On Wednesday, an out-of-control mob attacked the U.S. Capitol and gained access to the offices of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, and the Senate. Meanwhile, closer to home, the Prime Minister seemed to tease about a surprise election call sometime this year, the impetus seems to be a plan to triple the carbon tax from its current $30 per tonne to a whopping $170 a tonne by 2030.

00:00:00.000 What a momentous week in the news. Let's talk about a few of the items of
00:00:10.440 interest. Let's start south of the border. On Wednesday, an out-of-control mob
00:00:17.120 attacked the US Capitol in Washington DC. What was striking to me is how quickly
00:00:24.000 they're able to breach the perimeter and gain access inside including to areas
00:00:29.240 such as the office of Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Senate chamber itself. It's
00:00:35.720 hard for me to imagine that in this day and age a building of the importance of
00:00:40.640 the Capitol was breached so easily. Video showed a breach on the ground floor
00:00:46.580 window that was just glass. Any security expert worth their salt would target
00:00:52.880 harden any ground floor windows with Lexan or plexiglass. Not to have done so
00:00:58.040 seems highly irresponsible. Capitol Police Chief Stephen Sund tendered his
00:01:04.280 resignation in the wake of the mess in Congress and that is as it should be.
00:01:09.500 The Capitol Police failed to secure the seat of government in the United States. A
00:01:14.420 stunning failure. Meanwhile, closer to home. The Prime Minister seemed to tease
00:01:21.920 about a surprise election call sometime this year. The impetus seems to be the
00:01:27.320 Prime Minister's plan to triple the carbon tax from its current $30 per tonne to a
00:01:33.680 whopping $170 per tonne by 2030. He then chided the opposition by saying they'd have
00:01:40.340 a chance to fight over the issue on the Hustings long before that happens, seemingly
00:01:45.620 daring them to challenge him. Considering that Justin Trudeau has increased taxes on
00:01:50.780 Canadians every year since he took office in 2015, that is not usually a winner for a
00:01:57.620 politician. But Trudeau seems inured to public opinion and certainly to the
00:02:03.380 protestations of the opposition. He has, for all intents and purposes, shut down
00:02:09.560 Parliament, eliminating any debate which might be critical of him or his government.
00:02:14.120 Remember when we used to be a democracy? Yet Trudeau only has a minority
00:02:20.000 government after last year's election. One might have thought that would rein him
00:02:25.040 in and he might just listen to the opinions of the population. That is
00:02:30.680 certainly not the case. Will he call a snap election? An interesting question.
00:02:37.160 Certainly he wants a majority government, but does he take the risk? The
00:02:43.700 Fraser Institute just released their Canadian Consumer Tax Index for 2020. The
00:02:50.000 tax burden on Canadians is higher than ever before. We are spending 42.6 of our
00:02:56.000 total income on taxes in Justin Trudeau's Canada. That compares to 36.2% of
00:03:02.780 income on housing, food and clothing. Not a sort of platform I would want to fight an
00:03:08.840 election upon. Finally, there is the blatant censorship of conservative
00:03:14.240 speech by big tech. Yesterday, Twitter permanently closed the account of the
00:03:19.520 President of the United States, which has been his primary method of
00:03:23.420 communication with the American people. But it didn't end there. The social media
00:03:28.820 platform Parley is under attack by Google, who are threatening to delist the app from their
00:03:35.120 search engines and app store. Trump had 88 million followers and had tweeted over
00:03:43.280 57,000 times since assuming the office of the presidency. He received over 74 million
00:03:50.180 votes in the November election. Twitter has just given the finger to half the
00:03:55.400 country. But it's not just in the US. It is universal. In the True North world alone in
00:04:03.000 the past 24 hours, Twitter has eliminated over 300 followers from me. The True North
00:04:09.060 account is down about 1,000 followers, as is Andrew Lawton. And make no mistake, if it
00:04:15.540 can happen to Donald Trump, it can happen to you or anyone, for that matter. That is a
00:04:21.600 frightening situation. For True North, I'm Leo Knight.
