00:00:00.000 Hi, it's John, and welcome to the channel. Great to have you along today. It's great being here
00:00:08.700 in Calgary with nice weather all of a sudden. I hope you're having great weather wherever you
00:00:13.140 may be. It seems like winter held on pretty long this year, but we're getting some wonderful
00:00:18.940 weather here. I've got the big blue mug of coffee. Thanks so much for tuning in. I've got my friends
00:00:24.280 over here, Mr. and Mrs. Albertan, with their mugs. What do you got on your mug? Show me your mugs.
00:00:28.300 here we are we the fringe and you've got the there it is right back there you got the crest
00:00:35.800 right back you can see it all right you can see it just fine i got to figure out how in zoom how
00:00:41.040 to get rid of the blurriness i'd like that i'd like like you know full focus here but
00:00:44.760 it's wonderful to have you on you know you've got an event coming up on sunday and that was the
00:00:51.480 reason for me setting up this interview with you but i want to pick your brains you know you're
00:00:56.840 becoming um you're becoming more important in the alberta independence movement if you aren't
00:01:01.360 already you need to know that um everybody knows you too uh they love you guys the work that you're
00:01:08.120 doing you're working so hard i mean i remember back when it was snowy you'd be in banff one day
00:01:13.300 you'd be in red deer the next it was like you're all over the place and you do have this event
00:01:17.240 coming up i'll put the uh i'll put the poster up over top of this in post-production so people can
00:01:21.660 see with this event coming up on sunday everybody meeting in red deer we'll talk more about that in
00:01:26.740 just a moment and how people can take part in that but this is kind of an unofficial interview
00:01:31.600 I never set it up this way but I said this is kind of the Mr. and Mrs. Albertan interview I
00:01:36.020 want to ask you guys how do you think things are going right now when it comes to the independence
00:01:39.740 movement and do you have any concerns? My concerns I don't really I know that there's a lot of people
00:01:48.280 working in the backgrounds right now and stuff is happening all over the place like I've been
00:01:52.060 touch with so many people and i know that there's a lot of stuff going on uh i'm super glad that
00:01:58.060 let's talk alberta has been up and running well this transition period from the the signing
00:02:03.020 signing session over to the campaign session has been a kind of a dead zone but let's talk
00:02:08.780 is trying to fill that in so that works out really well for them right i know i know there's a couple
00:02:13.420 other like friday tomorrow there's supposed to be a big announcement from from some people we know
00:02:17.580 very well in the movement i don't want to spill any beans on that but apparently there's something
00:02:21.180 coming down the pipes there and it's everybody's just doing it right it's what i think is is the
00:02:29.260 best way to put it so they don't want to get trapped right so they want to make sure that
00:02:31.980 everything's done right way so as far as confidence i'm quite confident the numbers are going up
00:02:37.580 carney keeps talking politicians keep doing what they're doing and we keep we keep needing their
00:02:44.460 their input so that it sways their sways people's opinion right mrs what do you think i i honestly
00:02:50.380 think it put a little bit of danielle's announcement put a little fire under under people's
00:02:55.360 butts uh everybody that i have talked to seems to be more gung-ho more motivated into getting it
00:03:03.460 done doing whatever it takes so yeah yeah it's it's funny you say that because i thought people
00:03:10.600 were pretty gung-ho all all already you know because through the petition campaign even when
00:03:16.280 the weather was crappy everybody had a big smile on their face but i'm feeling the same way i'm
00:03:20.280 feeling the needle moving a little bit right now. I think, you know, there was the discussion on
00:03:25.240 Unacceptable Fringe. We had everybody aboard. I wish you guys could have been there because I
00:03:29.040 know you've got some wonderful ideas. But, you know, I was thinking about it as well.
00:03:33.660 The other side are going after the same people we're going after. We talk so much about the
00:03:39.120 people on the fence. It doesn't mean they're going to come our way. So we have to make sure
00:03:43.260 that we're really focusing on that as well, because they're trying to get the fence sitters
00:03:48.000 as well. I mentioned last night, we need to actually go out to the events they're at and
00:03:52.140 set up across the street so I can talk to those people. You know, I think that would be really
00:03:56.300 important. And I have to say, honestly, Al's had at least half a dozen interactions in the last
00:04:04.780 couple of weeks that have been with fence sitters, naysayers, and very, they come up all huff and
00:04:12.580 gruff and ready and i just smile and step aside and let let i'll take care of it he handles himself
00:04:22.580 so well they all of these situations ended with a handshake not saying that we changed their vote
00:04:30.660 but they all left saying we can agree to disagree and i'll look into that so he them with a little
00:04:38.980 bit of a nugget and they're going to look into it and that's what we have to do is is start
00:04:44.180 listening to them and their beefs and and and and slowly approaching and addressing it with them in
00:04:52.260 their language right what hits them yeah pardon me my cat red is going crazy in the background
00:05:02.340 he's having a moment right now no i think you know i think it's going to be interesting the
00:05:06.420 the interactions. We have so much discussion about how do we approach people? How do we get
00:05:11.060 their attention? How do we get to the people who aren't paying attention? You and I are always
00:05:15.280 thinking about this. I wake up in the morning, I'm thinking about the Alberta independence movement.
00:05:19.460 I know you're doing the same thing, but there are a lot of people out there who just aren't
00:05:23.340 engaged right now. And I think we need to understand that a lot of those people,
00:05:28.400 they might not get engaged until September. We have to think about that. They're not really
00:05:33.620 going to pay attention so we need to we need to be thinking about that and thinking down the road
00:05:37.640 as we get to the home stretch because that's going to be very important you can change a lot
00:05:42.080 of minds in the last the last few weeks of uh of a campaign like this he's opened his mouth more 0.96
00:05:47.800 like like the missus has said that uh the biggest thing we got to do is is get to the like she she
00:05:53.440 pointed out that the people that are are engaged are are coming to us and talking but like you're
00:05:59.900 saying the ones that aren't engaged are the ones that we need to get to because they don't even
00:06:03.720 know that there's anything going on and we need to get them to form an opinion and a lot of that
00:06:09.540 is just by going out and and wearing your gear or or why have you got a flag like we get that so
00:06:15.240 many times driving down the road we passed a couple of cars yesterday from oklahoma and we
00:06:19.920 got our flags all over the beast as you know and they were they just loved us and we rolled down
00:06:25.880 the window conversation at the red light and it was that was amazing it was too bad they can't vote
00:06:30.660 but yeah um we gotta let them talk right we gotta let the people talk tell us what's important to
00:06:38.420 them before we start telling them what we think should be important to them right right you know
00:06:43.180 it's funny we were out last weekend when you did the the cruise around calgary we actually got some
00:06:47.280 attention from uh i think it was a police helicopter they followed us i think for a couple
00:06:52.600 of hours and circled the parking lot when we got back to our final destination there but it certainly
00:06:58.300 does bring um a lot of attention and the thing that i noticed there were so many people honking
00:07:04.820 their horns and so many people giving us a thumbs up there's a lot of that right now when i was out
00:07:09.800 when i was out during the petition campaign i'd stop by and there were so many so many people with
00:07:15.460 the thumbs up of the horns and i would talk to people they say oh it's it's it's 40 to one they 0.98
00:07:19.840 would count how many well middle fingers they get compared to the hogs and it was 41 on our side so 0.97
00:07:26.460 that's that's good isn't it it's good to hear that and the bigger we are the more positive feedback 0.95
00:07:32.100 we seem to get when we are a smaller role because we sometimes don't have the greatest turnout but
00:07:37.980 when we have these massive turnouts the the they are so happy to see us and you can't unsee once
00:07:46.500 you see us like people on the bike paths and in the in the golf courses like they had to stand
00:07:52.680 there for three minutes watching us drive by right it was yeah it is interesting i watched uh well
00:07:59.480 we watched the the jason kenny and keith interview or debate last night and the one thing that kenny
00:08:07.240 pounded in a couple times was the division within alberta with the major cities right and i i see
00:08:14.400 that very much when we're in Airdrie and we're we were standing on the bridge on Saturday in Airdrie
00:08:18.960 you might have seen the Rebel News interview and we did we're standing there the cars going under
00:08:23.820 the bridge in Airdrie were probably 50 anyway or even maybe 60 40 for support and not support
00:08:32.200 as soon as we left Airdrie and we were driving on that exact same highway going down Deerfoot Trail
00:08:38.440 in calgary as soon as you hit the city limits it's like people turn into kind of for lack of 0.97
00:08:44.520 a better word morons it's like yeah right it's like we drove into a sleep zone it's really bad 0.90
00:08:54.840 here in calgary and i do notice too that the west side of the city seems to be worse than the east 0.98
00:08:59.080 side of the city where the affluence is right there's it seems to be an affluence thing that
00:09:02.920 we need to break through yeah you know it's very strange there's something there's a phenomenon
00:09:07.880 that i see you know we talk about pension plans and things like this and there's been talk of an
00:09:12.520 alberta pension plan for some time i live i live in the southeast and across the way across the
00:09:17.340 highway from me is mckenzie lake i live in mckenzie town and the people over there you see the signs
00:09:22.100 that have hands off my cpp now the these signs are sitting in front of houses where nobody would
00:09:28.020 ever need the the cpp dollars it could get but they want to stop us from getting a better pension
00:09:35.160 plan, but they put a sign out there. I think these people have ironclad pensions, $3 million homes
00:09:40.720 overlooking the park. They don't, what would that do for them, the CPP, but they want to stop other
00:09:45.440 people from getting a better pension plan for themselves. They find that fascinating. And yeah,
00:09:50.480 affluent people, they're not for this. And, you know, you know, we, we kind of have to focus on
00:09:55.480 those fence sitters. It's going to, it's going to be people who are hard nose. We're never going to
00:09:59.360 change their minds. Why waste our time? Right. Well, you, you, I was just going to bring this
00:10:03.740 up earlier when when the missus was talking about when we have conversations and to use
00:10:08.280 cory morgan's analogy of the red yellow and green light people i've had those people that she
00:10:15.140 mentioned i've had a number of conversations where they were dead red when i first started
00:10:19.020 talking to them and i love turning red into yellow and yellow into green right and i have
00:10:23.260 turned a number of reds into yellow and i've turned a number of yellows into green i've never
00:10:29.060 seen it go the other way but if you even get to a red and you treat them with respect and you
00:10:33.220 listen to their grievances and you have a civil conversation with them you can very often turn 0.82
00:10:38.740 them into a yellow and who knows what the next conversation will be like after that right
00:10:41.820 well i you know you mentioned the the debate the other night i was in the room and um the the
00:10:50.600 things that really struck me was was the it's the campaign of fear and that's what this is going to
00:10:54.900 be uh you need to be fearful it's the fear of the unknown i understand that we need to get around
00:11:00.140 that as well the thing that really struck me hasn't been discussed too much was kenny kept
00:11:04.420 going on about how we have to continue to work with canada to get a better place for alberta
00:11:10.260 and we need to keep negotiating with them well how long does that have to go on there's the old
00:11:15.100 saying what's the definition of insanity jason right doing the same thing over and over again
00:11:19.540 expecting a different result um but that's see but it's the campaign of fear he went back to fear
00:11:25.940 and fear and fear you know the cities are going to leave that can't happen they can't just vote
00:11:30.660 to leave the province uh so you know we need to be prepared for all this stuff and and and and be the
00:11:37.140 campaign of hope i think that's a good way of going what do you think about that absolutely
00:11:43.620 that that's what i feel like we are already and and also cory morgan threw out a little slogan
00:11:49.540 spiel on derek's live last night um can't remember what he said uh yes we can and it's possible or
00:11:57.940 like yes just a little catchy brexit campaign well i was thinking about jason levine and maybe people
00:12:05.140 want to comment on this as they're watching this video he said we need to kind of spin the forever
00:12:09.700 canadian thing forever canadian taxes forever you know stuff like that forever taxed canadians
00:12:18.020 yeah yeah and you gotta we gotta remember where kenny gets a bunch of his his uh yearly pay too
00:12:25.060 it's not all just from from alberta he was he was in the canadian government for quite a while so
00:12:30.340 he's getting some funds that way so yeah coming from right yeah you know i we talked we were
00:12:37.140 were talking about the CPP. We could go on forever and we'll talk about your event here in just a
00:12:41.120 second. But something dawned on me the other day. When somebody asks you about the Canada Pension
00:12:46.340 Plan, what do you tell them? What's the basic thing we've all been saying for months regarding
00:12:51.920 the CPP? If somebody says, well, I'm concerned about my CPP, whether I'll be able to keep it.
00:12:57.820 What do I say?
00:12:58.640 Well, yeah. What do you say?
00:12:59.940 I say, why would you let somebody invest your money in India when you didn't give them the
00:13:05.580 authorization to do that if you if you're worried about your cpp you should be worried about your
00:13:09.360 cpp right now because it's being invested as a as an asset of the canadian funds and it's not
00:13:15.080 it cannot even be there when it's time for you to collect yeah the the i think that's a great take
00:13:22.280 mine would be why do you even want to have the cpp right i think maybe we should be looking at it in
00:13:27.980 a different way you know if you've looked into the cpp which i have it's nothing and the thing
00:13:34.420 The thing that really bugs me about this is the people who are fighting against us, your, well, your Jason Kenneys and your Thomas Lukasics and your Mark Carney's and Daniel Smith's are going to have ironclad pensions worth millions for doing virtually nothing.
00:13:50.300 Well, for working for a few years when people have worked their whole lives for not to get nothing in the CPP.
00:13:56.000 Why not get something?
00:13:56.920 Keep up with inflation.
00:13:57.460 Yeah.
00:13:58.000 Why not?
00:13:58.600 Why not go for something better?
00:14:00.100 And that's kind of the message we could pass along to these people.
00:14:04.740 But you do have a lot of events.
00:14:06.260 Show me the flags.
00:14:07.200 You showed me the flags that you had earlier.
00:14:09.180 What do you got there?
00:14:13.900 Outstanding.
00:14:14.540 And you're going to be handing those out.
00:14:16.260 And the flag has certainly, it's such a beautiful flag.
00:14:19.140 I love the color of blue.
00:14:20.160 I noticed when I was in the cruise last week, my car is exactly the color of the flag.
00:14:25.100 Did you notice that?
00:14:26.100 Oh, beautiful.
00:14:26.920 You need a press magnet for the door.
00:14:28.800 yeah you know i'm gonna have to get one i'm gonna have to get one of those what's what's going on
00:14:33.600 on sunday you want people to meet up in red deer from anywhere in alberta if you can meet up in
00:14:38.660 red deer what's going on province wide we we were we talked all along that there was going to be
00:14:44.100 something coming up on this weekend because originally uh app or stay free however you want
00:14:49.140 to call them they originally were planning to have a big event coming up this weekend but it
00:14:55.160 the the venue issue keeps popping up so it keeps getting bumped back they are still planning for
00:14:59.880 something uh now maybe the second week of june or something i hear so we decided we're going to do
00:15:04.920 a province wide anyway because everybody's everybody's antsy and everybody wants to
00:15:08.920 see the see the numbers so we really need to keep the blue visible we need to keep it out so what
00:15:15.080 we're doing is we've teamed up with tyson again tyson's amazing and the guy's darren from red
00:15:21.000 deer he's got us out there as well we got uh at 12 o'clock at the atchison location for tyson we
00:15:28.040 want anybody that's within striking range we want them to be there by noon so that they can head
00:15:33.080 down to red deer here at the i-fly parking lot here at the deerfoot city in calgary we're going
00:15:38.600 to be leaving at noon so we want anybody within striking range i've tried to touch base with
00:15:42.280 left bridge we'd like to see some people from mendison hat from canmore where you are join us
00:15:48.600 anywhere across southern province northern province join up at one of those two locations
00:15:54.120 and then from there we're heading up to the the sports hall of fame in red deer and hope to be
00:15:58.680 there between 1 32 o'clock yeah we you know i've been out to some of these events i've talked to
00:16:03.080 a couple of people and they'd say well we're we're meeting you guys they'd meet us at the eye fly
00:16:07.320 they've come from crow's nest pass that's great you can do that if you can make make that time
00:16:11.320 but no matter where you're coming from you don't have to come to calgary to go to this event you
00:16:14.760 you don't have to come from edmonton just meet meet at the sports hall of fame at 130 and
00:16:20.280 alberta sports hall of fame too not the canadian one i found out there's a canadian one
00:16:23.960 of course the alberta gather your troops wherever you are we're like if you're out in taber or a
00:16:33.240 drum heller and you have five or six bring them get to red deer we need you guys we need numbers
00:16:39.800 we want to knock this out of the park and make it like mitch has been calling his rally the
00:16:43.960 mother of all rallies we want to make this the mother of all cruises we want to try and get as
00:16:47.680 many people as possible in red deer so we can flood that zone for the afternoon on red deer
00:16:52.220 and just cruise the streets and let everybody know that we're there it was brought up a couple
00:16:57.340 times last night they don't understand actually i wanted to address this now that we were there
00:17:02.720 the number of the people that were on the panel last night don't understand why the cruises don't
00:17:07.340 go through downtown past west edmonton mall or whatever they have to remember we have to
00:17:12.920 plan these cruises around the street lights that breaks us up and the traffic right we don't want
00:17:20.160 to make people angry while we're driving through traffic we don't want to get broken up by street
00:17:23.800 lights the cruise we did last weekend was absolutely amazing because we picked a road
00:17:30.200 that had some street lights but it did go through downtown so we could cruise really slow and not
00:17:34.360 make people angry and we were able to keep everybody together like there's no sense in
00:17:39.420 having a cruise if it's three of you and you're split up and then three more and each yeah we've
00:17:45.460 got to be together so well having said that we've got a got a plan or a route that we're planning
00:17:50.780 for in red deer john talks to alberta and and i and and tyson have been working on putting together
00:17:56.520 a route through red deer we may end up getting broken up but if we're big enough we could have
00:18:00.940 four four cruises going through the town at once right whatever happens but again we have to
00:18:06.080 remember streetlights and that sort of stuff uh not to make people angry and don't don't get lost
00:18:11.200 i got lost last weekend but it worked out all right yeah called yeah i got lost well meet us
00:18:16.400 at sarcee trail i you know i'm still i still have the video i'm going to put that one up perhaps
00:18:20.160 i'll put it up tomorrow to kind of remind people about what's coming up this weekend so if you want
00:18:24.400 to meet in edmonton you don't have to uh but you want to meet at the alberta sports hall of fame
00:18:29.360 1.30 in Red Deer. But if you want to meet in Edmonton, 266th Street and 114th Avenue,
00:18:35.520 Atchison, Calgary, the iFly is at 64th Avenue and Deerfoot Trail in the Northeast. You can
00:18:41.540 meet up there. And it's great to meet up. It's fun to see the people in the parking lot. It just
00:18:44.760 kind of adds to the fun. And you all drive up together. That is a big part of it as well. It's
00:18:49.380 very, very exciting to do that when you see all those flags. And you know what? It's been getting
00:18:54.220 better people are learning how to keep the flags on their vehicles because when we went up to
00:18:58.480 mirror that one weekend there were there was a giant pole with a flag that fell off on the highway
00:19:05.460 and we and i was following down the road we lost all our flags i think three or four they all went
00:19:10.520 so people are getting better at keeping the flags on the vehicles so we're learning a lot here
00:19:15.980 we certainly have a one up when it comes to putting flags actually we learned that lesson
00:19:20.440 in Airdrie the other day when we were out there on Saturday because I was I have the there's an
00:19:24.940 extra flag that I put up for when we're parked right in the middle of all my other flags in the
00:19:28.020 back of the truck and I thought ah we're going to be cruising at 20-30 kilometers an hour whatever
00:19:32.220 who cares so I left that one up just to make it look that much better because there was a lot of
00:19:36.800 people around and halfway through the tour down Main Street on Airdrie that flag actually folded
00:19:43.700 the pole that it was on and fell off the back of the truck and we had a carload of people behind
00:19:49.820 us that actually followed us for like blocks and blocks and came up to us and said hey did you lose
00:19:54.860 a big flag and they gave us back the flag and he said we got to stick together we we really got to
00:19:58.940 make sure that people know what's going on for one another he said so we gave him a card flag
00:20:04.700 because that who does that yeah yeah that's beautiful that's nice so where can guys find
