00:00:00.000 The Kearney government's growing ties with China is raising concerns with our closest neighbor
00:00:10.400 to the south, of course, the United States. A conservative think tank warns of the dangers
00:00:16.860 in a recent research report. Trojan horse identifying threats from closer China-Canada
00:00:24.740 trade. The Canada First Policy Institute says that China is trying to exploit Canada's proximity to
00:00:31.680 the United States, its long-standing trade links to the United States. The report says China can 0.86
00:00:38.540 exploit these factors through closer economic integration with Canada to dump and smuggle its
00:00:46.540 goods on a large scale into the United States, create bottlenecks for U.S. imports of major
00:00:52.940 commodities and expand its state-directed businesses into the U.S. market. It's covered
00:00:59.560 by Matt Mercer at Breitbart. Canada's anti-Trump government tightening ties with China is a choice
00:01:08.020 for economic decline. And our guest today is Matt Mercer, writer, journalist with Breitbart coming
00:01:13.580 to us from Raleigh in the great state of North Carolina. Welcome, sir. I appreciate it. Thank
00:01:18.980 you for having me today. What got you thinking about Canada and why did you decide to write
00:01:24.760 about it for Breitbart? Yeah, so when I joined Breitbart, kind of one of the things I was
00:01:30.280 immediately drawn to are some of the trade tensions and kind of how President Trump has
00:01:35.740 really worked to reshape the American economy. And one of those, of course, are a neighbor to
00:01:40.860 the north in Canada and kind of the decisions that they've made have been really concerning.
00:01:44.800 So as I started doing some initial research, I was kind of given some suggestions and told that, hey, did you know that, you know, the person running that Prime Minister Carney's office was actually an American political operative?
00:01:58.600 I said, wow, I did not know that.
00:02:00.780 And so that led me down this road of discovering these deep ties that Prime Minister Carney has with American Democrats.
00:02:08.680 And kind of everything kind of flowed from there.
00:02:10.280 So I was able to write about that. Really, the story went, I heard it went viral in Canada because it wasn't really covered at the time. And it just kind of takes you one thing to the next. And so at the end of August and September, I covered the G20 Finance Minister's meeting in Asheville here in North Carolina. And you really got to see sort of the trade concerns that I think a lot of individuals have. Of course, China was the only country not to sign on to the communicate from the organization there.
00:02:34.460 And then it just kind of leads you to see, OK, here's really what's happening and more research.
00:02:38.420 And you see that I think the Canadian government is making a really bad decision, trying to lean in closer, especially to China versus working out a deal, which I think everyone wants with the U.S.
00:02:49.560 Yeah, I mean, I don't know how much you know about Maya Johnson.
00:02:52.440 Obviously, she's a Democrat Party operative. 0.94
00:02:54.760 I think her ties are with the Clintons, if I'm not mistaken.
00:02:58.260 but do you think that Mark Carney's actions might actually be directed at damaging the
00:03:04.060 Republicans' chances heading into the midterms? Is that why, is that maybe part of the reason why
00:03:09.640 he walked away from that deal at the 11th hour? I certainly think it's very believable to have
00:03:16.180 done that when you're hiring these American political operatives and when you're tied into
00:03:20.380 John Podesta to hosting Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton at these events. And if you think maybe
00:03:26.320 we could get a better trade deal if you weaken president trump through the midterm elections
00:03:30.960 you know i certainly think that's very concerning from american perspective because that is the
00:03:35.440 definition of foreign interference even within american you know working that high up in the
00:03:39.760 canadian government and so i think certainly i don't think he would like that if you know
00:03:44.160 republicans started working for uh folks in the conservative party when they were when they were
00:03:48.960 head in in an official capacity so a lot of times in campaigns you know political operatives from
00:03:54.640 Some other countries will go work on campaigns.
00:03:56.460 Working in the official government, I think, is a step that's really unprecedented and I think has been concerning for a lot of people, myself included.
00:04:04.560 Obviously, the China links are going to be disturbing.
00:04:07.640 To what degree is that on the radar screen, say, in the White House?
00:04:14.140 Yeah, I think to borrow one of the Gen Z terms, I think President Trump clocked it right away that, hey, China, this is really concerning where you're bringing China closer together, allowing the 49,000 EVs that spontaneously blow up. 0.88
00:04:29.580 And I think for the past decade, every country in Africa and Asia that got involved with China's Belt and Road Initiative has come to regret it, and they've tried to move away from this mass of Chinese exports. 0.67
00:04:41.580 And here you have the Canadian government with Prime Minister Carney running in that direction when everyone else has been running away from it. 0.52
00:04:48.900 I think that's something that is not a smart policy to do, especially when you're antagonizing the U.S.
00:04:54.820 And I think as Treasury Secretary Scott Besson has said on numerous occasions, including with my coverage in Asheville, everyone knows what the problem is. 1.00
00:05:02.620 These Chinese exports will ruin your economy if you let them. 1.00
00:05:06.560 And the question is, are you going to do something about it or not? 1.00
00:05:09.700 And I think, unfortunately, Prime Minister Carney wants to continue encouraging it.
00:05:14.700 Let's be real. Crime is up. Repeat offenders are released on bail. Police responses are slower than ever.
00:05:21.840 And in many places, law-abiding citizens are expected to just hope nothing bad happens.
00:05:27.100 That's not good enough. And that's why I'm very pleased today to be telling you about Berna.
00:05:31.280 And I'm so pleased to have this partnership with Juno News because I actually own one myself.
00:05:35.580 I bought one before we ever had this deal with Berna.
00:05:38.200 So what is Berna? It is a non-lethal self-defense launcher that gives you real protection without
00:05:44.820 carrying a firearm. It looks like a firearm. It kind of feels like a firearm, but it's not. It's
00:05:49.320 non-lethal. So Berna launchers look and feel like a real handgun, but they don't use bullets. Instead,
00:05:54.700 they fire powerful kinetic rounds designed to stop a threat from a distance up to 60 feet without
00:06:00.420 lethal force. Here's why it matters. You don't need a firearms license. You don't need a background
00:06:05.780 check. There's no waiting period. There's no permanent life-altering consequences if you're
00:06:11.580 forced into the situation where you have to defend yourself. Use the link in the description or visit
00:06:16.440 junomarketplace.com slash Berna for special offers. Make sure that you're prepared. It's better to be
00:06:22.280 safe than sorry. Yeah, I mean, I don't think the Chinese are going to import a million cars from
00:06:27.460 Canada. I seriously doubt that's going to happen. But I guess those who are critical of President
00:06:34.720 Trump say, well, you know, America doesn't want to import many of our cars anymore either,
00:06:40.120 even though they continue to do so. And so there is that sense of Canada wanting to do something
00:06:47.620 other than what it is doing. So those who believe that maybe Carney is headed in the right direction
00:06:52.900 might say, look, look, you know, we're being bullied by the United States. We're being put
00:06:58.860 down or being referred to as the 51st state all of this stuff is going on and so what options do we
00:07:06.380 have well you know i guess the next big dog is china and so to what do you agree uh to do what
00:07:14.300 do you think that that might be a factor here and you know has america factored in the possibility
00:07:20.300 that you know canada at least some factors in canada think they have no other choice but to
00:07:26.780 reach out to China. Yeah, well, certainly, I don't think it's groundbreaking by any instance
00:07:33.040 for President Trump to throw some jabs at people. He's been doing that for over a decade. But there
00:07:37.640 is a larger point behind that. And he made no secret that there were these off ramps within
00:07:42.720 the USMCA deal. And it was very clear that they were going to be revisited. And I don't know why
00:07:48.440 that seemed to catch so many people by surprise, but it did. And President Trump campaigned on
00:07:52.880 talked for years that, hey, this this is something we're going to revisit to adjust things in our
00:07:57.520 end. And what President Trump wants is countries to do their best advocating for them, but
00:08:02.380 ultimately making a deal. You know, he's known as the dealmaker here. He wrote books about making
00:08:07.200 deals and to just kind of get this far down the road and then cut off ties and continue poking
00:08:13.780 President Trump in the eye. He's not going to respond well to that. And I don't and I don't
00:08:17.900 know if that was by design. It certainly seems like it was. But strengthening these ties with
00:08:23.680 China, and another story that I wrote was meeting with the Chinese military. I know there were
00:08:28.560 several years ago, there was a lot of consternation between the Canadians and the Chinese 0.99
00:08:33.040 with national security, with spying, and to now all of a sudden run in the direction of them and 0.69
00:08:39.040 run in the direction of the EU versus sitting down and trying to make a deal with your neighbor who
00:08:45.140 is still your largest trade partner, who still does a lot with each other, even with the tariffs
00:08:50.900 that are on right now. It's just baffling to me, and it suggests that the option is, okay, we want
00:08:56.960 to hurt the U.S., and I don't think that President Trump and his administration take kindly to those
00:09:01.840 kinds of threats. Yeah, I mean, you have to ask yourself if we have a government in Canada that's
00:09:07.860 so determined to target Trump that it's willing to hurt its own country and its own people.
00:09:15.140 because you're absolutely right we've had some very disturbing incidents with the uh with the
00:09:20.980 chinese and campaigns uh chinese police stations i believe you may actually have some of those in
00:09:26.180 the united states if i'm not mistaken these are illegal facilities uh we've trained chinese troops
00:09:32.820 who've been involved in things like that we've had the chinese interfere in canada's elections
00:09:38.980 at least a couple of times that we know of and our prime minister at the time in 2021 ahead of
00:09:44.660 of that election, knew that the Chinese were interfering, but he also knew that they were
00:09:49.520 interfering on his behalf, you know, in favor of the liberals. And so he ended up doing absolutely 0.73
00:09:55.540 nothing about it. And so, you know, we've had spies, for instance, sit in parliament,
00:10:01.140 and we were never told who those people were. You know, the number 11 stands out in terms of
00:10:06.860 people who were serving the interests of foreign governments. They were never arrested.
00:10:11.600 They were never put on trial. And so this is extremely disturbing to a lot of people in Canada.
00:10:17.340 But unfortunately, the brainwashing, the conditioning by the propagandists in the country have somehow convinced many Canadians, sadly, that their biggest threat is from America, our closest friend.
00:10:33.580 and that somehow we should turn to China of all countries, you know, with its terrible human rights
00:10:41.780 record, you know, and there's also the issue of the dumping. Now, that's one of the things that 0.78
00:10:47.340 was highlighted in the research report, which you alluded to in your column, you know, this concern
00:10:52.980 that China is going to exploit Canada to bring products into Canada and then have the Canadians
00:11:00.180 slap a made in Canada label on it and have that product or, you know, whether maybe it's even 0.74
00:11:06.180 steel or something like that, you know, head south on trucks. Next thing you know, you're
00:11:12.340 basically an importer. You know, we're kind of the middleman for dumping from China to the United
00:11:19.940 States. I mean, this is a huge element of concern here with the Trump administration, isn't it? The
00:11:25.120 fact that they see this as causing problems. I mean, he's put up these tariffs for a reason and
00:11:31.940 to have countries like China use Canada to bypass those tariffs just will not sit well with this
00:11:38.380 administration, nor with any other. I don't even see the Democrats, were they to get in the White
00:11:43.580 House in 28, changing much. What do you think about that possibility? No, I certainly think it
00:11:51.580 would be harmful to the american economy to see that but when you're dealing with china they do 1.00
00:11:56.720 not see themselves as being equal with anyone they think they're the superpower you know the 0.73
00:12:00.820 middle kingdom there's still that mindset and so for prime minister carney to then say that we're
00:12:05.880 going to be strategic partners china does not want partners the chinese government wants vassal
00:12:11.580 states who do their bidding and are subservient to them and for him to either not understand that
00:12:17.780 or be okay with it, I think is really dangerous for Canadian sovereignty. And so when you're
00:12:23.340 seeing this deal continue to go forward, you will not see President Trump, I think, relent on this
00:12:28.260 because he's identified the threat. You know, in his first term, he actually closed the Chinese 0.95
00:12:33.220 consulate in Houston, Texas for this reason that you were speaking about earlier, about spying and
00:12:39.120 people who were in trying to invade those high levels of government. And so if I were a Canadian
00:12:44.300 citizen, I would be very concerned about what Prime Minister Carney is doing. And I want to
00:12:47.980 make one other point. So the new White House press secretary started earlier this week,
00:12:52.000 and they implemented what's called a new media seat. Our organization, Breitbart, was able to do
00:12:56.300 that. The level of media censorship that happens in Canada is really concerning, and that's something
00:13:02.000 that I've been learning more about as well. And so independent voices and media outside of what
00:13:07.220 is funded by the Canadian government is absolutely critical to getting this message out about what's
00:13:12.240 really happening in the country.
00:13:14.740 Yeah, I couldn't agree more.
00:13:16.240 We got a couple of minutes left, Matt.
00:13:18.200 Do you want to talk a little bit about the midterms?
00:13:20.900 The Democrats are sounding pretty cocky.
00:13:23.980 They think it's in the bag that they're going to certainly be
00:13:26.240 taking over the house and possibly even the Senate.
00:13:29.160 And what do we know after that, uh, were that to happen, then you would
00:13:33.020 see, uh, impeachment proceedings and all of that garbage happening.
00:13:37.140 And, uh, do you think that, uh, it's going to be a tighter race?
00:13:42.240 than some predict? Do you think the Republicans could outperform? Where are we at right now?
00:13:48.400 Yeah, so in a lot of states, early voting is getting underway for this period. And
00:13:53.520 there are no visible signs of this wave that Democrats so often talk about. I feel like they
00:13:59.200 talk about a blue wave in every election, and it happens maybe once every five. And so what we're
00:14:05.120 seeing is Republican voters just need that motivation to get out and vote. Democrats are
00:14:10.560 happy to supply that with some of these candidates they have running, especially the openly
00:14:14.320 socialist and frankly, anti-Western candidates they have running, people who are a bridge too
00:14:19.540 far. So if you're a Republican voter or an independent voter, you're not exactly happy
00:14:24.080 with where things are. I think everyone would like the cost of gasoline to come down. But
00:14:28.200 remember where a lot of the inflation came from. It was the Biden era spending that President Trump
00:14:33.040 is working on. And really, President Trump, he said this in his UN speech back in September,
00:14:39.040 that he's going to be around for the next two and a half years, regardless of what happens in the
00:14:43.260 midterms. You know, obviously, I think he would prefer Republicans maintain control in both the
00:14:47.680 Senate and the House, but he's prepared if that doesn't happen, he'll continue to do things via
00:14:51.760 executive order, and they'll manage their relationship with Congress, just like he's
00:14:55.660 done for the past two years being in control. And so I think his team around him is very dead set on
00:15:01.880 keeping the losses to an absolute minimum, maintaining control of one and hopefully both
00:15:06.560 chambers for Republicans going into the final two years of his term. Fantastic stuff. Matt,
