00:00:00.000 Well, breaking news, the CTV decision desk is projecting a conservative win.
00:00:11.400 Hi, it's John and welcome to the channel. It is Sunday, October the 25th, 324 a.m.
00:00:17.300 Great to have you along today. Thank you so much for being here.
00:00:21.140 And I'm going to make this one pretty quick this morning. I do have some other videos coming up
00:00:25.140 later today, I think. But I want to start off by saying this, I am no expert on British Columbia
00:00:31.640 politics. I am not. So what I'm saying here comes from somebody who pays attention to British
00:00:38.640 Columbia, but as of late, I've had other things on my mind, if you know what I mean.
00:00:44.060 So I went to bed last night when the coverage of the British Columbia election was just underway.
00:00:52.000 And I woke up this morning and I found out the Conservative Party of British Columbia has a
00:00:56.520 majority. So congratulations to Lorne Dirksen for defeating one of the worst politicians in
00:01:03.040 Canadian history and one of the dumbest ones, David Eby. It's just quite astounding. So anytime 0.99
00:01:09.000 a Conservative government gets elected, this is a good thing. And they want a majority.
00:01:13.460 Thankfully, the people of British Columbia woke up. Now, what was I initially thinking when I
00:01:18.240 woke up this morning, and this is, I guess, maybe the way I think differently. I think that David
00:01:22.480 Eby has now the, has the title of the biggest loser in Canadian political history. I think he 0.83
00:01:28.860 just eclipsed Pierre Polyev after losing in the election last year, which was a total fail. So
00:01:35.620 Polyev probably thanking David Eby for knocking him off of the top spot. I was thinking of other,
00:01:41.020 other fails when it comes to Canadian politics as well. When Eby called this election
00:01:48.200 several weeks back, I immediately thought of David Peterson. For those of you not in Ontario
00:01:54.540 and old enough, David Peterson was a liberal premier in Ontario. And he called an election
00:01:59.480 back in 1990, just a little over two years into his mandate, thinking he could beat the
00:02:04.680 Conservatives. It was Mike Harris, I believe, was the leader of the Conservatives at the time. And
00:02:09.000 Bob Ray, who was the leader of the NDP, and he lost. Bob Ray got in and really screwed up Ontario
00:02:15.420 badly. That was one. I thought of another one, the Progressive Conservative Party wipeout in 93
00:02:19.800 when Kim Campbell was prime minister, the only one, two seats. And the other one thing I could
00:02:23.740 think of off the top of my head, there are probably others, Joe Clark, who was the prime
00:02:27.760 minister. Yeah, Joe who back in 1980, who miscalculated he was prime minister for nine
00:02:32.660 months, allowed the liberals under Pierre Trudeau to get back in with a majority government. So
00:02:37.200 So EB, now the biggest loser in Canadian political history. That's the other thing 0.92
00:02:41.480 I was thinking about when I heard this this morning. So Polly, I'm probably happy today
00:02:45.320 that EB takes the crown. Now, when I got up this morning, my wife was awake. She hadn't
00:02:50.340 gone to sleep yet. I was waking up. And I said to her, oh, the Conservatives won in British
00:02:56.680 Columbia. And she had an interesting perspective on this as well. My wife is a very smart person.
00:03:01.220 She said, well, now Mark Carney can ignore all three Western provinces at the same time.
00:03:07.200 he had to pay lip service to David Eby, who ideologically was closer to him. Now he can
00:03:12.980 just ignore all of the West. And that's what she said to me this morning. Interesting that she
00:03:17.200 would say something like that. She's probably right. Now, what am I thinking about this from 0.99
00:03:22.980 the standpoint of Alberta? Well, anytime there's a friendly government next door, I think that's
00:03:28.420 a good thing. I think that the government here and the UCP government under Danielle Smith,
00:03:33.320 at this time, at least, can work with the BC conservatives. I think that's a good thing.
00:03:38.640 But does this change anything at all? Does it? I don't know. How do you put the genie back into
00:03:45.120 the bottle? And it's a pretty nasty looking genie. What David Eby's done over the last several years
00:03:50.960 has been catastrophic for British Columbia. I often say liberals make the mess and the
00:03:56.340 conservatives have to come in and clean it up. And the problem with conservative governments
00:04:00.560 So what happens with conservative governments is they come in and they have to make some really tough decisions.
00:04:07.260 And that might be cutting back on, you know, cutting back on social services and things like that to get the books in order.
00:04:13.540 And very soon the people don't like that and they vote the people in who made the mess in the first place.
00:04:17.820 So Mr. Dirksen's got a real mess to clean up in British Columbia right now.
00:04:21.880 It is a huge mess.
00:04:24.880 The other thing from an Alberta standpoint is this.
00:04:27.660 What does this mean for a pipeline to the West Coast?
00:04:30.560 I was thinking about that because, you know, we want to get our natural resources to the coast.
00:04:37.220 And we now have a British Columbia government that is conservative, but David Eby was very
00:04:43.060 much against that. He talked about not being a proponent for a pipeline, meaning an investor
00:04:48.020 in the pipeline. We already own a pipeline meeting the Canadian government. And he was right in that
00:04:52.860 effect. Carney came in here not long ago, made a deal with David Eby to basically hand over some
00:04:59.500 of the profits from Alberta's oil to British Columbia. You might say that's fair, but we don't
00:05:04.760 put taxes and get profits out of BC shipping things through Alberta by train, which happens
00:05:10.540 on a daily basis. This was something that we were against. Now, as far as the pipeline to the West
00:05:15.380 Coast, do I want one? Yes. Do I want this one? No. And I don't think any Canadian should want
00:05:22.360 the pipeline that's been proposed by Mark Carney and Danielle Smith. Danielle Smith is on record
00:05:28.040 saying? If the government has to pay for a pipeline, that would be failure. Having to build
00:05:32.180 another pipeline with government money as being a success. It would be, I think, a failure of the
00:05:37.140 exercise. Ladies and gentlemen, you are paying for a pipeline, another pipeline to the West Coast,
00:05:43.460 if it ever happens, which I don't think it will because the genie is out of the bottle there in
00:05:47.900 another way. This doesn't fix things. You're on the hook for, what is it, 35 to 43 billion dollars
00:05:56.240 for a pipeline. And I don't want to pay for a pipeline like this. You know, here's what you
00:06:01.720 need to understand if you live in the rest of the country. And I live in Alberta. And I remember
00:06:07.280 when Carney came here and made the pipeline in the national interest. The announcement that day
00:06:11.900 was it's in the national interest. It took him six months to come to that decision for a pipeline.
00:06:18.540 It would have taken you about two minutes to do that. But he came here and he said it was in the
00:06:23.120 national interest. And I remember I was driving out to my friend Tanya Clemens place that day.
00:06:28.400 I did a video with her from her combine, beautiful place to the Southeast of Calgary. And I went out
00:06:34.940 there and I stopped at the side of the road and I was waiting for the investment. I was waiting for
00:06:39.060 Danielle Smith to announce they had an investor. So the Canadian taxpayers didn't have to pay for
00:06:43.400 that. And it never happened. In fact, if there was an investor in a pipeline here from Alberta to the
00:06:51.780 British Columbia coast. Don't you think Danielle Smith and the federal government would have
00:06:55.580 announced that maybe last week, just prior to the referendum? Don't you think that would have
00:07:01.900 been very strategic of the forever Canadian side or the Canadian side in our referendum to announce
00:07:07.900 a pipeline investor then? But they didn't because there is no investor.
00:07:14.680 I don't think this changes much at all. We may have a friendly government to our West now,
00:07:20.200 but it doesn't get us through the fact that most of British Columbia, or more and more of it all 1.00
00:07:24.640 the time, is being handed over to indigenous groups, who I think are going to get in the way,
00:07:29.380 and we've already had indications that that is going to happen. There's been news stories already 1.00
00:07:35.080 about it. I might grab a few after I record this and put them on the screen. They're going to get
00:07:39.100 in the way, as are environmental groups. This will be held up for years. In fact, this pipeline,
00:07:43.860 if it ever gets built, I think the earliest it could be finished is about six years from now.
00:07:49.220 This is how slow, it's like glacial the way things move in Canada. So we may have a friendly
00:07:54.700 government in British Columbia right now. And there's more to this. I just woke up, you know,
00:07:59.700 I woke up around two o'clock. So an hour and a half, I've been thinking about this. I'll probably
00:08:03.980 have more thoughts on this, but we may have a friendly government out to the West of us right
00:08:08.720 now, which I think is a good thing, which will benefit my province in Alberta. I think there
00:08:12.380 are benefits to this and we'll find out what they are. No doubt, Mr. Dirksen, congratulations again,
00:08:18.380 this man seemed rather reasonable. That's why people voted for him. They didn't like that EB
00:08:23.080 had gone to this election early, but Mr. Dirksen will probably have plenty in common with Premier
00:08:28.120 Daniel Smith in Alberta. I think that's a good thing, but you always have to remember if you
00:08:33.700 live anywhere in Canada, and I live in Alberta, okay? I'm wearing my Wexit hat today, by the way,
00:08:39.140 which means Western exit. Now, maybe all three provinces can get together so we can get the hell
00:08:45.380 out of Dodge, but we'll talk about that later. But you have to remember from a Western standpoint,
00:08:51.440 the threat wasn't really to the West, it was here.
00:09:03.800 For somebody like me that lives out West, the threat is always to the East, and that is Ottawa.
00:09:10.000 Until we get rid of the liberal government in Ottawa, things aren't going to get better out
00:09:15.300 West. And as my wife says, he can probably just ignore Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia
00:09:20.660 because we're all now conservative governments. But here's the other thing. I'm looking down the
00:09:24.840 road here that frightens me. It really frightens me. I've been thinking about this a lot this week.
00:09:29.520 And in particular, it popped into my head on Monday night when I was at a watch party for
00:09:34.520 the referendum. I looked up on the map they were putting on the screen for the news coverage. And
00:09:39.600 whenever a part of the province turned forever Canadian, meaning the side that wants to stay in
00:09:46.420 Canada, they would put it up there in red, which seems appropriate, red, the color of Canada.
00:09:51.080 But when I looked up there, I saw liberal red because that's the thing that really concerns me.
00:09:56.480 I mentioned David Peterson, 1990, going early and losing to the NDP. We've got David Eby with
00:10:02.780 this major fail within the last 12 hours or so, losing to the Conservatives. I'm concerned that
00:10:08.820 Mark Carney is going to go to a federal election, probably not before Christmas, likely after,
00:10:14.020 soon after automotive tariffs come in. And he'll concoct a reason to go to a federal election
00:10:18.880 and he'll turn some ridings here in Alberta to the Liberal Party, because I think that's how
00:10:24.260 far things have gone in this country with the Trump derangement syndrome. That's the thing
00:10:28.700 that really scares me. So congratulations to Lorne Dirksen, majority win for the Conservatives.
00:10:34.120 always a good thing when a conservative government wins, but I don't think it changes a lot here in
00:10:39.040 Alberta, and that's my concern. Thank you very much for watching. A little different this morning.
00:10:43.760 I'll have to look at this a little bit more and analyze it a bit more. Again, I don't know a lot
00:10:48.100 about politics in British Columbia. All I know is any time the left loses, it makes me a happy man.
00:10:55.180 Thanks for watching. If you like this video, give it a thumbs up, subscribe to the channel,
00:10:59.280 ring the bell for notifications. I'll see you in the next one.
