Okay, a lot of you people last week followed on Facebook our challenges with our cat Smokey.
00:00:07.240
She had been very sick, but in the middle of last week she started to look better and
00:00:11.560
then things kind of took a turn for the worse and we got a call from the veterinarian's
00:00:15.560
office saying they needed to talk to us about some of the blood work we had done on her.
00:00:20.720
Some of the indicators in her liver were kind of concerning the veterinarian.
00:00:26.520
There was talk of irritable bowel syndrome, lymphoma, which is cancer, which scared the
00:00:33.380
death out of us and we were really concerned about her.
00:00:37.820
She dropped over 100 grams, which doesn't seem like a lot, but if you're a cat that weighs
00:00:44.400
So we've got these injections we've got to give her, plus a pill, which is extremely difficult
00:00:50.840
So Sheila is setting things up and what exactly do we have for her, Sheila?
00:00:59.200
Yeah, which actually works quite well, which we'll tell you about in just a second.
00:01:02.200
And we have two different types of antibiotics that have to find.
00:01:11.200
So one of the antibiotics we give her is a pill because there was no injection for that.
00:01:17.380
It's the hardest thing to give to a cat, trust me.
00:01:19.500
She is pretty smart about keeping the pills in her mouth and then spitting them out later.
00:01:24.500
So that might be a bit of a struggle in just a few minutes.
00:01:29.500
And then what happens is we have this drip bag, which you can see up here.
00:01:37.500
And it's just basically water with a little bit of salt in it.
00:01:40.500
But one of the injections we give to her can sting very badly.
00:01:43.500
So it basically dilutes one of the injections we give her.
00:01:46.500
But it also gives her some liquids which keeps her hydrated, which hasn't been too much of a problem over the last few days.
00:01:52.500
She's actually drinking and eating quite a bit now.
00:01:55.500
And we'll give you an update on her in just a moment.
00:01:59.500
We're going to try to get this tiny little pill in her.
00:02:02.500
And we decided yesterday that a little bit of butter on it makes it harder for her to spit it out.
00:02:10.500
Because she can't get her tongue around it because it's a little too slippery.
00:02:13.500
I kind of hold her and we try to get it into her mouth.
00:03:19.500
So now, Sheila feels on the back, the skin on her back.
00:04:07.500
Now in order for us to get the liquid in quicker, I take the bag and come up here and give it
00:05:00.500
We're now a little bit below 400 milliliters now, so we're done.
00:05:17.500
She's eating like you would not believe because we're giving her a pill that makes her feel
00:05:34.500
So we go back on Friday to get her blood work done again.
00:05:36.500
And hopefully those levels in her liver are down.
00:05:38.500
But we have a good feeling that she's feeling much better.
00:05:40.500
And as you can see, she's eating and feeling much better.
00:05:46.500
That's what we're doing every morning right now for a little while.
00:05:48.500
And we'll find out how long we have to continue with this when we talk to the vet on Friday.
00:05:52.500
We'll find out how long we have to do that on Friday.
