00:00:00.000 next stop alberta independence
00:00:11.640 hi it's john and welcome to the channel 3 15 a.m sunday january the 11th i hope you're having a
00:00:23.040 great start to your sunday morning i hope you're having a wonderful weekend as well with the big
00:00:27.640 blue mug of coffee of course and at this point of the morning i am running on adrenaline i don't
00:00:34.680 think i got to sleep until closer to 11 o'clock last night had a very long day yesterday and i've
00:00:41.220 been up for more than an hour i think downloading some video from the event that happened last night
00:00:46.960 at the queensland community center here in southeast calgary i was an mc moderator last night and
00:00:55.160 it's unbelievable i've never seen anything like it i got an i got a text message from
00:01:01.620 heather field one of the organizers of the event last night uh early yesterday earlier on the 10th
00:01:08.580 and she said john i think we're going to get slammed with people i said good but i had no idea how many
00:01:13.020 people were going to show up i'd like to thank ron friedman for sending me these pictures this is
00:01:18.260 for the most part outside the building picture of me with ron there as well and we had people lined up
00:01:24.180 for what seemed like blocks outside the building to get into this event and to sign the petition
00:01:30.400 which i was able to do last night here's a picture of me doing that so i'm so excited i've got my name
00:01:35.920 down i'm all in for a referendum on independence we had some wonderful speakers there last night it was
00:01:42.860 it was a little different than most events the speeches were wonderful cory morgan was there from
00:01:49.220 the western standard dennis kalma who was the co-author of the value of freedom was there
00:01:55.240 eva chipiak lawyer i did a speech on what happens after we vote for independence got a standing ovation
00:02:03.260 it was terrific and we had max from freedom calendar there live streaming this we had thousands of people
00:02:09.860 watching on the live stream i'll put a link to it below so you can watch the whole thing you really
00:02:15.460 should see it and then we opened up the microphones to questions and we had lots of questions and some
00:02:21.700 challenging questions and our panel did a great job answering them but it was just the number of
00:02:27.500 people we we heard probably an hour and a half into the the meeting and the rally from somebody that
00:02:35.220 we had 1200 people lined up outside the building
00:02:37.920 and when i walked out there earlier here's some video that i shot just walking out prior to the
00:02:45.940 meeting started the lineup was growing as fast as i was walking it was just that amazing last night
00:02:53.380 these people are all in we're all in i ended up talking to to our speakers there last night
00:03:00.000 asking them their thoughts on what was happening and how we're moving forward with the independence
00:03:04.460 movement we'll start off with with cory morgan so here with cory morgan cory um great panel tonight
00:03:11.040 dennis kalma eva chipiak you uh lots of questions this evening it was stunning to hear somebody say
00:03:18.260 that we had people lined up all the way down the street your thoughts on this you've been you've been
00:03:22.760 involved in this movement for so long you tried it's in your book you failed how are you feeling after
00:03:29.780 this tonight i mean i expected us to be filled to capacity i still hadn't anticipated that i mean
00:03:35.180 some people guessing over a thousand people possibly waiting outside just trying to and the funny thing
00:03:39.920 is so the event wasn't available but they were like well i'm going to still stand out here for an
00:03:44.100 hour so i can go in and sign they're that eager this energy as you said i've been at this longer
00:03:49.780 they'd like to admit yeah we've never seen anything like it this is unique uh the prairie fire's
00:03:55.300 and uh it's going to be a year of history i heard your video earlier today you're still in the 30 to
00:04:02.680 35 range right now you i how do you feel things are going right now i mean i remember brexit people
00:04:08.640 didn't think that would work i remember the referendum in quebec it was it had to grow what
00:04:14.300 are you thinking here well exactly i mean the momentum on both of those cases which i do mention
00:04:18.260 started smaller and worked up to a win or a near win the momentum works in favor of the exiting groups
00:04:25.140 and i think part of the reason for that is because of the belligerent response you tend to get from
00:04:28.660 academia from the establishment they do have to draw for us the other half has to be us ourselves
00:04:34.100 so i'm not one in three albertans or more are already ready to go that's an incredible base i
00:04:40.320 mean people are already dismissing it well it's only 30 percent wow that says a lot about this nation
00:04:45.360 when one in three people say that they've had it with the federation and you dismiss them
00:04:49.200 it's really problematic but that's a huge base to build on and it's going to build
00:04:53.240 so eva chipiak here lawyer one of our um panelists tonight answering questions first off i have to
00:05:01.560 say you need to be out at more of these things because you got a standing ovation for your speech
00:05:07.460 tonight basically you were referring or answering the question what happens after we vote yes in a
00:05:13.860 referendum so congratulations what do you think resonated with people that they stood up and
00:05:18.680 gave you a standing ovation it was wonderful yeah well and it was greatly appreciated so i appreciate
00:05:24.340 that but i think it's that i was helping people understand that this is a democratic process and
00:05:31.940 in fact a necessary part of our democracy to get engaged and involved when it really offends me to
00:05:39.160 my core when i hear people say that this is engaging in treason and somebody just mentioned
00:05:44.580 like look around these aren't criminals we our government keeps pushing people away we keep
00:05:50.740 getting disparaged and i encourage people to get more and more involved more educated more involved
00:05:56.740 and recognize that they have the power and i think i hope that's what resonated with people today
00:06:02.520 what i see a lot is they want somebody else to fix the problem somebody else to address the issues
00:06:09.700 and i think that's been a little bit of the hip-hop for kenny queens is that we've kind of been
00:06:16.420 um have a betting about these things yeah not recognizing hey i have a voice hey i have a
00:06:24.420 do i want to say something like this so that was the purpose of my speech too and was so that the day
00:06:31.300 after i saw many changes legally so there's no need to do this here with dennis kalma uh one of the
00:06:39.460 the panelists tonight and the co-author of the value of freedom and just your thoughts what did
00:06:44.980 you think about tonight how'd you feel it went it's completely blown away i mean i expected maybe 250
00:06:51.060 300 people and uh when i hear those numbers like 1200 down down the street trying to sign up i mean this
00:06:58.020 is this shows this movement's real it's going somewhere it's going to happen now we had a lot
00:07:03.620 of questions and a lot of good questions and and you know i was surprised by some of them because i've
00:07:07.700 interviewed you um cory morgan was on the panel tonight i've interviewed him and boy people came
00:07:13.300 up with some real zingers tonight and there's a lot to think about if we do vote yes in a referendum
00:07:19.300 yeah and and people think it's all sorted out we've got some ideas and some directions some of which are
00:07:25.300 in the valley of freedom some in other documents but the reality is and ever said it perfectly we need
00:07:30.820 the people of this province soon to be country to get engaged help us form the constitution help create
00:07:37.460 the laws make things the way we want them and if you don't do that well that's it that's going to
00:07:41.940 be a problem cory morgan eva chipiak dennis kalma volunteering their time last night we heard a lot
00:07:47.940 about that that if we want to get across the finish line with this and get our independence here in
00:07:53.140 alberta volunteering is huge so if you can spend a bit of your time volunteering go to stayfreealberta.com
00:08:00.260 and volunteer some of your time get caught up in this excitement now there are a lot of naysayers
00:08:07.460 out there about this movement one thing that i noticed the other day was people were posting
00:08:13.620 pictures or reposting pictures of some of the events saying these are all gray-haired people
00:08:19.620 and that's not the case and it certainly wasn't the case at the event we had last night it was a
00:08:24.580 saturday night and i can tell you this if i was 19 or 20 years old i would certainly not be going to
00:08:32.340 a political meeting on my saturday nights but we had people there we had a young man dressed great
00:08:39.620 with a hat on his name was michael harris he asked a question about bringing young people into this
00:08:44.820 movement i followed it up with another question and here's what he had to say can i just ask you
00:08:50.500 people are concerned about this what what percentage of students you think might be voting in favor of
00:08:57.460 the independence movement you know well currently right now we run a couple of independence clubs
00:09:01.860 across mru and the university of calgary and right now currently we have 1223 members as of today
00:09:09.620 and currently right now if i was to guess out of all those people i'd say about 100 of them
00:09:15.700 fantastic thank you young people are part of this movement and if you are young and you have
00:09:21.860 questions ask them get the answers and i think if you start really listening you'll want to be part of
00:09:27.540 this movement ask yourself this question would i want to keep more of the money i earn it's a pretty
00:09:34.900 easy question to answer and here's another thing you're being told you can't do this in canada
00:09:39.860 ask yourself this question do i ever want to own a home now for those of you who aren't quite sure
00:09:47.380 about this this qr code you're seeing on the screen right now grab your phone and scan this all right
00:09:53.700 because on here are some alberta independence facts this is the numbers and the information that you'll
00:10:00.180 need to have at your fingertips you can answer some of your questions and when you have people asking
00:10:05.860 questions of you this should be able to answer a lot of them for those of you who weren't able
00:10:11.220 to sign the petition at the queensland community center last night they will be out on january the
00:10:16.980 10th from 2 30 until 5 o'clock and the 14th from 7 30 until 9 30 at the community center for
00:10:25.460 you to sign the petition be patient more and more petition places are coming up go to stayfreealberta.com
00:10:31.620 they're putting more of them up every day and also go to stayfreealberta.com to volunteer some of
00:10:37.700 your time become a canvasser and if you can donate some money because we're going to need that to get
00:10:44.500 across the line to finally gain our independence i cannot say how how amazed i was at being part of
00:10:53.140 this event last night i was thrilled thank you to jeevan mangat and to heather field for allowing me to
00:10:59.860 be there last night it was great to be on the stage with cory morgan who i admire very much pick up his
00:11:04.180 book the sovereignty's handbook and read it lots of information in there you can get that at amazon
00:11:10.340 thanks to dennis kalma who i've got to know over the last couple of weeks and eva chipiak i talked to
00:11:16.020 eva last night watch the live stream again link in the description from freedom calendar watch eva and
00:11:23.460 listened to her speech and it was overwhelming she got a standing ovation i think we need to
00:11:30.580 bring eva out to more meetings like this and really rally on the troops again it was a wonderful night
