Juno News - A Liberal majority seems very unlikely

00:00:00.000 while things really can change quickly during an election campaign you know it was just over

00:00:09.680 a week ago that i was talking about how when it comes to the canadian federal election yes all

00:00:14.820 the numbers and inertia and conversation suggests that justin trudeau is most likely going to be

00:00:19.980 re-elected and the main question people were talking about is are the numbers showing it's

00:00:23.700 going to be a minority or is it going to be a majority government for him because when you're

00:00:27.560 in a minority uh situation and then you go to the polls earlier than you need to it's probably

00:00:31.780 because you've run the numbers done the calculations and you feel like this is good timing for me if i

00:00:36.380 if i go to the polls now maybe i'll get uh get a majority or i'll get a strong minority or whatever

00:00:41.260 they're looking for that it it favors them the timing and so forth well how a week has changed i

00:00:46.660 mean back then i was saying look things can change on a dime two three weeks later things are completely

00:00:51.320 different so yes it favors justin trudeau but who knows you know aaron o'toole could turn things

00:00:55.660 around and he could be the guy who well he could win it you know things could favor him for for

00:01:00.400 several weeks in the polls and he could ultimately prevail well things have already switched around

00:01:05.140 the numbers are changing the momentum is behind aaron o'toole and justin trudeau well he's kind

00:01:10.620 of losing his luster there's been a few examples of that in just the first week of the campaign

00:01:16.060 a couple smaller gaps some rather bizarre stuff justin trudeau saying at one campaign event that

00:01:21.960 oh he he doesn't bother with monetary policy he doesn't he doesn't think about that sort of stuff

00:01:26.580 and a lot of people going what what is that an economist speaking out going why are you saying

00:01:31.360 that that's a bizarre statement and the bank of canada governor former bank of canada governor

00:01:35.000 david dodge he took to the airwaves to say that justin trudeau should walk that back that is not

00:01:39.760 something that you want to be saying there's another gaffe on on economics related issues where trudeau

00:01:45.260 went on about how uh we need a a she recovery to deal with the she session based on the argument

00:01:51.480 that the pandemic has financially hit women more than it has hit men and so forth and however you

00:01:57.460 want to talk about that particular issue you know economic challenges that are specific to women 0.98

00:02:02.460 it's kind of like that line is is that something serious or is that like the people kind gaffe all over

00:02:08.060 again and a lot of women on social media were like please man don't like this is icky don't say this 0.96

00:02:12.880 sort of stuff and it's funny how things have changed because remember back in 2015 all trudeau

00:02:17.440 had to do a shrug uh this was back when he he appointed his first cabinet with the governor

00:02:21.340 general he just had to shrug and say because it's 2015 when they asked why do you have uh 50

00:02:26.360 representation of women in cabinet and of course he got applause from all over the world i guess he

00:02:30.980 thinks it's just you know so easy to say i'm a feminist and that somehow just automatically carries 0.99

00:02:35.820 you with 50 of the electorate and you you just sort of own their vote so you just have to say those

00:02:40.040 those platitudes even cheesy ones like the she cover she session and it works for you well it

00:02:45.400 looks like it doesn't work anymore so a lot of women not happy with that and then the big ticket 1.00

00:02:51.560 one of course which is the situation in afghanistan i mean this pretty much happened on the day he went

00:02:58.140 to the governor general to say let's have an election uh to dissolve parliament to drop the writ and so forth

00:03:03.000 and you know this is something where we've heard from canadian military sources some of my colleagues

00:03:08.760 at post media hearing from military commanders saying you know we had plans to airlift people

00:03:13.900 out of the airport out of cabal uh people who had been identified in need of our help you know that

00:03:18.840 very day and yet the liberals and and all the sort of political strategists around them they were too

00:03:24.740 busy dealing with the election to actually put time into dealing with the situation in afghanistan and

00:03:29.480 now we have a humanitarian crisis unfolding that canada could have gotten ahead of this is extremely

00:03:35.400 serious and a lot of people saying like come on you you got to do more even right now and it continues

00:03:40.980 to dog him as it should because it's an incredibly serious uh situation on the ground there and why

00:03:46.520 weren't we more prepared as so many voices in our country and around the world are saying about yes the

00:03:51.800 u.s and other countries but canada's position as well so there you go one week and justin chudeau says

00:03:57.340 here i am i'm going to get my majority i'm going to govern for the next 10 years or what have you

00:04:00.920 and then one week just kind of just kind of turns it all around is it going to stay like this could

00:04:06.040 things come back into justin chudeau's favor of course because the whole thing is anything can

00:04:09.940 happen but right now it's not looking good for him certainly not as good as he had hoped
