Juno News - MALCOLM： The most biased news of the week

00:00:00.000 Hey guys, this is Candice Malcolm and we are live. Thank you so much for tuning in today.

00:00:15.840 Thanks for watching this live video. If you haven't already, please don't forget to like

00:00:21.180 and share this video and go over and like our page. TNC News is a great place to get

00:00:26.400 independent and real journalism in Canada. So today I'm doing a video on the

00:00:34.440 prevalence of fake news in our society and it's going to be a weekly segment

00:00:39.360 that I do every Friday here so I hope you'll continue to tune in and watch

00:00:43.800 that. I think it's important to point out incredibly biased journalism and news

00:00:49.860 reports when we see them because they are all over the place, all over the place.

00:00:54.840 And you hear so much from liberals, from the mainstream media, from the Trudeau

00:00:59.640 government in Canada about the new rise of fake media and fake news and how it's

00:01:06.520 supposedly spreading disinformation and hate across the internet. As most of us

00:01:12.960 who have been paying attention to the news in Canada, the news in the US as well,

00:01:16.380 this is prevalent basically across the Western world, is that the mainstream

00:01:20.760 media itself is often the one that's pushing a fake news narrative. They're

00:01:25.140 pushing their own narrative, it's based on their opinion, it's not news, it's not

00:01:28.760 unbiased or straight news, it's always got a tint or flavor of their own bias and you

00:01:35.000 could just tell from reading either a headline or two sentences into an article. So

00:01:40.020 I'm going to keep track every single week. If you guys see a story that you want me to

00:01:44.760 include in the segment, please feel free to forward it to me, email it to me, tweet

00:01:49.980 at me or post it on this Facebook or YouTube page in the comments and we'll

00:01:55.260 go through it. Because like I said, these fake reports are everywhere, they always

00:01:59.220 have been. The media has always been biased, they've always leaned left, that's an

00:02:04.320 open secret and now all of a sudden they are trying to, these major voices, these

00:02:09.240 major mainstream liberal voices are trying to accuse conservatives, people on the

00:02:14.520 right and just independent people, people who aren't part of the sort of

00:02:18.960 mainstream media, mainstream liberal, you know, segment of society, accusing those

00:02:25.980 folks of promoting fake news and spreading their own false stories and we

00:02:29.480 know that's not true. So I'm going to quickly go through a couple stories here

00:02:32.760 just to show how prevalent fake news and bias is in the mainstream media. So we're

00:02:38.820 going to start today with this Toronto Star article from earlier this week. You

00:02:44.700 can see the headline there, it says Andrew Scheer's absence from Vancouver Pride

00:02:48.660 Parade speaks volumes about upcoming election, analysts say. Now this is my

00:02:54.540 favorite thing that they do when they say analysts say. So this is not an opinion

00:02:58.980 piece, this isn't a column, this isn't written by an opinion journalist. This is

00:03:03.600 supposed to be passed off as straight news, unbiased, completely straight.

00:03:08.580 But you see the use of the word analysts say there. So what they've done is they've

00:03:12.460 taken a biased opinion that they have and then they found some analysts. I mean

00:03:17.580 anyone can claim to be an analyst. An analyst is a vague word, it's like the word

00:03:21.120 expert. Experts and analysts are just words that media and elites like to use to

00:03:26.580 describe themselves so that they give credibility to their own biased ideas. So

00:03:31.080 here we go. Apparently analysts are coming out and saying that Andrew Scheer's

00:03:35.880 absence from the Vancouver Pride Parade is telling and it's going to be a

00:03:40.160 precursor for this election season. So you go on to read the story about how Pride

00:03:44.880 is just the best thing in the world and it's this inclusive, loving event where

00:03:48.840 everyone comes together. And then, you know, noting how all these major political

00:03:53.040 leaders were there from Liberal, NDP, and Green. This is notably missing from the

00:03:56.940 group was, oh, and the smiley celebratory photos of political foes marching

00:04:00.880 together was Conservative leader Andrew Scheer who has declined to participate in

00:04:04.840 any Pride parades this year. And then it goes on to say that's in stark contrast to

00:04:09.040 two former leaders, Ronna Ambrose and Joe Clark. So they went back in time 20

00:04:14.200 years to find two instances of Conservative leaders attending a Pride

00:04:18.160 March. Now there's plenty of reasons why someone wouldn't want to attend a Pride

00:04:21.800 March. I mean we live in a free society so if you're not into that kind of thing, if

00:04:25.840 you're not into the sort of public display of affection or hedonism or just

00:04:31.080 sort of left-wing political advocacy that these Pride parades encompasses, it's

00:04:35.920 really just a left-wing show of all their favorite pet projects. So if you're on the

00:04:40.520 right and you're not just, you're not really into that either culturally or maybe

00:04:44.380 because you have a family and you just don't want to go, you're busy that weekend,

00:04:47.440 you're going somewhere else. My understanding is that Andrew Scheer was at a

00:04:50.620 different parade for a different community, Carabana in Toronto, which is a big

00:04:55.000 parade celebrating people from the Caribbean Isles. And so if you don't

00:04:59.140 want to go to Pride, somehow it's because there's something wrong with you.

00:05:02.720 Again, the underlying theme here is that you must be a bigot if you don't go to

00:05:06.280 Pride. Now they found a couple of political analysts, not just one, but

00:05:10.660 several political analysts who say this is because the Conservative Party has just

00:05:14.980 moved too far to the right. Okay, if you continue to read on this brutal story, you

00:05:19.660 go down a little lower and you really realize the heart of the issue, which is

00:05:24.220 that the reason, so the reason that the Conservatives chose not to attend this

00:05:28.360 event in Vancouver is because Vancouver Pride has expelled various groups from the

00:05:35.440 event. Now this is, this is common across Canada with Pride events that happen in

00:05:39.100 Toronto where they refuse to allow the Toronto police to participate in Pride. So

00:05:43.300 Pride's supposed to be this open and inclusive event unless you happen to be a

00:05:47.440 member of a either Conservative group or just a mainstream group in society like the

00:05:53.860 police, people who are in charge of keeping us safe, and then if you're part of

00:05:57.820 that group it's not overtly left-wing, then you're excluded. So Toronto Pride

00:06:02.980 excluded the Toronto police, Vancouver Pride banned both the University of

00:06:08.080 British Columbia and the Vancouver Public Library. These are hardly

00:06:12.100 conservative groups here. University of British Columbia, which is the most

00:06:16.720 established university in Western Canada probably, and certainly not on the right. If

00:06:22.560 anything it's a left-leaning institution, and the Vancouver Public Library, which is

00:06:26.880 just a mainstream institution. Now the reason that Pride has banned these groups

00:06:31.680 is because they had events where Pride said that the speakers were transphobic. So

00:06:36.360 this is just pure attack on free speech, it's thought police, it's an Orwellian

00:06:41.280 attempt by Vancouver Pride to say if you don't follow our very rigid far-left

00:06:47.040 ideological perspective. Even if you have a speaker who might question it, like UBC and

00:06:52.620 the Vancouver Public Library are not necessarily on the side of the speakers

00:06:56.220 who might have critical views about trans people or LGBT issues. They just

00:07:02.520 hosted events that didn't completely conform with the far-left's vision, so

00:07:07.360 they kicked these groups out, and then because of that a lot of Conservatives chose

00:07:10.920 specifically to boycott Pride this year, specifically that Vancouver one. So, you

00:07:15.980 know, the whole headline here about how Andrew Scheer's absence is because, you

00:07:20.620 know, the party is going to far-right and they're appealing to this, like, supposed

00:07:25.540 mass of, like, bigoted Canadians who are anti-gay. Well, the reality is it was just

00:07:30.440 because the Pride itself is so close-minded and so big to themselves that they

00:07:34.860 don't want to include everybody. It's not an event for everybody, it's just an event for

00:07:39.240 those who conform to the left-wing ideology. And, I mean, like, they didn't even, they

00:07:44.780 buried that deep down in the story. The headline is completely biased. The whole

00:07:48.560 premise here is just absolutely ridiculous. So, shame on the Toronto Star. That's sort 0.97

00:07:53.380 of what we've come to expect, though. The Toronto Star is overtly left-wing. They

00:07:58.180 even say it, they even claim to be a progressive source of news. So, you know, if you are

00:08:03.200 looking for straight, unbiased news, don't go to the Toronto Star. Now, similarly, the

00:08:09.080 Vancouver, or sorry, the CBC kind of had a similar theme here. It wasn't as overtly

00:08:15.200 biased, but, you know, political leaders celebrate inclusiveness, tolerance, love at

00:08:19.520 Vancouver Pride. They also mention how Conservatives like Andrew Scheer weren't

00:08:22.640 there. Buried deep, deep, deep down in the story is the real reason these

00:08:26.760 politicians didn't go to the Pride event, because of this crackdown on free

00:08:31.140 speech and total intolerance for pretty mild institutions. Like, to say that UBC and the

00:08:38.540 Vancouver Public Library are somehow unwelcome in mainstream society, or because

00:08:44.300 they're intolerant, is just absurd. It's truly absurd. So, that's that. Now, I want

00:08:49.920 to move on to a second story here, which is an exclusive over at TNC News. So, check

00:08:56.280 this one out. This is, we had one of our reporters go through and look at the

00:09:01.540 coverage on CBC. So, CBC gets a huge mandate from the Canadian taxpayers. They get

00:09:06.560 subsidized well over a billion dollars a year, and the reason is that they're

00:09:10.220 supposed to tell Canadian stories, tell stories about Canada and fill in that

00:09:14.300 need. Supposedly, supposedly we have a need in Canada to have more Canadian 1.00

00:09:19.340 stories. But, when you turn on CBC, as has been the case for the last three years

00:09:23.900 ever since Donald Trump was elected, you just see story after story after story

00:09:28.320 about the US. Like, if I wanted to turn on the news and see, you know, Trump

00:09:33.980 derangement syndrome, like high spectrum, intense, anti-Trump, you know, you already

00:09:40.640 have CNN, you already have MSNBC. So, why are we paying CBC through taxes to do the

00:09:45.860 same thing? Well, this story over at TNC.News shows how, even when, so there was a big

00:09:55.640 manhunt in Canada. There was these two men from Port Alberni, British Columbia, who

00:10:00.640 were wanted in a series of murders. They were missing, the police pinpointed them

00:10:05.620 down to a specific area in Manitoba, and there was a huge manhunt. I mean, this is

00:10:09.700 the biggest story of the year, the biggest story of the summer, certainly. Everyone

00:10:13.100 in Canada was talking about it, everyone wanted to know what the status was of

00:10:16.420 this manhunt, and instead of focusing on the Canadian element, on Canadian news, the

00:10:22.100 CBC devoted most of their attention, most of their attention, on the Mueller hearings,

00:10:28.980 on the Trump witch hunt, on the Russia conspiracy in the United States. So, instead of actually

00:10:34.920 covering news that's important to Canadians, they were all over the place talking about

00:10:39.700 Robert Mueller and those hearings. So, this was for the date of July 24th, 2019. CBC's Twitter,

00:10:46.100 Facebook, and YouTube posts for that date were all taken into consideration. According

00:10:51.460 to the findings by TNC.News, the Canadian broadcaster dedicated 26% of its social media posts on the

00:10:57.660 Mueller hearings, only 14% on that Canadian manhunt. Out of the 57 tweets, just under a

00:11:05.260 quarter of the day's content was dedicated to that leading U.S. story, and only one-eighth

00:11:10.100 were about a material about the Canada's search on the two fleeing murder suspects. So, you

00:11:15.860 know, you have to ask yourself, why is it that the CBC is focused so much on the American

00:11:22.340 news and not focused on the Canadian news? If we look over at the YouTube page, there

00:11:27.060 was 20 minutes of airtime about the manhunt, compared to six hours of content on the Mueller

00:11:34.660 hearings. Six hours. So, I mean, just that puts it all in perspective. And there was 27

00:11:40.080 minutes about everything else in the day, all the rest of the news combined. So, 27 minutes

00:11:44.260 for everything else, six hours for the Mueller hearings, and about 20 minutes on the manhunt. 0.84

00:11:50.160 Totally ridiculous. So, that's what you can expect from the CBC, nothing but total Trump 0.91

00:11:57.000 hatred. And we're going to do one more story. This is sort of honorable mention. Over the post-millennial,

00:12:03.960 there was a story, this was just hilarious, that found that there was a report put out by

00:12:09.000 a liberal think tank, like a big L arm of the Liberal Party, basically, that put out this

00:12:16.240 research story to focus on the problem of fake news. This is kind of funny. So, the think

00:12:22.360 tank is called the Public Policy Forum. They put together what they call the Digital Democracy

00:12:28.140 Project, which is a multi-year project to analyze and respond to increasing amounts of disinformation

00:12:33.440 and hate in the digital sphere. So, this is what I was talking about earlier. There's

00:12:36.880 this whole, you know, fear-mongering about fake news being pushed out there. They want

00:12:41.380 to find out who is spreading disinformation, who is spreading hate in the digital sphere.

00:12:46.580 You know, in their minds, they already have decided that it's going to be the right-wing

00:12:49.940 conservative news sources and anything that's not sort of the conformist center-left agenda

00:12:55.400 in Canada. But funny, ironically, the findings of this report actually found that the more

00:13:02.180 mainstream media news you consume, the more likely you are to get major questions about

00:13:07.820 Canadian policy wrong, the more likely, basically, you are to believe in conspiracy theories and

00:13:13.580 fake news. So, the one troubling point, this is from the report, the one troubling report seems

00:13:20.640 to be that while social media exposure is associated with higher levels of misinformation, so is

00:13:26.460 exposure to traditional or mainstream media. According to the report, those who get their

00:13:32.200 news from the mainstream media outlets are more likely to give incorrect answers to questions

00:13:36.600 about basic government policy issues. Survey respondents who read or watched more traditional

00:13:42.560 news media were less likely to express uncertainty about public policy questions and more likely to

00:13:49.920 give an incorrect response. So, not only if you watch the mainstream media, which they described

00:13:55.580 as CBC Online, CTV, CTV Online, CBC Television, and TVA, the French Channel, if you watch those

00:14:05.420 five sources, you are more likely to be confident in your own understanding of the news, but also

00:14:11.440 more likely to give the wrong answer. So, that's like a double whammy because it makes people

00:14:16.640 more arrogant because they believe they are more informed than other people, but they actually

00:14:21.080 are less informed. They are more likely to answer these questions wrong. So, who is the

00:14:25.380 biggest promoter of fake news? Well, there you have it. A liberal study found that it was

00:14:32.300 actually the mainstream media. So, I'm going to leave it at that for today. Thank you guys

00:14:37.300 so much for tuning in. If you're new, don't forget to check out TNC.News, like this page,

00:14:43.360 like this channel, and go ahead and share this video. Thank you so much, everyone. Take care.
