Summary
What do you do when the institutions in your society seem to have adopted a completely different philosophy than the one you believe your society is built on? Is there a way to reclaim our freedoms in such a context? In this episode, I sit down with philosopher and author Robert Noell to discuss this question.

So, you know, I wanted to go back to progressivism, something that we touched upon
00:00:04.380
earlier in our conversation. And it sounds as if progressivism in the service of collectivism has
00:00:11.900
taken hold in our legal system, essentially working as a handmaiden of the technocratic state.
00:00:20.340
And you've argued this in several of your recent writings. The question really is, you know, as
00:00:27.200
believers in individual liberty and originalists, you know, as in interpreting the Constitution as it
00:00:34.240
was written, how do we reclaim our freedoms in such a context? Yes, you know, this is the question,
00:00:42.200
Rupa. It's the question that we're all asking ourselves. What do you do when the institutions
00:00:47.260
in your society seem to have adopted a completely different philosophy than the one that you believe
00:00:51.500
your society is built on? Yeah. And if I had an easy answer to that, I'd be shouting it from the
00:00:57.400
rooftops. And I really don't. But first, I mean, the first reality is that it's really got to come
00:01:07.180
from the people. And part of the problem during these past two years is, I mean, in addition to
00:01:15.260
the problem that the technocrats have taken over, in addition to the problem that the courts don't
00:01:19.420
seem to care, in addition to the problem that the public health officials have been given more power
00:01:23.860
than they deserve, and so on, the real problem is that a whole bunch of people, a very large portion
00:01:31.060
of the population seem to be fine with it, and wanted more of it, and complain when the restrictions
00:01:37.880
are taken off. I mean, this is the central problem. And so there's a lot of educating to do,
00:01:45.260
a lot of talking to do, a lot of trying to get people out of the trance that they seem to be in.
00:01:51.100
And I'm not sure that that very much will happen before that happens, because many other institutions
00:01:59.660
are built upon and think that they're following public opinion, public sentiment, as opposed to
00:02:07.980
pushing against it. And until they do have to push against it, I'm not sure that they will feel compelled
