00:01:34.680 elected. Very seldom are they chosen as actual senators because only conservative governments

00:01:42.560 choose our senators that are elected. When it's a liberal government, they pick people like Paula 0.94

00:01:48.980 Simons. Paula Simons, I believe, became a senator in 2018. She was chosen by Justin Trudeau. She went

00:01:56.440 on the Courtney Theriot show the other day on CHED in Edmonton. And for those of you who didn't hear

00:02:03.520 what she had to say, I'm going to act on this, folks. Here's her rant.

00:02:08.200 Well, you know, and I think to be blunt, and I will be blunt, I think a lot of the emotion that's

00:02:13.140 driving the Alberta Prosperity Project is pretty ugly. It's not about making an argument about

00:02:18.900 access to tidewater and pipelines. It's frankly xenophobic. It's frankly racist. It's frankly

00:02:25.580 misogynist. It's very anti-woman. It's about taking Alberta back to some kind of imaginary 1950s

00:02:35.040 world of, you know, women barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen. And I think it is virulently 1.00

00:02:43.560 When I heard these words come out of Ms. Simon's mouth on this radio program, it made me sick.

00:02:49.780 Particularly after attending an event like happened here in Calgary at the Queensland Community Center

00:02:56.500 on Saturday night. It was one of the most peaceful, loving, and friendly events I have ever been to.

00:03:08.080 of all sexual preferences. There were people there of all religions. And everybody was happy.

00:03:14.960 So, I heard what Ms. Simons had to say. And I thought, you know, there must be some kind of code

00:03:20.200 of conduct when it comes to people who are in the Senate. There must be. And there is.

00:03:26.280 So, here it is. The code. The Office of the Senate Ethics Officer. There is this segment at the

00:03:35.020 beginning that talks about purposes and principles. But let's read this part down here when it talks

00:03:40.160 about rules of conduct.

00:03:42.300 General conduct. A Senator's conduct shall uphold the highest standards of dignity inherent to the

00:03:49.300 position of Senator. A Senator shall refrain from acting in a way that could reflect adversely on

00:03:54.620 the position of Senator or the institution of the Senate. A Senator shall perform his or her

00:04:00.440 parliamentary duties and functions with dignity, honor, and integrity. A Senator shall refrain from

00:04:08.040 engaging in conduct that constitute harassment and violence. Does what Ms. Simons have to say deal

00:04:17.760 with harassment and violence? You can jump to your own conclusions. But I do not believe she is doing 0.96

00:04:23.180 her job with dignity, honor, and integrity. She is supposed to represent me. But she does not.

00:04:30.340 She disparages me. So, what am I going to do about it? Well, I'm going to write to the

00:05:02.720 millions of people who live in Alberta. This rant was based on the current independence movement in the

00:05:07.760 province. Ms. Simons said the following, quote,

00:05:47.940 goes on to make comments about Jewish family members and the Holocaust, suggesting the independence

00:05:53.600 movement is also anti-Semitic and also adds, quote, This movement begins with an argument of hatred,

00:06:00.380 unquote. As someone who has attended many events for the Alberta Prosperity Project,

00:06:06.200 Now Stay Free Alberta, none of what she says is true. People of all ages, races, sexual preferences,

00:06:12.200 and religions attend these meetings peacefully, and in friendship, everyone is welcome. From the web page

00:06:18.520 of your office, there is a code of conduct that must be upheld by senators, and here's what it says

00:06:24.800 right here. I just read this section to you. I conclude, Ms. Simons sullies the reputation and 0.97

00:06:33.080 dignity of the Senate and the position she holds. Her words, disparaging what could amount to millions

00:06:39.100 of Albertans she is supposed to represent, are abhorrent, disgraceful, and wrong. I am asking that

00:06:45.900 Ms. Simons write an apology letter to me and the people of Alberta for this behavior. I will then

00:06:51.060 read it to my 45,000 subscribers on my YouTube channel, many of whom want Alberta independence.

00:06:57.200 I also believe she should make a public statement, either on traditional media or social media,

00:07:02.600 with an apology for her behavior. I expect this to be addressed in a timely manner. Thank you,

00:07:43.680 following. Ms. Simons, surely you can't do a broad stroke and paint all of the people who are part of

00:07:49.220 the independence movement as racist, xenophobic, homophobic, and anti-Semitic. Surely you're not

00:07:55.580 saying that, Ms. Simons. That's what you should have said, Mr. Theriot. You should know better. You

00:08:01.480 should not be on the air unless you know that. You're supposed to have balance. You're supposed to

00:08:09.220 remain neutral. But you obviously believe that yourself, or you would have said something.
