Elon Musk just humiliated the CBC into oblivion and to say the woke public broadcaster had it coming would be an understatement. You see, up until yesterday, there were a few things that all Canadians could agree on but one pretty safe, uncontroversial fact is that the CBC is government funded. Every year in their financial report, the Liberal Party likes to brag about how much money they spend on the CBC and Justin Trudeau himself likes to make jokes about giving the CBC more money in return for positive headlines.

00:00:00.000 Elon Musk just humiliated the CBC
00:00:29.820 into oblivion yesterday and to say the woke public broadcaster had it coming would be an
00:00:35.020 understatement. You see up until yesterday there were a few things that all Canadians could agree
00:00:38.780 on but one pretty safe uncontroversial fact is that the CBC is government funded. The CBC publicly
00:00:45.460 state that every year in their financial report the Liberal Party likes to brag about how much
00:00:49.580 money they spend on the CBC and Justin Trudeau himself he likes to make jokes about giving the
00:00:54.380 CBC more money in return for positive headlines. You sometimes hear about liberal bias in the
00:00:59.800 media these days how they're constantly letting off our government letting our government off
00:01:04.600 the hook for no good reason. Frankly I think that's insulting. It's clear that they let us off the hook
00:01:12.940 for a very good reason because we paid them 600 million dollars. But when Elon Musk slapped a
00:01:19.740 government funded media label on the CBC's Twitter account well all hell broke loose inside the
00:01:24.280 Canadian establishment. Justin Trudeau in typical fashion attacked Pierre Polyev for some reason. The
00:01:29.080 CBC publicly declared their editorial independence before shutting down all of their Twitter accounts
00:01:34.360 and ministers of the crown labeled the opposition leader a threat to Canadian democracy all over a
00:01:41.160 simple Twitter tag. In response to this Twitter has made their government funded media tag more clear
00:01:46.460 under the CBC's page. It now reads 69% government funded media. Honestly does it get any better than
00:01:53.880 that? Drop a like in the video help us out by subscribing to the True North YouTube channel
00:01:57.440 and the comment question for the episode is this. Is there any reason for the CBC to exist
00:02:03.040 in Canada today? Let me know and let's get into it. The CBC has no problem being labeled as government
00:02:09.120 funded on Wikipedia or on YouTube but being labeled government funded being labeled what they are
00:02:14.860 on Twitter. That was a step too far. Just take a look at how the woke propagandists at the CBC
00:02:19.660 responded to being labeled as government funded. Exactly what they are. Our journalism is impartial
00:02:25.560 and independent. To suggest otherwise is untrue. That is why we are pausing our activities on Twitter.
00:02:31.840 Oh yeah the CBC is totally impartial except for when their chief Ottawa correspondent sued the
00:02:37.060 conservatives in the 2019 election when they had to retract untrue stories about the freedom convoy
00:02:41.840 which conveniently helped the government crush the peaceful protest and when they constantly demonize
00:02:46.440 conservatives. Except for that they're totally impartial and totally independent. And doing what
00:02:51.400 the CBC does best, doing what any true impartial and independent media outlet does, they shut down
00:02:56.900 replies. But predictably the CBC is getting crushed on Twitter. The quote tweets are just amazing.
00:03:03.380 Glenn Greenwald responded by saying this. It's just a simple fact that the CBC gets Canadian government
00:03:08.440 funding. If they're embarrassed by it, they should reject it. Google has placed similar labels on BBC,
00:03:14.100 NPR, and CBC on their YouTube channels but they're afraid to complain to Google the way they do for
00:03:18.980 Twitter. Jordan Peterson responded this way. No one with an iota of sense believes this. Pause away,
00:03:24.720 you won't be missed at CBC. Another step forward to your well-deserved self-demolition. And Michael
00:03:30.780 Malice responded this way to Twitter. The enemy of the people is fleeing. Something no Republican has been
00:03:36.420 able to accomplish. God bless you at Elon Musk. All it took to get the entire CBC operation off
00:03:42.240 of Twitter was to place a government-funded media tag underneath the main Twitter account of the
00:03:47.240 CBC. Who knew it was that easy? Now the best meltdown over all of this didn't come from a CBC
00:03:52.280 journalist. It came from the man who signs their checks. It came from the man who benefits the most
00:03:57.260 from their state-funded propaganda. Just watch this. I think it says a lot about the Conservative
00:04:02.800 Party of Canada. That they're choosing to constantly attack independent media organizations.
00:04:09.440 Independent media organizations? Even he doesn't believe that. Journalists who are working hard
00:04:14.680 to keep Canadians informed and support our democracy. CBC Radio Canada serves right across
00:04:23.120 the country. Delivers local news and local content in many regions of the country. It, yes, has been
00:04:30.160 challenged over the past years. But the idea of adding to that challenge is, and laying on, by attacking
00:04:37.840 this Canadian institution, attacking the culture and local content that is so important to so many
00:04:43.280 Canadians, really indicates the values and the approach that Mr. Polyev is putting forward.
00:04:49.680 And I think it is telling that in order to attack this institution that is important for many,
00:04:55.920 many Canadians, he runs to American billionaires, the tech giants that they continue to defend in
00:05:03.520 committee and in their approach on our legislation to make tech giants pay their fair share. Conservatives
00:05:10.240 are always there to defend them. So when they're trying to attack a foundational Canadian institution,
00:05:14.000 the fact that he has to run to American billionaires for support to attack Canadians,
00:05:20.400 says a lot about Mr. Polyev and his values.
00:05:22.960 Hold on there. American billionaires? I thought a Canadian is a Canadian is a Canadian,
00:05:28.160 Justin Trudeau. Last I checked, Elon Musk is a Canadian citizen. Now, to be fair,
00:05:33.360 Justin Trudeau's frustration is understandable. He's singing in the polls, his popularity is plummeting,
00:05:38.240 and he just lost his main propaganda mouthpiece on Twitter. That's gotta hurt.
00:05:42.240 Now, if that wasn't enough for you, the reaction from Justin Trudeau's convicted climate change
00:05:46.640 minister, Stephen Gilbeau, was quite something. Take a look at this. Millions of Canadians rely on
00:05:52.160 CBC Radio Canada. At Pierre Polyev wants to shut down these homegrown information services
00:05:58.240 and sides with US media giants. Polyev is a threat to Canadian democracy, plain and simple. 0.70
00:06:05.680 Oh, nothing to see here. Just a minister of the crown labeling the opposition leader a threat to
00:06:09.840 Canadian democracy. Totally normal times. Totally a normal thing to say over a public broadcaster
00:06:16.480 being labeled a public broadcaster. Now, at least for all of us, Gilbeau got brutally
00:06:21.040 ratioed for labeling the opposition leader a threat to democracy. 4,500 replies to only 2,800 likes.
00:06:28.240 Take a look at these responses. What does freezing bank accounts say about JT's values? Yeah,
00:06:33.280 Polyev is a threat to Canadian democracy. Totally. Millions of Canadians would rather keep their money out 1.00
00:06:38.240 of filthy, corrupt government hands. Couldn't have put it better myself. No, hundreds of Canadians
00:06:43.680 rely on CBC, and they all live in Toronto, and they're all transgender, two-spirit BIPOCs, 0.94
00:06:48.480 and they want to force all Canadians to listen to their stories. Obviously paying attention to the
00:06:52.720 CBC's cringe-worthy response to rage quit on Twitter, out of being labeled what they themselves
00:06:58.240 openly admit, and also seeing Justin Trudeau attack Pierre Polyev, Elon Musk wanted to make sure that
00:07:03.440 his label on Twitter for the CBC was a bit more accurate. Take a look at this. Canadian Broadcasting
00:07:09.200 Corp said they're less than 70% government-funded, so we corrected the label. Now it says 69%
00:07:15.920 government-funded. Elon Musk's labeling of Twitter went from an epic troll to a straight-up Canadian
00:07:21.360 heritage moment. But seriously, when did basic facts become so difficult for the CBC? They don't
00:07:28.560 want people to know that they're just a mouthpiece for the state? If that's the case,
00:07:31.760 they should have told their finance team to not publicly state on their website how much money
00:07:36.640 they receive every year from the government. $1.4 billion in 2021, $1.25 billion in 2022.
00:07:44.160 Now to be fair, it does look as though the CBC are a little bit embarrassed about how much money
00:07:48.320 they receive from all of us, the taxpayer. Take a look at this in-house CBC financials graphic.
00:07:54.000 Notice those little squiggly lines on the y-axis that indicate a billion-dollar jump?
00:07:59.280 It's a little misleading there. Looking at this graph at face value, you might think the CBC receives a
00:08:04.240 small amount of government funding. Now this is what the graph would look like if they weren't
00:08:08.000 trying to mislead you. Bit of a different look there, isn't it? Pretty embarrassing for the CBC.
00:08:13.360 But why do they have to take such issue with being government-funded if it's so obviously funded by
00:08:18.640 all of us? As mentioned in the intro, the Liberal Party of Canada doesn't hide their love for funding
00:08:23.440 the CBC. On their own website, they state it publicly. Canada wouldn't be the same without
00:08:28.320 the CBC. Are you sure about that? That's why Justin Trudeau and the Liberals invested $675
00:08:34.640 million in funding to revitalize the CBC. So it's not just government-funded,
00:08:39.280 it's Justin Trudeau-funded. Straight from the Liberal Party of Canada.
00:08:42.880 So that's it. The 69% CBC. They're no longer on Twitter. Don't worry, I'm sure they'll be back soon
00:08:47.840 enough. When Justin Trudeau calls an election, the CBC will be right there to provide some
00:08:52.880 independent media coverage that definitely won't slander the Conservatives. All right,
00:08:56.560 that's going to do it for us today on the show. Thank you so much for tuning in.
00:08:59.040 My name is Harrison Faulkner, and this is Ratio.
