Water pipes explode in our city and we have a boil water advisory. What are the priorities of our mayor and how much money is being spent on the things that don t matter, like roads and water mains?
00:00:00.000Hi, it's John and welcome to the channel. It is Thursday, January the 1st. It is 10
00:00:08.420minutes before 3am. I hope you're having a great start to your new year. Happy new year
00:00:13.760to you. And if you're watching this, I hope you don't have a real bad headache. Some people
00:00:18.840are just going to bed after New Year's revelry. I'm just getting up. It's great to have you
00:00:24.020here. And I'm here with the big blue mug of coffee, of course. And I woke up this morning
00:00:29.380and I wanted to check in on the latest catastrophe to hit my city. Now, you may be living in
00:00:37.400the rest of Canada. I have people who comment that they're from the United States and from
00:00:42.400around the world. But folks, this is a warning to you if you have left-wing governments running
00:00:47.680your city, which we've had for many years here in Calgary. Jodi Gondek, the most recent
00:00:51.920one, and there was Nahed Nenshi before that. They put money towards woke things instead
00:00:56.080of the things that really count, like making lives better for city taxpayers. Things like
00:01:00.420roads and water mains. And that's what I want to talk to you about this morning. And I'm
00:01:05.840going to go to Kian Bexty from Juneau News in just a moment with a great report on where
00:01:11.240the city has its priorities. And it's not fixing water mains. Now, we've got an absolute catastrophe
00:01:17.180happening in our city right now. Here's some video footage of it. This is a water main break
00:01:21.880in the Northwest. This is about as far away from where I live in Calgary as you can get
00:01:27.080because I live in the far Southeast. And right now, I'm being told that I can't bathe myself
00:01:33.380when I want. I've got to watch how much I wash my dishes, clean my clothes. And places around
00:01:41.780the area have boil water advisories in effect. But this happened before. In the summer of 2024,
00:01:48.680this happened before. And they never fixed the problem. But they've got lots of money to spend
00:01:53.400on woke shit, folks. We'll get to that in a moment. And Kian's missing one real big thing
00:01:58.940that we're spending money on, but we can't fix water mains here. You can't think of too many things
00:02:04.060that you need more than water. The first thing you look for when you're stranded out in the forest is
00:02:10.620find a good source of water, folks. You're going to die. Food can wait.
00:02:14.540Let me take you back to 2024 quickly. So back in 2024, a water main breaks in Northwest Calgary,
00:02:23.080the same one that broke just the other day. The one you were watching video from just a second ago.
00:02:29.880And we were told that we couldn't wash our cars. We were told that we had to limit our showers,
00:02:35.360how much we washed our clothes, did our dishes, and watered our plants. Now, let me just give you a
00:02:40.540little bit of an idea of my little slice of heaven here in Southeast Calgary. I don't have a big plot
00:02:46.480of land, but all of my property is flowers and plants. I have no grass. Other than the grass by
00:02:53.640the street that is owned by the city, I have no grass. These are pictures from the summer of 2024.
00:02:59.640And as you can see, during this water ban, for the most part, we were really limited how much water we
00:03:05.360could put on our plants. My plants would have died, but my plants did just fine that summer, folks.
00:03:10.580You can see right here. They look beautiful, don't they? It was the strangest thing. It was the strangest
00:03:16.240thing. I'm going to tell you about a very weird meteorological phenomenon that hit in the summer
00:03:23.020of 2024 on my property. Very, very early in the morning, every other day, a small black cloud rolled
00:03:30.420over my property and it rained on all my beautiful plants you saw there. It was amazing. Didn't hit
00:03:38.000anybody else's property. And I know that because I'm up very early in the morning to see those plants
00:03:44.040get watered if you get my drift. So now we've got this major issue going on in the Northwest again,
00:03:50.760and this is an indictment on government. They're not doing their jobs. This problem,
00:03:57.520which happened in 2024, it was supposed to be fixed. They were monitoring and it blew up the other
00:04:03.680day. Here's a few of the articles just from this morning in the Calgary Sun. Calgary water pipe explodes
00:04:09.300again. Farkas, fire, city big shot, Duckworth. Jeremy Farkas is our new mayor. I have great belief in
00:04:16.720this man. I think he's going to be a good mayor. He needs to fire people over this. Our previous mayor
00:04:23.020was Jody Gondak. The first thing she wanted to do in the city, never mentioned it during the whole
00:04:28.440campaign, was to declare a climate emergency. And the lefties on city council, they decided to spend
00:04:37.900billions of dollars on changing the weather. I guess that's the best way to put it.
00:04:42.580And previously, we had Nenshi as our mayor, who taxed us into oblivion. And now he wants to be the
00:04:48.800premier. He leads the NDP here in Alberta. Here's another story. Airdrie, Chestermere, YMC,
00:04:56.380Calgary put under water restrictions. As per usual, New Year's Eve celebration goes ahead despite the
00:05:02.980water main break. Doing this again. Businesses, you got to be frustrated. It almost destroyed
00:05:08.120businesses in 2024. What's this going to do at this time of year over this water main break? Here's
00:05:13.660another one. No wire snaps in the lead up to Bearspaw South Feeder Main's second catastrophic failure,
00:05:19.560city officials say. And what to know about the latest rupture of the Bearspaw South Feeder Main,
00:05:25.100which is a main feeder for the whole city of Calgary. And what's the city spending money on?
00:05:31.880Here's Kian Bexte doing great work for Juneau News. A little bit from Kian, not the whole thing,
00:05:36.300but he missed something major on this list of where the money in the city or where the city's
00:05:41.640priorities are when it comes to taxpayer dollars. Since the days of Nahid Nenshi and Jody Gondek,
00:05:46.980the city of Calgary has taken the safety and security of Calgarians extremely seriously.
00:05:52.980They've been investing millions and millions of dollars. And just yesterday, a water line broke
00:05:59.020here at the city of Calgary, flooding the main artery that goes through the city that actually
00:06:04.600connects the entirety of Canada. This is 16th Avenue, Trans-Canada Highway. There's now a boil water
00:06:09.780advisory in this city. People are being asked to conserve water, actually. They want you to
00:06:14.440lower the length of your showers. They want you to quit using your dishwasher, your laundry machine.
00:06:20.180The city is in full-blown crisis. And here I have the city of Calgary's strategic plan from 2023 to
00:06:27.6402027 is still in effect right now. They're actually investing this money currently, spending it where
00:06:33.720it's really, really needed to keep Calgarians safe. I want to read a few of these examples to you about
00:06:40.380what the city is doing. Oh, sorry. I'm just looking at the, it's just really small print here. It's
00:06:45.040called the City of Calgary Anti-Racism Strategic Plan 2023 to 2027. They're investing millions of
00:06:53.320dollars in that, not actually inspecting these pipelines, but I'll get to that later. Here,
00:06:57.200we'll just go through a few examples of what the city is spending money on. And no, it's not just
00:07:02.320Somali daycares. See, they're actually spending $200,000 this year and next year for the Calgary
00:07:11.180African Community Collective, which is seeding transformation and growing empowered societies,
00:07:17.340strengthening the capabilities of emerging black-led grassroots organizations, addressing
00:07:21.880systemic racism by delivering culturally responsive initiatives to develop meaningful social change.
00:07:28.440That's something we can all get behind here at the city of Calgary.
00:07:31.160But that doesn't even come close to what they're spending on everywhere else. $285,000 to the North
00:07:38.280of McKnight Community Society. Hmm, what could that be? Well, they're building resilience and
00:07:44.140empowerment in diverse and racialized communities to combat racism. Not boil water advisories, not the
00:07:52.460strategic infrastructure that the city's supposed to be taking care of, sewer, water delivery. No, no,
00:07:59.080they have far more important things to be investing in. This is what Nenshi and Gondek have been spending
00:08:04.800money on for a very long time. And frankly, the current city council is still spending money on this.
00:08:09.500Thank you very much to Kian Bexty. Thank you to Juno News for actually doing journalism. I appreciate what you're doing and pointing these things out, this stupidity.
00:08:19.820By the way, just to let you know, over the last couple of days, Juno has been sending me email asking for me to contribute. This is where they sit at 3.05 in the morning. $250,000 is their goal. I forgot to subscribe. I was going to do this a couple of weeks ago. I've got my wallet out. I'm going to subscribe to them because they're important.
00:08:38.240Just like Western Standard is. Just like True North is. Just like Rebel News. They're all important. Go and subscribe to these people. They're good conservative journalists doing their job and getting you information, unlike the rest of the media, which is paid for by the federal government, which you're paying for to be propagandized, to spread misinformation. So go support these people.
00:09:00.180So something that Kian forgot to mention on here is something I thought about immediately when this water main popped. And this story, great timing, ran yesterday.
00:09:11.560Well, we've got a water main break that hasn't been properly maintained in the Northwest, which supplies water to the city of Calgary. We're stepping into a whole new era. Excitement builds as construction on Calgary's new arena nears halfway point.
00:09:26.420So this is a new entertainment center they're building, for the most part, for the Calgary Flames. So people who can afford $150 to $200 hockey tickets can sit and watch a bunch of grown men play a kid's game.
00:09:38.880How much money are taxpayers in the city paying for this? $515.3 million. And this is just the city's portion. The province is putting money into this, and so is the federal government.
00:09:50.320So you're paying this. All the while, we have got a water main break in the Northwest part of the city. Now, people will say, but John, an entertainment center and the Calgary Flames, they bring tax dollars into the city. This is good for the city.
00:10:03.160Well, what good are the tax dollars doing if we're spending it on woke shit, and we can't keep our water mains from breaking in this city?
00:10:09.620Now, the other thing I'm thinking about here is, how much better would the infrastructure be in my city if we didn't have to give so much money to Ottawa?
00:10:22.600It's something like $70 to $80 billion. We only get $20 billion back.
