00:00:01.000 Okay, a lot of you people last week followed on Facebook our challenges with our cat Smokey.
00:00:07.240 She had been very sick, but in the middle of last week she started to look better and
00:00:11.560 then things kind of took a turn for the worse and we got a call from the veterinarian's
00:00:15.560 office saying they needed to talk to us about some of the blood work we had done on her.
00:00:20.720 Some of the indicators in her liver were kind of concerning the veterinarian.
00:00:26.520 There was talk of irritable bowel syndrome, lymphoma, which is cancer, which scared the
00:00:33.380 death out of us and we were really concerned about her.
00:00:36.480 She wasn't eating, which is bad.
00:00:37.820 She dropped over 100 grams, which doesn't seem like a lot, but if you're a cat that weighs
00:00:41.900 about 8 pounds, it's quite a bit.
00:00:44.400 So we've got these injections we've got to give her, plus a pill, which is extremely difficult
00:00:49.140 to get into a cat.
00:00:50.840 So Sheila is setting things up and what exactly do we have for her, Sheila?
00:00:54.200 Prednisone.
00:00:55.200 Prednisone, which is a steroid.
00:00:57.200 So we give that to her.
00:00:58.200 We have an Appetite Enhancer.
00:00:59.200 Yeah, which actually works quite well, which we'll tell you about in just a second.
00:01:02.200 And we have two different types of antibiotics that have to find.
00:01:09.200 And we have antibiotics, okay.
00:01:11.200 So one of the antibiotics we give her is a pill because there was no injection for that.
00:01:17.380 It's the hardest thing to give to a cat, trust me.
00:01:19.500 She is pretty smart about keeping the pills in her mouth and then spitting them out later.
00:01:24.500 So that might be a bit of a struggle in just a few minutes.
00:01:26.500 We'll show you that in just a moment.
00:01:29.500 And then what happens is we have this drip bag, which you can see up here.
00:01:33.500 We give her 100 milliliters of that.
00:01:36.500 It's called sodium chloride.
00:01:37.500 And it's just basically water with a little bit of salt in it.
00:01:40.500 But one of the injections we give to her can sting very badly.
00:01:43.500 So it basically dilutes one of the injections we give her.
00:01:46.500 But it also gives her some liquids which keeps her hydrated, which hasn't been too much of a problem over the last few days.
00:01:52.500 She's actually drinking and eating quite a bit now.
00:01:55.500 And we'll give you an update on her in just a moment.
00:01:57.500 Okay, so here we are.
00:01:59.500 We're going to try to get this tiny little pill in her.
00:02:02.500 And we decided yesterday that a little bit of butter on it makes it harder for her to spit it out.
00:02:10.500 Because she can't get her tongue around it because it's a little too slippery.
00:02:12.500 So this is tough.
00:02:13.500 I kind of hold her and we try to get it into her mouth.
00:02:16.500 But she does not like this at all.
00:02:18.500 So, here we go.
00:02:20.500 Oh, see.
00:02:21.500 Missed.
00:02:22.500 It's okay, Small.
00:02:23.500 More butter.
00:02:24.500 It's okay.
00:02:25.500 A little more butter on there.
00:02:26.500 Okay, come on.
00:02:27.500 Okay, I'll hold her.
00:02:28.500 She's got a tongue going.
00:02:29.500 Yeah.
00:02:34.500 Come on, Small.
00:02:35.500 She put her foot in there.
00:02:37.500 I don't know where the pill is.
00:02:38.500 She hit her foot down.
00:02:40.500 Here.
00:02:41.500 She put her all over.
00:02:43.500 Where's the milk?
00:02:45.500 I don't know.
00:02:46.500 Did she eat it?
00:02:47.500 No.
00:02:48.500 Is it on her foot?
00:02:49.500 She got it.
00:02:50.500 Is it on her foot?
00:02:51.500 She's got butter all over her back.
00:02:54.500 I don't know where the pill is.
00:02:56.500 Well, we'll have the other cats.
00:02:59.500 We'll get her back there.
00:03:00.500 Grab another pill.
00:03:01.500 We'll find it.
00:03:02.500 Another pill.
00:03:03.500 It's a tough pill to swallow.
00:03:05.500 Sure it was.
00:03:06.500 Okay, so now here's the next process.
00:03:08.500 As we have to put the liquid into her back.
00:03:11.500 Do you want me to start that up?
00:03:13.500 Are we good?
00:03:14.500 Yeah.
00:03:15.500 Okay.
00:03:16.500 Stay down.
00:03:17.500 Good for her.
00:03:18.500 All right.
00:03:19.500 So now, Sheila feels on the back, the skin on her back.
00:03:24.500 Are you ready?
00:03:27.500 Okay.
00:03:28.500 And just sticks it in.
00:03:29.500 It doesn't really hurt her at all.
00:03:30.500 And then I take these caps off.
00:03:33.500 And I open this up.
00:03:36.500 We're dripping now.
00:03:38.500 Okay.
00:03:39.500 Okay.
00:03:40.500 So now I take these.
00:03:41.500 We got it.
00:03:42.500 Okay.
00:03:43.500 Smokey, okay.
00:03:44.500 Now I take these and stick them in here.
00:03:47.500 Good girl.
00:03:48.500 And we inject her.
00:03:49.500 Good girl.
00:03:50.500 One.
00:03:51.500 Inject her.
00:03:52.500 Careful.
00:03:53.500 With two.
00:03:54.500 And this last one.
00:03:55.500 Good girl.
00:03:56.500 It can hurt her.
00:03:57.500 That's why we give her the liquid.
00:03:58.500 So I kind of put this in a little bit.
00:03:59.500 I put a little bit in.
00:04:00.500 I back it up.
00:04:01.500 Bring in some water.
00:04:02.500 Some sodium chloride.
00:04:03.500 Give her a little bit more.
00:04:04.500 Back it off.
00:04:05.500 Give her a little bit more.
00:04:06.500 And that's all of it.
00:04:07.500 Now in order for us to get the liquid in quicker, I take the bag and come up here and give it
00:04:30.500 a little bit more oomph as it rolls downhill.
00:04:34.500 And there's just a little bit more to go.
00:04:35.500 Good girl.
00:04:36.500 You're almost done.
00:04:37.500 You can see we're.
00:04:38.500 Almost done, sweetie.
00:04:39.500 We're almost done.
00:04:40.500 Good girl.
00:04:41.500 Smokey.
00:04:42.500 No.
00:04:43.500 No.
00:04:44.500 No.
00:04:45.500 No.
00:04:46.500 No.
00:04:47.500 No.
00:04:48.500 Okay.
00:04:49.500 We got you.
00:04:50.500 I think we're done.
00:04:51.500 We're good?
00:04:52.500 Yeah.
00:04:53.500 We should be at 400 milliliters, right?
00:04:54.500 Roll off.
00:04:55.500 Roll off.
00:04:56.500 And that's it.
00:04:57.500 Yeah, because we.
00:04:58.500 Good girl.
00:04:59.500 Okay.
00:05:00.500 We're now a little bit below 400 milliliters now, so we're done.
00:05:03.500 So basically, that is the whole process.
00:05:09.500 And there's Smokey.
00:05:10.500 And let me just give you an update on her.
00:05:13.500 She is back to normal now.
00:05:15.500 All this process has really helped her.
00:05:17.500 She's eating like you would not believe because we're giving her a pill that makes her feel
00:05:21.500 much better.
00:05:22.500 And she's back to herself.
00:05:25.500 Like she's like the way she was normally.
00:05:27.500 She took about two days.
00:05:28.500 But all of a sudden, she started to eat.
00:05:30.500 Got very hungry.
00:05:31.500 Started drinking.
00:05:32.500 And is doing much, much better.
00:05:34.500 So we go back on Friday to get her blood work done again.
00:05:36.500 And hopefully those levels in her liver are down.
00:05:38.500 But we have a good feeling that she's feeling much better.
00:05:40.500 And as you can see, she's eating and feeling much better.
00:05:44.500 So thanks for all your good thoughts.
00:05:46.500 That's what we're doing every morning right now for a little while.
00:05:48.500 And we'll find out how long we have to continue with this when we talk to the vet on Friday.
00:05:52.500 We'll find out how long we have to do that on Friday.
