00:00:00.000 hi it's john and welcome to the channel tuesday december the 23rd i hope you're having a great
00:00:08.980 start to your tuesday merry christmas to you happy holidays as well and i am so pleased to have
00:00:16.500 my guest you've seen him before here on my channel the ceo of the alberta prosperity project
00:00:22.860 mitch sylvester with an especially large grin on his face today mitch i don't know if everybody's
00:00:29.220 giving you any applause but to you and the alberta prosperity project i want to give you some
00:00:33.220 applause today what a day it was yesterday you got approved you got accepted for uh i guess the
00:00:40.240 signature campaign tell us about it and how you're feeling right now well it's been a pretty crazy
00:00:44.420 week um but with bill with them changing the law on us uh with going from uh you know what we were
00:00:52.140 assured that we were not going to win that court case uh after listening to justice frisbee and then
00:00:57.200 um the uh conservative government changing the rules so that the citizens initiative act could
00:01:02.860 actually be that the citizens initiative act so now they're going to give us the opportunity to
00:01:07.640 actually have a voice in the state in the future of the province and i really think it's uh it's
00:01:12.820 it's awesome i think it's democracy at its best uh if they allow it to play out uh the way uh the
00:01:18.640 rules are set i wasn't expecting this yesterday i think it was maybe the 12th or the 13th when you
00:01:24.840 um submitted uh the question again right around there i was expecting at least 30 days and boy
00:01:31.000 it was 10. did you expect it to come yesterday this quick well no not at all as a matter of fact
00:01:36.160 i gained a total surprise yeah you know just like i got a call on bill 14 at four o'clock in the
00:01:42.080 afternoon i had no idea anything about it um but then you know what and it's just gone like quickly
00:01:47.800 since then so um i mean there's obvious evidence that government can move quickly if they choose
00:01:52.560 uh so yeah that started like in early december and now here we are uh 20 days later uh you know
00:02:00.120 we're into two different steps of the process and now uh on our way to the last one so you know what
00:02:05.820 uh we couldn't ask for more no i mean basically we have to be very thankful that we're given the
00:02:12.400 opportunity to do the work and the opportunity to bring the information to albertans and the
00:02:16.780 opportunity to have all albertans choose on something that i think is an absolutely non-partisan
00:02:21.740 subject i think every albertan will benefit from from uh going down the path that we're proposing
00:02:26.840 i really do i i certainly do as well so what is january 2nd i read that date yesterday what's the
00:02:33.100 significance of that well january 2nd is when elections alberta is going to be able to start
00:02:37.660 certifying or approving our canvassers so so what we're asking alberta prosperity and everybody
00:02:43.480 is by tomorrow morning we're going to have a link uh we actually would like to have everybody in
00:02:48.660 alberta be a canvassers so what we'd like you to do is just go to our link which is going to be
00:02:54.120 on the new stay free alberta uh web page is what we're going to call our campaign
00:02:59.800 and and so uh we're going to have that set up by tomorrow i hope and then we'll have every we'll
00:03:06.000 have a place there for you to donate money to us which is going to be absolutely crucial based on
00:03:10.860 the new rules so we're starting at ground zero with nothing uh so your contribution is not only going
00:03:17.300 to be very much appreciated and it's going to be very needed and we'll have rules around that
00:03:22.040 there's there's rules around it so the rules will be clear uh on our website uh you know or our landing
00:03:27.940 page on on that particular subject and we'll we'll get that information out to people but yeah so you
00:03:33.520 know what we have the opportunity to go out there talk to people uh we're going to continue our town
00:03:38.520 halls yeah you know we're we're all over alberta calgary out of 26 i think is going to be a big kickoff
00:03:44.720 for that area we're looking 26th of january we're looking forward to that oh yeah yes and we have
00:03:49.920 a lot of room uh there's going to be about 6 500 seats there so we're hoping to fill the hall and i
00:03:55.880 really believe we will so if that's the case then we're going to you know take extend that into all
00:04:01.820 of the uh bigger communities uh so that we we have the opportunity to talk to a lot of people at once
00:04:07.360 and you know what sign them up as canvassers so that they can get our message out and uh you know
00:04:12.720 get as many people as we can signed up to this uh initiative we're i was talking to the other day
00:04:17.980 there's an event i'm going to be at on january 10th um regarding the independence movement it's going to
00:04:23.000 be exciting and there's so many more of those coming up um we're talking the other day about
00:04:27.160 the amount of money that might be needed for this because certainly the other side is going to have
00:04:30.900 a campaign i'm assuming against us to try to get people to vote in the opposite direction to what we
00:04:36.400 really want here can i just spell a myth here mitch you're making a fortune running around the
00:04:41.620 province um every night of the week well going out and talking to people aren't you so you know
00:04:48.520 the thing the thing that people have to understand about this is that first of all i'm not making
00:04:52.920 a wage uh app is covering expenses which is gas money hotels and meals uh that's exactly what i'm
00:04:59.820 making so i just want you to compute this i bought a brand new truck in march it's got 72 000 kilometers
00:05:06.760 on it so if i'm getting paid gas money and meals and expense are they going to factor in the
00:05:11.940 depreciation on my brand new truck right yeah i mean and i my adult though when i had before it
00:05:17.960 uh doing the same thing with alberta pension and never got a nickel for that so we did 100 town halls
00:05:24.260 with alberta pension and never got paid uh so now at least in the situation i'm at now i'm getting
00:05:29.700 expenses covered which is really nice i appreciate that and that's all i want yeah so so you know what
00:05:35.200 for me that's fine i'm in a position where that's enough but uh the whole thing is is that uh this
00:05:40.580 is not about money except for the people of alberta it's not about money for me uh it i mean
00:05:47.240 eventually maybe if i get an increase in pension maybe that'll be the case but right now it's about
00:05:52.500 the fact that alberta's getting a really raw deal it's about the fact that we're really looking down
00:05:59.940 the throat of a very dangerous ally enemy here i really believe the enemy is at the gates i really
00:06:06.540 believe that our freedoms are being challenged i if you look at the bills that are coming in from
00:06:11.700 the federal government one after the other they're all nonsensical and stuff that you know they're
00:06:16.380 proposing stuff that would never ever that i would have never thought a canadian government would
00:06:21.580 ever propose so i really believe we have a very strong argument uh to show people that hey this
00:06:27.040 isn't the canada that you grew up in this isn't the canada that i grew up in we're we're not
00:06:31.940 leaving canada canada's leaving us uh and we believe in my heart i really honestly believe this
00:06:37.780 if we save alberta and i know we can uh then you know what we can help the rest of canada save
00:06:42.680 themselves and i really believe that you know that may sound dramatic but there's no drama here this
00:06:47.420 is absolutely what's happening if anything we're underplaying it we're not overplaying it and it's a
00:06:53.740 you know i mean you don't have to go far i'm not by myself uh by sharing this opinion so if people
00:06:58.640 by after they attend our town halls don't believe that this is real uh then that's their choice right
00:07:03.860 this is a democracy they have a vote we have a vote and let's hope that uh once they hear what we have
00:07:09.420 to say that they'll actually think that maybe we should you know err on the side of caution and vote
00:07:14.780 for an independent of it i like to ask people who are kind of skeptical and i've talked i talked to
00:07:20.140 people about this and they say why are you why do you want this and i said well why don't you um i
00:07:24.840 want to be positive as possible i think and moving forward i think that's important how can people
00:07:29.760 benefit from this mitch but i say you know knowing everything that's going on right now with with
00:07:33.980 canada with the cost of living with the fact that we're having issues getting pipelines through or the
00:07:38.620 province is talking about putting a pipeline to the south part of alberta to go across the united
00:07:43.160 states to get a pipeline to tidewater would you join canada now if you had the opportunity
00:07:48.380 would you really do that honestly and that's the question i asked him and it's a good way to start
00:07:52.680 up a conversation here you know i i was wondering you know i was looking at um your x feed yesterday
00:07:59.780 hopefully i can bring it up here and you you tweeted out a picture about global news are you concerned
00:08:05.060 and i wrote down here are you prepared for the meltdown that's coming and i was thinking maybe
00:08:08.960 you know pardon pardon the expression but the shit show that might be coming now that this is getting
00:08:14.220 closer um we've talked about what the other side might do are you prepared for what might be coming
00:08:20.400 down the line because there's a picture i'll put it in post into this interview of the event we had
00:08:26.220 on october 25th and of course they had to include american flag there and of course that brings the idea
00:08:32.080 of 51st state up and this has got nothing to do with the 51st state match oh this has got nothing to
00:08:37.420 do with the 51st state even though our question has stayed in it and the reason that our question
00:08:42.580 had stayed in it is because that's exactly what it says in the clarity act and and our question
00:08:47.840 had to be foolproof and as history is now showing us it was right yeah yeah we got we got to the next
00:08:55.600 level uh they challenged our last question uh based on uh you know whatever the fact that it was going
00:09:01.300 to violate people's rights by asking a question which i think is ridiculous but however that's my
00:09:06.300 personal opinion um so i really believe that in order for us to move this forward we took the wording
00:09:11.980 of that question right out of the clarity so that let's let's dispel the myth that this has any
00:09:16.780 connection to the united states because if you look it up in a dictionary state and country have
00:09:22.440 very much the same definition actually state is a little clearer uh if anything so there's many nations
00:09:28.700 in the world that are nation state and that's what we're going to be that doesn't tie us to the u.s
00:09:33.220 so just wanted to make that very clear just to start with the other thing is is that i've had
00:09:38.100 the opportunity to talk to americans in government and uh they're of the opinion and it would be an
00:09:44.480 almost impossible task to include another nation state another state into the u.s right now based
00:09:52.100 on the way their politics is built because they're going to need democrats to approve it and the democrats
00:09:57.620 are never going to improve uh approve another solidly republican state which is what alberta would be
00:10:02.680 uh so just understand that and and why would we want to go from one devil to the next when we could
00:10:09.480 absolutely run our own stuff and uh be 100 independent of either the canadian government
00:10:14.960 and the u.s government and you know what happens to us if they elect another democrat uh in the next
00:10:21.220 term like we're not wanting to deal with that we never want to deal with that again on either side
00:10:24.920 they can elect all the liberals they want in the east and if we're an independent alberta have at it
00:10:30.060 we don't care we'll just run our own stuff and that's the whole idea we are annexed in the first
00:10:34.580 place we didn't have a choice so so now uh we're wanting a choice on whether we want to join
00:10:39.720 confederation or not and you know what i think there's a lot of albertans that want out i was
00:10:44.820 talking the other day i was saying to people i won't i won't keep you much longer i know you're busy but
00:10:48.600 talking to people the other day and i said if you were asked to ask people who are wanting an
00:10:53.720 independent alberta maybe their top three things i think every one of them would say
00:10:57.660 uh we're tired of paying equalization payments we're tired of quebec getting a lot of our money
00:11:03.660 the story came out that they're getting about half of all equalization payments it's it's an amazing
00:11:08.340 amount of money it's being siphoned right from the western part of canada into the eastern part of
00:11:13.120 canada canada and you know i was thinking about the not 51 mitch but i was thinking about 61
00:11:18.420 i was thinking about 61 because if you go back four years in this province there was a referendum here
00:11:24.420 and 61 of the people in this province voted to end equalization payments to the rest of canada
00:11:32.200 because they're tired of giving money i think for the most part to quebec and if we could get a large
00:11:38.400 percentage of those people who need to understand it's never going to happen the way things are right
00:11:43.240 now in canada and the only way that can happen is if alberta becomes an independent state a country of
00:11:49.480 its own okay so democracy democracy our confederation is working exactly the way it's
00:11:56.560 supposed to so once everybody understands that we have six senators and we have 4.4 million people
00:12:03.620 and the ameritimes have 30 senators and they have 2.2 million people that once you understand that very
00:12:09.700 simple fact they can change that in a heartbeat they can flip that around they can say okay alberta gets
00:12:17.260 30 senators or maritime ships 15 so because based on that math that would be reasonable right right so
00:12:25.160 so what i'm saying is that and and the other house it's the same thing they they don't want alberta to
00:12:31.080 have power because in 1905 they decided that alberta is going to fund the east and that's never changed
00:12:36.820 and the fact that quebec brought quebec up with the equalization well they get to not put their biggest
00:12:43.280 industry in the equation so if they don't put the income from hydro quebec in there well that makes
00:12:48.060 them have not province right so that cannot be fair like if you're if you're in a buying group
00:12:53.460 in stores i allude to this all the time if you're in a group that's supposed to make everybody more
00:12:57.640 prosperous which is what confederation is supposed to do it's absolutely supposed to be a better deal
00:13:02.380 for everybody concerned and as a group you buy together or do whatever you need to do or build
00:13:08.340 together or grow together so that the whole group benefits that would be that would be remarkable we
00:13:13.640 wouldn't be having this conversation but alberta it's a one-way flow out of alberta and to the to
00:13:20.320 the extent that we're going to have 35 to 40 billion dollar a year surplus now that is a lot of money it is
00:13:27.800 you you can build a world-class hospital for a billion dollars and that would be you know 35 of
00:13:35.600 them annually just understand that i mean i don't know if that computes uh people don't understand
00:13:40.020 how much that money is and people are going to have to come to the grips to grips with the fact
00:13:45.420 that what's happening in the east is not only anti-alberta it's anti-canada and it's not hard to
00:13:52.960 to show it yeah i mean they're continuing continuing to run deficits and they're sabotaging our biggest
00:14:00.700 industries so i want to understand something how can you continue to run 30 40 50 billion dollar
00:14:06.720 deficits year after year after year after year and you're borrowing more and more money paying more
00:14:12.340 and more interest on it and yet you sabotage our biggest industry and you don't allow us to
00:14:17.280 generate money to pay those bills so if you're not allowing a payback and you're actually just
00:14:24.800 borrowing you're consciously trying to break the country there's there's no other way to explain it
00:14:30.300 if anybody that's in business wants to explain to me how you can continue to borrow money and then
00:14:34.640 shut your revenue stream off uh how that ever works uh with interest i'd be very interested to see how
00:14:41.000 that could possibly work so if unless they change their tack uh there's absolutely no other way to say
00:14:48.220 this they're trying to bankrupt the country period and once you understand that alberta's part of that
00:14:53.940 we don't have to participate in that we can once we leave that mess uh we can control our own
00:15:00.020 borders make our own get away from liberal policies and get away from all the nonsense that they're
00:15:05.600 doing over there we can get away from their taxation away from their policies our people could be
00:15:09.320 immediately richer and we would have a chance to control our own pipelines like say for example
00:15:15.100 this pipeline to the south we could negotiate with the americans as alberta being a country
00:15:19.680 but we could we cannot do it as alberta being a province that's so so just saying so if that's the
00:15:26.140 case how are we possibly going to move forward when they keep inventing reasons why we can't pull
00:15:31.200 oil out of the ground in alberta yet everybody else in the world is selling more oil than they
00:15:35.020 were the year before does that make sense yeah you know when when people ask me as well why i want
00:15:40.800 independence i said we won't have to ask for permission of ottawa to do things anymore in this
00:15:44.880 province and i think that's a big part of it for me now um just a final question for you
00:15:50.780 where do i sign when can i sign when you figure i'll be able to put my john hancock down there
00:15:57.080 or my john bolton in this place on a petition because i'm so excited i can hardly wait to do that
00:16:02.700 so when can people expect to do that for maybe the first day so so john let me let me help you out
00:16:08.240 here yeah i want you to become a canvasser oh yeah for sure yeah i want you that's the first thing
00:16:13.340 i want you to do and we're going to make that available to you tomorrow so i want you to go out
00:16:17.640 there and i want everybody that's listening to go out there because everybody has three or four or
00:16:22.300 five or ten people that they can actually get to sign on this based on the fact that they know these
00:16:28.520 people and it's and no one else can get at them so this is going to be the way that we can win this
00:16:33.540 so the first thing you have to do and i'll answer your question the first thing you have to do
00:16:37.200 is you have to become a canvasser and you have to talk to people you know and get them to sign and
00:16:41.300 or take a step forward and become canvassers and and then the other thing you need to do is to give
00:16:46.120 us five ten twenty fifty dollars whatever everybody give us something and we'll we'll we'll do it
00:16:50.640 whatever you can afford would be fantastic so then when we get our canvassers approved
00:16:55.400 which is going to be after the second of january uh when elections alberta comes back to work
00:17:01.680 then once our canvassers are approved and our petitions are out there then you will be able to
00:17:06.440 start signing i believe early january 5th 6th 7th somewhere in that area great good good to hear
00:17:13.780 because they're on holidays now right yeah and i just want to ask you a question a coincidence
00:17:19.960 that they're on holidays the day after they approve our question i'm so happy i'm not i'm not bitching
00:17:27.120 about it i'm just saying it's a coincidence so it's just everybody's so anxious to get going
00:17:31.980 um that this is just going to hold us up and it's not us it's because of the fact that elections
00:17:36.860 alberta is actually on christmas break and that they won't be able to approve our canvassers until
00:17:41.540 after the new year but we don't start till january 2nd so it's actually not going to affect us
00:17:46.720 okay and and just to let you know the alberta prosperity project and mitch are working over
00:17:51.000 the holidays it could be a lot of work to do between now and then i'm assuming correct
00:17:55.060 you know what john it doesn't seem like work yeah you know we're i've been at it since early this
00:18:01.140 morning and uh you know there's such an energy such an excitement uh out there amongst our group
00:18:07.200 um you know what there is there's hope yeah i i think i think i think that's the word that
00:18:15.460 everybody has to come to grips with here yeah up until you know very recently there's a lot of people
00:18:21.840 in this province myself included uh we're not very happy with the path um you know stuff that never
00:18:29.000 would have occurred to me before i'm wondering where i was going to move to if this didn't work
00:18:34.100 uh we're happy to stay here we're happy to participate in the growth of alberta uh you know
00:18:40.420 in in any capacity um and we're happy to you know to to do things that are going to benefit the rest of
00:18:46.300 us but there's a true hope now amongst our people amongst app people and i really believe that amongst
00:18:53.520 a lot of people in alberta that are having a harder time than people realize and i think we can help
00:18:58.860 get them out of that and the other thing is is that there's hope for the future for our kids and our
00:19:03.260 men kids and i think that because of that we're very energized we'll leave it at that it's a great
00:19:09.780 way to end this for sure again congratulations um we appreciate all the work you're doing the app is
00:19:15.020 doing there's so many volunteers out there um you've been working on this for a long long time you know i
00:19:20.540 i can't believe and you said it off the top it's hard to believe what's happened just since the
00:19:25.160 beginning of this year it really is just amazing what's happened in this year well it's amazing what's
00:19:30.160 happened in the last 10 days well yeah yeah and and you know we were before you know eight or nine
00:19:36.960 months ago i had nothing to do with app either so this is all brand new to me and i'm very happy that
00:19:42.520 uh you know it's such a great group there and uh they're supporting us and me and everything that
00:19:47.360 we're doing and and and the path that we're taking and you know i have to thank everybody that's
