00:00:00.000 Hi, it's John and welcome to the channel. I'm recording this at 9.39 on Friday, April
00:00:08.900 the 3rd. I hope you're having a great Friday. No doubt looking forward to the weekend as
00:00:13.540 I am. And I just wanted to talk about a couple of things that are coming up and something
00:00:18.000 that you need to do when it comes to the independence movement. It has been an extraordinary
00:00:24.340 week, I have to say. It has been an amazing week with some very good news coming earlier.
00:00:30.000 from Stay Free Alberta's Mitch Sylvester. But there are some things coming up this weekend that I'd
00:00:36.180 like you to take part in. And one of them is this one right here. And this is an opportunity for you
00:00:42.280 to thank canvassers, Canvasser Appreciation Day on Saturday. Just go out sometime during the day.
00:00:48.960 And if you're driving by and you see one of the pop-up petition places, just go over and shake a
00:00:54.520 hand and go over and say thank you. Go over and maybe drop off a coffee and donuts. I'm going out
00:01:01.060 tomorrow. I'm going to try to visit maybe half a dozen or 10 different places. I'm going to be
00:01:05.620 dropping off some chocolate bunnies and some Easter eggs as well because it is Easter weekend.
00:01:10.860 But make sure you go by and you just say thanks. You don't have to buy anything. You don't have to
00:01:16.040 spend a cent. I'll tell you, I dropped by a couple of places just last weekend. Some people sitting
00:01:22.000 out on the road just before Prittis, southwest of Calgary. And it was a pretty chilly day. They
00:01:28.160 were out there collecting signatures. They collected about 12 or 15 at that point.
00:01:33.140 And they had a big smile on their face when they went up to shake their hands.
00:01:36.560 I saw another couple, an elderly couple down at Elbow Falls. Great place to set up a pop-up
00:01:42.180 petition place. And they were signing people up, quite a few when I was there. And together,
00:01:47.460 those two people had signed up 840 people each and this is happening all across the province so
00:01:54.820 go out tomorrow and say thank you to the canvassers now what we need you to do is take a picture while
00:02:01.400 you're there as well maybe of you shaking a hand and then send that picture to let's go alberta one
00:02:08.300 at gmail.com let's go alberta one at gmail.com we're going to take the pictures and make something
00:02:15.520 special out of it to thank the canvassers. Now, something else that's going on this weekend.
00:02:20.820 Wanted to pass this along to you. This is happening in the Red Deer area. Big, blue,
00:02:25.780 beautiful flag across Red Deer on Saturday. So you may want to take part in this. The idea is
00:02:31.620 to bring out a flag. If you've got an Alberta flag, be there. Bring your independence energy
00:02:36.420 as well. Starts at noon hour, Gates Avenue and 19th Street to 67th Street and beyond.
00:02:41.860 It should be a real fun day. And the idea is just to get everybody together and have some fun.
00:02:47.800 And I can guarantee you when you go out to an event like this, if you haven't been part of one, you will meet friends here.
00:02:54.000 And you'll really feel the energy after a wonderful week.
00:02:56.700 And this is an opportunity, I think, to celebrate the big number that we got earlier this week with Mitch.
00:03:02.820 So let me bring that up once again. Again, this is happening at noon.
00:03:06.020 Gates Avenue and 19th Street, 267th Street and beyond.
00:03:09.520 I don't know Red Deer, but let's get lots of big, blue, beautiful flags out there on Saturday.
00:03:16.160 Now, something else I need you to think about.
00:03:19.420 Earlier this week, Mitch Sylvester from Stay Free Alberta came out,
00:03:23.220 and he said that we reached the goal of $177,000 and change when it comes to signatures on the petition.
00:03:32.200 This from Rise of Alberta.
00:03:33.300 Mitch Sylvester confirmed today that Alberta's independence petition has passed the required
00:03:37.700 threshold with a healthy margin and signatures are still coming in. And I think that last line
00:03:43.220 there is very important, still coming in. This does not mean that the petition signing is over
00:03:48.240 with. I've had a few people who have been out on the front lines collecting signatures for a long
00:03:53.140 time and they said people all of a sudden are thinking they don't have to sign the petition.
00:03:57.060 That's not true. There is strength in numbers and that means there's strength in signatures.
00:04:02.640 $177,000 is good. We have a healthy margin over that, from what I understand, but the more,
00:04:09.160 the better. So if you haven't signed the petition, by all means, get out and do it
00:04:13.220 like there is no tomorrow. I'm not suggesting there isn't, but we do have a court case coming
00:04:17.840 up this week. We do not know if the petition signing will come to an end. I spoke with Jeff
00:04:22.440 Rath earlier this week. He seems to think that we'll continue on into May, but there's always a
00:04:28.140 chance it could end. So get out and sign the petition. If you've been procrastinating, for
00:04:33.460 goodness sakes, do it now. Yes, we got to our goal. Yes, we're going to have a question on
00:04:39.660 a ballot in the fall, on a referendum in October, but the more signatures, the better. Here's
00:04:45.320 something that dawned on me just the other day, and it's very strange. I put this on to
00:04:49.060 X. I've been thinking about independence for years, really talking about it for 12 months,
00:04:55.720 and yesterday, suddenly it dawned on me, damn, we're going to vote for our independence.
00:05:02.880 Thanks, everyone.
00:05:03.840 It just struck me when I was sitting in my bedroom.
00:05:06.920 My wife was taking a bit of a break from work.
00:05:09.280 She works at home, and it just dawned on me about 22 hours after Mitch announced that
00:05:14.920 we got the required number of signatures that, folks, this is really happening.
00:05:20.660 Now, what you have to understand as well
00:05:22.160 is that this is just part of the plan,
00:05:26.260 part of the movement.
00:05:27.640 The next movement is going to be even more important,
00:05:30.500 and that's when we get into going out
00:05:31.980 and trying to convince people to vote yes on the referendum.
00:05:35.420 So get out there, sign the petition this weekend,
00:05:38.740 get out to the events I told you about,
00:05:40.860 and don't forget, Canvasser Appreciation Day tomorrow.
00:05:43.460 Drop by one of the pop-up petition places.
00:05:46.920 You can find them at stayfreealberta.com.
00:05:49.220 If you don't know where one is, you can drop a coffee and a donut off if you want.
00:05:53.720 I'm dropping off those bunnies and chocolate eggs.
00:05:56.580 Go over, say thank you, shake a hand, and show your appreciation for the wonderful jobs that canvassers have done so far.
00:06:04.120 Thanks for watching. I hope you liked the video.
00:06:06.600 If you did, give it a thumbs up, subscribe to the channel, ring the bell for notifications if you could share it.
00:06:11.700 I would appreciate it very much.
00:06:15.060 I'll see you in the next one.
