00:02:39.400 So, I think it's important to look back over the last year.
00:02:42.280 And in my case, I wanted to look back
00:02:44.280 at beloved Calgary Mayor Jody Gondek,
00:02:48.540 who, you know, for anyone who lives in Calgary can tell you
00:02:52.200 she's just the most beloved mayor Calgary has ever had.
00:02:56.260 So, today I'm here to talk about the four seasons of Gondek.
00:03:00.860 You know, we're going to talk through the year
00:03:02.900 that Jody Gondek had.
00:03:04.180 And it was quite one.
00:03:05.960 Let's start with spring.
00:03:07.160 In spring, Mayor Gondek said that, you know,
00:03:11.420 being Canadian means never having to own a home
00:03:14.280 or never being able to own a home.
00:03:16.440 But it gives you so much freedom if you don't own a home.
00:03:21.060 And I presume she meant freedom from economic opportunity,
00:03:25.840 freedom from certainty for your future,
00:03:28.300 freedom from having to have enough space
00:03:31.260 to raise your family,
00:03:32.640 to let your kids run around in a yard,
00:03:34.420 and freedom to keep paying rent
00:03:36.420 so that somebody else can build up equity
00:03:38.940 in a home that you don't own.
00:03:41.600 And you have to wonder
00:03:42.840 what was going through Mayor Gondek's mind
00:03:45.400 when she came up with this.
00:03:47.080 It is actually a reflection of something,
00:03:49.360 the World Economic Forum,
00:03:51.260 just another organization
00:03:53.140 that so many True North people love
00:03:56.120 and think so highly of.
00:03:58.100 When the World Economic Forum said,
00:04:00.400 in the future, you'll own nothing
00:04:03.060 and you'll be happy.
00:04:05.000 And I remember we all thought at the time,
00:04:07.000 or you'll own nothing and be miserable
00:04:09.680 because you have nothing
00:04:11.680 of the things that you want,
00:04:13.280 like a car or a home
00:04:15.260 or the savings so you can retire
00:04:17.800 or even enough food to feed your family
00:04:20.500 during tough and high economic times.
00:04:23.280 So that was Jodi Gondek's spring.
00:04:25.900 And she headed into summer.
00:04:27.880 Summer was a great time.
00:04:29.240 Calgary ran out of water.
00:04:30.240 There was no water in Calgary all summer.
00:04:33.440 And for days on end,
00:04:35.300 Mayor Gondek said nothing.
00:04:36.900 We had no uptake from her.

00:04:40.840 to burn her in effigy,

00:04:44.920 to put out the fires afterwards,
