00:00:00.000 So just to be clear, Darren is not comfortable noting the make
00:00:04.900 and or models of the weapons, he's correct.
00:00:10.120 Hi, it's Leah.
00:00:11.900 So the deputy and I had a brief conversation afternoon,
00:00:16.320 so at around 12.30 our time, so 11.30 our time,
00:00:20.700 in relation to the gun.
00:00:23.460 So I had a conversation.
00:00:26.980 I didn't.
00:00:27.620 Someone from my team had a conversation with Darren.
00:00:30.000 And raised the request that came from the deputy.
00:00:34.640 So I reached back to Deputy Brennan to confirm what the command triangle
00:00:40.980 as well as Superintendent Campbell were comfortable saying,
00:00:43.580 and that was semi-automatic handguns, what can be considered assault weapons.
00:00:46.820 So the deputy wrote back at around 2 o'clock to confirm.
00:00:50.380 So to be clear, and in the email, Darren is not comfortable noting the make
00:00:55.720 and or model of the weapon, he's correct.
00:00:57.040 I said, correct, the investigative team, including Darren.
00:01:00.160 And then the second question was, will he be stating another location of the shooters
00:01:05.680 was searched and was negative for any more weapons?
00:01:08.740 I said he's prepared and will do his best to include this in a response on fame
00:01:12.760 or within his remarks.
00:01:13.980 So my intention was not to disrespect.
00:01:22.120 I will own the fact that that was not included or adjusted in his remarks.
00:01:26.220 Yeah, it's Dan here.
00:01:32.600 Until almost 1.30 our time, and based on the prepping that we had done before,
00:01:41.200 we were under the understanding that we wouldn't be providing any.
00:01:44.740 And then we got the message from Leah's team member that the deputy commissioner
00:01:50.900 wanted the handguns included in terms of number and type.
00:01:57.980 And we then changed the answer, knowing that we were just literally minutes away
00:02:04.640 from having the text of that loaded up for posting.
00:02:09.120 So from my perspective, there was never any understanding that we would be actually changing
00:02:16.100 his remarks because those were pretty much a lock.
00:02:20.260 It was, we got the message an hour and a little, or I guess an hour before he was going into that room.
00:02:27.520 We changed the answer to here are the number and the types, the semi-automatic handguns,
00:02:32.120 handguns, and so on, like Leah just said, but it wasn't my understanding in prepping with Darren
00:02:37.700 that that was going to be, that the statement itself was going to change.
00:02:46.120 Does anybody realize what's going on in the world of handguns and guns right now?
00:02:55.980 The fact that they're in the middle of trying to get a legislation going,
00:02:59.820 the fact that that legislation is supposed to actually help police and the fact that
00:03:06.520 the very little information I asked to be put in speaking notes at around 11.30 this morning
00:03:16.300 is when I started this, which was three or more hours before Darren was to speak,
00:03:24.880 could not be accommodated.
00:03:26.920 The fact that I asked eight, almost eight hours before for a chronology and a map
00:03:34.460 couldn't be provided in eight hours, but yet it could be provided on the ninth or 10th hour
00:03:40.980 when it was too late, four days or five days after the event.
00:03:46.880 So does anybody wonder why I feel frustrated or I feel like I'm not being heard,
00:03:54.000 which makes me feel disrespected?
00:03:56.700 Is anybody seeing that or is it just, am I being oversensitive?
00:04:03.540 It's Darren Campbell here.
00:04:05.720 I just want to let you know that we had conversations with comms in and around the guns
00:04:12.120 as if it was going to be a question asked.
00:04:14.560 I wasn't given any kind of updated insertion on the weapons, so that never even made it
00:04:22.160 into the notes that I was provided in terms of what I was going to deliver today.
00:04:28.700 I didn't get any requests from anybody for a timeline for this today at all, so I haven't seen.
00:04:37.100 No, not for today.
00:04:38.080 This is for last Thursday.
00:04:40.220 I'm just referring to that event because that happened to me last Thursday
00:04:44.960 where I had requested a timeline and a map.
00:04:47.700 All I can say is we worked tirelessly, all of us, on providing a proper and accurate timeline
00:05:01.600 with so much information coming in and getting an accurate map with national headquarters as well
00:05:09.060 with the equipment we had, which is why we ended up with such an excellent product.
00:05:15.060 I realized that there was a request for it to be done Thursday, but with what we had
00:05:24.520 and we were putting all the effort in, we couldn't get it all done on Thursday
00:05:29.400 but had the product ready to go, an accurate product on Friday.
00:05:36.000 And that's not because we're all sitting here doing nothing.
00:05:40.060 We're trying to put it all together with a lot of information.
00:05:42.900 So I would never accuse you of sitting around and doing nothing.
00:05:49.380 My point is we worked really hard on it to meet the deadline and we couldn't meet it
00:05:55.180 with the information that was coming in and still wasn't available to provide a proper,
00:06:02.060 accurate timeline at the deadline on Thursdays.
00:06:12.900 Thank you.
