nothing to do with uh but i'm not exorbitant in these you know i don't like that
00:48:59.960 of course, I don't like when people say you're just doing it for the money and you've got these
00:49:03.400 fleets of cars. And if somebody wants fast, fun cars, that's fine too. There's nothing wrong with
00:49:07.960 it. It's just not me. Do you, do you, two things. One, does it make you angry when people tell
00:49:15.120 those stories or did it make you angry? And maybe you're a little bit more peaceful with it now. And
00:49:19.140 two, does it somewhat dictate the purchases that you actually do make? Like, do you, is there
00:49:25.140 something that you've ever really wanted? Like say you wanted to buy a T-Rex head, for example,
00:49:29.020 or a really expensive Pokemon card and you didn't do it because you were worried about what people
00:49:34.840 might say? I can't think of anything off. I'm sure I'm sure that the answer would be yes. I don't
00:49:40.140 know anything right offhand, but the answer, of course, would be yes. You know, it's just but
00:49:44.400 does it make me angry? You know what? I don't really I don't pay attention to it. My attitude
00:49:50.680 is life is too short. This is a good day to be alive because, you know, you guys know you put
00:49:55.920 out that one fire and there'll be five more fires. And if you go down that road, and I have to tell
00:50:00.540 my team, because, you know, I have a team that helps me. And I say, guys, quit. You don't have
00:50:05.200 to defend me. You know, they want to defend me. They want to fight for me. They're not as nice
00:50:08.620 as I am. But, you know, it's just, I always say this, you only have so much emotional energy each
00:50:15.120 day. It takes a lot of emotional energy to be angry or to be offended or to be guilty, to be
00:50:21.200 mad at yourself. And I want to use my energy for good things, to do good on this interview,
00:50:25.880 to have fun with my kids today, to enjoy my life. And so I have to say, I'm not perfect. I don't
00:50:33.520 like it, but I don't think it makes me angry. I think what I've learned, Mike, is I've been
00:50:40.560 doing it 27 years and I've had a lot of critics. I have probably more than anybody in the Christian
00:50:46.680 world because just, you know, they try to, oh, it's success and it's all this. But I know what 0.78
00:50:51.820 we're doing is helping people and doing the right thing. But in 27 years, it's never stopped me.
00:50:56.680 And I've had, you know, I've done 60 minutes. I've done all the, you know, the big, big things,
00:51:01.100 news and all that. And we have nothing to hide. We're here to help people, to give them hope and
00:51:06.380 help people like your mom. And, you know, there's so much negativity in the world and hatefulness
00:51:11.320 and divisiveness. We're here to bring hope and let you know you can get through these tough
00:51:16.420 times, but I think there are people, I mean, Logan, you know, there's, there are people that,
00:51:20.820 that they want to discredit you. They want to misunderstand you. They don't, maybe they don't
00:51:25.780 want you to succeed, but I I've learned it. I don't give that my energy. Uh, I let it go. I'm
00:51:31.880 good at letting it go. Maybe that's one of my strong traits, but, but I don't like it. Cause
00:51:37.220 I have, you know, I have people come up and they'll ask about things and not even in a bad sense,
00:51:41.540 but I think, well, guys, I don't, I don't own all those cars. You know, what's it like? I don't
00:51:44.880 i'm not i'm not a preacher so like when that like the haters let's call them for like an easy word
00:51:51.600 uh i i i don't really bother um but is there a rationale in thinking that they're actually the
00:52:00.360 ones who do need your energy because why why would you why why hate on someone why try to
00:52:06.520 bring someone else down or criticize someone else if you're feeling adequate about your life and if
00:52:12.820 you're feeling inadequate about your life aren't aren't you a person who probably actually does
00:52:16.820 need to hear what you're saying no that's a it's great reasoning it really is and i i think that's
00:52:22.560 what it is you know unfortunately a lot of times people that and i think there's valid criticism i
00:52:27.720 don't mean that's for sure i listen to the good ones but i'm talking about people that just don't
00:52:31.220 like you because you got a big church or don't like you because you're you know successful that's
00:52:35.100 different so i think is you know there's there's they don't what i think is they don't feel good
00:52:40.420 about themselves and so they're gonna try to take it out on somebody else that's saying that i think
00:52:45.540 they got to come here but also i think i think like in a way it's like those are the people you
00:52:50.020 want to you want to you want to touch like you said it earlier like jesus rose and went to the
00:52:54.420 non-believer i know well that's the thing and i talk a lot about these subjects of of you know
00:53:00.200 being good to those weren't good to you you know the scripture even says if you'll you know i'll
00:53:05.160 paraphrase if you honor god he'll be in first you he'll cause you even your enemies to be at peace
00:53:09.320 with you. And I meet people every week. I meet people after the service for an hour or two.
00:53:13.860 And there's always one or two that says, man, I was your biggest critic. But now I understand what
00:53:18.920 you do. And so I just try to, I like to live by that, you know, I keep giving you all these
00:53:24.520 analogies. I like to live by that eagle. I've taught about how, you know, an eagle, a crow
00:53:31.080 will try to pester an eagle, but the eagle never fights with the crow. The eagle just flies higher
00:53:36.180 because a crow can't fly at the heights that the eagle flies at.
00:53:40.320 And I love that thought of just, you know what,
00:53:42.700 we are going to have some crows in our lives and some chickens,
00:53:45.460 and people don't understand,
00:53:46.420 but you're not supposed to be fighting those battles with crows
00:53:49.260 and trying to just rise higher.
00:53:51.360 I've learned, you know, you see it in the Scriptures, you know,
00:53:54.040 Joseph was good to his brothers when they had betrayed him
00:53:56.960 and sold him into slavery. 0.94
00:53:58.560 But 13 years later, he invited him to come live in Egypt
00:54:02.240 and gave him, you know what,
00:54:03.780 when you can be good to people that are not good to you,
00:54:05.980 when you can rise above it, that's a, that's a, that's a strong character. And I believe that
00:54:10.560 that's when God can trust you with more because it's easy, you know, to use your power to push
00:54:15.960 them down. Cause you got, you know, may have more power and more influence, but I've just learned
00:54:19.940 be good to people. And, and when they don't understand me, I think, okay, maybe you're
00:54:24.800 right. And maybe I'm wrong. I don't know, but you know, well, we don't have to be enemies or
00:54:28.500 hateful with each other, but I'm just going to continue doing what I'm doing and not let that
00:54:32.960 get on the inside. Because the other thing too, and again, I come from the world of church and
00:54:38.200 pastors. I've seen pastor friends, this is years back, but I'd see them up speaking. Maybe I hear
00:54:44.400 their message on YouTube or something. And I know them because they're friends of mine. I think,
00:54:48.880 okay, you're speaking to the critics. You're mad. You're talking to your congregation. Everybody in 0.94
00:54:54.780 your congregation loves you, but you're talking to the critics and you're mad and you're defensive.
00:54:59.220 And you know what it does, Logan?
00:55:00.620 It starts to change you because you think, okay, I'm going to, I'm going to, I got to
00:55:04.020 address this issue in the pulpit.
00:55:05.680 Even, even if it's subtly.
00:55:07.400 And I think that's, that's important that if you start, and this is not just churches,
00:55:11.620 but if, if, you know, if you start taking on that criticism and think, well, I'm going
00:55:15.900 to prove to you that I'm not who you say I am, then all of a sudden it's changing who
00:55:19.900 you are.
00:55:20.760 You're, you're defensive and I got to do this.
00:55:23.080 And man, that's, that's letting them control you.
00:55:26.140 You know, that's, that's giving away your power.
00:55:28.040 And I think it's it's it's a strong, you know, powerful thing to say, you know what?
00:55:33.600 I know who I am. I know who I'm not. And I'm not moved by, you know, I'm not moved by all the critics and all the negative chatter.
00:55:41.320 And it's going to be there. And for me, I get it from both sides.
00:55:44.900 Will you go further left or will you go further right?
00:55:47.860 And I told my team early on, I said, guys, I'm going to get criticized for something because we're making a lot of, you know, noise or impact.
00:55:55.520 And I said, I'd rather be criticized for who I am.
00:55:58.280 And here's who I am.
00:55:59.060 I believe God's good.
00:56:00.060 I believe God is for you.
00:56:01.260 I believe he's got a great life in front of you.
00:56:03.140 And I want to be criticized for what I believe.
00:56:05.200 So, you know, you can't put out all those fires.

00:58:01.680 No, no, no. I mean, like—
00:58:02.880 I can't even get on the C-list. Like, I'm not even average. I'm not even passing. I'm failing.

00:58:16.740 yeah so you so you pretty much are like mogging the other pastors through peace maxing as opposed
00:58:24.000 to cortisol spiking i have no idea what you just said
00:58:28.280 you're mogging all the other pastors you're not going to call you're not going to spike your
00:58:33.740 cortisol you'll choose to relax max or believe in yourself max or peace max yes hey that's
00:58:38.900 exactly right that's what i'm speaking on next week that in the clip don't worry don't worry
00:58:44.480 I think I just said that, all right?
00:58:46.020 Got it.
00:58:48.820 That's crazy, bro.
00:58:50.880 It's Beast Max.
00:58:51.860 Beast Max.
00:58:53.240 Would you say this is a megachurch?
00:58:56.380 Yeah, that's what people call it.
00:58:58.260 Have you seen Drewski's megachurch sketch?
00:59:01.120 I saw clips of it.
00:59:02.640 What did you think?
00:59:04.140 Well, it's funny, you know?
00:59:07.660 He's making fun of it.
00:59:09.040 I just thought it was funny.
00:59:10.200 That was funny, but it's a megachurch because we're big.
00:59:13.580 But here's the thing. I think this is interesting. It is mega. But we never tried to have a big
00:59:19.840 church. It really wasn't a goal. It was just a goal to help people. And so my parents started
00:59:25.420 with 90 people back in 1959. So I grew up in a small church. I knew everybody. Until I was 10
00:59:33.240 years old, it was still 90 people. And so it grew to thousands by the time my dad died. But
00:59:39.040 we never really tried to have a big church. We just didn't want to turn people away.
00:59:42.760 You know, we had to just make room for more people.
00:59:45.220 So I think the goal was not just the bigness, but the goal is to impact people.
00:59:50.600 And, you know, the interesting thing, Logan, is I have friends that have churches of 200 people in the county or 300 people.
00:59:58.680 And they're fantastic pastors.
01:00:00.580 It's not, this doesn't necessarily say, well, you're better because it's bigger.
01:00:04.360 It's just, this is, we're in a big city.
01:00:06.500 God's given us a lot of opportunity.
01:00:09.100 And what would be the equivalent of like a pastor feature?
01:00:12.500 Like, do you ever have another pastor come up here and like?
01:00:15.560 Yeah, I'd have friends come and speak for us.
01:00:18.600 Yeah, yeah, like weekends that I'm not here.
01:00:21.140 I have staff that do it.
01:00:22.180 But yeah, there's so many great pastors in America and really around the world.
01:00:26.680 They'll come from other cities too and speak for us.
01:00:29.000 So I've got a lot of friends.
01:00:30.580 Yeah, got to put them on.
01:00:31.660 Yeah, but it's good camaraderie and people have different gifts.
01:00:36.500 And I like to bring people that are different than me.
01:00:38.500 But yeah, there's great pastors.
01:00:41.480 Can I ask you something?
01:00:42.380 Yeah.
01:00:42.840 What do you think happens when we die?
01:00:44.920 And when I say we, I mean, what happens when Mike dies?
01:00:48.580 Why me specifically?
01:00:50.820 Well, you're a good one.
01:00:52.040 Where's he going?
01:00:52.800 Mike, he's going to go to heaven.
01:00:53.860 I believe the scripture.
01:00:55.940 Hey, don't take it from me.
01:00:57.720 Sorry, we shouldn't adapt up on that because I already know you're going to say you can't make that joke.
01:01:01.600 But go ahead.
01:01:02.140 Yes.
01:01:02.740 Well, you know, it says to me, you know, when you're absent from the body, it's to be present with the Lord.
01:01:06.680 When you know the Lord, I believe, Logan, what the Scripture says, that when you know the Lord, you've taken Jesus as your Savior, believe He's the Son of God, and you received His forgiveness.
01:01:16.840 It's a gift by faith.
01:01:18.700 It's not how good you are and, well, I wasn't good enough, you know, or I made too many mistakes.
01:01:23.980 I mean, you know, Cliff does it better than me, the thief on the cross.
01:01:27.240 He couldn't do anything.
01:01:28.340 He just said, you know, can I be with you?
01:01:30.540 And so it's the grace you have to receive it.
01:01:32.840 And then I think, you know, the opposite is there's a hell.
01:01:36.400 there's a separation from God. I don't know what that is, but if you're separating from God,
01:01:41.620 it's not going to be anything good. So, you know, I believe that, but we were created to go to
01:01:46.740 heaven. We were, it was made for us. And, and I believe God gives us all a chance. He calls us
01:01:52.680 and it's an act of faith. I think sometimes your head, you can't understand it, but it's down in
01:01:58.160 your heart. Jesus, I believe you're the son of God. And, and you know, that's what I believe.
01:02:03.800 So I think about it sometimes too. He brings it up. I've, I've had my struggles with sin still do. Do you think there's like different area codes in heaven for people that did better in life?
01:02:19.100 like tears almost yeah so like so like there's like really really nice houses for a preacher
01:02:24.240 who like really was maybe even abstinent or just like really did a great job he gets like crazy
01:02:29.600 house with like a fountain and all that stuff then they have like you're still in heaven but
01:02:33.120 it's like favelas you know what i'm saying like a little bit of like a more like compacted like
01:02:38.820 populated neighborhood for people like me and honestly for you ain't perfect
01:02:43.220 like there's a chance we i wouldn't say neighbors but you could be up the street maybe up the hill
01:02:49.520 a little bit from me i don't think so i mean actually maybe at this point you got the whole
01:02:55.860 the family and the kid yeah and i'm pretty wholesome yeah you're pretty wholesome i'll get
01:02:59.680 there right yeah right yeah 100 yeah no 100 do you think that there's different i don't know i don't
01:03:06.620 i've never studied it all i think that you're going to receive forgiveness and it's going to
01:03:10.740 be a place that's amazing and that, you know what, it's the grace of God because all of us have
01:03:15.760 something and plenty of things, but, you know, it does say you're going to be rewarded for what
01:03:20.220 you've done. And, you know, so I think there's part of that, but I don't know that I understand
01:03:25.240 it all, but I know, I don't think there's going to be different neighborhoods like that.
01:03:29.700 So the way you look at it is, do you think that this separation from God that leads you to
01:03:36.680 eternal damnation is a little bit more of like a active uh step where we're where where someone
01:03:44.300 might actively reject god and say and maybe even tell others like he's not real like this isn't
01:03:51.300 real or or even go even further and and worship the devil or or or some sort of pagan god right
01:03:57.300 yeah i don't know mike i don't know if i understand it all i know we're getting a little
01:04:00.660 no no i don't know this stuff really interests me in lp that's yeah you gotta get somebody that's
01:04:04.800 more skilled on it. But mine is just, I know it's separation from God. I know we don't want to be
01:04:09.880 there. So I hadn't studied much about it. Okay. Can I ask you another question? Yes. Okay. Because
01:04:14.380 about collaborations within your ministry. Okay. You did a big one in 2018. Okay. With a guy named
01:04:21.120 Kanye West, his Sunday service. Yes. He goes by yay now. Kanye's had a pretty rough couple years
01:04:28.520 year okay and and and did some abhorrent things and has his rationales or whatever just last week
01:04:34.880 he sold out so fi in los angeles two nights 80 000 people and is on this comeback tour just
01:04:41.360 wanted to get your thoughts on where he's at and where yeah how that all looks to you you know it's
01:04:47.740 it's interesting because i had no contact with with kanye or yay before he came on his spiritual
01:04:56.140 journey. And that was back, like you said, in 2018 or so. So he wanted to talk and we talked
01:05:02.060 several times and on the phone, we met several times. And I found him, I can just tell you what
01:05:07.840 I know. He was as respectful and kind and sincere as can be. And one of the nicest men came to my
01:05:13.720 house, had dinner, came to the church and did a beautiful Sunday service and all. I think,
01:05:19.920 Like, you know, I don't know, but, you know, he struggles with some, you know, mental illnesses and stuff, and he's talked about that. 0.85
01:05:28.120 But that's what I see now, and some of the things I heard, you know, since then was not the yay that I knew.
01:05:36.040 And so I pray for him.
01:05:37.680 I pray for him often because I know his heart, and I know he's a good man, and I believe that he loves God.
01:05:44.540 It's just, you know, sometimes you can maybe get a little off course.
01:05:48.280 So I don't know where he's at.
01:05:49.660 I wish I could speak to him again, but, you know, it's been a time that I need to pray for him.
01:05:58.440 Yeah, absolutely.
01:05:59.540 Maybe you guys need to reconnect.
01:06:01.220 I'd love to do that.
01:06:02.520 I don't know where he is.
01:06:03.440 He seems like he's in a different place.
01:06:04.780 I'm talking there, but I know he was, again, he has a, I believe, has a heart for God and a heart to do the right thing.
01:06:11.260 I think, you know, there's some, you know, we all have issues, but sometimes it's stronger in people of just fighting some mental battles and just in general, not just with him.
01:06:22.340 But there's mental illnesses are real and they can throw you off and, you know, but I believe you can be healed and you can be restored.
01:06:29.740 It's a very complex situation, and I, you know, as someone who's definitely struggled with the mental demons of life and done some really nasty stuff as a result of it, I think, you know, Kanye, like anybody else, has to go through the righting of the wrongs, you know?
01:06:49.640 Like, how do you fix it now?
01:06:51.540 You know, and then how do you...
01:06:52.720 Can I make one suggestion?
01:06:53.820 Yeah.
01:06:54.260 There's just one suggestion.
01:06:56.160 He put an apology out, right?
01:06:57.360 He did put an apology out.
01:06:58.520 he met with some people from the jewish religion it was a written it was a written uh he did yeah
01:07:03.860 but he met with a rabbi as well and has started to fix that it's i think for me it would be nice
01:07:10.680 to hear the apology and see the demeanor of the apology rather than like a tweet you know i'm
01:07:19.120 saying and it's just coming from someone who's made mistakes i have a feeling that if i were to
01:07:25.800 only leave it as a text-based apology i'd be filleted yeah and i don't know if he gets the
01:07:31.180 kanye pass because he's kanye but like i think the genuineness and authenticity of a real heartfelt
01:07:38.720 apology at least for me yeah would go a long way yeah maybe you should do that with him what if he
01:07:45.120 what if he had if you guys had a one-on-one and that was his conversation about it i'd love to
01:07:50.240 help in any way i can i don't know if i have that influence with him but i'd love to help in any way
01:07:54.020 i can i think what you're saying logan just in general people hear your heart is always better
01:07:58.500 than than a written word so yeah like i like i i had a i had a lot of people being like oh this
01:08:04.040 was actually a good apology and i'm like man it how do we how you can even think for one second
01:08:09.920 this is genuine and not prepared by a pr team how would you how would you how could you possibly
01:08:13.380 know that yeah and it hasn't been glossed over by at least 20 people that are close with kanye
01:08:18.580 and looking out for him instead of it coming from him exactly i don't i don't have the answers to
01:08:22.840 it either i i do hear that for sure and like the idea of him having a conversation about it and
01:08:27.840 and like i'm not one of the uh afflicted ones by his statements i'm a christian and and so like i
01:08:34.040 can't speak for other people but like the idea that that it should just fade out and we should
01:08:39.900 just forget about it you know seems a little crazy to me yeah but you know we'll see what happens and
01:08:45.380 obviously he's he's got a stroke of genius in him and he's still gonna be selling out stadiums and
01:08:50.720 i mean dylan's dylan's jewish he went he said it was a great time yeah it was great everybody
01:08:54.600 i knew a lot of i knew a lot of jewish people that went to it you know and and our and our
01:09:00.440 and and and dylan's you know stance on it was like we need to find forgiveness for people as
01:09:05.020 much as you do in the christian faith like we look at things the same way we're gonna try to
01:09:09.120 find a way to reconnect with our brothers and sisters and do that outreach that you do so well
01:09:13.060 with your ministry and yeah and i think um but it brings up this like deeper conversation around
01:09:18.640 cancel culture in general i think his was seemed a little bit more obvious than some of the other
01:09:22.900 cases but like where is the line you know at the end of the day where you say and and it's a deep
01:09:28.880 thing to go and say this human is beyond repair that's a horrible thing to say yeah yeah i don't
01:09:35.760 know if i know the answer mike you know there's consequences there's consequences that you know
01:09:39.920 that but you know we're for second chances but you know obviously there's times where second
01:09:44.440 chance but stay in the background though get your second chance so i don't i don't know what
01:09:48.460 the answer is do you believe in aliens i've never thought about it i've never i never really thought
01:09:55.040 about it no do i believe in aliens i don't know i don't know do you yeah yeah yeah i actually don't
01:10:03.940 even know if it's like up for debate anymore really yeah i think i think uh you know alien
01:10:10.460 is interesting and perhaps in a way like we're the aliens um because you know we're a bit parasitic
01:10:17.500 like on this floating rock in the middle of space,
01:10:19.420 and I don't know how we got here.
01:10:20.940 I mean, logically, scientifically,
01:10:25.000 do you think scientific explanations of the universe
01:10:28.940 can coexist with spiritual explanations of the universe?
01:10:32.640 I think they can, but again, I have not studied that,
01:10:35.620 but I have people a lot smarter than me believe that they can,
01:10:38.440 but I don't know.
01:10:40.720 Do you think, because there's a whole polymark
01:10:45.300 on whether or not the United States will confirm the existence of aliens this year.
01:10:52.660 And it's a big conversation as these unknown objects and flying crafts
01:10:56.920 and things that can't be explained in the sky are being seen more and more.
01:11:00.400 Do you think if there was an objective confirmation
01:11:04.680 of some sort of extraterrestrial or extra-dimensional life,
01:11:10.420 do you think it would impact at all the way people view Christianity
01:11:13.760 and humanity's place in the universe?
01:11:16.560 Just my point of view, I don't think it would.
01:11:18.680 I don't think that would surprise me, even if, you know,
01:11:21.040 it doesn't mean we understand everything about God and life and space and all that.
01:11:26.200 So it wouldn't be, but maybe I'm more naive and simple, but it wouldn't be.
01:11:30.780 So, you know, God could have made, you know, a lot of things we don't know about.
01:11:36.020 That's the way I always look at it.
01:11:38.540 Yeah.
01:11:38.900 Like, I don't see as much conflict between science and religion.
01:11:43.400 i just see things about god that maybe we don't understand and like science you know will say oh
01:11:51.340 well there's these infinite galaxies and all this stuff and i just see another stroke of god's
01:11:55.280 paintbrush that like we just don't have an explanation for yeah i mean i always go back
01:11:59.360 to the the big bang and like it's like they can always like explain it up until this like
01:12:04.460 one moment like the like light switch moment and like i get there and i'm just like
01:12:10.780 someone like had to do something yeah you know what i'm saying like it just i don't know like
01:12:17.760 this idea that just like everything just created i don't know too big a coincidence to me i know
01:12:23.620 we're getting a little quantum here probably more than you would you would like i'm good what do
01:12:29.480 you like to do outside outside i like to um i like to hang out with my family i like to play
01:12:34.700 tennis jonathan i took up tennis during covet i used to play basketball all the time loved playing
01:12:38.720 basketball grew up playing basketball sports and like to lift weights i like to we travel like to
01:12:44.260 travel but you know after i'll do a radio show at four and then afterwards victorian i'll probably
01:12:49.280 go for a bike ride i'm riding my bike you know just i like to be active yeah yeah yeah i played
01:12:55.600 sports my whole life and so i love doing that you got a favorite team well i like the houston teams
01:13:01.800 yeah i like the houston teams i've been here my whole life so i support the rockets the texans
01:13:05.880 and Astros and all, so, yeah.
01:13:07.940 Do you have a favorite meal of the day?
01:13:10.140 My favorite meal is probably dinner,
01:13:11.800 but I just, I'm a boring eater.
01:13:15.920 Really?
01:13:16.220 I was going to say, what's a favorite meal?
01:13:18.080 I eat turkey tacos.
01:13:21.120 I'll eat a chicken breast at lunch.
01:13:23.080 I try to eat healthier now.
01:13:24.780 Yeah.
01:13:25.160 The last four or five years.
01:13:26.440 You ever get Marco's pizza?
01:13:28.320 I've had it before.
01:13:29.500 Yeah, that's great.
01:13:30.280 What's the best barbecue in Houston?
01:13:32.920 I like Papa's barbecue.
01:13:34.480 Oh, I drove past it.
01:13:35.460 Good companies, too.
01:13:36.300 Good companies are real close, too, but Papa's is good.
01:13:38.040 I order Papa's all the time.
01:13:39.120 I was going to bring my mom to Pinkerton's.
01:13:41.300 Pinkerton's?
01:13:41.700 Yeah.
01:13:42.240 I don't know.
01:13:42.820 Maybe it's newer, but we drove by Papa's.
01:13:44.760 Nice.
01:13:45.240 Do you like Whataburger?
01:13:46.580 I love Whataburger, but I don't eat it as much anymore.
01:13:48.860 I try to eat healthy, but I eat Whataburger my whole life.
01:13:51.600 Yeah.
01:13:52.160 I love that.
01:13:53.200 You don't do, like, tours of your sermons?
01:13:55.960 Well, we did.
01:13:56.960 Logan, before COVID, I did 250, what we call a night of hope,
01:14:01.560 in different basketball arenas all across America and some overseas, too.
01:14:05.460 So, yeah, it was great.
01:14:07.200 I do one a month.
01:14:08.340 It wasn't a long tour, but I do one a month.
01:14:10.380 But I did that for 16 years.
01:14:12.780 Wow.
01:14:13.220 And it was good.
01:14:13.860 Didn't you – I like how he says, like, oh, yeah, we go do these little shows.
01:14:17.600 Didn't you sell out Yankee Stadium?
01:14:19.420 We've done it three times.
01:14:20.600 Whoa.
01:14:21.140 Three times.
01:14:21.720 Holy smokes.
01:14:22.420 Yeah, I got the honor of – when they opened their new stadium,
01:14:26.340 I was the first non-baseball event there.
01:14:28.680 They asked me to come open it up.
01:14:30.000 And so it was amazing, you know, because when they asked me,
01:14:33.340 the Yankees organization, somebody there called and asked. I thought it was a prank call. You know,
01:14:37.800 you want this preacher from Texas to come up to New York. But we went up there and did it.
01:14:41.960 It was amazing. People are hungry for faith and positivity and hope. And, you know, it was an
01:14:49.080 amazing time. I remember when it was over, that's the first stadium event I'd done. When it was over,
01:14:53.460 nobody wanted to leave. They just stayed in the stands. I thought, oh my gosh. And they were on
01:14:57.140 the subway singing the songs. And then we did one stadium a year, a big stadium. We do the basketball
01:15:02.700 arenas once a month, but I did that for 10 years. And so I want to do some, but COVID is in, in my
01:15:09.380 mind has changed things in terms of how people get their content, at least for me, like in a,
01:15:15.160 in a church during COVID, we were closed for eight months, but we ran the service, you know,
01:15:20.140 we pre-taped them and all, but it taught people to, they can watch online and maybe I don't need
01:15:25.140 to go out. And we kind of follow like movie theaters, you know, that their attendance is
01:15:30.420 down. Cause now you got Netflix and you got, you know, maybe I don't want to go drive to the movie
01:15:34.100 theater anymore. I'll just watch it. And so I've seen the change here, but you know, we're reaching
01:15:39.620 more people. It's just, they're getting their information different ways. Are you charging
01:15:43.720 tickets to sit in a seat? No, no, nothing here. It's all donations. If you want to give and you
01:15:49.580 don't have to give. No, there's nothing. You don't have a gate. No, no, no. When we did the
01:15:54.200 Knights of Hope it was, but it was a $10 ticket. Yeah, I get it. No, this is, this is just there.
01:15:59.880 These are, you know, the people that come and support, they're generous people.
01:16:04.080 They're faithful people.
01:16:05.160 They believe in what we're doing.
01:16:06.580 They support the ministry.
01:16:08.560 And I don't beg people for money or pressure them.
01:16:11.820 It's just, guys, if you want to help us.
01:16:13.700 And we try to show them that we're feeding the poor.
01:16:16.380 And my brother's a surgeon.
01:16:18.440 He works with us, but he goes five months a year or four months a year over to Africa
01:16:22.640 and operates back in these little villages.
01:16:24.520 And I've got great teams that go out and, you know, buy backpacks for kids here in school.
01:16:29.880 that can't afford it we just these are some amazing people here like when i'm bragging on me
01:16:33.920 i'm bragging on them but just the the outreach you know because people see me and it's just this
01:16:38.580 thing but there's a lot behind the scenes of the good that we're able to do yeah you have a big
01:16:42.460 team yeah and i've got i've got a big team we have big resources so i can you know we can help
01:16:48.300 people in need and we can you know and that gets all pushed down it's just all about this other
01:16:52.700 but the yachts yeah yeah and it's no you know what we're doing a lot of good in the community
01:16:57.200 And our team is amazing.
01:16:58.900 I did want to ask something.
01:17:00.340 So obviously, you are a wealthy person.
01:17:03.380 Yes.
01:17:03.700 But it seems that it's because of the extracurricular stuff that you've done outside of the church.
01:17:08.680 That's exactly right.
01:17:09.300 Which to me, I mean, like, bro, you deserve it.
01:17:11.520 You really, you do deserve it.
01:17:13.160 Well, you know what?
01:17:13.640 We're big givers too.
01:17:14.760 Victoria and I believe in being generous.
01:17:16.240 I'm one of the biggest supporters of the church.
01:17:18.120 And so I don't talk about that because I don't want to.
01:17:20.380 Wait, wait, wait.
01:17:21.560 You make money and then you give it back to the church?
01:17:23.860 I'm a big supporter of the church.
01:17:25.300 Whoa, that's.
01:17:26.020 Probably one of the – I'm not saying that to brag.
01:17:28.460 And we give to other things.
01:17:29.560 No, I'm saying it.
01:17:30.520 I know, but otherwise people turn –
01:17:32.420 No, it's super admirable.
01:17:33.260 No, I want to support it.
01:17:35.020 I believe in what we're doing and stuff.
01:17:36.860 And so, no, it's – but God's blessed me.
01:17:40.740 But I'm able to – you know, there's nothing –
01:17:43.820 people kind of get wrong about, you know, you're a Christian.
01:17:46.880 But that's – I mean, Abraham was one of the wealthiest men of his day.
01:17:51.040 And David left –
01:17:52.560 Why is that a thought process?
01:17:56.040 Is it having to do something with, like, living minimally or, like—
01:17:59.560 Well, there's some scriptures, too, right?
01:18:01.220 Yeah, there's some, but I think the general—yeah, I think it is.
01:18:05.300 It's, you know, my dad was taught to be, whatever, holy or a Christian. 0.95
01:18:11.620 You need to be poor. 1.00
01:18:12.940 You need to think defeated.
01:18:14.300 And this was years ago.
01:18:15.400 But there is that mindset of, you know, but I just have a different mindset of, man, guys, it cost $100 million to renovate this facility.
01:18:25.060 I can't do that with a mindset of, oh, we're not supposed to have anything.
01:18:28.640 I got to believe that God will bless you and your businesses.
01:18:32.180 And I mean, I pray every day for the people that give and support.
01:18:35.920 You know, God, let our gifts and talents come out to the full.
01:18:38.280 Bring us opportunities and contracts and divine connections, the right people.
01:18:43.080 Even this, you know, I believe that it's, you know, to be a good steward of it.
01:18:48.820 But it's not, hey, I want this, guys, because I want to go buy a bunch of yachts and stuff.
01:18:52.140 No, it's, how can I be a, man, I'll use it to feed more kids.
01:18:56.500 And I mean, you get to a point where, okay, I got everything I need.
01:18:59.720 I don't need more suits.
01:19:02.340 My car's a 12-year-old Audi sedan, and I love it.
01:19:05.940 And my kids say, you need to get a new car.
01:19:07.440 It's 12 years old.
01:19:08.020 I say, I love my car, you know.
01:19:09.480 I'm happy.
01:19:10.320 So, you know what?
01:19:12.380 It's how can I be a blessing to other people, you know?
01:19:15.240 I do have to ask.
01:19:16.380 Actually, I kind of just want to know personally.
01:19:18.100 besides the suits, besides the give back to the church,
01:19:22.500 is there something that you've splurged on
01:19:24.700 where you're like, man, this is cool.
01:19:26.140 Like, I don't know, Pokemon card, like Mike said,
01:19:29.200 T-Rex tooth, R-piece.
01:19:32.360 No, nothing like that.
01:19:33.860 I have a nice house here.
01:19:35.340 We built us a nice house,
01:19:36.540 but I made that money off of real estate.
01:19:38.640 Build a pool?
01:19:39.740 I got a pool, and I got my workout room.
01:19:42.340 Got a lawn?
01:19:43.200 Say it again?
01:19:43.900 Lawn?
01:19:44.400 It's Texas, so.
01:19:45.480 I got a lawn.
01:19:45.960 They have some land here.
01:19:47.000 How many acres?
01:19:48.100 two acres it's pretty humble and i and i'll write and i'll write my it's perfect i'll write my
01:19:54.080 sermons there so it's my little where i live and it's you know it's it's you know it's nice i wanted
01:19:59.600 to ask about the actual content that you're producing because it's a lot and moreover it's
01:20:06.320 obviously extremely rich are you coming up with what you're saying throughout the week and then
01:20:13.300 you come here and you deliver it? Are you channeling your conversations with God?
01:20:20.340 Yeah, that's a great question. Yeah, I come up with it myself, what I'm feeling. I have
01:20:27.040 pastor friends that may be doing an eight-week series on relationships or something, and that's
01:20:30.940 all good. Mine is, what am I feeling this week? I just came off of yesterday, so I don't really
01:20:36.320 think about it today, but tomorrow I'll start feeling it. What's going on in the world? What
01:20:40.760 am I feeling what's I can only I can only speak on what's in me because I got a lot of notes and
01:20:45.700 stuff but I gotta if I don't feel it I can't talk about it so I'll have to see what I'm feeling but
01:20:50.340 I'll take Wednesday and take Wednesday morning when I'm fresh and I'll just start maybe making
01:20:56.760 some notes or what am I feel I got a lot of notes so what am I feeling Thursday I'll do a more
01:21:02.580 research Thursday morning go for a after I do two or three hours of research Thursday morning I'll
01:21:07.340 go for a walk for an hour or two just to think, okay, what is it? And then Friday I get up and
01:21:11.500 ride it. And so I'll just, I'll type it like, just like I said, I want to talk to you today
01:21:15.440 about, and I'll just type it and whatever comes out. But then, then Saturday I come and I rehearse
01:21:20.320 it here. I do it with the team so they can see it. And then Sunday I do it. So, but bottom line
01:21:25.480 though, is it is, it's a, you know, I don't mean this the wrong way, but it's a one man show. I
01:21:30.340 don't have a team telling me what to do or researching. It's just, I've done a 1071 of
01:21:36.200 those 30 minute messages for and uh and so i don't know it's now it's just it's gotten easier
01:21:41.800 the first four or five years it was like i could write all day and i might only write
01:21:46.940 eight minutes and i think oh gosh i'm not gonna have anything to say i've just got writer's block
01:21:51.420 and i'd sweat and it was a struggle the first you know four or five years because i'd never
01:21:55.880 written a message you know they get up there and they expect you to be great and funny and
01:22:00.360 interesting no no it's it's it's really hard it's and as a performer i i'm not you're not i think
01:22:05.840 performing you're you're more channeling and yeah and or orating in a way yeah but like you know
01:22:11.360 dude there's some days where i'm like i'm not feeling it i'm not i'm not fun i'm not my best
01:22:16.040 self today but i can for the most part like fake it at least to like 80 of my ability and get the
01:22:23.800 promo out yeah but you're you're you're preaching messages with like a lot of like validity in what
01:22:29.740 you're saying, but what, what happens on those days where you're not feeling as funny or as
01:22:34.240 likable or like you, maybe you are having a little self-doubt. I just push through it. And just,
01:22:39.400 again, I try to get myself prepared, meaning that, you know, Monday and Tuesday can be real busy. I
01:22:44.540 can do a lot of stuff. Okay. Wednesday, I got to start awake. I got to calm down. I got to get
01:22:47.520 back to a good space. And it doesn't mean I can't push through it because life happens, but it is,
01:22:53.460 I, I, I take it very seriously that I get to stand up in front of millions of people and
01:22:58.060 they going to give me their time, people like your mom. And I think, God, do you give me this
01:23:02.260 responsibility? I'm going to make sure what I'm saying is the best of my ability, that it's
01:23:06.900 accurate and it makes sense and that it's helping somebody. I don't want to get up there and just
01:23:11.480 tell stories or make somebody laugh. Is this impactful when they leave? I mean, they're
01:23:17.240 giving me their time. Is it going to make some kind of impact? And so I do feel that responsibility.
01:23:23.060 I don't feel it's out of pressure, but it's definitely a responsibility that, man, I got, I am so honored that I get to speak to a lot of people.
01:23:31.040 And, you know, so I do try to take it seriously.
01:23:34.720 And what do I need to say this week?
01:23:36.860 You know, what am I feeling?
01:23:37.960 What's going on in the world and what's going to help?
01:23:40.420 Sometimes it's challenging.
01:23:41.880 It's like, guys, come on, we can break addictions.
01:23:43.880 We can break bondages from the past.
01:23:47.160 We can step past, you know, dysfunction that's held us back.
01:23:50.340 You're the one.
01:23:51.460 And then sometimes I feel like, no, man, I don't need to challenge.
01:23:54.300 I need to tell him, you know what?
01:23:56.420 God is with you in the fire, in the furnace, you know, like that three teenagers.
01:24:00.340 He's going to bring you through.
01:24:01.420 You just stay in peace.
01:24:02.760 And so it's whatever I'm feeling.
01:24:05.460 Sometimes it's what I'm going through in my life, and I just have to—
01:24:08.780 but I feel like that's what I'm, you know, that's what I'll figure out what to say.
01:24:12.880 And it's, you know, it's just 25 minutes.
01:24:15.240 That's what I tell myself, Joel, it's 25 minutes.
01:24:17.280 You can do this, and you get this opportunity.
01:24:19.780 And these things live on.
01:24:20.900 And so when I speak like yesterday, I do my 25 minutes, you know, at two o'clock in the
01:24:27.600 afternoon, they'll send me the edit of it and, you know, and, and I'll review that.
01:24:31.660 And then it goes to my podcast.
01:24:33.840 It goes to Sirius radio.
01:24:35.700 It goes to broadcast TV.
01:24:37.340 It goes to cable and, you know, and they do clip.
01:24:40.580 I don't know if what I'm talking about, but it does get cut up for all those other things.
01:24:42.980 So, so when I leave on Sunday afternoon, I feel good that, okay, there's another, I put
01:24:47.340 out hope to the world.
01:24:48.380 And so anyway, why am I telling you all that?
01:24:50.420 I don't know.
01:24:50.900 I think it leads into a good spot right now because I did just get the,
01:24:55.200 was that a Dylan-type signal?
01:24:57.180 Yeah, it was a signal.
01:24:57.440 I want to ask you this because we know what you're capable of
01:25:01.240 from a prep standpoint, right?
01:25:02.740 But we're coming out of maybe the most joyous day of the year.
01:25:05.660 He has risen.
01:25:06.460 Yesterday was Easter Sunday.
01:25:07.740 What a great day, right?
01:25:09.580 Could you maybe speak to some of the people watching this from home right now
01:25:13.580 and maybe some of the people here with us today,
01:25:15.300 a quick message to bring us out of this lovely episode that we've had.
01:25:19.000 Oh, I'd be honored to.
01:25:19.560 Hey, guys, it's just an honor to be with you today.
01:25:21.740 And just like Mike said, we're coming out of Resurrection Sunday.
01:25:25.260 And to me, part of that is that it's a time of new beginnings in your life.
01:25:30.080 It's a great time to say, you know what, I'm going to let go of the old.
01:25:33.340 We've all made mistakes.
01:25:34.520 We've all had doubt.
01:25:35.560 We all have some guilt.
01:25:36.680 We've all had people that hurt us.
01:25:38.240 But I think it's a great time of the year to just say, you know what, I'm going to leave all the old behind.
01:25:43.900 I'm going to step into a fresh new attitude, fresh vision, and just freshness in your life.
01:25:49.980 And I've learned this, that, you know, the scripture says God will give you beauty for ashes.
01:25:55.220 But as long as you're holding on to the ashes, you'll never see the beauty.
01:25:58.720 And I think sometimes we're holding on to things.
01:26:00.480 We're holding on to hurts.
01:26:01.940 I think we can hold on to, you know, our failures or our inadequacies like me.
01:26:06.980 I can't do this.
01:26:07.900 I'm not talented enough.
01:26:08.940 I'm not like my dad.
01:26:09.700 But if you'll let go of those things, I believe God will, you know, give you beauty for the
01:26:14.240 answer.
01:26:14.520 He'll show you new levels of His favor and His blessing in your life.
01:26:18.520 I know this, you wouldn't be alive unless God had something in store for you, a purpose
01:26:23.680 and a destiny.
01:26:24.640 I think sometimes we try to fill it in other things and we're, you know, competing or comparing
01:26:29.360 with somebody else.
01:26:30.440 And you know what?
01:26:31.360 You can be who God made you to be.
01:26:33.540 And you know, Mike, too, it's just, you know, I'm not talking about even joining my religion
01:26:37.900 or anything.
01:26:38.280 It's about a relationship with God.
01:26:39.560 You just say, Jesus, you know what?
01:26:40.960 I need you.
01:26:41.520 I need your help.
01:26:42.220 God, I believe you have a purpose for me.
01:26:44.320 You can just talk to God like you talk to your friend.
01:26:47.100 You know, you can talk to God all through the day in your thoughts and you talk to him
01:26:51.020 like a friend and you know what?
01:26:53.120 God will help you.
01:26:53.780 He'll lead you and guide you through your life.
01:26:55.400 But thanks for the opportunity, guys.
01:26:57.480 Thank you, Joel.
01:26:58.580 Yeah, you are very nice.
01:26:59.620 Let me do this.
01:27:00.280 Thank you.
01:27:00.700 Thank you.
01:27:01.040 Thank you for coming on.
01:27:02.220 My pleasure.
01:27:02.960 Thanks for giving us your stage.
01:27:04.580 Yeah, man.
01:27:05.140 I'm glad having you.
01:27:05.780 To use art to film what's on our stage.
01:27:09.140 Yeah.
01:27:09.560 yeah
01:27:11.240 who would have ever thought
01:27:14.320 Logan would be on Lakewood's stage
01:27:16.020 you're going to have some shocked viewers
01:27:18.480 who had to
01:27:20.420 clean it off at the end
01:27:21.460 thank you
01:27:23.720 Joel Osteen ladies and gentlemen
01:27:25.320 do you ever say any more
01:27:27.920 thanks so much for clocking in
01:27:30.320 we're working late
01:27:31.020 sometimes
01:27:31.540 thanks for watching
01:27:35.400 we'll see you next week
01:27:37.440 see ya peace
