Transcript

00:00:00.000 Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has lost control of the country.
00:00:03.000 Invoking the Emergency Act confirms this.
00:00:05.440 I'm Candace Malcolm and this is The Candace Malcolm Show.
00:00:12.000 Everyone, thank you so much for tuning into the podcast.
00:00:14.400 So yesterday afternoon at 4.30, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau emerged from his cave wherever
00:00:19.680 he's been hiding out.
00:00:20.780 He had been completely absent for most of the weekend as the third weekend of protests
00:00:25.320 continued.
00:00:25.800 He emerged and he let us know that he was in fact, as reported by the CBC, invoking
00:00:30.980 the Emergency Act.
00:00:31.980 This is the first time this act has ever been invoked.
00:00:34.020 It is a follow-up of the War Measures Act, which was used by his father during the FLQ
00:00:38.540 crisis in the 1970s.
00:00:40.360 Prior to that, the only time this has ever been invoked is during wartime, during World
00:00:44.100 War I and World War II.
00:00:45.680 So my colleagues at Nitro North, we did a live reaction show yesterday.
00:00:49.180 I was joined by journalists Andrew Lawton and Harley Sims and we broke down exactly what's
00:00:53.400 happening and gave our live reaction.
00:00:54.860 So go check out that video because it has a lot of great information in it.
00:00:59.040 So let me just reiterate this point.
00:01:01.080 Justin Trudeau has lost control of the country.
00:01:04.180 That's not an opinion.
00:01:05.500 That is a fact.
00:01:06.780 Declaring a national emergency, invoking the Emergency Act means by definition that Justin
00:01:11.760 Trudeau has lost control.
00:01:13.500 Let me read from the act.
00:01:14.700 So here it is.
00:01:15.260 It says, for the purpose of this act, a national emergency is an urgent and critical situation
00:01:19.900 of a temporary nature that A, seriously endangers the lives, health or safety of Canadians and
00:01:25.680 is of such proportions or nature as to exceed the capacity or authority of a province to deal
00:01:31.520 with, or it seriously threatens the ability of the government of Canada to preserve the sovereignty,
00:01:37.480 security and territorial integrity of Canada.
00:01:40.340 And that cannot be effectively dealt with under any other law of Canada.
00:01:44.700 So does Canada right now meet that definition?
00:01:48.340 Is the trucker convoy seriously endangering the live health and safety of Canadians to the
00:01:53.700 proportion that exceeds the capacity of our laws to deal with?
00:01:57.100 Does the convoy threaten the ability of the government of Canada to preserve the sovereignty,
00:02:01.840 security and territorial integrity of Canada?
00:02:04.500 Well, by no means is that the case.
00:02:07.720 This is not a terrorist insurrection.
00:02:09.120 It's not a siege or an illegal occupation, no matter what the CBC tells you.
00:02:13.900 This, by contrast, is a block party.
00:02:17.100 It is a family block party in Ottawa with music, street food, bouncy castles and street hockey.
00:02:23.420 This is what it looks like.
00:02:25.640 Irregardless of what faith you're from, what caste, creed, religion, doesn't matter.
00:02:30.180 It's about the community kitchen.
00:02:32.880 We all eat as one and humanity's equal.
00:02:35.880 So the SEVA concept, helping the community is what we're practicing here today.
00:02:41.200 We're here alongside the truckers in the fight for freedom.
00:02:44.280 And we're doing our part from the sick faith.
00:02:47.200 And we welcome everyone to come and have some samosas, some tea and some French fries.
00:02:53.040 These cheerful, patriotic, fun-loving Canadians do not pose a threat to national security.
00:02:58.880 So why on earth is Justin Trudeau doing this?
00:03:02.180 Is it because he does not have the law enforcement tools at his disposal to deal with the peaceful protesters and the odd act of civil disobedience?
00:03:09.040 Well, let's examine those facts.
00:03:11.000 The truckers have been in Ottawa for just over two weeks.
00:03:13.940 They create a nuisance with their horns and with their trucks.
00:03:16.800 And so in response, Ottawa residents went to court and a court ordered the truckers to stop honking their horns.
00:03:22.920 The truckers complied, no problem, they stopped.
00:03:25.200 Many of the truckers then left Ottawa somehow to the Ambassador Bridge that connects Windsor, Ontario with Detroit, Michigan.
00:03:31.160 This is an incredibly important trade route.
00:03:33.260 It connects the auto industry.
00:03:35.200 This one bridge represents about 25% of all Canada-U.S. trade.
00:03:39.300 Well, the truckers intermittently blocked the bridge.
00:03:42.020 And as you can see, in real time, the Americans downplayed it.
00:03:45.240 Here is U.S. President Joe Biden's press secretary, Jen Psaki, downplaying the impact of the protest.
00:03:51.480 She says it's causing sporadic congestion and blockades and causing minor disruptions.
00:03:57.120 Here's what that looked like.
00:03:58.320 Well, let me first start by saying I know there's been some suggestion, not by reporters necessarily at all, but that this congestion is related to the vaccine requirements.
00:04:07.780 It's not.
00:04:08.480 I mean, I'm saying I'm going to get to the protests.
00:04:10.760 But the protests going on across Canada, which have spread to a bridge, are leading to sporadic congestion and blockages.
00:04:17.720 So that was last Tuesday, February 8th.
00:04:20.280 And then on Friday, February 11th at 7 p.m., there was another court injunction in Windsor, this time to clear the bridge completely.
00:04:27.980 So according to a city news reporter who was there on the ground, this initially led to a bigger protest.
00:04:34.460 So he writes this.
00:04:35.500 The court-ordered injunction at the Ambassador Bridge has kicked in, and there's more protesters there now than at any point this week.
00:04:41.380 They're streaming in by the dozens.
00:04:42.720 It's hard to see the police stepping in at this hour with so many people here celebrating and carrying on.
00:04:48.000 So again, these people are celebrating.
00:04:49.640 These people are jovial and happy and patriotic and proud.
00:04:53.280 They're not a menace.
00:04:54.200 They're not a threat.
00:04:55.740 They're not posing a threat to Canada's national security.
00:04:58.660 Another reporter, Sean O'Shea from Global News, was on the scene as well.
00:05:01.920 He tweeted a long thread complaining that the police weren't breaking up the protests fast enough or with enough force.
00:05:08.740 So he writes this.
00:05:38.740 So here is a clip of the force that they used in order to clear the bridge.
00:05:42.620 Off to the property, please.
00:05:44.780 Off the property.
00:05:46.800 Off to the property.
00:05:48.020 Off to the property.
00:06:18.000 Off to the property.
00:06:18.840 It took a little bit more than 24 hours, but the bridge was cleared.
00:06:22.600 Crisis averted.
00:06:23.700 Blockade removed.
00:06:24.800 A few arrests.
00:06:25.840 No violence.
00:06:26.600 No injuries.
00:06:27.560 That is a policing success.
00:06:30.060 Our economy, an important trade route, and our border integrity remain intact.
00:06:34.320 So why then, less than 36 hours later, would Justin Trudeau take such a drastic measure?
00:06:41.160 Why would he use every single tool at his disposal as prime minister of the country to try to quell and squash these protests?
00:06:49.060 Did something else happen?
00:06:50.120 Well, there were a lot more peaceful protests over the weekend.
00:06:53.840 Here's a scene in Ottawa.
00:06:55.200 Now, I want to walk you through this situation.
00:06:57.420 The media disingenuously reported that protesters were moving the barricades around the war memorial so they could desecrate it.
00:07:04.520 Here are some tweets saying exactly that.
00:07:06.900 Abigail Brimham from Global News.
00:07:08.320 She writes, police set up barricades around the war memorial after the first weekend of the convoy protests after incidents of people dancing and partying on the monument.
00:07:17.120 Next, Mackenzie Gray from CTV wrote, protesters have ripped down the barriers set up at the war memorial.
00:07:24.220 They were up because people were using the war memorial as a toilet and jumping on the tomb of the unknown soldier.
00:07:30.260 That's completely untrue.
00:07:31.480 But regardless, Gord Miller jumped in from TSN.
00:07:34.080 He wrote this, I've been honored to attend several Remembrance Day ceremonies at the National War Memorial in Ottawa, including the most recent one last November.
00:07:42.180 To see this solemn place desecrated like this leaves me sad and angry beyond words.
00:07:47.760 Next, Marrakeem Walsh from the Global Mail wrote, in Ottawa on Saturday, police stood by and watched as dozens of demonstrators tore down the fence around the National War Memorial before gathering around the monument dedicated to Canada's war dead.
00:08:01.060 So, what did this horrible mob do?
00:08:04.820 Why did they tear down the barricades?
00:08:06.900 What kind of despicable desecration did they do next?
00:08:10.380 What was it that left TSN's Gord Miller sad and angry beyond words?
00:08:15.640 Okay, well, it turns out the people who removed the barriers were a group of veterans that wanted to pay their respect to Canada's war dead and to pray.
00:08:25.240 Here is what they actually did.
00:08:27.020 Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be the name, by the kingdom come, by the kingdom come, by the kingdom come, on earth as it is in heaven.
00:08:37.000 God, keep our land glorious and free.
00:08:44.780 There were no corrections from the media.
00:09:08.340 They didn't bother to tell you what happened next.
00:09:10.400 Look, there were plenty of people having a good time, partying, dancing, playing music.
00:09:15.420 You and I may have seen this as a joyous act of patriotism, fun-loving Canadians claiming what is rightfully theirs, their freedom.
00:09:22.880 They want their freedoms back.
00:09:24.540 And what better way to take them back than to exercise them freely, defiantly, right in front of Parliament, the home of our democracy.
00:09:32.980 You and I may see that as a beautiful thing.
00:09:35.300 But you and I see things differently than the Ottawa establishment.
00:09:38.060 They see it as sedition.
00:09:40.540 Yes, sedition.
00:09:41.940 That is what the former governor of the Bank of Canada, Mark Carney, the Liberal Party's current it boy, Mark Carney, that is what he called it in the pages of the Globe and Mail.
00:09:51.220 Likewise, Bob Fyfe, who is the Ottawa bureau chief for the Globe and Mail, he called it anarchy.
00:09:56.620 Here's his tweet showing a stage with people partying.
00:09:59.520 Anarchy reigns in downtown Ottawa in front of our Parliament.
00:10:03.620 Horrifying, horrifying.
00:10:05.460 Arrest them, demanded Althea Raj on Twitter.
00:10:08.100 Althea Raj with the CBC and of the Toronto Star.
00:10:12.120 See, the media continued to exaggerate what was happening in Ottawa and demand that the police round these people up and arrest them.
00:10:19.640 These hypocrites suddenly claimed to care about small businesses being able to operate after spending two years telling us that we must remain under lockdown and that we must shut down small businesses all for the good of public health.
00:10:32.380 After spending two weeks screaming and yelling about illegal blockades and demanding that truckers be arrested for blocking roads, well, suddenly the same group of Trudeau cheerleaders were suddenly applauding a blockade.
00:10:44.700 Yes, applauding a different blockade.
00:10:46.340 A group of government employees, some waving their union's CUPE flag, descended from their million dollar home in the neighborhood of the Glebe, an upscale Ottawa area comprised almost entirely of diplomats and bureaucrats.
00:10:57.760 Well, they blocked the street to block the truckers.
00:11:00.000 So this was a righteous blockade and the Ottawa establishment cheered them on.
00:11:05.000 Here's Bruce Anderson, a liberal pollster and former CBC talking head.
00:11:08.900 He wrote, one victory at a time, showing footage of this blockade.
00:11:13.400 There were many more journalists cheering it on.
00:11:15.860 Interestingly, this counter protest rally featured evil flags like that of the former USSR regime responsible for the deaths of tens of millions of people.
00:11:24.780 There were hateful signs as well, like this one, where a radicalized Trudeau supporter wrote, kill the anti-vax.
00:11:32.940 That's a bit extreme, don't you think?
00:11:34.660 Well, if we've learned anything about how the legacy media cover large protests, it is that they always judge the entire group by the craziest people who show up.
00:11:44.500 So if one guy has a hammer and sickle flag, the logic goes, that means that everyone in the group supports murderous communism.
00:11:52.740 If one person in the group has a sign calling for violence and calling for murder, that means that the entire group condones political violence and genocide.
00:12:01.200 That's how it works, right?
00:12:02.260 That's the standard.
00:12:03.400 Well, of course not.
00:12:04.460 That's only the standard for people that journalists hate.
00:12:07.640 People like you and me and the truckers.
00:12:09.940 The pro-Trudeau counter-protesters are part of the Ottawa establishment.
00:12:14.020 They're mostly bureaucrats.
00:12:15.320 They believe in Trudeau's science, and you can tell because they're all wearing masks, even though they're outside, and even though most people now have natural immunity from Omicron.
00:12:24.120 So, of course, they get away with saying the craziest things, and the media completely give them a pass.
00:12:29.100 But the protests are no longer just in Ottawa.
00:12:31.680 They have spread across the country.
00:12:33.760 Here's a scene in beautiful British Columbia, outside the provincial parliament building.
00:12:38.200 Brian Peckford, the former premier of Newfoundland and the last living signer of Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms, joined the Freedom Convoy and gave an incredibly powerful speech about what it means to be Canadians and what our Charter of Rights actually means.
00:12:52.120 Here is what that looked like.
00:12:53.100 We're not going to allow this nation on the northern part of North America to go down the drain because we have people who've gotten hungry for power and have discarded the individual freedoms that you and I own.
00:13:08.940 They are ours.
00:13:15.500 There's none, two of us the same.
00:13:17.400 That's why individual rights and freedoms are so important, right?
00:13:20.800 Because it's you as a person.
00:13:23.300 You as an individual.
00:13:24.560 Not you as a family.
00:13:25.860 Not you as a group.
00:13:27.460 Okay?
00:13:27.880 Not you as part of some other organization.
00:13:30.420 Not you as part of the province.
00:13:32.260 It's you as an individual Canadian.
00:13:35.100 Possess these rights.
00:13:36.940 That's what's important.
00:13:45.680 He's absolutely right.
00:13:47.500 So these protests continued in cities across the country.
00:13:50.300 They were peaceful.
00:13:51.300 They were positive.
00:13:52.220 They were patriotic.
00:13:53.040 And this time, there were no evil flags.
00:13:55.980 So Trudeau could no longer simply dismiss the entire group as Nazis.
00:14:00.100 So what did Trudeau do?
00:14:01.640 Well, he invoked the Emergencies Act, the most sweeping set of powers available to a prime minister.
00:14:06.380 The act that replaced the War Measures Act.
00:14:08.900 This came just 18 days after he dismissed the movement as a small fringe minority.
00:14:14.440 So why did Justin Trudeau do this?
00:14:15.780 Well, I think there were three reasons.
00:14:17.560 One, to appease the Ottawa establishment and delight his friends in the media.
00:14:22.260 Two, to crack down on decentralized crowdfunding.
00:14:26.080 And three, to compel the police to do his dirty work.
00:14:29.400 Let's go through those three reasons right now.
00:14:30.940 So the first reason, appeasing the Ottawa establishment.
00:14:34.640 The loudest and most deranged critics of the convoy throughout the entire process have been the legacy media journalists in Ottawa, the Parliamentary Press Gallery.
00:14:43.420 Last night, after Trudeau invoked emergency powers for the first time since the FLQ crisis, an actual crisis in the 1970s where domestic terrorist separatists were bombing buildings, kidnapping cabinet ministers, and murdering people.
00:14:56.280 Well, Trudeau invoked it.
00:14:57.880 And how did the media react?
00:14:58.880 What did they do?
00:14:59.780 Well, first, they hosted a Twitter space hosted by the Canadian Association of Journalists called this, I kid you not, the mainstream media versus the trucker convoy.
00:15:09.300 They aptly pitted themselves against the convoy plaintiff's day, in case you had any doubt about what side they were on.
00:15:16.240 I listened to a bit of the panel as much as I could stomach, and the focus wasn't on Justin Trudeau's excessive power grab.
00:15:22.420 It wasn't by the excessive use of force, the abuse of power, the unprecedented nature of using this act.
00:15:28.560 No, they didn't talk about that at all.
00:15:30.160 Instead, they focused on how journalists were the victim, how they had to deal with mean people on the internet, and how some people were starting to question their authority.
00:15:38.980 It was so pathetic.
00:15:40.340 What a farce.
00:15:41.600 On top of their own pity party, many journalists were actively turning into liberal party fact checkers.
00:15:47.820 So the New York Times correctly reported that Trudeau was suspending civil liberties.
00:15:52.760 This is what the New York Times wrote.
00:15:54.420 Declaring a national public order emergency is Trudeau's most aggressive response since the crisis began.
00:15:59.480 The move will allow him to temporarily suspend civil liberties to reopen border crossings and clear the blockade of about 400 trucks in Ottawa.
00:16:08.480 Well, immediately, the establishment journalists called foul.
00:16:11.760 Rosemary Barton angrily tweeted,
00:16:13.940 This is completely false.
00:16:15.560 In no way does this suspend civil liberties.
00:16:17.860 Good grief.
00:16:19.100 Likewise, Gerald Butts writes this.
00:16:20.960 He says,
00:16:21.400 Well, the New York Times dutifully deleted the tweet and issued a correction.
00:16:32.740 They wrote this.
00:16:33.480 Correction.
00:16:34.340 An earlier tweet incorrectly suggested that Trudeau would temporarily suspend civil liberties.
00:16:38.700 We deleted the incorrect tweet.
00:16:40.960 How is it incorrect?
00:16:42.140 I don't understand.
00:16:43.040 Peter McRaffey, who runs a civil liberties think tank over in Calgary, he wrote this.
00:16:47.480 They can close your bank account and seize your assets without a court order.
00:16:52.680 That's literally the definition of suspending civil liberties.
00:16:56.120 How are these people the ones reporting the news?
00:16:58.920 Great question.
00:17:00.040 Peter.
00:17:00.660 Of course, he's right.
00:17:01.540 Peter is right.
00:17:02.340 But the journalists don't want anyone to know, especially Americans, especially readers of the New York Times.
00:17:07.380 They don't want them to know how bad things have gotten in Canada and how much Trudeau is abusing his power.
00:17:12.680 So they lie to protect their man.
00:17:14.700 Here is what the Emergencies Act actually does.
00:17:17.020 This is according to a Globe and Mail summary.
00:17:19.500 Under the law, the federal government will strengthen police powers to impose fines and imprison people,
00:17:24.780 compel tow truck companies to help clear blockades,
00:17:27.600 allow banks to freeze the personal and corporate accounts of individual protesters without a court order,
00:17:33.160 and subject crowdfunding companies to anti-money laundering and terrorist financing rules.
00:17:39.240 And again, in case you had any doubt, here is a clip of Finance Minister Christia Freeland
00:17:43.120 explaining just exactly how they will suspend your civil liberties.
00:17:47.420 Here's that clip.
00:17:48.040 As of today, a bank or other financial service provider will be able to immediately freeze or suspend an account without a court order.
00:18:00.640 We are today serving notice.
00:18:03.260 If your truck is being used in these illegal blockades, your corporate accounts will be frozen.
00:18:13.020 The insurance on your vehicle will be suspended.
00:18:18.020 Send your semi-trailers home.
00:18:20.660 So they just repeat over and over again that what you're doing is illegal.
00:18:24.000 They start calling you terrorists.
00:18:25.640 And soon enough, the laws start to apply to you that way.
00:18:28.220 It's all pretty terrifying.
00:18:29.720 This brings us to the second reason why Trudeau is doing this, to crack down on conservative crowdfunding.
00:18:34.600 You see, just like how the court orders successfully stopped the honking and cleared the Ambassador Bridge,
00:18:40.300 Trudeau already possesses the power to shut down crowdfunding.
00:18:43.540 They did it to GoFundMe, who caved easily to the slightest bit of political pressure and stole $10 million from the truckers.
00:18:50.720 Initially, they said they were going to redirect it to charities of their choosing.
00:18:53.740 Then they decided to just issue refunds.
00:18:56.200 Well, likewise, when an alternative fundraising campaign began under a site called GiveSendGo, an alternative to GoSendMe,
00:19:02.540 they also raised $10 million.
00:19:04.260 And that money was also stolen, this time by an Ontario court.
00:19:08.700 About a million dollars of that money had already been distributed to the truckers.
00:19:12.160 But then it was reported that TD Bank, again using the help of an Ontario judge, froze the bank accounts and stole that money too.
00:19:20.420 So the money isn't even getting through to the truckers.
00:19:23.040 So why would Trudeau need to invoke emergency powers to stop this?
00:19:27.200 Well, because the truckers are one step ahead.
00:19:29.420 They started to look at decentralized cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin as a way to raise money.
00:19:34.840 And the government has no control over this area by design.
00:19:37.440 And the whole purpose of cryptocurrency is that it's decentralized and is not controlled by the government.
00:19:42.280 Well, this was not good enough.
00:19:43.660 So Justin Trudeau and Chrystia Freeland are using the full force of the Canadian government to stop their political opponents from being able to raise funds.
00:19:52.280 This is very scary, unprecedented stuff.
00:19:54.800 Finally, the third reason why Justin Trudeau is doing this to compel others to do his dirty work,
00:19:59.840 to compel them by force to do his dirty work.
00:20:01.780 The police are not arresting people fast enough for the Ottawa journalists and the Ottawa establishment.
00:20:07.360 Journalists have spent weeks now screaming and protesting and complaining on Twitter that the police are not arresting the people that they want arrested.
00:20:15.560 The tow truck companies, likewise, have said that they simply refuse to tow the trucks.
00:20:19.220 Why?
00:20:19.920 Well, because they agree with the truckers.
00:20:21.440 They're out there with the protesters.
00:20:22.760 They're celebrating their part of the movement.
00:20:24.560 They, too, want their freedoms back, as do many police officers.
00:20:28.460 Did you see this clip over the weekend?
00:20:29.860 It triggered many, many Canadian journalists.
00:20:32.600 Many of them were angrily shouting about this and saying that this shows that the police are not doing their job.
00:20:38.100 But to me, all it does is simply show that many police officers don't want to arrest the protesters because they agree with them.
00:20:44.860 Here's that clip.
00:20:45.580 I support you guys 100%.
00:20:46.660 Thank you.
00:20:47.760 That's what we'd like to hear.
00:20:49.100 Awesome.
00:20:49.700 I haven't been to Ottawa.
00:20:50.600 A lot of us are.
00:20:51.620 Yeah.
00:20:51.860 We're nothing but great thanks for our protesters.
00:20:53.840 Yeah, wonderful.
00:20:54.340 Everybody's very polite, very thankful.
00:20:55.540 Yeah.
00:20:56.000 We keep her peaceful.
00:20:57.160 We just want to make sure that everybody's good.
00:20:58.280 Yeah.
00:20:58.540 So we have truckers, some police officers, some members of the Canadian Armed Forces, and the tow truck operators all on the same side.
00:21:16.740 They're all culturally aligned.
00:21:18.260 They don't like Justin Trudeau.
00:21:19.380 They don't agree with heavy-handed emergency measures, and they're showing their own form of civil disobedience by noncompliance.
00:21:26.760 Well, Trudeau is furious about this.
00:21:28.420 He knows the truckers will never support him.
00:21:30.200 He's already smeared them.
00:21:31.540 He's maligned them.
00:21:32.560 He's gone too far, and they will never forgive him.
00:21:35.100 But the problem for Trudeau is that his own side, the Ottawa establishment, is starting to turn on him.
00:21:40.460 Trudeau has been absent.
00:21:41.560 He's been hiding.
00:21:42.160 And whenever he dares to show his face, he looks angry, he looks a little deranged, he looks divisive, he smears his enemies, he makes everything worse.
00:21:50.560 That's why only 16% of Canadians say that they would vote for him right now.
00:21:54.700 And even those who oppose the Freedom Convoy, even the people who support Justin Trudeau and his mandates, they say that Trudeau is the most to blame for the situation getting out of hand.
00:22:04.820 Trudeau is the most to blame.
00:22:06.340 So Trudeau needed to do something.
00:22:08.320 He needed to show some power, show some force.
00:22:10.920 He needed the protests to end.
00:22:12.600 He needed them to end right now.
00:22:14.740 So here he is announcing that he will now compel tow trucks to do his dirty work.
00:22:20.160 One of the issues that we have seen is a challenge in getting tow trucks to actually show up to bring out, to move these large rigs.
00:22:31.120 In Windsor, we relied on generous partnership with the Americans to be able to get tow trucks to move the big trucks.
00:22:44.200 Now, with these measures that we've put in place, there will be an ability to compel, for just compensation, tow truck owners and operators to actually do the jobs for which they have contracts with various orders of government to keep highways and roads clear.
00:23:05.140 Trudeau said that this was his last resort.
00:23:07.600 Interesting, isn't it?
00:23:08.760 Trudeau refused to meet with the truckers.
00:23:10.640 That could have de-escalated the situation.
00:23:12.260 But he refused.
00:23:13.700 He could have voted symbolically to come up with a timeline to drop COVID restrictions, since that's ultimately what the truckers want.
00:23:20.400 It would have shown a willingness to listen, to compromise, and to work across the aisle.
00:23:24.940 The Conservatives introduced a motion asking for just that, and Justin Trudeau voted against it.
00:23:30.540 Here is an Ottawa establishment journalist, David Akin, who is the Bureau Chief over at Global News, and he is making this exact point.
00:23:37.120 He writes this on Twitter.
00:23:38.000 I thought that the Conservative Party of Canada was making a very reasonable proposition to the government, asking it to table a plan before February 28th, explaining how and when federal vaccine mandates would end.
00:23:49.360 Not to end the mandates, just a plan to end them.
00:23:51.840 The Bloc and the Conservatives voted for it.
00:23:54.180 The NDP and the Liberals voted against it.
00:23:56.460 I should note that Liberal MP Joël Lightbound voted with the Conservatives and voted in favor of this motion.
00:24:02.860 While instead, Trudeau voted against it, he refused to budge even an inch.
00:24:08.160 So instead, he says he's willing to wage war against peaceful protesters, against moms and dads, against people barbecuing, kids jumping in bouncy castles, people playing street hockey, and impromptu dance parties on the streets in Ottawa.
00:24:22.040 Trudeau announced two weeks to flatten the protesters.
00:24:24.680 It's a huge gamble because it could lead to even more civil disobedience and even more protests, or even worse, it could lead to violence, to very real violations of human rights and civil liberties here in Canada.
00:24:36.520 Don't expect the legacy media to report the facts or tell you the truth.
00:24:40.040 They're too busy cheering on their man, Justin Trudeau.
00:24:42.820 True North will be there on the ground every step of the way, giving you wall-to-wall coverage to report on this unprecedented abuse of power.
