00:00:00.000 Hi, it's John, and welcome to the channel, 432 AM, Saturday, August the 15th. I hope
00:00:08.260 you're having a great start to your Saturday and your weekend as well. Thanks so much for
00:00:11.560 being here. And today I want to go East. Go East, young man. Well, not so young anymore,
00:00:17.640 but go East, young man. We're going to talk about politics from the East. Now, what we're
00:00:22.200 going to talk about here certainly has repercussions across the country. And this certainly is a
00:00:28.480 story about the federal government as well. But we're going to go to Ontario today. We're going
00:00:32.580 to talk about a guy named Doug Ford. Okay. Now, for those of you who don't know, Doug Ford
00:00:37.960 is the conservative premier of Ontario. And I say conservative rather loosely. You'll remember
00:00:43.740 last year prior to the election, he was very critical of Pierre Polyev and his campaign,
00:00:49.100 all but endorsing Mark Carney, you know, sitting down having breakfast with him. Everybody said,
00:00:53.640 you know, Doug's not supporting Paulie F. He's supporting Mark Carney, his boy in Ottawa. It
00:01:00.120 was just a beautiful thing to see. So we're going to talk about Doug Ford today. And I would
00:01:06.020 describe Doug Ford as a petulant child. That's what he seems like, you know. He stomps his feet 0.84
00:01:12.300 when he doesn't get his way. He's certainly done a lot of that. He has what are known as bozo
00:01:17.720 eruptions. And for those of you who don't know what that is, when a public or a political figure
00:01:23.600 says something that has negative repercussions, and boy, Doug has been really good at that over
00:01:28.940 the last year or so. You know, I hold Doug Ford up as sort of a prototypical Eastern voter in this
00:01:35.440 country. I would say that Doug Ford, no doubt who voted for Mark Carney, is an elbows up type of guy,
00:01:41.680 okay? So what we're going to do here is we're going to look at a few of the things he's done,
00:01:44.700 and one recently that isn't making things better for Canadians. In fact, he's made a lot of things
00:01:51.300 worse for Canadians over the last year, and he's not learning from this. And we're going to show
00:01:55.500 the way Canadians act as well, what their response is to what's happening right now. When what's
00:02:00.040 happening right now, what are we, four days out from some additional tariffs coming in from the
00:02:04.420 United States of America, and then we're going to have somebody from the United States explain
00:02:08.280 what's really going on here. So let's go back. Let me take you back. I believe it was just after
00:02:14.300 the election last year, which was on April 28th of 2025. I remember it like it was yesterday.
00:02:19.920 You probably do as well. Seems like just yesterday, but it was, what, 16 months ago.
00:02:25.740 And here is Doug Ford putting his faith in his boy, Mark Carney, on coming up with a trade deal
00:02:31.260 with Donald Trump. I forget about political stripes, by the way. We have a prime minister
00:02:37.180 down there, and he's going to be sitting down, and he's going to give it everything he can.
00:02:41.960 This is a time to unite the country, not people saying, oh, I'm leaving the country or I'm doing this, I'm doing that.
00:02:49.140 You know, united we stand, divided we fall.
00:02:51.820 So there's our boy Doug Ford in Ontario, the Premier of Ontario, the Conservative Premier of Ontario,
00:02:58.260 16 months ago with his faith in his good buddy Mark Carney.
00:03:02.040 16 months later, he maybe should have taken a vacation.
00:03:04.640 Perhaps he could have spent some time in Tuscany with Mark Carney as Mark's doing his job,
00:03:09.160 making a trade deal with the United States of America four days out from tariffs, but
00:03:13.180 we'll move on from that. So what else has happened over the last year or so with Doug Ford,
00:03:18.600 who is making everything so much better here in Canada and making trade negotiations better,
00:03:24.900 no doubt for Mark Carney, his buddy in Ottawa, and his trade negotiators in Washington right now.
00:03:31.100 Let's go back over a couple of Doug's greatest hits. We keep the lights on, the 1.5 million homes
00:03:37.900 in manufacturing in New York, in Michigan, and in Minnesota. If he wants to destroy our economy
00:03:44.720 and our families, I will shut down the electricity going down to the U.S. And I'm telling you, we
00:03:51.680 will do it. But I can assure you one thing. We're going to make sure that we inflict as much pain
00:03:57.800 as possible to the American people without inflicting pain on the Canadian population. 0.55
00:04:05.680 I'm just wondering, I'm going to ask you this. It won't take you long to answer. I'm not going to
00:04:09.940 run the Jeopardy music or anything in the background, but do you think it's a good
00:04:14.100 negotiating tactic with Donald Trump or the United States administration or your
00:04:19.100 biggest trading partner to threaten innocent people because you're not getting your way?
00:04:26.540 Probably not. It makes things worse. You know, I'm going to put this on the screen. It really
00:04:31.520 didn't have a lot to do with Donald Trump when he did this, probably one of the biggest bozo 0.99
00:04:36.220 eruptions in history. People will be playing this a hundred years from now, probably. But I'm sure 0.91
00:04:41.580 Donald Trump was getting under his skin when he was doing what you're seeing on the screen right
00:04:45.360 now, pouring out the bottle of Crown Royal. And then of course there was this, probably not a good
00:04:50.500 idea to run a commercial in the United States of America. We're going to get to Doug and his latest
00:04:54.940 in just a moment and the reaction of Canadians to what's going on as well, which could be considered
00:04:59.560 a bozo eruption as well. But you remember this. He ran the commercial using Ronald Reagan's words
00:05:05.180 in the United States. He defended this on CNN. Didn't make things better. As a matter of fact,
00:05:11.780 it made things worse. And now we come to this. Now, this just happened the other day.
00:05:18.000 And this is Doug Ford talking to American voters. Probably not going to go over well
00:05:22.840 with Donald Trump. As President Trump threatens additional 50% tariffs,
00:05:28.160 my message to the americans a tariff on canada is a tax on the american people they're feeling
00:05:34.620 the pain as we saw last month they didn't have any job creation so it's hurting the american people
00:05:40.960 that's my message to the american people remember when it comes to the midterms you have to get that
00:05:47.160 bully and send them a message i've got another question for you here and i know i didn't bill
00:05:52.100 this as a quiz off the top. But my question is this, do you really think asking voters to not
00:05:58.320 vote for the sitting president of the United States of America is going to have a positive
00:06:03.380 effect on trade negotiations underway right now? Probably not. I wonder if Doug, I wonder if Doug
00:06:09.620 got on the horn with Mark, who's probably eating prosciutto right now, probably dipping some fine
00:06:15.880 Italian bread into some virgin olive oil over in Tuscany. Did I mention he was in Tuscany? I might
00:06:20.700 have alluded to it earlier in this video. I wonder if he called up Mark Carney and okayed
00:06:25.600 this type of discussion when it comes to the sitting president of the United States of America.
00:06:31.280 And of course, he talks about all the great jobs created, most of them in Ontario,
00:06:35.140 and the United States hasn't created any jobs. I wonder if Doug remembers this.
00:06:40.100 Ontario loses 38,000 jobs as US tariffs hit manufacturing sector. By the way, did you
00:06:46.980 notice the date of this? This was a year ago. I think the number is closer to 70,000 now. Doug
00:06:52.240 hasn't been helping. And I'll tell you this, Doug, Donald Trump wants the manufacturing sector back
00:06:59.720 in the United States of America. That's what he wants to do. And really, everything you're doing
00:07:05.760 here and everything that Mark Carney has said and done over the last year hasn't helped with
00:07:10.460 negotiations. And you're going to hear that from somebody in just a moment in the American
00:07:15.400 administration. Now, there's the bozo eruptions of the rest of the people in Canada as well.
00:07:22.460 They've been following along with the prototypical bozo eruption himself, Doug Ford, in Ontario.
00:07:28.400 You get stories like this. Ignore the insults and act like a real country. Here's Pete Hoekstra,
00:07:34.640 U.S. Ambassador to Canada. We have words of advice for those smug Canadians. I call them
00:07:41.540 self-righteous as well, who are twisting like pretzels and patting themselves on the back
00:07:46.220 for signing a petition calling for the expulsion of American ambassador Pete Hoekstra from this
00:07:51.820 country. I'm not sure where it is right now, 138,000 people or something right now, pretty
00:07:56.140 small amount for a country of 40 million. Grow up, grow a backbone and learn how to brush off
00:08:02.040 insulting language from a foreign diplomat with the contempt it deserves. Launching a petition
00:08:07.360 simply shows U.S. President Donald Trump that his barbs have hit the target. The online petition
00:08:13.980 will be introduced in Parliament by Green Party leader Elizabeth May in September. Oh, sorry,
00:08:20.460 Elizabeth's usually drunk when she says anything, and then I'm just going to end with this. Sadly,
00:08:25.580 his views echo the state of relations between Canada and the U.S. right now. Instead of taking
00:08:31.640 on this whiny, childish tone of enduring victimhood, the petulant child, as I have discussed here, 0.99
00:08:38.820 Canadians should hold our heads high and ignore these foolish insults. We're better than that, 0.98
00:08:44.460 and we know it. Well, I highlighted that in red at the bottom because most Canadians are not 1.00
00:08:49.640 better than that, and they don't know it, Toronto Sun. Now listen, you're going to say, John, why are
00:08:56.460 defending Donald Trump. Donald Trump says stupid stuff. Donald Trump does dumb stuff. Donald Trump 1.00
00:09:04.020 hasn't been a good friend to Canada over the last year, but Donald Trump thinks he's doing what's
00:09:09.220 best for the United States of America. Is Mark Carney? Is Doug Ford? Ask yourself that question.
00:09:17.560 No. Here is an American politician, somebody in the United States administration explaining all
00:09:25.280 this to you you need to understand this this is what this is all about well i would say that those
00:09:32.800 duties if you if you look at what was put out the legal basis for those duties the policy basis for
00:09:38.160 their duties are related to to measures that canada took against the united states so i've
00:09:44.000 got two countries in the world that have retaliated against the united states for trade measures
00:09:48.480 the people's republic of china and canada that's not the kind of company you really want to be
00:09:53.040 running in and so we have three issues where canadians have banned the sale of american wine
00:09:58.560 and spirits uh in canada you know for everything that that we've done on the trump trade
00:10:04.320 administering of essentially assessing a fee on foreign goods made by foreign workers uh we're
00:10:08.880 not in the business of banning uh these things from from canada so that's interesting so that
00:10:13.120 has to be resolved uh we have an uneven dairy treatment uh in some instances canada gives the
00:10:19.440 the EU better treatment on dairy than they give us their best customer and we
00:10:23.200 want the benefit of our bargain from NAFTA and USMCA on dairy and then we
00:10:27.660 have a variety of other issues on procurement and a variety of things
00:10:31.200 like that. I mean those things have to be resolved because that's the legal
00:10:33.820 basis for those other tariffs. You know again from the US perspective you know
00:10:39.660 this is our trade policy the Canadians have come in and they want to have a
00:10:42.420 conversation about it and we're having those conversations. I mean again this
00:10:46.920 This is a global trade policy.
00:10:48.940 We have been suffering in the United States for decades under a trade policy that incentivizes
00:10:52.880 offshoring to China, to Mexico, to Vietnam, but in some cases to Canada even.
00:10:58.920 And we can't allow that to happen anymore.
00:11:00.920 Ultimately, we are accountable to American voters.
00:11:04.060 The president was elected by voters on a campaign, on a platform of protecting American industry.
00:11:11.080 So that is first and foremost what we need to do.
00:11:14.420 tariffs that are coming in, they are a response to Canadian retaliatory measures, like the kind
00:11:19.320 of things that China would do. And so those are things that would have to be resolved. Thank you.
00:11:23.800 You know what really hits home in that one minute and 52 second little clip I showed you from
00:11:29.180 Jameson Greer, the US trade representative, when he says that the EU in some cases gets a better
00:11:35.600 deal on dairy than we do. He's talking about the United States. And that really hits home with me.
00:11:41.540 how many times over the last year have I sat here with a liter of cream as it continues to go up in
00:11:47.420 price? I think it's about $4.15 a liter now. It was $3.85 last year and it was less than $2 about
00:11:54.040 three or four years ago. I'm going to go upstairs and put some cream in my mug and it costs me more
00:11:58.720 every time I do it. And all Donald Trump is doing here is trying to get a better deal for the United
00:12:03.800 States of America. That's his job. This is not big support for Trump. This is condemnation of
00:12:10.040 the people who run this country. And how are they running it? Into the ground.
