00:00:00.000 Welcome to Juneau News for this special edition of the Crime Report with Ron Chinzer.
00:00:08.500 I'm Ron Chinzer, a former police officer who's walked the beat, stood among the wreckage of
00:00:14.040 shattered homes and felt the raw anguish of families torn apart by crime. Mothers sobbing,
00:00:19.540 communities trembling, lives forever changed. Today I'm pulling you into the heart of a storm
00:00:24.600 that swept through Ontario. A series of tragedies striking like lightning, each exposing a justice
00:00:29.980 system crumbling under its own flaws. We're talking about a 12-year-old boy in Markham charged
00:00:34.780 with attempted murder while already free on prior violent charges. A toddler's world shattered by a
00:00:40.940 predator in Welland. A father gunned down shielding his children in Vaughan. A family terrorized in a
00:00:47.900 nearby home invasion that same night. A home invasion and a kidnapping in Markham that left a family
00:00:53.260 reeling. An 11-year-old girl lost to a suspected arson in a Richmond Hill and a woman caught in
00:00:59.160 the crossfires of a Toronto shootout. These aren't just stories, they're scars on our province's soul,
00:01:04.500 cries for a system that puts victims first, locks up repeat offenders, and invests in economic
00:01:10.180 programs to keep kids from becoming criminals or casualties. Under the Liberal government, we are
00:01:15.460 missing the grit, the clarity, and the will to make that happen. They dodge the crime conversations
00:01:21.360 because it's a mess they've helped create. I want to hear your thoughts, ideas, and responses to this
00:01:26.800 craziness. So comment below and head to JunoNews.com forward slash Ron to save 20% off of your

00:01:38.900 my blood boiling. A segment I'm calling Intro Sean Frazier. Because Canada's new justice minister
00:01:45.540 waded into this chaos with a remark that demands a response from somebody like me. Somebody who's seen
00:01:51.180 the streets brutal truth. On August 29th, 2025, Sean Frazier took the X and in what I can only assume
00:01:59.100 was a well-intended but painfully out-of-touch attempt of reassurance, declared, this isn't the
00:02:05.900 Wild West, it's Canada. Oh Sean, I don't know what Canada you're envisioning from your Ottawa office or
00:02:12.480 your home office, but out here where families cower, predators roam, it feels a lot like Dodge City,
00:02:19.380 where lawlessness festers and the good guys are left defenseless. Back in the Wild West,
00:02:25.280 sheriffs saddled up, faced the outlaws, and restored order with a steady hand. But what I'm calling the
00:02:31.340 Wild Wild North, this fractured Canada the Liberals have let unravel. We've got ministers typing tweets
00:02:37.400 from home while parents bury their children, or nurse wounds from monsters who should have been
00:02:42.300 locked away. Frazier's no stranger to big role has gone wrong. An immigration minister, he oversaw record
00:02:48.740 immigration, 1.14% population growth yearly, pushing 450,000 permanent residents by 2024,
00:02:57.060 then half a million by 2025, citing labor needs but ignoring the crushing strains on housing and
00:03:03.940 health care. And as housing minister from 2023 to 2024, he watched affordability collapse in our country,
00:03:10.980 homelessness doubling in Halifax, Toronto and Hamilton declaring emergencies, and a measly $100 million
00:03:17.320 in winter funding that felt like a shrug. He called it a generational moral failure. But where was the
00:03:24.080 fix? Now, as justice minister under Prime Minister Mark Carney, with a resume heavy and sustainable
00:03:29.660 development and international law from Dalhousie and Leiden, but light on criminal justice, he tells us
00:03:36.040 to relax. It's not the Wild West. That's not comfort. It's a slap to every victim, a hypocritical echo from a
00:03:43.380 government preaching safer communities while policies like Bill C-75 let dangerous offenders slip through
00:03:48.880 like sand. You know, as a cop who's held grieving families, this isn't politics, it's personal.
00:03:55.860 Victims deserve action, not words. No sooner had Frazier's tweet landed than Ontario erupted with violence
00:04:03.040 as if to mock his claim. Let me set the stage with the broader picture because these cases are threads
00:04:08.980 in a tapestry of failure. Statistics Canada 2023 crime report released in July of 2024 shows the crime
00:04:16.480 severity index up 2% for the third year running. Violent crimes flat, but don't be fooled. Extortions are
00:04:24.400 up by 35% for four years straight. Robberies climbed 4%, fraud has jumped 12%, shoplifting 18%,
00:04:31.980 and car thefts 24% above pre-pandemic levels. In 2022, 256 Canadians were killed by someone out on bail
00:04:41.720 or a release, a pattern recognized throughout the country. Violent crimes risen 30% over a decade and
00:04:47.980 youth crime is up 7% with assaults spiking 46% and robberies 27%. Now that homicide dropped to 778 victims
00:04:56.780 down 14% from 882 in 2022. Sounds good, but it's likely because first responders and hospitals
00:05:05.480 battled hardened by years of trauma under the liberals are now wizards at saving lives that would
00:05:11.160 have been lost before. Now there's not safety to talk about because that's not safety. It's medics
00:05:18.120 cleaning up the mess the system had failed to prevent. Liberal laws like Bill C-75 and C-5 loosened bail
00:05:23.940 and ditched mandatory minimums, creating a catch and release nightmare that police chiefs and
00:05:29.040 premiers slammed as offender friendly for years. Prevention is absolutely underfunded. Root causes
00:05:35.280 like youth poverty are been ignored and economic stagnation fuels crime. With youth unemployment
00:05:40.960 at 12% and programs like the youth gang prevention fund stretched thin, we're failing kids who need
00:05:47.020 opportunity. Jobs, apprenticeships, community centers, and not just the kids, but their families as well.
00:05:52.900 And without that, they're never going to stay out of trouble. Now we need a reform. Victims first,
00:05:58.320 repeat offenders locked up, and economic investment to break the cycle. Canada's supposed to mean safety
00:06:03.780 and fairness for all, but that's fading without the will to fight for it. Now our journey begins in
00:06:09.380 Markham, where on August 14th, 2025, around 5 20 p.m., a 12-year-old Toronto boy's actions exposed the tragedy
00:06:17.180 of a system letting kids slip through. Near McCowan Road and 14th Avenue, he allegedly shot a man in his
00:06:23.460 driveway. Non-life-threatening injuries, but chilling. Witnesses say the boy crept up, gun in
00:06:29.160 hand, and fired as the man stood unsuspecting, collapsing in pain. With neighbors hearing the
00:06:34.680 sharp crack of the shot and seeing the suspect flee into the evening light. Already on release for
00:06:40.260 unrelated violent offenses, which just means he was already on bail at the age of 12, he faces
00:06:45.640 attempted murder, discharging a firearm with intent, unauthorized possession of a firearm,
00:06:51.220 and breaching his conditions. Protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act, his name's withheld,
00:06:56.540 but Chief McSween decried this as a disturbing trend of youth recruited by criminal networks linked to
00:07:02.560 other recent cases in his region. Now the boy, exploited by criminals, was free despite priors. Now,
00:07:09.340 charged with attempted murder, McSween said, a spike in youth, they're being recruited. The victim's
00:07:14.720 family, outraged at his release, cooperates for reals, no quotes to protect privacy, and Chief
00:07:20.260 McSween urged, community, keep kids away from crime, as if that's part of the solution. The failure to keep
00:07:26.240 troubled youth off this path sets a grim stage for our next stop in Welland, where just over two weeks
00:07:31.980 later, on August 30th and into the night of August 30th to 31st in 2025, a horror no family should
00:07:39.280 face unfolded. A 25-year-old named Daniel Danny Senegal allegedly pried open a family's front door
00:07:46.400 near Crowland Avenue in York Street while the parents slept, unaware of the nightmare. Witnesses
00:07:51.720 say the intruder moved stealthily while neighbors reported faint disturbances, one recalling a shadow
00:07:57.600 slipping past their window. Their toddler, a girl under the age of five, was savagely attacked,
00:08:03.240 choked, leaving bruises on her body and neck, and subjected to trauma so severe she needed hours of
00:08:09.880 surgery at an out-of-region hospital. She's stable now, but the scars, physical and emotional, will
00:08:15.660 shadow her for life after being raped by this offender. Niagara Regional Police moved fast, canvassing
00:08:22.640 the neighbors who provided surveillance video capturing the suspect and his suspicious activity.
00:08:27.640 Now, Senegal was arrested later that night. He's since been charged with aggravated assault on a child
00:08:34.180 under 16, assault, choking, breaking and entering, and sexual interference. Now, a publication ban limits
00:08:41.320 the details, but as of September 4th, Niagara Regional Police confirmed that he's still in custody
00:08:46.780 regardless of information on social media. A small mercy, though it shouldn't take another tragedy to
00:08:53.240 keep him there. But for Senegal, a Welling local, this isn't the first time he's been known for them
00:08:59.160 for this type of offense. He's a registered sex offender with a chilling past. In September of 2021,
00:09:05.360 he was arrested for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old boy charged with assault, interference
00:09:10.360 under 18, and attempted strangling. He was convicted in December of 2023 on the assault. He was acquitted on
00:09:17.880 a strangling, and with the interference charge stayed, he got 18 months, but was out by March 2025,
00:09:25.640 six months early, despite bans on kid contact. Now, the boy's mother told the Toronto Sun it took two
00:09:32.760 years of court battles for that sentence, only for this to happen. Friends say Senegal knew the victim,
00:09:39.720 fueling community outrage. The family shattered. A source close to the mother told the National Point
00:09:45.160 they're livid at his early release, knowing his history. Neighbors sickened, rallied around,
00:09:51.560 but that little girl's pain will linger forever. There's no direct quotes on this due to the ban,
00:09:56.920 but the demand is clear. Tougher sentencing to cage violent re-offenders, especially pedophiles,
00:10:03.640 preying on our children and raping them in their homes in the middle of the night. Now,
00:10:07.560 this failure to lock up a predator like Senegal carries us to Vaughn, where hours later,
00:10:12.520 on August 31st, around 1 a.m., a father's bravery met a brutal end. Abdul Alim Farouk, 46 years old,
00:10:21.320 a devoted dad of four, was asleep with his wife, Miriam, and their kids, 17-year-old son,
00:10:26.920 daughters 16, 8, and 4, in their Kleinberg home on Andrita Drive near Barron Street. Witnesses say
00:10:33.720 suspects burst through the back door, shouting for valuables with cold, menacing voices waking the
00:10:39.960 family in a panic. They held the four-year-old at gunpoint, her small frame trembling. Alim,
00:10:47.080 a protector to his core, confronted him and was shot dead. His life snuffed out despite desperate
00:10:52.920 efforts to save him. The suspects fled in a dark SUV, stealing three phones. Two later recovered
00:10:59.480 nearby. As neighbors reported hearing gunshots and the screech of tires. York Regional Police are
00:11:05.240 hunting for these suspects, but no arrests have been made yet. Alim was a community rock. He owned
00:11:11.400 unique providers air duct cleaning. He was a devout Ahmadiyya Muslim, a great-grandson of faith
00:11:17.160 companions, lover of hockey and baseball, a man who treated friends like family and gave to schools.
00:11:23.320 No criminal ties. Just an innocent man, targeted for robbery. York Regional Police confirmed he had
00:11:31.000 no record. A respected family man. The family's grief is unimaginable. Brother Naim, at a press
00:11:37.640 conference with Mayor Del Duca, called Alim a hero who died defending his family. Their last dinner
00:11:43.720 together, now a haunting memory of a Canadian nightmare. Not the dream Alim built. Enough is enough.
00:11:51.240 Feel safe at home, he pleaded. Friend Wasib Dinza said he was the best father, a hero to the end.
00:11:58.200 Rizwan Ahmad couldn't fathom it, noting the kid's trauma, witnessing the horror of their father murdered.
00:12:05.560 The Ahmadiyya community mourned their Shaheed, praying in strength for their brother.
00:12:11.960 Now this terror didn't stop there. Ninety minutes later, Vaughn's night of fear continued, linking these
00:12:18.280 crimes in a chilling pattern of vulnerability. At 2.20 a.m., another home on Major McKenzie Drive,
00:12:24.280 near Highway 27 was targeted. Witnesses say suspects approached with a menace. One tearing at the doorbell
00:12:30.600 camera. Another smashing glass with a pistol button, yelling, a loved one kidnapped Roos to trick their
00:12:37.080 way in. Two adults and two kids inside screamed, get out, in panic. Their voices piercing the night and
00:12:43.880 triggering the alarm, sending the suspects fleeing in a dark SUV. As neighbors reported hearing the
00:12:49.480 commotion and seeing the getaway vehicle speed off, there were no injuries but the fear was
00:12:53.720 paralyzing for most people. Less than a kilometer from Alim's home. The timing and the tactics suggest
00:13:00.120 a possible link. York Regional Police are digging into this ruse scam and they're looking for those
00:13:05.320 that are involved. The family, unnamed for privacy, was terrified, as they should be. And they were saved
00:13:11.960 by the alarm but scarred emotionally. Neighbors feel unsafe in a quiet suburb. Mayor Del Duca called it
00:13:19.000 a broken system. Now this pattern of brazen home invasions, exploiting fear and vulnerability,
00:13:25.640 brings us back to Markham where on September 1st, 2025, just a few days after this, just before 9 a.m.,
00:13:32.600 a calculated home invasion and kidnapping exposed the depths of organized crime's grip. Near McCowan
00:13:38.680 Robe and 14th Avenue, suspects broke into the home claiming a family member had been kidnapped to
00:13:43.800 terrorize the residents. Witnesses say the intruders stormed in shouting threats and wielding a firearm
00:13:49.720 with a 58-year-old man shot during the chaos. Collapsing as family members screamed in horror. Earlier at
00:13:56.920 8 a.m., a 29-year-old woman from that same home was kidnapped near McCowan Road on Highway 407, lured to stop
00:14:04.840 her car after a deliberate collision, then forced into a gray Dodge caravan by assailants who restrained
00:14:11.320 her and sped off, as a passerby reported seeing her struggle before the vehicle vanished. She was later found in
00:14:17.720 Toronto with minor injuries. Her vehicle recovered nearby. Now police arrived as suspects tried to flee
00:14:24.280 the home, arresting four. Shakir Bhatti, 21, of Ajax, Parker and Panglia, 20, of Rampton, a 16-year-old from
00:14:32.680 Caledon, and a 17-year-old from Toronto, while one suspect remains at large. A loaded firearm and a stolen
00:14:39.400 vehicle were also recovered. The charges include attempted murder, conspiracy to commit kidnapping,
00:14:45.560 robbery with a firearm and more. And with 16-year-old already on release for unrelated offenses and Bhatti
00:14:52.120 released on bail on September 3rd. The family's trauma, it's absolutely profound. Witnesses
00:14:57.800 described their panic as the shooting and the threats unfolded, compounded by fear of their kidnapped
00:15:03.880 loved one. The community rattled demands answers in a neighborhood shaken by such bold violence. Now this
00:15:10.440 wave of violence, homes violated, lives in danger, carries us to Richmond Hill where hours later on September
00:15:17.000 1st, 2025, just before 3am, a suspected arson turned a family sanctuary into a tomb. A fire roared through
00:15:24.520 our home in Skyward Drive near Rolling Hill Road. Witnesses described flags engulfing the house rapidly with
00:15:30.280 thick smoke pouring out and screams echoing as neighbors woke to the chaos, one recalling the glow up of the
00:15:35.960 street like a nightmare. Firefighters found four unconscious people inside and one outside. All of
00:15:41.800 them were rushed to hospital, all of them in critical condition. Heartbreakingly, an 11-year-old girl died
00:15:47.560 the next day, making this a homicide investigation. The other four family members from their mid-20s to 70s
00:15:53.880 fight for their lives as they're in critical condition. Police and the fire marshal suspect arson,
00:15:58.920 possibly targeted with a red gas canister spotted nearby by a neighbor glinting in the early light,
00:16:04.120 hinting at potential accelerants. The family, they were everyday people in a quiet suburb, no criminal
00:16:09.960 ties, just caught in a vicious act. The girl, just starting her life, was part of a tight-knit clan, now
00:16:15.960 broken. The arson's malice ties to York Region's violent surge. The family, shielded by privacy, is
00:16:23.160 reeling. Mayor West spoke for them, unimaginably eased the pain of losing a child. The community stands
00:16:29.480 deeply shattered, neighbors stunned in a family area, demanding justice amid grief. There's been
00:16:35.400 no arrests and no tips. The threat of innocent lives, caught in chaos, pulls us to Toronto.
00:16:42.120 We're on September 3rd, 2025. Just before noon, a daylight shooting showed how no one is safe,
00:16:48.120 even just passing through. At Keel Street and Donald Avenue near York Memorial Collegiate Institute,
00:16:53.480 witnesses described a chaotic scene, groups blasting across the street, bullets flying as bystanders
00:16:59.560 ducked for cover near a school where kids were playing. The one local said all hell broke loose
00:17:04.920 amid the sudden frenzy. A 17-year-old boy likely involved and a woman in her 30s driving by an
00:17:11.000 innocent bystander were caught in the crossfire. They were both hit. Now both survived with non-life
00:17:16.120 threatening injuries, but nearby schools locked down. Kids outside narrowly spared. One youth was
00:17:22.120 arrested, a gun was recovered, but others are still at large. Now this is potentially targeted as per
00:17:28.040 Superintendent Rich Harris of the Toronto Police Service, who called it nonsense, across from the
00:17:32.680 school. The woman, she was just driving, no ties, pure bad luck, with witnesses saying she slumped in
00:17:39.720 her car, stunned as bullets whispered by. The teen's role is murky, possibly tied to the groups. Witnesses
00:17:46.600 reported 10 shots, all hell broke loose. Kids traumatized, police want dash cam footage, and the
00:17:54.120 community's shaken near the schools. Now one youth is in custody, but others are at large and the
00:17:58.280 investigation is still ongoing. But these stories from a boy lost to crime, a toddler's violation,
00:18:05.640 a father's sacrifice, a family's terror, a kidnapping horror, a child's death in flames and bystanders brush
00:18:12.280 with death. Screams of a system failing at every turn. Liberal policies like Bill C-75 let re-offenders
00:18:19.240 walk, ignoring victims, while Frazier's tweets dismiss the pain. They claim safer as stats soar.
00:18:26.600 As a cop, I've seen reform work, prioritize the victims, jail repeat offenders, fund jobs and
00:18:32.840 apprenticeships to save youth. Canada's values, safety for all, demand we fight for our home.
00:18:39.000 Because for Canada and for Canadians, there is nowhere else to go after Canada.

00:18:54.840 message to Sean Frazier. Minister Frazier, when you said Canada is not the wild west, you're right,
00:19:01.080 it's the wild north and it has to do with 10 plus years of liberal mismanagement, ignorance and lying
00:19:07.480 about the truth. You can lie to Canadians, but you can't lie to yourself and the statistics of these
00:19:12.360 crime stories and these victims are right in front of your face. The response that Sean Frazier gave
00:19:17.720 was in response to Pierre Polyev's presentation of the Stand on Guard Act, which would allow homeowners
00:19:24.920 to be able to protect themselves in their house clearly if a home invader came in and tried to
00:19:29.720 assault them or murder them or take their valuables. Now the liberals allegedly, and Sean Frazier included,
00:19:35.960 have said that if the Stand on Guard Act was to come forward in the House of Commons, they would
00:19:40.440 likely stand against it. So for the rest of Canada, when we're watching innocent people with no criminal
00:19:46.520 ties get murdered in front of their kids, get kidnapped and abducted, have their houses burned
00:19:51.960 down where their kids die in it, you have to look and pay attention to where the responsibility lies.
00:19:57.960 It's undeniable now, Canada, that we absolutely need a change and that the Liberal government cannot
00:20:03.880 continue to ignore this because the longer they do, the more people are going to die.
00:20:09.160 That's it for the Crime Report. My name is Ron Chinzer. Stay tuned and stay safe.
