00:00:00.000 Well, another sign the affordability crisis may be getting worse in Canada, more people
00:00:10.000 are having to rely on food banks than ever before, just despite the PM's assurances
00:00:15.800 things are getting more affordable at grocery stores.
00:00:19.500 According to Food Banks Canada, visits to food banks hit another record high, up almost
00:00:25.720 nine percent to 2.35 million per month one in three of those visits involved children and 21
00:00:33.560 percent of food banks ran out of goods before everyone could be helped meantime the government
00:00:42.360 remains committed to increasing the number of people coming in to canada over time despite
00:00:47.640 claims it is bringing immigration under control prime minister carney is on record as favoring
00:00:54.120 an increase in the numbers he told the new york times he favors higher immigration levels meantime
00:01:00.360 conservative party leader pierre polyev says the alberta referendum results show that canadians
00:01:07.000 wanting more control over who gets into their provinces and how many people get in let's listen
00:01:12.440 i note there were also questions on the referendum about immigration and i thought it was inappropriate
00:01:19.560 for the prime minister to tell canadians that and tell albertans that they should vote to continue
00:01:26.200 to give deluxe taxpayer benefits to people who are illegal illegally here to give them benefits
00:01:33.720 that canadians who paid into the system their whole lives do not even receive and for the
00:01:38.760 prime minister to suggest that albertans vote in favor of continued mass unvetted out of control
00:01:44.520 immigration was a mistake. I support the decision of Albertans and I support
00:01:52.700 bringing immigration back under control. The provinces should have control in 0.98
00:01:57.960 selection and numbers because they have to provide the services, regulate the
00:02:01.980 job market and the housing for people who come in. And taxpayers should not be
00:02:07.320 forced to pay deluxe benefits to people who are here illegally. 0.99
00:02:12.120 Our guest today is former Conservative MP and online commentator, Michelle Leahy-Ferrari. 1.00
00:02:18.000 Welcome to the show, Michelle.
00:02:19.400 Hey, Mark. Thanks for having me.
00:02:21.800 Great to have you on.
00:02:23.000 Well, talk about these issues.
00:02:24.120 We could start off with the food bank numbers.
00:02:26.500 I mean, it wasn't that long ago that this prime minister said, you know, things are more affordable now than they have been in years.
00:02:32.400 Ten years, I think he said.
00:02:34.460 Affordable is the best it's been in over a decade, Mark.
00:02:38.040 Well, apparently not.
00:02:39.320 at least if you believe these numbers now from food banks canada of course they're right on the
00:02:43.460 ground these are people at you know the ground zero when it comes to seeing canadians uh who
00:02:49.080 need to put food on the table and simply can't afford to go go to the grocery store listen this
00:02:54.520 is uh i did a quick google search so when i was member of parliament two years ago i went to the
00:03:00.260 food banks report card uh every year they would come out they would come to ottawa they would ring
00:03:05.700 these alarm bells these folks were like guys this is a existential crisis this is getting worse this
00:03:13.420 is not getting better this is the worst we've ever seen in history like there was they weren't you
00:03:18.300 know this is as dramatic and as serious as it gets and i did a just a quick little google search
00:03:25.000 before uh i did this interview mark um on hansert how many times conservatives brought up food bank
00:03:32.740 usage from 2020 so not even from when they took power in 2015 from 2020 over 4 000 interventions
00:03:42.420 where we said this is an existential crisis like we live in canada okay we don't we don't live in a
00:03:50.100 third world country we live in canada and one third of all food bank users are kids and any
00:03:56.980 mp who's done their due diligence when they go back to their riding and visits a food bank or
00:04:01.620 takes the meetings in their office where people are coming to them that run volunteer food cupboards
00:04:05.980 in their local communities in these rural communities that have been ringing the alarm
00:04:10.120 bells not only is the food bank usage the highest we've ever seen in history mark
00:04:13.920 we're running out of food i went to gage town in new brunswick this is a canadian forces base
00:04:21.640 when i was a member of parliament and i told this story multiple times in the house of commons and
00:04:26.040 it it actually blew my mind so the woman serving at the food bank is standing in front of a
00:04:32.840 a map of all the families they serve at this food bank and she has little pins where it's served
00:04:39.900 and in the middle of cfb gage town she has a bunch of pins and i said why why are there pins
00:04:48.820 of military families using the food bank and she said oh we have about 50 a month
00:04:56.040 50 a month and so you know i think it's gotten to a point where you know people have listened
00:05:05.460 to me drone on about this food poverty food insecurity and then to create programs to try
00:05:11.840 to make it better have significantly made it worse like you now have a responsibility if you don't
00:05:18.360 vote liberal you vote conservative or you've seen and understand what's going on you have a
00:05:23.360 responsibility to have a conversation with somebody who votes liberal. Because this is now
00:05:28.640 no longer about, oh, this is my team and this is your team. This is actually about people in our
00:05:35.640 country and our neighbors who are going to the food bank, which ties directly in with your second
00:05:42.200 issue that you've brought up, which is unmitigated immigration. So you have a prime minister who
00:05:49.480 tells the New York Times, not Canadians, that he's going to increase immigration. He appoints
00:05:55.640 Dominic Barton. Dominic Barton is the head of the Century Initiative who wants to bring in 100
00:06:01.720 million people by, I can't, what year is that? 2030? Well, 2100, I think. 2100, sorry, thank you.
00:06:10.100 Century Initiative. Yes, Century Initiative, you're right. And he wants to bring in
00:06:16.040 more people into this country when we've just lost in the last month almost 70 000 jobs
00:06:22.900 he's created scarcity now if anybody read my sub stack in the last week this is a gentleman who
00:06:29.460 came here 26 years ago from dubai as a 20 as a 16 year old international student he's an indo-canadian
00:06:37.220 and his words let me tell you if you want me to read them to you mark i can but he does not mince
00:06:42.680 them he is devastated that he is being painted with the same brush as the criminals and the 0.67
00:06:49.680 low quality immigrants that have been brought into this country some of whom are terrorists 0.99
00:06:54.540 some who are like we have 700 irgc terrorists in our country and they've created scarcity which 0.99
00:06:59.880 has created division and racism you don't have enough housing you don't have enough health care
00:07:04.640 you don't have enough jobs you have food bank usage that's skyrocketing daycare all of these
00:07:11.300 programs that the liberals tout are perfection and a prime minister that has the gall to say two
00:07:18.700 things affordability is the best it's ever been in over a decade and our house is in order
00:07:24.440 shame on him and shame on anyone who's who is supporting him at this point because these
00:07:31.180 results are true human suffering this saturday british colombians have a chance to vote for
00:07:37.600 safer neighbourhoods, to vote for healthcare that works, to vote for repealing DRIPA, to vote for
00:07:44.400 sanity in our classrooms, to vote for jobs, to vote for tax relief, to vote out David Eby and
00:07:52.120 the NDP. It's time for strong, serious leadership. This Saturday, vote Conservative.
00:07:58.580 how does the government kind of skate past this issue they keep telling us one thing they keep
00:08:10.440 telling us that though the affordability issue is we've got it under control and don't worry
00:08:15.400 about immigration unfortunately they've got a huge trust problem don't they because of course 0.91
00:08:20.200 they're the ones who created the immigration problem the disaster now maybe they could say
00:08:25.660 Well, that was another previous, you know, prime minister, which, of course, you got to know when you were in the House as a member of Parliament.
00:08:33.020 But I don't think that Mr. Carney is all that different in terms of his attitudes.
00:08:37.100 And the mask comes off when he's talking to, you know, the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times, right?
00:08:42.540 I guess he feels more inclined to tell the truth when he's talking to U.S. media and when he's talking to Canadians.
00:08:49.740 But you're right. We're not a third world country, but we seem to be importing a lot of the third world. 1.00
00:08:55.260 and that's making a lot of Canadians nervous. 1.00
00:08:58.020 And I think they've done some internal polling,
00:09:00.900 the Liberal Party has.
00:09:01.600 They know what an explosive issue
00:09:03.080 this immigration problem is. 1.00
00:09:04.940 They want to bring more people in. 1.00
00:09:06.940 We know that.
00:09:08.400 Absolutely.
00:09:09.440 They need another voting bloc in the next few years
00:09:12.840 as the boomers, the over 55s and up,
00:09:16.360 you know, the group that I'm in, 1.00
00:09:17.980 they're going to start dying off eventually, these people.
00:09:20.920 And that's a good chunk of the people.
00:09:23.220 They're support-based right now.
00:09:24.440 once that group goes they need to fill in uh the new voting bloc right they need a new huge voting
00:09:31.540 block and that's why they need more people coming into the country i'm absolutely convinced that
00:09:35.680 this is purely political and you can either weigh in on that or we can change subjects and talk
00:09:42.740 about the alberta referendum if you want i'll leave it up to you well i think they're all all
00:09:47.380 in one and they're all connected it's a spiderweb mark and i think you know the alberta referendum
00:09:52.720 is is an absolute reflection of the frustration of canadians and the you don't respect me and
00:10:01.160 and it is a hundred percent political it's always political and you know like this is the reality
00:10:09.840 of what they do they they create this problem okay so they make you suffer and you you don't
00:10:17.660 you're paying 47 percent in tax everything is exploding groceries prices are high higher than
00:10:23.240 they've ever been food bank usage is higher than it's ever been and then they come out and say
00:10:27.820 we're going to give you a grocery rebate and they're going to give you a grocery rebate with
00:10:33.280 your money so the the analogy i've always said is they cut off your arm and then they show up and
00:10:39.120 give you a band-aid and say i'm going to help you oh my gosh that must be terrible and what i've
00:10:44.480 really noticed is they they've actually gotten more arrogant about it like this appointment of
00:10:51.260 Dominic Barton I keep coming back to that because people need to pay attention to who this guy is
00:10:56.400 and it's liberal insiders and if you're on the if you're on the club if you're in the club you're
00:11:01.280 doing fine if you're not in the club screw you and your collateral damage right and every program
00:11:08.920 they have like i was the critic for child care winners and losers that thank god it was exposed
00:11:14.920 through the bc election of david evey which we've all been saying forever it's the haves and have
00:11:20.360 nots the people who are you know shouldn't be accessing this program are accessing this program
00:11:25.080 and the people who need it the most are left in the dust you know david evey yeah i use ten dollar
00:11:30.360 a day child care even though we make over 300 or whatever thousand dollars a year meanwhile the
00:11:34.920 single moms are writing in bc had to pause this program because there's no that they they can't
00:11:40.440 they can't sustain it it's a it's an exact perfect replica of every liberal program they have and 0.70
00:11:48.040 again i can't i can't stress this enough like this is i need you to stop having an identity of being
00:11:55.320 a liberal and start having an identity of being a canadian like if you care about your country
00:12:02.360 stop voting for the people who are destroying it and if you don't see that they're destroying it
00:12:09.080 then i strongly encourage you to go downtown because this is the other problem if you don't
00:12:13.720 live in a downtown if you live in an elite neighborhood and you don't see the addiction
00:12:17.960 and homeless crisis that has taken ravage over every downtown community in this country then
00:12:22.840 you don't think it's real you think people are making it up then go to a food bank and serve
00:12:28.120 like i served at breakfast i talked to these people i saw these kids like there's a food
00:12:36.520 bank in peterborough there are children in line there every week like if that this is this is no
00:12:44.920 longer hey guys this is i'm a liberal i'm like your your community is no longer safe you let out
00:12:53.320 violent repeat offenders on the streets to terrorize people when they take their dog for a
00:12:58.360 walk like go to that gentleman in orillia five minutes from his house from an opp station walking
00:13:05.400 his dogs who was murdered by a violent repeat offender out on bail but the liberals promised 0.69
00:13:12.120 they were formed bail you can't trust a damn word they say they have given you no reason to trust
00:13:19.000 them they've given you no reason to believe them other than you've decided you identify 0.70
00:13:24.600 as not conservative and my plea to people right now when they read these these food bank reports
00:13:31.080 this is not sensationalism this is not somebody making this up these are people on the front line
00:13:36.520 telling you that canadians are starving and can't feed themselves so stop voting liberal yeah and
00:13:43.320 And they're going to start missing mortgage payments, already have started.
00:13:48.560 And, you know, we're going to see that as interest rates, of course, are at a level that people can't afford now to get their mortgage renewed.
00:13:57.180 And so that's starting to become an issue more and more as well.
00:14:01.020 And it's hurting families. 0.75
00:14:02.880 So you think that Canadians put their liberalism ahead of their Canadianism. 0.99
00:14:09.680 Did I hear you correctly on that?
00:14:12.280 i would say yes i would say that's their identity and it's even more than that it's i'm not a
00:14:20.140 conservative yeah right and so when you how do you fight that i mean like when your kids are
00:14:28.380 impacted you know i recently i do a lot of work in addiction and recovery i just came back from
00:14:33.560 a fundraiser out of newfoundland st john's beautiful and all of the people i talked to
00:14:39.280 who have been successful in recovery and were pulled out of those depths, like I'm talking
00:14:44.000 about people that you think are not savable, right? Like they're living under a bridge,
00:14:47.540 they're folded over, they're unrecognizable. And these people are now like Jordan Anderson,
00:14:52.560 who runs Alpha House out of Toronto area. He's the executive director. Like this guy was as
00:14:58.560 bad as it gets. Like these are the stories that we need hope from. And nobody chooses to get
00:15:06.360 better for themselves. They do it for someone else. And so when you identify as not a conservative
00:15:12.720 or a liberal or Mark Carney's amazing, and that's become your identity. The only way that I can see
00:15:20.360 to flip somebody's mind or to change their mind, to change their vote are two things. Their own
00:15:25.620 bank account, right? I call it touch the stove syndrome. They have to be physically impacted
00:15:30.860 and hurt for that to happen. Or two, someone they love or know is compromised. And this is where I
00:15:39.740 make the link to addiction. So many of the people who've been successful in the recovery didn't do
00:15:44.760 it for themselves. They did it for someone else. And that's what I would plead to a liberal voter
00:15:50.000 right now or a blind trust in mark carney show me the results show me show me one thing that
00:16:00.800 has gotten better since he was elected this food banks report report is it's all you need to know
00:16:08.800 yeah i mean 11 years you had 4 000 interventions from conservatives telling you so you don't listen
00:16:17.040 you don't listen and you don't care as a liberal you do what you want best and it has proven over
00:16:25.440 and over and over again to make everything worse a government should make life better not worse
00:16:32.140 and they are not doing that and they do not deserve your vote and if you care about your
00:16:37.740 children and your grandchildren and your great-grandchildren you need to stop buying
00:16:42.780 what they are selling sounds like canadians are addicted to liberalism or liberals you know like
00:16:48.800 like they might be to heroin or or meth i mean it sounds extreme mark but i think
00:16:56.520 it's like the worse they are the more likely they are to get away with whatever
00:17:02.280 they're doing you know whether it's corruption whether it's a hypnosis on it you know whether
00:17:08.700 it's their terrible uh bail policies letting people right back on the street like no matter
00:17:14.780 how bad they are it just seems like they get a get out of jail free card themselves last word to you
00:17:20.700 yes and it's almost like a hypnosis but insult insulting them doesn't work either you know like 1.00
00:17:29.920 going out and saying you're stupid you're an idiot you get what you deserve that's not gonna change 1.00
00:17:35.520 people's minds right what's going to change their mind is do you not care about your kids 1.00
00:17:42.440 no yeah well i guess keep at it good luck to you it's just uh it's not an easy listen i pulled up
00:17:52.220 the video from two years ago off of liberalism is not an easy thing to do and so maybe addiction
00:17:58.600 counseling is what they need i don't know maybe you can be addicted to a party or an attitude
00:18:04.440 dude. Who knows? How do people find you online? Well, you can subscribe to our Household Matters
