Summary

This video is inspired by a recent interview I did with Corey Morgan on his new book, "We Must Promote a Brighter West: The Case for Western Independence." Corey is a voice in the independence movement here in Alberta, and I think Corey is one of the most important voices in the movement for western independence.

00:00:00.000 Hi, it's John and welcome to the channel. It is 5.43 a.m. May the 30th. Hope you're having a great day today and something a little bit different today. I prepared something.
00:00:11.940 This video today is inspired by Corey Morgan. Now many of you, close to 10,000 of you, have watched my interview with Corey that I posted yesterday on this channel talking about Alberta independence.
00:00:24.340 I think Corey is one of the most important voices in the independence movement here in Alberta. He wrote a book on it, for goodness sakes.
00:00:32.140 But this video today is not inspired by my interview with him. It's inspired by another video he's done within the last couple of days.
00:00:41.860 And I'm not sure if I'm any inspiration for that video. I'm not going to take credit for it, but I'm certainly guilty of this.
00:00:48.380 The name of his video is called, We Must Promote a Brighter West. Western Independence Advocates Must Start Campaigning Positively.
00:00:57.180 And I have not done that. I've been guilty of being very negative when it comes to campaigning for independence.
00:01:03.700 Plenty of videos on this channel will prove it.
00:01:06.520 So, I've been thinking about this for a couple of days.
00:01:10.120 I wrote something, and I hope you will allow me to read it, because it's impossible for me to memorize all of this.
00:01:18.420 It's not very long, so please bear with me.
00:01:22.320 Hi, Canada. I hold you no ill will.
00:01:26.780 I once, like you, loved your country.
00:01:29.140 But the love affair ended when I came west and settled in Calgary.
00:01:33.700 I'm asked often, would you move back east?
00:01:35.880 My answer is always, not a chance.
00:01:38.180 There is a freedom you feel the moment you touch down in Alberta.
00:01:42.920 You see, there's an independence in people here that goes beyond any vote.
00:01:47.320 It is in your heart when you become an Albertan, a Westerner.
00:01:51.360 You change for the better.
00:01:54.500 More people come to Alberta than any other province.
00:01:58.240 Ever ask why?
00:01:59.900 The campaign to discredit people like me and thousands of others has begun.
00:02:04.360 We're called traitors, whiners, the far right, and even worse.
00:02:09.420 No, this movement reaches all kinds of people from different backgrounds and ideologies.
00:02:15.500 We're not whining.
00:02:17.300 We're not complainers.
00:02:18.500 We're not like the child that takes his ball home when he doesn't get his way.
00:02:22.580 We are not leaving because of an election result.
00:02:26.000 We are self-sufficient.
00:02:27.800 We are hardworking.
00:02:29.500 We are generous people, and we are fed up.
00:02:32.400 Many people who want independence from your country have felt the sting of Ottawa and the East.
00:02:38.760 Many have seen friends and family put out of work because of the actions of politicians who get elected in Ottawa, and get elected again.
00:02:46.320 Many have seen complete office buildings emptied because of federal actions.
00:02:50.260 Many know the decades of promise of change, only to be disappointed again and again by the politicians who ignore us, ignore us except for our wealth.
00:03:01.980 What do independence people want?
00:03:04.680 Well, I don't speak for everyone, but here is a short, probably incomplete list.
00:03:10.080 One, freedom, freedom to speak without fear of censorship, freedom to defend ourselves, freedom to build our economy unencumbered by Ottawa, freedom to choose the car we want to drive, our pension plan, medical procedures, our police force, our trading partners, freedom from resource-stifling federal government regulations, and yes, even freedom to use a plastic straw.
00:03:38.220 Two, prosperity, Alberta contributes, and has contributed more to Canada than it will ever get back.
00:03:47.800 As we run deficits here, our money gets distributed elsewhere, only to have ungrateful recipients scoff at us in return.
00:03:55.720 No more.
00:03:57.120 Limited government.
00:03:59.060 Ronald Reagan said, quote,
00:04:00.560 The government that is best, governs least, unquote.
00:04:04.920 As the state grows, the individual shrinks.
00:04:08.200 We believe in personal and fiscal responsibility, the right to keep more of our money, and the inalienable rights of the individual.
00:04:15.560 And four, self-determination.
00:04:18.140 We believe in the right to our independence.
00:04:22.140 Leaving Canada doesn't mean any disrespect.
00:04:24.780 No, it means Alberta wants better, something it hasn't achieved and won't achieve by being shackled to Ottawa.
00:04:31.280 Leaving Canada doesn't mean we won't be friends, allies, trading partners.
00:04:37.060 There will always be a connection, geographically, economically, family.
00:04:44.780 Leaving means Alberta finally has grown up, left home, and gained its independence.
00:04:50.720 Thank you very much for watching.
00:04:54.240 I do appreciate it.
00:04:55.660 If you like the video, please share it.
00:04:58.780 Give it a thumbs up.
