00:00:00.000 Well, the latest salvo in the cross-border trade war could hammer Canadian producers of beer,
00:00:11.920 wine, and other alcoholic beverages. This follows the Carney government's retaliatory tariffs
00:00:17.400 on $27.6 billion worth of U.S. products. President Trump responded by signing an executive order
00:00:26.340 banning imports of Canadian motorbikes and a slew of other products. Producers in certain sectors
00:00:33.880 will lose access to the U.S. market. Starting September 29th, Ontario and B.C. wine producers,
00:00:39.860 as well as motorcycle manufacturers, face the sharpest hit. Meantime, a new poll suggests
00:00:45.380 Canadian favor a hardline approach on trade with the United States, but have a low threshold when
00:00:52.020 it comes to paying the economic price, like higher inflation. Let's bring in our guest today,
00:00:58.660 Michelle Ferreri, who's a former Conservative Member of Parliament and a commentator online.
00:01:03.380 Welcome, Michelle. Hi, Mark. How are you doing? I'm great. But I'm thinking, you know, if it comes
00:01:09.540 down to who runs out of trade bullets first, I don't like our chances. What do you think?
00:01:14.920 Yeah, I think you're exactly right. And I mean, that poll, that's really something,
00:01:19.440 the one that you just referred to it's like me going and being like I absolutely want the designer
00:01:24.360 purse but I don't want to pay for it you know and it's uh it's really telling of of Canadians like
00:01:31.220 so when I read it 75 percent of Canadians surveyed favor holding firm in the trade dispute even if
00:01:37.900 economic costs last longer yet approximately 68 percent find increased household job loss risk
00:01:44.860 unacceptable as part of canada's response to ufs tariffs like so what are we doing
00:01:51.120 like well because the conversation at the end of this mark is jobs yeah i mean it seems to me that
00:01:59.720 a lot of people don't mind stepping into the ring with say mike tyson at his prime but they don't
00:02:06.340 want to get hit by mike tyson at his prime well i believe it was mike tyson who had the very famous
00:02:12.400 saying everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face right and i mean the bravado of
00:02:18.000 standing up to the guy that people don't like is all fine and well until you get punched in the
00:02:23.200 face and i think i think the big thing i would say to people mark is we need to actually stop
00:02:28.320 talking about trump and we really need to start talking about the impacts on canada and canadian
00:02:34.880 jobs so i did just a little bit of research right just a quick kind of google stuff and so
00:02:40.480 a quick search shows that at least 200 000 canadian jobs are connected to the production
00:02:47.600 distribution and sale of alcohol so that's your farmers your producers transportation retail
00:02:52.320 restaurants and tourism right and so we've already lost 40 600 manufacturing jobs in 2025 due to
00:03:00.960 tariffs 25 27 500 payroll jobs lost in the second quarter of 2025 and then in august we lost 41
00:03:08.560 thousand and seven hundred jobs so if at the end of the day mark carney is going to go on a polished
00:03:16.160 video pre-produced video not recall parliament when he said we're in war and tell people they
00:03:22.880 need to be ready to make sacrifices and it's going to cost but won't tell anybody what the cost is
00:03:29.200 how is that fair to the people that put him in there yeah well that's a good question but it
00:03:36.000 But it takes me back to the whole issue around booze on the store shelves.
00:03:42.120 And it also has me thinking that Trump had this move planned way ahead of time, you know,
00:03:47.700 if something were to happen to the latest trade offer, which is Canada pulling out.
00:03:52.080 But we saw what happened.
00:03:53.460 And afterwards, one of the things that came out as a possibility for why the trade deal
00:03:58.720 fell apart is that Doug Ford refused to go along with any tariffs on Canadian-built autos
00:04:04.960 or assembled autos and refused to put the booze back on the shelf, the U.S. booze back on the
00:04:11.360 shelves. And so here we are now as if this is a big shock, right? I mean, if we ban U.S. booze
00:04:20.080 off the shelves in Ontario and other provinces, then you know that they could do the same at any
00:04:25.880 time. And now Trump is doing it. So this should really not come as a big shock to anybody in
00:04:31.480 coordination. And the price that we're going to end up paying is huge. I mean, because we don't
00:04:37.700 have enough people, we don't have a big enough market in Canada to, you know, offset the loss
00:04:44.340 of our U.S. markets. And so what do we do next? I guess that's the next question. I mean, if you
00:04:51.140 were prime minister, what's your next move? Well, I think number one, Mark, you've just
00:04:58.020 laid out a bunch of facts and clearly Canadians aren't interested in listening to facts they're
00:05:02.440 they're buying into the emotional piece of this which is like let's fight let's fight till till
00:05:09.440 we get punched in the face and and I think you know there's this kind of saying of like touch
00:05:14.160 the stove aspect of it right and it's like like you literally just said yeah I'm gonna I'm gonna
00:05:19.660 stand up to this I'm gonna do all of these things but then when you're shown the consequences the
00:05:24.420 human consequences of this you're not buying into it so you know there has to be a bit of
00:05:29.400 accountability on the on the Canadian people too to say listen we actually need to know what we
00:05:35.020 walked away from we need to know what's on the line here like Mark Carney went out and did a
00:05:39.660 polished pre-produced video no exchange with reporters no questions and literally just told
00:05:47.080 Canadians this very like he's very slick like that was a very slick video he sounds calm he
00:05:54.000 sounds confident. He's going to get, you know, this Mr. Rogers approach, but there's no
00:05:59.380 accountability. And if we can't recall parliament in a time when he is calling it a war, what is
00:06:05.400 the point of parliament? And if your job is to ensure that we have prosperity and jobs and
00:06:11.540 opportunity, and all we're seeing is a loss of those jobs, it is still easier for provinces
00:06:18.040 to sell booze to the United States than it is across this country.
00:06:23.000 Remember a prime minister who said,
00:06:24.720 oh, we're going to remove interprovincial trade barriers
00:06:26.980 at speeds never seen before?
00:06:28.820 Where is that?
00:06:30.600 Where is that?
00:06:31.480 And so, you know, we have people like Mark Warner,
00:06:34.320 who's one of Canada's top trade lawyers,
00:06:36.920 who lays this out very clearly.
00:06:38.820 There's a wonderful interview, if you haven't seen it.
00:06:41.640 It's about a seven and a half minute interview.
00:06:44.100 and he clearly lays out that this is a political win and an economic destruction and so so we as a
00:06:54.320 people you know like i there's there's it's it's a very effective tactic mark because the joe blow
00:07:00.940 public is in survival mode they're living like i did this kind of my own little survey this morning
00:07:06.840 because i got thinking about all of this and i was like how many people know what equalization
00:07:11.820 payments are you know so i sent this text to like four four of my friends and they're like
00:07:20.440 like you mean to pay my gas bill and i said no like do you know how canada is set up in terms
00:07:27.840 of what equalization equalization payments are and canada has become very comfortable
00:07:34.260 with being a subsidized country and just oh you know and and and this is how the liberals play
00:07:41.640 they, oh, we're giving you a grocery rebate. But what Canadians don't understand is that that is
00:07:45.780 their own money. And if you do not develop the resources to pay for that money, you just get
00:07:50.700 taxed harder. And that's why you're paying over 47% of taxes and getting worse health care,
00:07:56.580 worse services, worse everything. Because there's nothing to offset that. This is
00:08:01.860 this is household budget management 101, right? You need the job to get the money to pay for the
00:08:07.680 bills and then you don't spend more than you make. It's not rocket science. And yet we have a prime
00:08:13.160 minister who says nice words, has a fancy resume, has a reputation in the UK of being the unreliable
00:08:21.060 boyfriend. He's proven that to us multiple times. But people are so entrenched in the emotional
00:08:27.360 factor of Donald Trump, they are not paying attention to their own domestic issues of what
00:08:31.620 has been happening for the last 11 years that has led to the decline of our country. I said,
00:08:36.620 you know we need to get into a space mark where it's like can we just stop making things worse
00:08:41.820 like that's the new bar right like let's just stop making things worse and the fact that we don't
00:08:47.500 have a trade agreement is is extremely dire to our country and to our people and to jobs like
00:08:56.140 you know people threw out numbers like billions right you were saying this about alcohols like
00:08:59.500 billions that that doesn't register to people but what does register is john your neighbor
00:09:06.460 who lost their job who can't afford to pay for his mortgage or feed his family anymore
00:09:14.300 bad policy has real human consequences and when you put politics before economics which we see
00:09:20.940 is happening with mark carney repeatedly guess who loses you the taxpayer sure i mean
00:09:29.340 I mean, we've had it so good for so long that we don't know what those consequences really look like.
00:09:34.480 I mean, there's been certain times, you know, you go back to the 80s, for instance, in Alberta,
00:09:39.920 you've had various ups and downs that have cost people their homes and, you know, massive layoffs.
00:09:47.640 But I mean, who remembers the Depression unless you're real old?
00:09:51.660 Yeah.
00:09:52.400 We don't know what that looks like.
00:09:55.300 And so we've had the benefits of this very favorable relationship, trade relationship with the United States, with this passive market just to the south of us, you know, favorable terms.
00:10:05.840 We can sell to this huge market. And this has been going on forever, as long as people can remember it.
00:10:11.740 So it's almost like we don't quite understand how good we've had it until that disappears.
00:10:18.520 And how do people respond? Well, they get indignant and they shake their fist and they blame Trump,
00:10:23.720 because that's really what the media is telling us, right?
00:10:26.160 It's all Trump's fault.
00:10:27.480 Don't blame Mark Carney.
00:10:28.460 Don't blame the liberals who've been in power for 11 years.
00:10:31.220 Sure, they could have done a lot in that time,
00:10:34.200 you know, like build out our pipeline infrastructure.
00:10:37.820 For instance, we could be selling all sorts of energy products
00:10:41.320 to the Europeans, which we're not doing,
00:10:43.120 and a lot more to the Asian countries that we're not doing.
00:10:46.820 We would be in a lot better shape right now
00:10:48.820 if we hadn't decided to go down the route of constricting
00:10:52.400 the one resource that everybody in the world wants
00:10:55.660 and is happy to pay cold, hard cash for.
00:10:58.360 So we put ourselves in that situation.
00:11:01.420 And as far as the trade deal goes,
00:11:03.820 you know, if our own government,
00:11:05.860 I mean, to your point,
00:11:07.280 won't tell us the terms of the agreement,
00:11:10.180 won't show it to us,
00:11:10.880 then I hope the Americans
00:11:11.760 release a transcript of it.
00:11:14.300 I mean, now there may be some agreement in place
00:11:16.360 where we won't make it public
00:11:17.540 unless we both agree.
00:11:18.840 But that's not what happened
00:11:20.280 with the bridge deal, if you recall.
00:11:22.400 because somebody leaked it to Bloomberg who ran it.
00:11:26.480 And it was only then we discovered that what our prime minister was telling us
00:11:29.980 were the terms of that agreement were completely wrong.
00:11:32.840 In other words, we were getting we're being fed a big fat lie
00:11:36.880 about the favorable terms that we were going to get in terms of a revenue share on tolls
00:11:42.520 that, you know, the debt was going to be paid.
00:11:44.880 The debt on the bridge was going to be paid.
00:11:46.220 The fact that billions of dollars was spent by Canadian taxpayers to build this thing.
00:11:50.800 and that debt is going to be paid before there's any kind of revenue share.
00:11:54.940 That's what we were told.
00:11:56.020 That's what many people believed.
00:11:57.600 But that wasn't the truth.
00:11:59.400 We only found out the facts when it was leaked to Bloomberg.
00:12:04.280 So I would suggest maybe the Americans will do the same thing again
00:12:08.320 and find it within themselves to leak the terms of this deal
00:12:12.600 because our own government seems adamant about not sharing it with us.
00:12:16.420 And unfortunately, as you well know, once a politician lies to us,
00:12:20.260 it was hard to trust him a second time and so we were fed i don't know lots of people seem to be
00:12:26.220 trusting mark carney multiple times that is true you know and i think it's it's bananas like i i
00:12:33.420 i think what i what i noticed more than anything is like so that he's literally used the word war
00:12:41.040 right he's literally mark carney said we are in a war and yet he hasn't recalled parliament he's
00:12:47.380 telling people that he that they should be traveling only in Canada yet he went to Italy
00:12:52.220 it's rules for thee but not for me this is the guy who was the top advisor to Justin Trudeau
00:12:58.180 so everything he wasn't just sitting by the sidelines he was an architect as was Dominic
00:13:03.280 Barton the man that he's just appointed to invest Canada and the average voter doesn't know or care
00:13:09.700 about who Dominic Barton is but they need to because it's a it's a reflection of the values
00:13:14.500 and intentions and judgment of our prime minister like for those who don't know like dominic barton
00:13:19.940 this guy was the head of mckenzie which was involved in over 200 million dollars of contracts
00:13:27.220 awarded to a company that the auditor general found violated ethics procurement uh violations
00:13:33.540 right they didn't even finish the work that they were tasked to do but they got rich so you know
00:13:39.460 and then we're seeing that in the alto boondoggle marks like so it went from being 90 billion now
00:13:44.260 it's 150 billion a track hasn't even been laid but three billion dollars has went to bonuses of
00:13:49.380 people who are being hired that are liberal insiders so the same liberal insiders keep
00:13:53.780 getting rich and just to go back to dominic barton this is also the guy who was the global managing
00:13:58.740 partner at uh mckinsey when purdue pharma hired them to turbo charge the opioid crisis of the
00:14:05.380 sale of oxycontin they were the only consulting firm criminally tasked with paying 650 us million
00:14:12.740 dollars and this so these are the people he's surrounding him with he's the same guy that was
00:14:17.480 the ambassador to China who sat on committee and would not acknowledge that the Uyghurs were a
00:14:22.300 genocide the Uyghurs are a group of people in China that are uh enslaved labor to make the EV
00:14:27.540 mandate like EV cars that Mark Carney wants you to buy now we find out that Beijing has released
00:14:33.920 that Canada is going to engage in a military with them but Ottawa hasn't told us but he won't recall
00:14:38.960 parliament he does a polished video where he barks at you and you don't get to ask any questions
00:14:44.080 that's not democracy I have multiple liberal MPs telling me we don't like this guy it's almost like
00:14:51.560 it's upside down right the the media has vilified Pierre Polyev as the bad guy I don't even know why
00:14:56.940 we're talking about Pierre when he's not the guy in charge of this country and they've made uh Mark
00:15:02.180 Carney be the good guy when it's exact opposite in real life so it's like it's like we're in an
00:15:07.540 episode of Black Mirror, right? Like up is down and down is up. And until we start to really look
00:15:15.220 in our own backyard of what's happening and what we are allowing, I don't know how you get out of
00:15:20.620 this mess. So Canadians need to ask some really hard questions. So they need to ask themselves,
00:15:26.120 am I more comfortable with China as a partner than U.S.? Am I more comfortable with globalism
00:15:31.660 than nationalism and sovereignty? Because Mark Carney is a self-proclaimed globalist. How do
00:15:36.800 be a self-proclaimed globalist which is the exact opposite to being a sovereign nation so these are
00:15:43.280 questions you have to ask yourself in order to get to the answer absolutely now did i hear you say
00:15:49.840 that liberal mps are telling you they don't like yes yes and liberal voters mps are pulling you
00:15:56.080 aside and say you know what michelle this guy carney uh my boss basically essentially the
00:16:02.960 the prime minister he's not listen he's shown you who he is mark like this isn't i'm not telling
00:16:08.560 anything publicly that people don't know we've seen him in caught in a hot mic where he says
00:16:12.960 mps are only good for votes we saw him on the first day of parliament where he dismissed melanie
00:16:17.360 jolie with a swat of a hand he barks at reporters when he's questioned like if you really want to
00:16:23.600 have some accountability in this country you would put mark carney side by side with
00:16:29.280 other opposition leaders and have just uh well-versed well-prepared journalists journalists
00:16:35.760 true journalists asking questions no prompter no nice fancy speech writer like actually see
00:16:42.560 what this guy knows and what he's willing to tell you because i can he's shown you time and time
00:16:48.400 again who he is he doesn't even like he doesn't like listening to people he likes telling you
00:16:53.200 what to do and how to do it which is which is what they do he's the smartest guy in any room
00:16:58.560 he walks into right so what he thinks or what i think but it's interesting so multiple liberal
00:17:05.200 mps have told you that that they that they don't like their leader i mean that's more than one so
00:17:13.760 yes i guess that's multiple yeah but it is great that you i'm glad that you raised the issue about
00:17:20.240 china because i mean here you know building a security agreement military agreement china
00:17:25.280 yeah the country that carney himself referred to as canada's biggest threat right the country
00:17:31.120 that interfered with our elections the country that interfered with the selection of candidates
00:17:36.560 spied who spied for china this is the country that we're supposed to partner with
00:17:41.520 yeah this is absolutely outrageous i mean yeah and i and again i really do yeah and i think
00:17:49.040 there's a real onus on on the information that people have access to i mean i don't know how
00:17:54.400 many people are watching lioness but i really recommend people watch that show it's really
00:17:58.400 brilliant in terms of laying out a lot of what's happening in the world and this information bombing
00:18:03.360 online and then your algorithm only showing you like sort of confirmation bias so again i really
00:18:08.960 challenge people to follow you know three to four accounts where they don't agree with those people
00:18:13.040 try to get different pieces of information but the reality is is like people don't know like i
00:18:18.400 I read a lot of the comments and I see comments like one person wrote, I'd rather have a trade
00:18:25.540 agreement with North Korea than the United States. These are the people. And so I'm like,
00:18:30.660 is this a bot? You have to look for that too, because there's bots. No, this is not a bot.
00:18:34.980 And then I look down and it's like, if I had to pick between dealing with the United States and
00:18:39.260 China, I'll pick China. And I'm like, okay, then again, we as a people have to, do you know what
00:18:47.660 that means and you know i actually i don't think the majority of the population do know what that
00:18:54.240 means because if i was to take joe blow public mark and say here's a six dollar shirt made in
00:19:01.800 china from shen or sheen or whatever you call it or timu and here's a local canadian made shirt but
00:19:08.820 it's you know 65 well when you only have 12 in the bank and you need a shirt what are you going
00:19:17.940 to do like they it's like they put you in this position and then you have no choice because
00:19:24.780 you're vulnerable but to take what's put in front of you it's it's pretty diabolical when you look
00:19:31.620 at it i think you know we need more canadians to speak with the chinese diaspora in canada
00:19:38.220 people who left you know go listen to joe tay you want to yeah if i was to give people an account
00:19:45.740 to follow joe tay this is a guy that ran under the conservative leadership the liberals allowed
00:19:50.540 a bounty to be put on this guy yeah mark carney allowed that yeah i would love that andy lee is
00:19:57.900 another one who's doing incredible work sam cooper these are people that are really telling you the
00:20:03.500 truth and the facts about what you're dealing with and you know it's if you know you know but
00:20:10.940 it's it's getting people to see right how do people find your great videos online uh well
00:20:18.140 they can watch you i guess uh uh and also i uh instagram i'm michelle ferrari canada my website's
00:20:25.260 michelleferrari.com i'm on x but i think it's like m perere p i don't know it was some like
00:20:31.100 gross handle that I have but I think if you search Michelle Ferrari you should find it
00:20:35.100 but it's Ferrari not Ferrari because if you search Michelle Ferrari you'll find a very
00:20:39.060 different woman and I'm not her. You're not part of the Ferrari
00:20:43.000 family, gotcha. No, that's a different adult industry that I'm
00:20:47.140 not part of. One vowel difference and you know. Thank you so much for coming to the show
