00:00:00.000 I'm Candace Malcolm and this is the Candace Malcolm Show news update. Today is Wednesday,
00:00:05.940 February 11th, 2026 and these are the top stories of the day that we're working on.
00:00:10.440 We're still trying to determine a lot about the shooter at this stage right now. We believe we've
00:00:14.740 been able to identify the shooter but for privacy reasons and obviously for the
00:00:19.320 conduct of the investigation we're not releasing that information at that time.
00:00:22.260 A horrific school shooting rocks the small town of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia where nine
00:00:28.560 people were murdered, 10 dead including the shooter, leaving two others with life-threatening
00:00:33.480 injuries. While the police and other authorities have remained tight-lipped about the shooter and
00:00:39.360 the suspect, Juno News was the first news outlet in the world to uncover the identity of the shooter
00:00:45.600 and folks it is shocking. This is just another example of President Trump putting America's
00:00:50.700 interests first and so he made that very clear in his call with Prime Minister Carney earlier today.
00:00:57.540 U.S. Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt said the Gordie Howe Bridge should be made with more
00:01:03.720 American-made materials and reiterated U.S. President Donald Trump's demands.
00:01:08.700 And this year we've got the Conservative Member of Parliament Mike Dawson from New Brunswick saying
00:01:14.300 enough is enough, you know, showing, proving that he is a true champion for taxpayers by rejecting the
00:01:21.240 upcoming politician pay raise.
00:01:22.780 And finally, meet the Canadian MP who is refusing to take his pay increase, the one that politicians
00:01:30.240 are giving themselves. Thank you so much for tuning in. It's one of those days that it's just tough to
00:01:35.860 report the news. Horrific, horrific scene out of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia. Nine people were murdered
00:01:42.140 on Tuesday afternoon in the small town in northern BC. Up, I had to look it up on a map because I'm not
00:01:48.560 familiar with this area, even though I'm from BC. It's a very small community, about halfway between
00:01:53.240 Dawson Creek, which is on the Alberta border, and Williams Lake. A deranged shooter, reportedly only 17
00:01:59.740 years old, murdered members of his family and then went to the local high school and started a shooting
00:02:06.080 rampage. In the end, 10 people are dead, including the shooter. Juno News uncovered the identity of the
00:02:12.700 trans-identifying Tumbler Ridge mass shooter who has killed nine and sent at least 27 to hospital.
00:02:19.260 Hours after the attack, police refused to use any language stating the gender of the shooter with any
00:02:25.660 certainty. Police put out an emergency warning to residents of Tumbler Ridge on their phones on
00:02:30.620 Tuesday, warning of an active shooter, which they described as, quote, described as a female with brown
00:02:37.320 hair wearing a dress. Described as a female with brown hair wearing a dress. The male shooter was
00:02:46.260 dressed up as a woman. Notice how it doesn't say it's a female. It just says described as female
00:02:51.260 wearing a dress. Just unbelievably horrific. When police arrived at the scene, they found the suspect
00:02:57.040 deceased with, quote, self-inflicted gun wound. Six victims were found dead at the school. One person
00:03:03.600 died en route to the hospital, and two others were airlifted to Vancouver with life-threatening
00:03:08.220 injuries. One of the two in critical condition, oh my goodness, is a 12-year-old girl currently
00:03:14.160 fighting for her life after being shot in the neck and in the head, being airlifted to Vancouver. Her mom
00:03:19.380 posted this message on Facebook asking for prayer. Folks, please take some time today with your family,
00:03:27.620 with your loved ones. Pray for these people. Pray for these families. Pray for this 12-year-old girl.
00:03:32.780 I'll read a little bit what her mom wrote on Facebook. I'm writing this post sitting in Vancouver
00:03:36.520 Children's Hospital. When my daughter fights for her life today, started as any other. Now, however,
00:03:41.740 my 12-year-old daughter is fighting for her life. They try to repair the damage from a gunshot wound
00:03:47.260 to the head and one to the neck. She was the lucky one, I suppose. Condolences to the other families
00:03:52.340 during this tragedy. This doesn't feel real. I never thought I would be asking for prayers, but please,
00:03:58.180 please pray for my baby. And we certainly will do that. 25 others were also sent to hospital for
00:04:06.640 non-life-threatening injuries. Police also went to a residence where they found two other victims who
00:04:12.260 they believe are connected to the incident, believed to be family members of the shooter.
00:04:18.120 Canadians hope to get answers as what's being described as the worst mass shooting in our country's
00:04:23.840 history, the worst mass school shooting, I should say, but were met with several refusers to divulge
00:04:29.220 information from politicians and police. The RCMP wouldn't give the suspect's name. They wouldn't
00:04:34.800 give any identifying characteristics. And they wouldn't even say if the shooter was a student.
00:04:40.040 They wouldn't even say if the shooter was male. Really unbelievable obfuscation here from police.
00:04:45.180 We're still trying to determine a lot about the shooter at this stage right now. We believe we've
00:04:49.360 been able to identify the shooter, but for privacy reasons and obviously for the conduct of the
00:04:54.260 investigation, we're not releasing that information at that time until we're assured that we've connected
00:04:58.980 with the appropriate people and identified things. Now, while the rest of the media, the bailout media,
00:05:06.100 were just accepting the word of the police and not pushing further, our own Juno News,
00:05:11.960 unbelievable reporting here by Cosminger, our managing editor. He reached out and found and
00:05:17.320 spoke to the shooter's uncle, the brother of his mother. His mother's allegedly been killed by the
00:05:24.760 shooter. We spoke to Russell Strange, who is the uncle, and he confirmed that his nephew, the shooter,
00:05:30.600 was transgender and was responsible for the shooting. We have it confirmed from his own family
00:05:36.220 member. Facebook posts from Strange's mother, Jennifer, who is believed to be one of the victims,
00:05:39.820 indicated that she has been concerned about her son's violent tendencies for years, talking about
00:05:46.800 his mental health problems and his behavioral issues from a very young age. She wrote about it
00:05:52.380 all on Facebook through Facebook mom groups. The story is still developing, but I just want to give
00:05:58.000 a shout out to Juno News reporters Cosmingerja and Clayton Demain. These guys were up all night from
00:06:03.080 best I can tell. They were working around the clock, working their sources, trying to get information,
00:06:06.680 trying to confirm facts. Unbelievable role of independent media in this country. Great job, guys.
00:06:12.860 And let me just say to the audience, this is why you have to support independent media, because we
00:06:16.880 will bring you the facts. We will tell you the truth. We will not dance and skirt around. We will not
00:06:21.140 repeat the propaganda and the agenda being put out by the legacy media and by our institutions who just
00:06:26.700 don't want Canadians to know the truth. It's important to note that Canada's state broadcaster,
00:06:31.580 the CBC has still not reported on the identity of the shooter, which was confirmed by Juno News to be
00:06:37.760 Jesse Strange. And they are still opting to rely on the RCMP's guidelines to not give Canadians the facts
00:06:44.520 and to not tell the truth. Just listen to CBC's Ian Hanneman Zagir, one of their key, you know, main anchors,
00:06:51.840 one of their stars of the network. And look at him talk about the case. Listen to how he smugly claims
00:06:58.260 that mass shootings are an American phenomenon and that it's worse in the U.S. and how Canadians
00:07:03.360 don't politicize these things, but Americans do. This is an unbelievable clip. Let's play it.
00:07:07.700 The people involved directly and indirectly. Yeah. You know, I think about the United States
00:07:12.540 where, first of all, they have a lot of school shootings. I mean, if you look proportionally at the
00:07:17.840 fact they have 10 times the population that we do, they still have way more than 10 times the number
00:07:23.380 school shootings. But very quickly after each of those shootings, it devolves into partisan politics.
00:07:30.420 I don't see that happening here. I don't. But you tell me in terms of the, how do you see the
00:07:36.120 political reaction to this unfolding? Now, let's just point out the obvious here. Ian Hanneman
00:07:41.780 Zagir is politicizing this by talking about American school shootings being worse. That's politicizing it.
00:07:47.140 He's the only one demonizing the other side, which apparently is the Americans saying they're worse,
00:07:52.180 even though it literally just happened here, which proves that it can happen anywhere.
00:07:56.020 And by the way, this case and this story is an unbelievable story of what can happen
00:08:02.660 when you take a mentally ill person, you affirm their delusions and you pump them full of drugs.
00:08:07.540 This should absolutely be politicized because it shows what we are doing is deeply wrong.
00:08:13.700 And we should deeply reconsider the approach we take to those suffering from gender dysphoria.
00:08:19.140 We should avoid pumping young men or anyone who is mentally ill, avoid pumping them full of drugs,
00:08:25.460 especially when they have violent obsessions, which have been playing out on the internet for years.
00:08:30.180 Again, folks, this is a developing story and we will continue to bring you more. All right,
00:08:34.500 coming up, a conservative member of parliament is turning down a $10,000 pay raise this year.
00:08:40.100 But first, we give you an update on the White House war of words over the Gordie Howe Bridge
00:08:46.020 that President Donald Trump has threatened to block. So during a press conference on Tuesday,
00:08:50.820 White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt said that President Trump is still under a number of
00:08:55.540 grievances about the Windsor to Detroit Bridge, despite Prime Minister Mark Carney telling Canadians
00:09:00.980 Monday that the conversation was positive and that it was going to be smoothed over. So Levitt was
00:09:05.700 pressed by a reporter about President Trump's reversal, reversing his opinion on the bridge and
00:09:10.340 whether or not the president's post on Monday is still holding. Here's what she had to say.
00:09:15.620 Yesterday, the president on social media threatened to block the new Gordie Howe Bridge,
00:09:21.220 which would connect Detroit to Canada. This is a bridge that was fully paid for by Canada.
00:09:27.620 It used American labor to construct it. It used American steel to construct that bridge. The
00:09:34.420 president in 2017 was actually in favor of this bridge, part of a joint statement that he put
00:09:39.620 out when he met with the Canadian prime minister. Why has the president changed his mind as it relates
00:09:45.060 to this bridge? I think the president was very clear and direct in his truth, John. But just to
00:09:49.540 reiterate, the fact that Canada will control what crosses the Gordie Howe Bridge and owns the land on
00:09:55.220 both sides is unacceptable to the president. It's also unacceptable that more of this bridge isn't
00:10:00.340 being built with more American made materials, even more so than what President Barack Obama
00:10:06.100 committed to with the Canadians at the time at the start of the project. He also believes that the U.S.
00:10:11.060 should own at least half of the bridge, have shared authority over what passes across it,
00:10:15.540 and participate in the economic benefits generated by its use. President Trump threatened to block the
00:10:20.820 bridge opening, listing Ontario's ban on U.S. alcohol, Prime Minister Mark Carney's recent deal and
00:10:27.140 close chummy relationship with China, and the decades-long Canadian tariffs on U.S. agriculture
00:10:34.100 as sticking points on Monday. Prime Minister Mark Carney Tuesday said that his call with President Trump
00:10:41.060 went smoothly. Here's how that sounded. We discussed the bridge. I explained that Canada, of course,
00:10:47.060 paid for the construction of the bridge over $4 billion, that the ownership is shared between the
00:10:53.140 state of Michigan and the government of Canada, and that in the construction of the bridge. Obviously,
00:10:59.460 there's Canadian steel, Canadian workers, but also U.S. steel, U.S. workers that are involved. This is a
00:11:05.460 great example of cooperation between our countries. Look forward to it opening. And what is particularly
00:11:10.980 important, of course, is the commerce and the tourism and the voyages of Canadians and Americans that'll go
00:11:18.580 across that bridge. So the conversation turned to a series of issues that we will raise and we're
00:11:25.220 going to follow up on. I'm not going to go into detail on those issues. These would be specific issues
00:11:30.500 in parallel to the Kuzma negotiations. Final point is the president asked appropriately that his ambassador,
00:11:39.860 who's from Michigan, of course, play a role in smoothing the conversation in and around the bridge.
00:11:46.020 So it was a positive conversation. All right. And finally, folks, a new Brunswick Conservative MP
00:11:51.940 named Mike Dawson has rejected a $10,000 pay increase for MPs, instead opting to stand by Canadians,
00:11:59.300 who most of us haven't had a recent pay increase in years, thanks to out of control inflation. Dawson sent
00:12:06.020 a letter to the parliamentary clerk telling him to remove him from any payroll increases, outright rejecting
00:12:12.820 the 4.2% raise that all members of parliament voted to give themselves and are set to receive
00:12:18.660 in April. He wrote, quote, it is frankly distasteful that parliamentarians are set to receive a raise
00:12:24.820 while working men and women in this country haven't seen a decent raise in decades. He stated that before
00:12:31.220 becoming an MP, he was a drywaller and a contractor. So he knows a thing or two about how it feels to be a
00:12:37.140 working Canadian and what they must be thinking when they see MPs getting another $10,000 raise off
00:12:43.860 of their dime. Dawson's rejection of the seemingly annual pay raise in parliament received cheers from
00:12:50.660 the Canadian Taxpayers Federation on Tuesday with Franco Terezino, director of the CTF, calling him a hero.
00:12:58.260 Here's what that looked like. He was on with Chris Sims here at Juno News talking about how more politicians
00:13:03.620 should follow this lead. So good on Mike Dawson, member of parliament out of New Brunswick. He's the
00:13:09.620 first one we've seen as of tape time stand up and say no member of parliament pay increase. Okay, so
00:13:16.820 what's happening right now? And most importantly, how do we make this catch on? Yes, we all salute Mike
00:13:23.460 Dawson MP and we think that more politicians should follow his lead. Think about those hardworking
00:13:29.060 taxpayers and put them first. All right, folks, this is all the time we have for you today. Thank you so
00:13:33.300 much for tuning in. I'm Candace Malcolm. This is Candace Malcolm Show News Update. We'll be back again
00:13:37.140 tomorrow. Thank you and God bless.
