00:00:00.000 Hi, it's John and welcome to the channel 453 a.m. Hope you're having a great start to your
00:00:07.680 Thursday, February the 5th with the big blue mug of coffee. I appreciate you being here. I'm getting
00:00:12.420 close to 46,000 subscribers. If you haven't clicked on subscribe yet, please do that. Just
00:00:17.900 click on subscribe below. I appreciate it very much. So today I woke up with a thought. Okay,
00:00:25.280 John's got a thought. Some of my thoughts are kind of weird, but you know, it's kind of a theme
00:00:29.180 with my thoughts today. Okay, so let me ask you this. We'll start off with this. I'm assuming
00:00:35.220 you're probably more conservative. What do you believe in as a conservative? Think about it for
00:00:41.620 a second. Okay, let's think about it. Now, I'll give you three things. Okay, what do I believe in
00:00:48.640 as a conservative? I believe in personal responsibility. I believe in keeping more of
00:00:53.280 the money I earn, and I believe in less government. Those are three things. There are others, but those
00:00:58.160 are at the top of my list. But very often people will say to me, John, what do you want as a
00:01:03.100 conservative? And I immediately say, I want to be left alone. Okay, because I don't want the
00:01:09.580 government in my life. When government gets involved, things get more expensive and screwed 0.68
00:01:13.880 up. And that's certainly the case of what's happening here in Canada. Liberals don't know
00:01:18.560 when to stop. Even when everything is telling them they should stop, they keep going. And that is
00:01:25.200 certainly the case with about three things I'm going to talk about today. I think it was William
00:01:28.960 F. Buckley Jr. that said, a conservative is a fellow who stands athwart history with his hand up
00:01:35.120 yelling, stop. Well, liberals never stop. In for a penny, in for a pound. Good money after bad. And
00:01:41.420 let's start off with this story right here. And it's about EVs. Now, there is some good news here,
00:01:47.300 but the liberals are screwing it up because they don't know when to stop and they can't leave us alone.
00:01:50.900 Canada's electric vehicle industry is running on subsidies. So expect to hear more about this
00:01:56.060 today. A couple of paragraphs. So far, the only reliable way to get Canadian drivers to buy
00:02:02.200 unpopular electric vehicles has been to have all taxpayers subsidize them to the tune of over $6.3
00:02:08.820 billion to date in federal and provincial grants. If a report by CBC on Wednesday is accurate,
00:02:15.100 the liberals are about to add to that total by reviving the federal EV subsidy program
00:02:20.480 which in its previous iteration paid car buyers up to $5,000 towards the cost of an EV.
00:02:27.320 Why do the liberals continue to want to push EVs on people if they don't want them? Let the market 0.71
00:02:33.080 decide. People buy things that you'll determine what people want. They do that with their feet
00:02:39.820 by going onto a car lot and buying a vehicle. And here's the problem with this. The problem is
00:02:44.820 that the people that can afford EVs are going to be subsidized by you who can't afford one.
00:02:50.200 But here's the awful thing about this. EV mandate may be gone, but now Carney just can't keep his
00:02:56.340 fingers. He can't leave us alone. Let me put it that way. He can't leave us alone. He's going to put
00:03:01.780 new fuel efficiency standards on all the other cars out there while subsidizing EVs. That means more
00:03:08.420 regulations on car manufacturers. And what happens when you put a regulation on something, it generally
00:03:13.840 costs you more. Why won't they leave us alone? And why won't they leave the car industry alone in
00:03:19.260 Canada, which is suffering right now with tens of thousands of lost jobs? Doug Ford is on the war
00:03:24.200 path against Carney right now when it comes to the automotive industry in Ontario. But what did
00:03:30.340 Ronald Reagan say? The government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases.
00:03:35.260 If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it. You can
00:03:41.540 never go wrong with a Reagan quote. Hell, Pierre Pauly have to use this one just on the weekend.
00:03:46.980 As President Reagan says, if a liberal sees something that moves, he taxes it. If it keeps moving,
00:03:54.860 he regulates it. And when it stops moving, he subsidizes it. Let's move on to the next example
00:04:00.980 of how the government won't leave us alone. Even though they should, they just won't stop.
00:04:05.260 In the face of everything, telling them to stop, they keep moving forward. And that would be the
00:04:09.700 federal gun buyback program. Nobody really wants this. Most people are saying they won't comply
00:04:14.620 anyway. You remember this story. Federal government confirms 25 guns collected in buyback pilot as
00:04:20.920 Quebec pledges support. Quebec's in on this. Let them collect the guns. But 25 guns was considered
00:04:26.960 a success by the liberals. It's not. So they got their little pea brains together to try to come up
00:04:33.200 and concoct a better way of getting the guns back. Reagan had another quote. The more the plans fail,
00:04:38.640 the more the planners plan. But then there's this article right here. Police provinces say no to
00:04:44.220 Ottawa. They will not collect guns for federal buyback program. We're yelling stop. They just
00:04:50.140 continue going ahead with the stupidity. They won't leave us alone. Firearm owners have until October 30th 1.00
00:04:56.500 to get rid of the banned guns. But getting rid of them might not be that easy. Public Safety Canada has yet
00:05:01.840 to come up with a plan to collect them. A federal government survey of firearm owners found that
00:05:06.820 67% said gun owners would likely not comply with the new law. Adding to the challenge, the Ontario
00:05:13.160 Provincial Police and the Toronto Police Service, as well as the provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan and
00:05:18.300 Manitoba have said they will not collect guns for the federal government. The Ontario government is
00:05:23.200 leaving it up to individual police forces. Here's Premier Danielle Smith talking about this. 1.00
00:05:28.860 We told the municipalities, no, you can't have a handgun ban. We told the RCMP, no, you cannot
00:05:34.340 participate in the confiscation scheme. We've told our sheriffs that. We have told municipal forces,
00:05:38.680 if you want to participate in the confiscation scheme, you have to come and get a permit from
00:05:42.660 the justice minister. And I have it on good authority. He will not say yes. Gun confiscation,
00:05:46.840 huge issue here in Alberta. Big reason why a lot of people are part of the independence movement.
00:05:50.720 And thank goodness that Alberta is not part of this. But you have to understand. And I said this to
00:05:55.820 some people a few weeks back on Monday night when we had the big independence rally here in Calgary,
00:06:00.120 I said, you know, you're going to be on some list somewhere. If you've got a gun and you live in
00:06:03.580 Alberta, you'll go on a vacation one spring. You'll be coming back into the country. They'll flag you
00:06:08.240 down and say, you've got a gun. And they'll put you in handcuffs and haul you off to jail because you
00:06:11.820 haven't handed in your gun. That's the kind of thing that can happen. So that kind of scares me.
00:06:16.060 But the liberals won't stop with this. They won't leave us alone. And there's another thing that
00:06:19.860 they won't leave us alone. Here it is right here. One of the reasons I'm going to talk about this from an
00:06:25.400 Alberta standpoint, but it probably works out wherever you may live in the country and how
00:06:29.040 the government won't leave you alone. We just want to do things out here in Alberta. One of the
00:06:33.560 reasons why I want Alberta independence, I say they keep saying no to us. They won't leave us alone
00:06:37.800 to do what we want. Think of the prosperity we'd have here in Alberta. Think of the prosperity you'd
00:06:43.900 have in Canada if they would just leave us alone and let us go about our business. But they won't do
00:06:48.360 that. I've done a number of videos over the years. This was the most recent one. Just move it over so you
00:06:53.740 can just see this. It's not Trump's fault. It's the liberals fault. They're stupid. Right? It's true.
00:07:02.180 They're stupid. They won't leave us alone. And the country's in trouble. More on that in just a 1.00
00:07:08.820 second. Here's me going way back to February of last year. Check this out. This is what I said in
00:07:15.160 February of 2025. And I've said it here a dozen times. If I've said it once, it's the liberals that
00:07:23.140 have put us in this situation. And you need to make it clear that Mark Carney, Justin Trudeau,
00:07:28.060 and all the liberals are responsible for where we are right now. Here in Alberta, we've been wanting
00:07:33.200 to start things up. The liberals keep saying stop. No, you can't do that. They won't get out of the way.
00:07:37.760 They won't leave us alone. But here's the amazing thing. Last week, you may remember, I did a video and I
00:07:43.100 talked a little bit about this guy. It was prior to Poliev's leadership review and the convention
00:07:49.260 here in Calgary. And I talked about Stephen Harper. And I wished Poliev the best and hoped that he would
00:07:54.480 do well in his leadership review, which he did. He came through with flying colors. But I said,
00:07:58.360 would you vote for this guy again? Because a lot of people put trust in him. Here he is last night
00:08:04.220 on the 20th anniversary of his first conservative government. And it's a great speech. You might want
00:08:10.580 to seek it out. In fact, I'll put a link in the description so you can watch it. But listen to
00:08:14.460 what he says. Keep in mind what you just heard me say. Great minds think alike.
00:08:20.760 Our national conversation must be mature enough to acknowledge that many of the difficulties we now
00:08:27.140 face as a country cannot be blamed on Donald Trump. In too many cases, they stem from bad decisions
00:08:34.560 by our own government. I find that amazing. I'm not sure who said it. It might have been Ronald
00:08:41.200 Reagan. Government isn't the solution to the problem. Government is the problem. The liberals
00:08:46.440 will not allow us to do things. They won't allow us to start projects. They create regulations. They
00:08:52.400 won't leave us alone. And when somebody with the stature of Stephen Harper is echoing words I said
00:08:59.420 a year ago. I feel like I'm in pretty good company there. I don't know whether you've been paying
00:09:04.340 attention. Did you see this story yesterday? I don't hear too many people talking about it.
00:09:08.400 Canada on recession watch. Economy on life supports. As an economist, we're in deep trouble here.
00:09:14.860 Growth is next to nothing in this country right now because the liberals will not leave us alone.
00:09:20.960 Let me know what you think. Put some comments below. If you like the video, please give it a thumbs up.
