00:00:00.000 hey everyone welcome back to the Alberta Roundup I'm your host Rachel Emanuel today we are going
00:00:16.040 to a town hall on the situation in Chestermere last week I interviewed former Chestermere mayor
00:00:21.080 Jeff Colvin as well as former city councillor Stephen Hanley they were dismissed along with
00:00:26.560 two other city councillors and three CAOs by municipal affairs minister Rick McIvor and they're
00:00:32.760 saying that they were dismissed after looking into allegations of corruption in the city of
00:00:37.760 Chestermere and now they're trying to get their jobs back I went to this town hall in which they
00:00:42.540 were speaking about the situation to see what some of you guys think and whether or not you support
00:00:47.840 Mayor Colvin let's take a look hey everyone it's Rachel Emanuel of Trudorth I'm here in Calgary
00:00:52.600 where the former mayor of Chestermere who was dismissed by Alberta municipal affairs minister
00:00:58.860 Rick McIvor is here for a town hall with some of his councillors to explain why they were dismissed
00:01:03.520 and why they think it's wrong I interviewed them last week on my show we'll play a couple clips for
00:01:08.400 you guys you can also go back and watch that episode but I did get the chance to talk to some
00:01:12.240 people about why they're here tonight let's go check it out come on what do you think of the
00:01:16.720 situation with the mayor three CAOs and the city councillors being dismissed by municipal affairs
00:01:21.300 minister Rick McIvor well I think Rick McIvor completely misunderstood what the Chestermere people
00:01:28.140 like and want and we definitely like Mayor Colvin and what he's been doing for us and we really think
00:01:36.240 that Rick McIvor overstepped his bounds I think it's unlawful there's never been any evidence
00:01:42.840 provided by Rick McIvor to remove them and and when you look at the ACERT investigation that was
00:01:50.180 requested by the mayor there's multiple stories inside that ACERT delineating a lot of criminal
00:01:55.980 activity and so for the minister to come in and remove the mayor and then for that ACERT investigation
00:02:02.100 to disappear I mean when you look at criminal code 1392 it sure looks like a criminal offense to me
00:02:08.420 have you heard about the fact that the mayor and the councillors have been dismissed by the municipal
00:02:12.320 affairs minister yeah that's right I heard that too yeah it's too bad because you know everything's
00:02:18.300 on hold did you think they were doing a good job before they were dismissed I think so I think they
00:02:24.220 were doing a good job we had talked to him before he was elected and we told him what we needed done
00:02:30.440 getting rid of COI and and all the waste and and corruption that was going on there and just doing
00:02:37.060 something about those things and he stepped up and he did everything that we expected some of the
00:02:43.940 people that we told him to let go he didn't let go but you know that's he's he's the boss sort of
00:02:50.260 thing and you know that's that's up to him but yeah I I found that he was doing everything that we
00:02:57.600 asked him to do and I was happy we weren't really in on what was going on and suddenly we have no mayor
00:03:05.080 and council and we're trying to get things done we're trying to build houses we're trying to to live
00:03:10.260 our lives and how do you do that without a mayor and council and they just essentially did it without
00:03:15.840 asking us what do you think needs to happen next I think we need an election now and let's get our
00:03:25.840 council back because we're going to vote them all back in anyway I've been following this event for
00:03:32.400 months and I find that there's really something missing when you find when you try to get to the
00:03:40.620 detail the Alberta government really is disappointing to me you know I think Smith is good but when it
00:03:49.680 comes down to trying to deal with this kind of stuff it's like there is no one to talk to my MLA
00:03:56.820 I talked to her twice now she says no can't talk about this why because it's in the courts what I
00:04:05.340 want to talk about is nothing that's in the courts it's what's out in public it's the cuff report you
00:04:11.400 know I've read that thing twice maybe three times you think I can't understand it put it in in terms of
00:04:18.580 of what common people can understand and I just really think some disservice has been done to the
00:04:26.500 people in Chastamere so you felt that the mayor was doing a good job rooting out corruption why then
00:04:31.180 do you think that minister McIver dismissed him corruption you think the minister is corrupt yes
00:04:36.660 his brother-in-law is a previous mayor and he wants his brother-in-law back in and when I came into my
00:04:41.900 office my office was completely clean so what I mean by that is not a piece of paper not a pen not a paper
00:04:48.480 clip not a notepad not some files in the drawers that that what was the past projects the mayor was
00:04:54.060 working on there was nothing not a thing I looked in the computer not an electronic file not an email
00:05:00.440 everything had been deleted everything had been erased so that kind of gets your spidey senses a little
00:05:06.540 bit we were willing to actually look behind the curtain it got a lot of um retribution I think the
00:05:14.260 mainstream media has done a good a good job of covering up the story um and so a lot of people
00:05:19.700 are not aware of what's going on that's for sure how would you like to see this situation resolved
00:05:23.360 uh McIver should resign and Jeff and the other councillors they have to be reinstated because
00:05:29.980 they were deprived of their right to do process I'd like to see coven and the councillors reinstated
00:05:37.060 but I think we need to even wind it back further because I'd like to know what's going on with the
00:05:43.480 province and why they kicked out coven I'd like to know the detail behind the report in a more
00:05:51.760 understanding method I'd like them to explain it to us and explain what were the reasons they got
00:05:57.640 rid of the councillors and and Jeff I would like to see Daniel Smith get involved personally and clean
00:06:04.340 this mess up because it really is a mess there's there's a lot of corruption going on and there's
00:06:08.480 nothing being done about it what do you think Danielle needs to do specifically fire Rick McIver 1.00
00:06:14.760 for not for starters um and then we need a full encompassing uh independent third party criminal
00:06:22.360 investigation into these matters okay everyone that's all we have time for today thank you so
00:06:26.520 much for tuning in I will be back on Saturday with my regular programming but until then I hope that
00:06:31.200 you all have a very blessed good Friday I'll see you on Saturday God bless
