00:00:00.000 On Tuesday, the Prime Minister met with Toronto Mayor John Tory, ostensibly to discuss more gun

00:00:14.880 control measures. Toronto is having the worst year for shooting since 1991, even eclipsing

00:00:21.300 the so-called year of the gun in 2005. To think that these two vacuous politicians could actually

00:00:28.080 legislate anything that might have an effect on the problem is nonsense. The fact that they think

00:00:34.400 some sort of handgun ban in the city of Toronto will somehow prevent a gangster in the Jane Finch

00:00:40.400 area to not stick that illegal nine-millimeter pistol on his belt on his way out the door 1.00

00:00:44.900 is naive in the extreme, or plain stupid. You can take your choice. At the same time, the Canadian 1.00

00:00:51.300 Association of Chiefs of Police were meeting in Calgary. On Wednesday, the head of that organization,

00:00:56.960 Chief Adam Palmer of the Vancouver Police Department, gave a statement essentially saying the CACP

00:01:02.720 would not be supporting a call for more gun legislation or a ban on handguns. Using a level

00:01:08.660 of common sense seemingly missing in the Prime Minister's office, he said in the majority of

00:01:13.840 cases, the weapons are illegal, and they are already prohibited. It makes no sense to ban

00:01:19.240 something already banned. Nailed it! How is it the whiz kids surrounding the Prime Minister and the Mayor

00:01:27.560 of Toronto can't see the blindingly obvious? The RCMP in Surrey busted a drug lab this week linked to a

00:01:34.920 street gang called the Brothers Keepers. In the show-and-tell police do after these events, there were

00:01:41.640 several weapons prominently displayed along with the bags of drugs. Every one of those weapons is

00:01:47.960 already prohibited. Yet, the gangsters had them anyway. Chief Palmer illustrated the problem clearly

00:01:55.080 when he said, quote, there will always be an influx of guns from the United States into Canada, unquote.

00:02:01.640 Heroin is illegal in Canada too, but we have heroin in Canada. He finished saying, quote,

00:02:08.200 people can't be naive to the realities of how it works with organized crime and smuggling,

00:02:13.160 unquote. He is, of course, entirely correct. The movement of guns northward from the U.S. has long

00:02:19.460 been a problem, at least since the days of the Prohibition and the Rum Runners. We share the 0.70

00:02:24.040 longest undefended border in the world, part of which also includes First Nations Reserve that straddled

00:02:29.720 the border, such as Oknesosny, between New York and Ontario. All manner of smuggled goods crossed the

00:02:36.160 border through them with absolutely zero checks by authorities. We have a gun problem in Canada,

00:02:42.660 but it is an illegal gun problem. Chief Palmer is entirely correct. What is the point of prohibiting

00:02:49.680 something that is already prohibited? Instead, perhaps we should be looking at the resources needed

00:02:55.960 to securing the border and preventing the smuggling of these illegal weapons. We might even stop some of

00:03:01.740 the illegal immigrants while we're at it. For True North, I'm Leo Knight. Unlike most in the mainstream 0.99
