00:00:00.000 hi it's john and welcome to the channel it is thursday february the 12th i am recording this
00:00:08.840 on the 11th of february but it's going up at 4 30 in the morning thank you very much
00:00:13.120 uh for tuning in and watching this video with the big blue mug of coffee of course and we have a
00:00:18.240 guest today you know i was thinking about this prior to starting oh you got your own mug there
00:00:23.440 michael's got his own mug well uh he's got a big blue mug it looks like as well but i was thinking
00:00:28.540 about this prior to getting michael on with me to talk about the independence movement that is
00:00:32.280 growing in british columbia is how can we frame this and that's like unleash the beast of western
00:00:38.420 independence so maybe that's what we'll call this video but my guest today is michael henshaw
00:00:44.240 who was one of the leaders of the independence movement in british columbia and michael welcome
00:00:50.620 to the channel it's great to talk to you this is spreading right across the country michael it's
00:00:55.900 good to have you here thanks john good afternoon so um i spoke not too long ago with brad williams
00:01:01.620 from the saskatchewan prosperity project um he actually gave me your contact information so i
00:01:06.580 could talk to you here today uh i know that uh brad and uh saskatchewan's about maybe two years
00:01:12.060 behind alberta you're really just starting out with this and i think at around the same time you
00:01:17.360 started talking about independence and it started creeping into the media there was somebody else in
00:01:22.300 british columbia doing the same thing so you've you've got a few people at least talking about the
00:01:26.800 independence movement in british columbia right now yeah that's correct john uh it's strictly it's
00:01:32.580 been grassroots we've uh there was this sudden surge it's all over the province and i really appreciate
00:01:39.640 what uh what citizens in alberta have been working on blazing the trail well yeah i'm sorry but you've
00:01:47.600 been you've been you've been involved i think in politics in british columbia as well and and i did
00:01:53.180 you have a belief in canada at one time and it's kind of slipped away from you absolutely you know i
00:01:58.360 grew up you know that proud is uh you know a proud canadian yeah yeah i understand for lack of a better
00:02:04.540 word but um yeah you know throughout throughout my years uh some things come to mind you know cheering
00:02:11.520 the canadian team on at the olympics and hockey and you know all these great great um events that stand
00:02:19.520 out you know even even going back to elementary school and proudly singing oh canada and you know
00:02:28.480 but the past 10 years has been different it has you know it's interesting you say that we're in the
00:02:33.360 olympics right now and i've i've thought a little bit about rooting for team canada uh as the olympics
00:02:39.120 started i remember 72 watching the 72 summit series in class it was that patriotic at that point so
00:02:45.920 that's a long long time ago um and of course we played the russians back then and we won uh in an
00:02:50.640 eight game series but i remember that very much but what is it that's changed there now um i mean
00:02:55.360 we certainly have our gripes here in alberta when it comes to our natural resources the amount of
00:03:00.400 money that we give uh to the east uh saskatchewan has its grievances as well what are the things
00:03:05.600 that stand out for you i think you might have some rather unique things uh that are concerns for you
00:03:10.400 now i've uh the past 10 years i've seen a there's been a been a shift and this has been going on for
00:03:17.520 probably 10 years for me uh i've seen it's almost like uh you know we have canada we had canada in
00:03:24.800 our heart had passed um and we saw a shift from our federal leaders to more of a globalist view right
00:03:37.600 we saw that we you know if you you can just just in light of that um i i'm thinking of henry kissinger's
00:03:45.280 words years ago and he said um we control oil we control the nations we control food
00:03:54.800 we control the individual and also more recently uh klaus schwab uh for the economic forum former
00:04:02.800 executive chairman of the world economic forum that famous quote you alone nothing and be happy
00:04:08.880 well he also boasted though of controlling uh half of trudeau's cabinet or b or his over half of
00:04:17.680 trudeau's cabinet were uh was a youth world economic youth yeah i remember yeah so you know we in light
00:04:29.200 of that and then we see that there's a shift to globalism you take trudeau's track record of giving
00:04:34.560 over 10 billion per year of our hard-earned tax dollars and our taxes are high and taking those and
00:04:43.760 giving them through to his pet projects throughout the globe yeah and then and we we see uh christia
00:04:51.360 freeland and i i i believe there's a lot of criminality involved we see christia freeland over
00:04:57.440 there uh right she's been shipped off to ukraine and i believe to run the laundromat yeah yeah well you
00:05:05.040 know it's interesting i i think was just recently mitch sylvester at one of the the meetings they've had
00:05:10.080 he said you know you ship money off to a country and you send over a billion dollars and how much
00:05:15.040 actually gets into the country how much is written a check is written straight back into the country
00:05:20.080 back to canada and you know maybe nine tenths of that money comes back to canada but we've uh who's
00:05:25.280 getting that money is i wish people could see it because there is there's money laundering yeah and
00:05:30.240 it's in our own backyard well i'm wondering how uh just today and i don't want to get too deep into
00:05:34.640 the federal politics i do want to talk about british columbia but i just read an article that
00:05:39.360 justin trudeau i know that he's got money because his dad left it to him but he's about a 4.3 million
00:05:44.880 dollar mansion he's got terribly rich as a politician i just don't know how that happens but
00:05:49.360 you know looking from alberta what we see happening out there uh certainly pipelines are very much
00:05:55.200 connected with british columbia certainly to go through there but the real challenge i think you
00:06:00.400 guys have right now that's that we're not dealing with here in alberta is land claims and you're dealing
00:06:06.160 with and maybe we can put them together but you're dealing with a left-wing government there
00:06:11.120 where here in alberta we tend to elect very right-wing governments more conservative so talk about the
00:06:17.600 land claim issue uh you you gave me an amazing number the other day you said something like 110
00:06:23.840 of the land 110 that was that was a few years back it's probably more now yeah of the provinces and
00:06:33.600 land claims due to overlapping claims yeah so any way to get around that though because we are
00:06:40.000 certainly here where i live i'm in treaty seven right um when it comes to treaties here and it's
00:06:45.920 seeded land here all given up all seeded pretty much all of alberta is that way but i don't think
00:06:51.120 british columbia is that way so you've got some real challenges there and this must really tick you off
00:06:55.680 and people who are interested in independence there there's uh our there our real estate industry
00:07:03.040 right now is is it's tanking do you work in real estate just frozen i yes i thought it's okay for
00:07:09.280 20 20 plus years and property manager so yeah yeah it it it strikes close to home yeah but i'm seeing
00:07:16.240 seeing that you know throughout the province that it's quite stagnant right now and i think a lot of
00:07:21.680 people are hesitant to jump in yeah i wouldn't want to buy a house there right now there's no security
00:07:26.560 i think the banks are are not interested in in lending i think in spec particularly those areas
00:07:33.760 that are have open locket uh lawsuits more more recently there was the couch and decision but we
00:07:40.080 have kamloops now the whole city of kamloops you know is under claim i'm just wondering where that's
00:07:46.000 gonna go yeah is there a lot of support for this i mean there's you there's somebody else who's
00:07:50.640 talking about this as well are you are you getting people together are you having meetings are you
00:07:55.760 trying to connect with other people who are interested in this and what part of bc do you
00:07:59.600 want to take do you want it all or just the section above vancouver and victoria that seem to vote for the
00:08:04.560 left in the well i'm i'm in 100 mile which is south central and the last provincial election
00:08:13.680 everything north went blue and we did and there's that but the concentrate population concentration
00:08:20.400 the lower mainland seemed to dictate the yeah the outcome yeah i think a lot of people it's a that
00:08:28.480 couch and this decision is affecting those people though and i i there there's a there is a different
00:08:36.400 there is a shift right now i think the only option is independence to get rid of this and deal with
00:08:42.080 this so let me ask you this um i've heard over the years since i've been interested in independence
00:08:49.280 here in alberta you know i moved out here about 15 years ago from ontario it was around uh 2019 when
00:08:54.960 i went to my first meeting and i'd always heard that there are sections of northern british columbia that
00:09:00.240 would like to fragment away or break away from the south and we could become our own little
00:09:06.320 province you get saskatchewan or country saskatchewan alberta and the northern part of british
00:09:10.880 columbia is there a belief in that or are you looking for the whole thing here i i would be i'd be
00:09:15.200 all for that john if if there was no other option but i'd like to see the whole province we have the
00:09:21.440 we have the port of vancouver uh the coast there's we got fisheries i love fishing yeah but uh we there's
00:09:29.600 opportunity up and down the coast and if if we can get the lower mainland on board i'd be all for that
00:09:35.280 that'd be first option are the people of british columbia we hear that you know there are people
00:09:40.080 who are obstructionists who don't want natural resources to go through your province but the
00:09:44.320 people you speak with are they generally in favor of um you know expanding our pipelines and getting our
00:09:50.080 oil to tide water in other places as opposed to having to ship all of it down to the united states
00:09:55.040 to the south of us when people get hungry they will they'll change their mind and and they are
00:10:01.520 and they are there is uh i think there's a a shift in the province to open up natural resources i i the
00:10:09.920 north here we're all for it i'd like to see a banner above our province that says open for business
00:10:16.240 alberta you want a pipeline let's talk let's get it done right now right so that saskatchewan you
00:10:22.800 want it you want potash to the coast let's get it done because we saw what recently happened uh
00:10:28.320 david ebby you know is i guess floundering there and then uh alberta is looking down down to washington
00:10:36.640 state now well yeah scott moe in saskatchewan said we could just ship it through the states
00:10:40.560 as opposed to going through british columbia and that pissed your your premier off quite a bit you
00:10:45.440 know so i mean it's just it's just one of those things there's a lot of frustration that i'm feeling
00:10:50.560 right now and i'm feeling it obviously in alberta because we're so far ahead and we're moving our
00:10:54.480 way towards the referendum we're in the petition signing right now i'm cheering you guys are you
00:10:59.840 i know you spoke i know you spoke with brad from the saskatchewan prosperity project are you reaching
00:11:04.560 you're trying to reach out to other people to help you absolutely along right yeah i know a few people
00:11:09.360 from the the app and uh in communication with them and uh they're keeping me abreast of what's going on and
00:11:17.120 and uh and brad as well so they're they're in a tough predicament because they don't have a
00:11:22.960 any provincial legislation that allows them to have a citizen's initiative we do in british columbia
00:11:28.800 oh you do okay and it has been successful with this let me let's go let me just kind of go back
00:11:34.480 around here to the the land claim issues you have a left-wing government there with your with your
00:11:40.800 premier um and you said there might be a change coming do you think there's any chance that you
00:11:47.680 may see your government switch back to the right a little bit here so that this opportunity for you
00:11:53.760 as an independent as an independent country or an independent part with alberta and saskatchewan
00:11:59.840 might even be a little bit easier because of that i don't see david ebby making it any easier
00:12:06.400 well no no no he's calling us traitors out here for what we're talking about i mean he's
00:12:10.800 he's raised the um the level of um hatred against people in the independence movement out here
00:12:17.040 uh up to you know major levels and you're hearing everybody say that out here now he's been positive
00:12:21.840 for the independence movement oh it's oh yes oh yeah yeah oh yeah yeah jeff wrath here you know you
00:12:29.440 know jeff i've interviewed him many times he says every time he opens his mouth and carny
00:12:33.520 out in your mouth we push a hundred thousand people to the that's exactly right here yeah for
00:12:37.760 sure so what are you doing you're trying to get people aboard how are you uh do you have a website
00:12:42.400 right now we've got we've got a website being developed right now okay uh that facebook is
00:12:48.480 it's yeah it blew up to about 15 000 members in in a week and a half there was a poll john this was a
00:12:58.000 poll at castanet yesterday yep and it was sitting at about 30 percent it was an independence question
00:13:07.520 uh it's castanet from cloner camel you might want to look that up i will it's still on there and i
00:13:14.480 guess i guess people would repost it and that it ended up 37 and then they froze it before it even
00:13:20.880 got into the evening with with 15 000 15 or 16 000 votes in in favor of british columbia independence
00:13:30.240 37 that's where that's where it left off 15 or 16 000 votes so what's the what's the facebook is it
00:13:37.040 bc prosperity project is that how people can find it that's correct yeah and if people want to get in
00:13:41.840 contact with you you're going to have a website up soon be sure to let me know when that is so we can
00:13:45.200 let people know about it okay absolutely good luck to you um it's just fascinating you know i did a
00:13:50.960 video within the last couple of weeks and right now four provinces out of 10 are have groups that
00:13:58.640 want to see their provinces break away from canada and i think canada is just withering and dying on
00:14:04.320 the vine right now and the most we're getting right now be prepared for it because it's been coming our
00:14:08.720 way michael be prepared for the insults and threats because that is coming your way as well and that's
00:14:13.680 the best they can do for us the the tolerant polite canadians are lashing out at people who want a
00:14:19.200 better life for their families and um for their province and uh and i don't think there's anything
00:14:24.880 wrong with us going through this democratic process do you no absolutely not it's in place this is
00:14:30.320 our citizens initiative is in place yeah and alberta and and federal government legislation
00:14:37.440 uh quebec blazed the trail there yeah the clarity act yeah yeah i remember it all in place i remember
00:14:45.920 it quite well and it's and it is a democratic process we're going through we can either vote yes
00:14:50.320 in favor or no against uh here in alberta and who knows i think if one falls you'll see a number of
00:14:56.640 the dominoes fall meaning provinces leaving canada and we would be at a great disadvantage if we don't
00:15:01.840 join you and and if if we do there's the scott the potential for economic prosperity uh for the west
00:15:10.400 saskatchewan alberta and bc is is immense i can't see what would happen to british columbia if all of
00:15:16.720 a sudden there's a big gap in the middle of the country called alberta and we can get in the way
00:15:21.520 you know and you've just been isolated from the rest of canada with a whole province in between so
00:15:26.720 and change things a lot and that might be the best way for you to go just to join up with the west
00:15:31.440 and unleash the beast of the west as i'd like to say yeah you're trading you have the opportunity
00:15:37.120 to trade with the the us so you know it won't hinder you as much as i think bc could be quite
00:15:45.440 disadvantaged without you guys absolutely michael thank you so much good luck to you uh keep me
00:15:51.520 keep me up to date on what's going on out there um if you have an event that's going on you get
00:15:55.680 together with a bunch of other people please let me know about it so we can talk about it
00:15:59.920 um obviously i've spoken with saskatchewan about this not going to worry too much about quebec
00:16:05.360 but and i talk a lot about independence here in alberta but i'm very interested in what's going on
00:16:09.920 just to the west of us here um you'd be a great advantage to have you guys on our side and i just
00:16:16.080 can't imagine can you imagine how we would just kill it if we had saskatchewan and alberta and at least
00:16:21.600 part of british columbia all is one separate country it would be amazing phenomenal yeah michael
00:16:27.520 thank you so much i appreciate it john appreciate it thanks for your time you go alberta yeah thank
00:16:32.400 you michael henshaw he is a independence leader in british columbia we will keep up to date on this
00:16:38.560 we'll let you know if anything happens and we're really excited about this but it is it's like a
00:16:43.280 domino effect happening here uh if alberta goes who knows what will happen with the rest of the
00:16:48.320 country but we're going to have our choice we're going to we're going to choose whether we want
00:16:52.400 to stay or not thanks for watching if you like the video give it a thumbs up subscribe to the
00:16:56.320 channel ring the bell for notifications i'll see you in the next one
