Summary

Calgary stampede at the Saddledome is a reminder of why we need to fight for Alberta to stay in Canada. Thomas Lukasik's petition for a referendum on Alberta's independence from Canada is a good reminder that we have a chance to win this thing.

00:00:00.240 Hi, it's John and welcome to the channel 621 a.m. Sunday, July 6th. I've got my big blue mug of coffee.
00:00:06.660 Hope you're having a great start to your Sunday. I'm wearing my cowboy hat today. It is stampede time here in Calgary.
00:00:14.100 Please leave your comments below and tell me the hat makes me look like a goof and not my face because I hate the way I look in a cowboy hat.
00:00:22.700 Did you realize most Calgarians get the hell out of Dodge during stampede? We want nothing to do with it.
00:00:28.160 It closes down all the bike paths down around the stampede grounds in the Saddledome as well, which pisses me off because I like to ride my bike down there.
00:00:35.540 But I hope you're having a great day today. If you're a subscriber, thank you so much. I do appreciate it.
00:00:40.260 If you're not a subscriber, please click on subscribe. So a short one for you today.
00:00:44.220 I wrote an email to the Chief Electoral Officer of Alberta and I'm going to share it with you in just a moment and I'm going to click send on it.
00:00:51.760 Hasn't gone out yet. It's going to be sent right here live with John Bolton from his basement.
00:00:56.460 So I've mentioned a number of times here. I think it's important for the Alberta Prosperity Project and the independence movement to take Thomas Lukasik's petition seriously.
00:01:08.860 I've said a number of times that I think they're assuming a number of things here.
00:01:16.420 They're assuming that the question that we want for independence will be agreed upon by the Chief Electoral Officer.
00:01:23.240 We're assuming that. We're assuming that we won't be shut out because Lukasik got his question in first.
00:01:28.940 That's what Lukasik says is happening. We're assuming this and we're just sloughing off this thing like it's nothing.
00:01:34.260 It's just a minor inconvenience. Lukasik has something on his side. I've mentioned it here as well.
00:01:38.940 He's got patriotism on his side. Okay. And that's hard to fight against. That's a feeling. Right.
00:01:46.000 It might not be logical for a lot of people, for people like myself who wants independence, but it's a feeling.
00:01:51.360 It's hard to fight back feelings and to defeat feelings like that. People who wrap themselves in the Canadian flag.
00:01:57.480 Now I got up this morning. I saw this article. You're going to see a lot of this kind of stuff.
00:02:00.500 This kind of thing is trying to discourage people who want independence not to vote or maybe vote the other way.
00:02:06.240 Forever Canadian movement gains ground as separatist push begins to falter.
00:02:09.860 It's not faltering. What I saw in Airdrie the other night, unbelievable.
00:02:13.180 This is a growing movement. We've got a good chance to win this thing.
00:02:16.100 We need to be vigilant. We need to fight harder.
00:02:18.600 There's Lukasik right now. Why is he doing this?
00:02:22.960 I think there's a lot of reasons why he's doing this.
00:02:26.840 And I might get to that in just a moment in my email.
00:02:29.980 And here it is right here.
00:02:31.940 Gordon McClure is the chief electoral officer of Alberta from me in Calgary.
00:02:38.320 Subject questions regarding the recent approval of citizens initiative referendum.
00:02:43.200 I'm writing to seek clarity regarding the recent approval of a citizens initiative for a referendum on the question.
00:02:49.280 Do you agree that Alberta should remain in Canada?
00:02:53.560 I would appreciate it if you could address the following questions concerning your approval of this initiative.
00:02:59.560 1. Assuming the response options for this question are yes or no,
00:03:04.560 what would be the outcome if a majority of Albertans vote no?
00:03:08.940 2. If the outcome remains the same regardless of how people vote,
00:03:13.440 what is the purpose of this referendum question?
00:03:15.980 3. Should time, effort, and taxpayer money be spent on a referendum that,
00:03:25.880 regardless of the result, maintains the status quo?
00:03:30.260 4. If the purpose of this referendum is purely partisan,
00:03:34.480 to pressure the premier into supporting the petition,
00:03:37.580 which appears to be the petitioner's intent, see linked below.
00:03:41.300 And here's the story right here that I linked below.
00:03:43.400 So, Lukasik goes on, he's trying to put pressure on the premier because I think he has an axe to grind.
00:03:49.960 I don't know all of the background with Lukasik,
00:03:52.440 but I think he has an axe to grind, and that's why he's doing this.
00:03:59.080 So, I'll read that again.
00:04:00.860 4. If the purpose of this referendum is purely partisan,
00:04:04.220 to pressure the premier into supporting the petition,
00:04:06.800 which appears to be the petitioner's intent,
00:04:08.880 is this an appropriate use of your office?
00:04:12.120 Your mandate states that Elections Alberta is an independent, non-partisan office of the Legislative Assembly
00:04:19.780 responsible for administering provincial elections, by-elections, and referenda.
00:04:24.740 And here's the page from their website that states exactly that.
00:04:27.860 5. Is a petition designed to influence or pressure a single individual, the premier,
00:04:35.300 a responsible and non-partisan use of your time and taxpayer resources?
00:04:40.040 Now, there may be other questions, but it's really number two that concerns me.
00:04:45.800 If the outcome remains the same, regardless of how people vote,
00:04:48.720 what is the purpose of this referendum question?
00:04:51.660 More importantly, why was it approved?
00:04:55.920 I believe Albertans deserve clear answers to these questions
00:04:58.860 before this initiative proceeds any further.
00:05:01.000 Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.
00:05:02.960 I put a link to the story I showed you there,
00:05:05.260 and I saw it at John R. Bolton, Calgary, McKenzie Town,
00:05:08.460 and it's now been sent to the Electoral Office of the Province of Alberta.
00:05:15.260 So, I don't know whether I'll get anything back on this.
00:05:18.140 I hope I do.
00:05:20.940 And as soon as I find out any answers to this,
00:05:23.360 I will definitely have it here on my channel.
00:05:25.180 So, just keep your eyes open for that.
00:05:26.980 And that's all I got today.
00:05:28.700 You know, it's Sunday.
00:05:30.340 It's going to be a day around here.
00:05:31.980 It's rather quiet.
00:05:32.720 We're expecting thunderstorms in Calgary today.
00:05:35.220 I think I'm going to sit around the house,
00:05:36.960 maybe watch a movie, play some video games,
00:05:38.940 and maybe just chill out and not bother with any politics.
00:05:42.820 Thanks very much for watching.
00:05:44.160 I do appreciate it.
00:05:45.220 If you like the video, please give me a thumbs up,
00:05:46.900 subscribe to the channel, ring the bell for notifications,
00:05:49.380 and I'll see you in the next one.
