00:04:50.340 the getting ahead that Carney promised us, wouldn't pay for a full roast last night. We just don't eat

00:05:01.040 getting ahead, let's go over and find out what the poorest Canadians are doing. Because there's this

00:05:07.680 from Juneau News, the liberal tax cut gives poorest Canadians just $11 annually. That's less than a

00:05:15.040 dollar a month. There's four quarters. It amounts to about that much right there. And here's the thing

00:05:19.960 when it comes to the people who are hardest hit by inflation and high prices. They got screwed over

00:05:26.180 by people who don't have to worry about high prices and inflation back on April the 28th. The baby boomers 0.57

00:05:32.500 who have a pension and a paid-for home and don't worry about prices at all. Those people actually

00:05:38.380 screwed over their grandkids and the young people who are struggling right now as well, trying to buy

00:05:42.820 homes and just to buy groceries. And when it comes to grocery prices, are you even getting ahead? No. Prices

00:05:56.600 Well, we begin this hour with breaking news on the cost of living crisis. A new report just into our

00:06:02.960 newsroom is revealing how much more Canadians are paying for food. If this feels familiar to you,

00:06:09.580 you're not alone. Walk in the aisles of your local grocery store, carefully picking produce and trying

00:06:15.080 to stick to a budget. But you can't escape the high price pinch. You might be feeling like you're

00:06:20.400 shelling out hundreds of dollars more for food than last year. And it turns out you're right.

00:07:41.640 Taxpayer Federation annual report on New Year's tax changes reveals that Canadians can expect higher tax

00:07:47.120 bills in the coming year. While the Kearney government cut the lowest income tax rate from

00:07:51.360 15 to 14 percent earlier this year, the average taxpayer will only save about $190. This is you're

00:07:58.680 getting ahead, according to the Parliamentary Budget Officer. This is the government, folks. A study

00:08:04.460 published earlier this year by the Fraser Institute found the average Canadian family lost 42.3 percent of

00:08:11.160 their income to taxes, costing them more than housing, food, and clothing combined, which only

00:08:18.200 amounts to 35.5 percent. You work almost half of your day and give it to the government. Isn't that

00:08:25.920 crazy? For example, a typical family earning $114,289 in 2024 paid $48,000 in taxes to all levels of

00:08:36.360 government in 2025. Are you getting ahead, folks? How are your services? Go get your health care

00:08:42.840 and stand in line for hours. It just keeps getting worse and worse, and you pay more and more and

00:08:47.380 more. There's some good news and bad news for taxpayers in 2026, said CTF Federal Director Franco

00:08:53.880 Terrazano. The federal government cut income taxes. That's you're getting ahead, folks, but it's hiking

00:08:59.160 payroll taxes. The government canceled the consumer carbon tax, but it's hammering Canadian businesses with a

00:09:04.920 higher industrial carbon tax. So they put money in one pocket and they take even more out of the

00:09:09.880 other one. That's what Franco is telling us here. According to the report, Ottawa will increase the

00:09:14.360 maximum mandatory Canada pension plan and employment insurance contributions for payroll taxes in 2026,

00:09:22.580 meaning an additional $262 next year for each worker. Ottawa's industrial carbon tax is going up to

00:09:31.180 $110 per ton. Alcohol taxes go up every year on April 1st. Canadians pay too much tax because the

00:09:37.900 government wastes too much money. And I immediately, when I read that in this article this morning,

00:09:42.560 I thought again of Ronald Reagan, the great communicator who said, the problem is not that

00:09:47.240 people are taxed too little. The problem is that government spends too much. And that's absolutely

00:09:52.480 true. And what Franco Terrazano will also tell you, and this is a stunning thing to think about,

00:09:59.320 and I always remember this. This is, this is Canada and you as a Canadian getting ahead, folks,

00:10:04.060 just paying the interest on our debt in this country is more than a billion dollars every week.

00:10:11.140 You could build a hospital every week on just the interest we pay on the debt we've got in this

00:10:17.720 country. And it continues to go up as do prices. I just can't handle all this getting ahead. How about

00:10:25.660 you? But just look at it this way. A new year brings renewal. We can look for something better

00:10:33.000 in 2026. And I, and I think, I think there's some good things coming down the line. At least I hope,
