00:00:00.000 I watched Pierre Polyev's Unity speech from Calgary yesterday, and I have to say I'm convinced
00:00:05.580 I'm leaving the independence movement. Just kidding. Let's talk about it.
00:00:15.300 Hi, it's John, and welcome to the channel. Tuesday, June the 9th, 4.32 a.m. I hope you're having a
00:00:20.680 great start to Tuesday with the big blue mug of coffee. I appreciate you being here. By the way,
00:00:25.280 If you haven't subscribed to the channel, if you would please click on subscribe, I would really
00:00:30.400 appreciate it. We're only 48,000 away from 100,000 subscribers here. So I can get a button. I'll put
00:00:37.200 it on the wall back there. Link in the description, Pierre Polyev's speech in Calgary yesterday
00:00:43.760 talking about unifying the country and a speech that went out to Canadians and Albertans on how
00:00:50.400 we have to stick together and Alberta should remain in Canada. I appreciate Mr. Polyev coming
00:00:56.940 to Alberta. He doesn't visit here very often. You know, I'm from Ontario. I've spent a lot more time
00:01:01.960 in Alberta than Pierre Polyev has over the last 20 years. He visits here occasionally. He didn't
00:01:08.760 even win his riding in Carleton. He is the MP for Battle River Crowfoot. You remember the by-election
00:01:13.980 from last year. And I don't want to be disrespectful to Mr. Polyev. I do appreciate him coming here.
00:01:19.340 But what I saw his speech as yesterday was a political speech.
00:01:23.440 His, you know, what does he say here?
00:01:25.320 It's a sovereign, stronger Alberta within a United Canada.
00:01:29.100 Has rings of what Danielle Smith talks about when she talks about Alberta staying in Canada.
00:01:34.660 But that was his speech from yesterday.
00:01:36.940 It was a political speech.
00:01:38.200 You know what was running through my mind when I was listening to this?
00:01:42.020 Lyrics to a song, a famous Streisand song.
00:01:45.380 memories like the corners of my mind, misty, water-colored memories of the way we were.
00:01:53.820 Were, of course, being in the past tense, because this is what Mr. Poliev's speech was about
00:01:58.680 yesterday. It was a speech about his great memories of Canada that used to be, and the Alberta that
00:02:04.380 used to be as well. This was a campaign speech yesterday from the man who has the most to lose
00:02:10.280 if Alberta leaves. 33, 34 seats in Alberta are conservative. I hope you don't mind I'm referring
00:02:16.280 to some notes. I actually took down 33 points from his speech. I'm not going to play any clips.
00:02:21.600 You can watch it if you like. Well done speech, about 27 minutes long. I'm going to refer to
00:02:26.940 some notes because I want to get to some thoughts here. So Mr. Poliev talked about the memories of
00:02:34.940 a great Canada. He talks about all of the issues that Alberta has with being in Canada. I appreciate
00:02:41.380 that. He realizes that we have some real grievances here. And he talks about how things can be better
00:02:48.500 and all of the great things that will happen and that are easily solved if we only have the correct
00:02:54.320 government in Ottawa. So, of course, very critical of the liberal government as he should be. He is
00:02:59.540 a conservative politician after all. But the things he talks about will only happen, and this
00:03:04.920 is what his point basically was, they'll only happen if he and the conservatives get back into
00:03:10.360 power. That's basically his message yesterday. Canadians want all the things Albertans want,
00:03:16.780 but we've got this government in Ottawa that's holding us back. Now, there's one thing,
00:03:21.620 there's a couple of things that he never really got to in this speech. Let's talk about one of
00:03:26.300 them. And it's about money. This isn't all about money. If you're living in the rest of the country
00:03:32.400 or somewhere around the world, Alberta leaving isn't always about money. There's lots of things,
00:03:37.840 gun confiscation, freedoms, things like this that really bother us when it comes to the way Ottawa
00:03:44.660 treats Alberta. But let's take a look at it from the standpoint of money. One of the things that
00:03:51.220 really concerns Albertans is the fact that Albertans contribute $25 billion every year
00:03:59.420 into what's called equalization. We are a half province in Alberta, and that money is distributed
00:04:05.380 to have-not provinces in the rest of the country, most of them in the East, particularly Quebec,
00:04:12.060 almost $14 billion. And Albertans want to end that. As a matter of fact, we voted in 2021
00:04:19.480 in a referendum when Jason Kenney was the premier here to end equalization payments. We want it
00:04:26.260 ended. We'd like to keep that money for ourselves to benefit Albertans, but it will never happen
00:04:31.280 because it will require constitutional change. And Jason Kenney found out he went to Trudeau
00:04:37.120 and the other provinces asking to sit down to talk about this, and they didn't even answer his
00:04:42.180 messages. So that will never end, even if Mr. Pierre Polyev gets into government and his
00:04:47.360 conservatives in Ottawa. Jason Kenney's plan, or sorry, Pierre Polyev's plan is Jason Kenney's
00:04:55.260 plan. If you go back and watch the debate he had with Keith Wilson a few weeks ago,
00:05:00.760 Kenney talked over and over again how we have to continue to try to negotiate to get a better deal
00:05:06.120 with Canada. This is what Albertans do, to try to get what Preston Manning wanted 40 years ago when
00:05:14.640 he said, the West wants in. That's four decades ago, and we're still not in. That's what Pierre
00:05:22.120 Paliyev wants to do. That's the Jason Kenney plan. The same thing, the status quo. What's
00:05:30.500 the definition of insanity? He talks about how we treat each other, and I wrote this down. I want
00:05:38.280 to read this to you. This is a kind of a synopsis of what he said, but he said, people who want
00:05:44.220 independents are not our enemies. They are our fellow citizens. Demonizing people who have lost
00:05:50.400 hope in Canada is no way to restore it. Name-calling, fear-mongering, and ostracizing
00:05:55.120 will only broaden the divide. We'll tell that to the people who went by us the other day when we
00:05:59.920 were handing out Cory Morgan signs who swore at us and gave us the finger, or the people who created
00:06:05.020 this document right here that is spreading around Alberta. Nothing here tells us why we should stay
00:06:10.860 in Canada, but it threatens us. It fear mongers us. And right here at number six, it talks about
00:06:17.040 how these great people who want us to remain in Canada will take away money from senior citizens
00:06:23.660 if we leave. This is what's being spread around Alberta right now. These people aren't getting
00:06:30.620 your message, Mr. Paul yet. How awful is that? You will be able to keep your CPP and OAS.
00:06:37.140 it's yours. You earned it. Listen, he says, Canadians should listen to Albertans. Mr.
00:06:44.800 Polyev, we don't even speak the same language anymore. It's almost like we're going back to
00:06:51.040 the 95 referendum where one side speak in English and the other side speaking French. We're speaking
00:06:56.740 Western. They're speaking Eastern. And then I wrote this down. Here's the message that I keep
00:07:02.900 trying to convey to people in this movement. We are being controlled. We are being manipulated,
00:07:08.140 denied, managed, strangled by an establishment in the East, in Ottawa, that sees Alberta as a
00:07:14.400 bank account. And they have more to lose than we do. They want to keep Albertans in their place,
00:07:21.260 seen but not heard, funding the establishment, but Albertans not benefiting from our hard work.
00:07:27.720 It's the suits, the bureaucrats, the pencil pushers, the establishment, the liberals in
00:07:33.280 Ottawa, in the East, dictating Alberta's future. And this is going to be the same thing we'll have
00:07:38.960 if Pierre Polyev is a leader of this country. It's always been that way, they tell us, so shut
00:07:45.200 up. It's the West providing the food and the East is eating it. Here's the cow picture that we've 0.98
00:07:54.460 seen so many times before, and this is true to this day. Well, not anymore, Mr. Polyev. 0.57
00:08:02.440 Here's what Mr. Polyev needs to understand. I wrote this down. You couldn't even win a slam
00:08:06.660 dunk election last year. The liberals outmaneuvered you. I voted for you and we continue to lose.
00:08:13.960 And I don't expect things to be different with a conservative government because there's always
00:08:18.400 a suffocating liberal government right around the corner to do exactly the same thing we've had.
00:08:24.040 They're called the natural ruling party for a reason, Mr. Polyev. Look at the history. They
00:08:29.820 always get back into power, and we've been waiting. The West wants in, but it hasn't happened.
00:08:36.080 You know what Mr. Polyev failed to provide for us in his 27-minute speech yesterday?
00:08:43.080 A reason for us to stay. Not a single reason other than memories, like the corners of our mind.
00:08:50.920 He tries to tug at your heartstrings by talking about soldiers and how we built this land over
00:08:57.540 the last 105 or so years, going back to 1905 when we joined Confederation. We tilled the soil. We
00:09:05.600 went out there and got the oil out of the ground. Well, we can't do these things anymore because we
00:09:10.780 have the liberal government and your government won't be much different. This is what we tell
00:09:15.060 people. Conservatives have to kowtow to the East in order to win seats, and Alberta's always left
00:09:22.040 out in the cold. What Mr. Paulyev's speech wants is to maintain the status quo. Is that an Albertan
00:09:30.080 thing to do? It isn't. Link in the description. You can watch his speech. Lots of reasons why we
00:09:37.940 should leave. He did not provide one reason why we should stay. Mr. Paulyev, I appreciate you
00:09:44.240 coming back to Alberta. You might want to visit again real soon. If you like this video, give it
00:09:49.560 a thumbs up, subscribe to the channel, ring the bell for notifications. I'll see you in the next one.
