Juno News - More COVID-19 facts need to be discussed

00:00:00.000 it's kind of unfortunate to observe that here in Canadian society January 2021 it seems like a lot

00:00:11.040 of people's anxieties about coronavirus are higher now than they have ever been now 10 months into

00:00:17.400 this when we have so much contextual information about who is most at risk of having a serious

00:00:22.520 outcome of coronavirus who's actually dying of it how you actually get it what locations are

00:00:27.720 transmitting it and so forth I kind of chuckle but I also lament the fact that I I see people

00:00:32.760 dodging away from other individuals when they're passing by them on the sidewalk for just a second

00:00:37.120 when I go for a run in the morning I see people flee as I come towards them and I think oh geez

00:00:41.780 these people probably don't know the fact that I try and repeat quite a lot that actually the federal

00:00:46.260 government's COVID-19 tracing app it only registers a contact between two people if you've been within

00:00:51.960 six feet of each other for 15 minutes or more basically telling you this whole running past

00:00:58.660 each other walking past each other on the sidewalk thing it's pretty much almost impossible to transmit

00:01:03.920 the virus that way likewise even indoors at the grocery store for instance just passing by some

00:01:09.400 in the aisle not happening and I bring up grocery stores for a reason because it's kind of interesting

00:01:14.660 to see that some of the people who are the most relaxed about things these days who are most sort

00:01:19.000 of chill when they're when they're in an indoor setting are the workers in these facilities grocery

00:01:24.320 store employees people stocking the shelves I think it's because they've been doing these eight

00:01:28.520 hour shifts day in day out since March and they know that hardly anybody among their colleagues

00:01:33.300 has been getting coronavirus and that is a fact the statistics have been released for outbreaks in

00:01:38.780 retail settings places like grocery stores and it's a very small number only about 250 cases in total

00:01:44.740 have been traced back to being spread in a retail setting both among customers and among the

00:01:49.760 employees so 250 cases from March until now among 15 million people in Ontario and that really tells

00:01:57.020 you something there I had another interesting situation where I was actually at a hospital on the day

00:02:02.060 that Doug Ford announced the full stay-at-home order for Ontario and basically means everything has

00:02:08.260 to be shut down now indoor dining had been shut down for quite some time I was at the hospital though

00:02:13.000 and I found it kind of curious to see that the food court was open for indoor dining there about

00:02:17.680 six establishments there and people were just there in the food court no masks on and they were having

00:02:22.300 lunch so I sat down because I happened to be there right at noon I said okay I'm hungry and I I got

00:02:26.460 myself a little pita sandwich there in the hospital surrounded by mostly nurses some of whom probably had

00:02:32.360 the vaccine they were cleaning crew and there were delivery persons and so forth who'd come in to do their

00:02:37.040 deliveries and then decided okay they would have their lunch and so forth general public can't walk into it you have to have a

00:02:42.020 reason for being in the hospital but it was still kind of telling those individuals were quite relaxed

00:02:46.980 because I guess they know the basic rules about okay well stay apart and so forth and do proper

00:02:52.140 sanitization but all this stuff about you pass someone in the grocery store a jogger is passing by you

00:02:58.040 oh no your anxiety has to rise well it doesn't I mean we have the information that does tell us yes

00:03:04.120 coronavirus in some circumstances for some individuals is very serious and something to be protected

00:03:09.860 against but there are also a whole bunch of other activities and settings where you don't need to

00:03:14.440 fear and you don't need to be anxious and I wish we talked about that a lot more because I think that

00:03:18.960 could help to calm a whole lot of people and help them go about their lives in a much well happier way

00:03:24.140 during what's otherwise rather depressing time

00:03:26.540 you

00:03:27.540 you

00:03:29.540 you

00:03:31.540 you
