00:00:00.000 And I want to talk to you about this story that came out from Juneau News last week.
00:00:03.740 Temporary foreign workers now account for 19% of the private sector economy.
00:00:10.140 So one in five workers in the private sector is now not even a permanent resident, not
00:00:16.220 even on track to become a citizen, just someone who's here temporarily to, I don't know, provide
00:00:22.220 cheap labor for large corporations or other groups that want that kind of worker in.
00:00:27.000 And I mean, it's just totally wild that that is the priority.
00:00:31.560 That is the way that we are organizing our economy.
00:00:34.060 What did you make of this story?
00:00:35.400 Yeah, we've never seen anything like it.
00:00:37.740 And on Not Sorry for Juno, I've got a big guest this week.
00:00:41.820 I'm excited to share that episode.
00:00:43.840 And we're going to really be going into that.
00:00:45.520 But for example, like my wife and I, we were on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia
00:00:49.820 this weekend.
00:00:50.500 We live in Vancouver.
00:00:52.020 And we were up in Gibsons and went further up the coast.
00:00:55.520 And out there, because it's hard to get to, there's not some big highway, there's a barrier
00:00:59.580 to entry to things like the TFW program and, you know, let's be real, a litany of fake
00:01:04.880 schools.
00:01:05.400 They just don't exist out there.
00:01:06.820 And so you actually saw local kids, local 20-somethings, local 30-somethings working
00:01:12.580 in the jobs that they've always been able to work in before.
00:01:15.620 And you come back to Vancouver, you go to Toronto, you go to Calgary, Edmonton, that
00:01:21.220 doesn't exist anymore.
00:01:22.620 And then we turn around, we see that 19% stat we see in cities like Toronto, youth unemployment right now is estimated to be around 20%. It's probably higher. And we're failing to launch these kids. They're at risk of not getting that foot in the door, not getting these sort of seminal experiences that they need to develop confidence, to be part of a team, to break out of the bubble, to, especially with the rise of technology.
00:01:52.620 and the fight for every second of their attention span.
00:01:55.560 It's like, they need to be out there
00:01:56.840 and they need to be working.
00:01:58.500 And the worry is, is they're not.
00:02:00.260 And unless we hold these sort of TFWP abusers to account
00:02:05.720 and really like force the government
00:02:08.360 to stick to its apparent claims
00:02:11.380 that it wants to revise targets
00:02:12.880 and do a bit of a better job,
00:02:15.000 we're gonna lose hundreds of thousands of kids
00:02:17.580 just off the bat
00:02:18.900 who are gonna just be spinning their wheels
00:02:21.100 and miss these key years.
00:02:23.240 And then we're going to turn around
00:02:24.380 and wonder why we have even more problems.
00:02:26.140 And then the only solution to that for these companies,
00:02:29.380 and if it's a liberal government,
00:02:30.740 we'll be like, well, then let's bring in
00:02:32.020 even more temporary foreign workers.
00:02:33.760 It's like, it's a vicious cycle.
